— To get to the bottom of what’s been taking place, you let the discovery processes of the current lawsuits run their course rather than support a law that forces the judges to dismiss those suits.

— To keep safeguards in place you don’t support legislation to remove them.

And I actually think one of the big points, Keith, that hasn’t been made about this bill is that currently, as of last August, since last August, we’ve been operating in an unconstitutional environment, clear violation of the Fourth Amendment.

So, there was tremendous urgency to get the FISA court back into the game. And does this bill do it imperfectly? Yes. But it does do it and it restores the Constitution, which is a point that’s not getting made very much.

I’m sorry, but the only way to restore the Constitution is force the government to obey it or to ammend it. This bill does neither. In fact, it attempts to legalize what has been going on since August.

— IMHO, Glenn is simply the most lucid political writer in American history since Thomas Paine.
— Olbermann may be an even more improbable phenomenon: the only progressive voice on TV news in America, unless you want to count Moyers at TV news. And, not only progressive. That guy is damn insightful and extremely eloquent.

In the context of the current squabble, Glenzilla is dead on. Keith got a bit carried away via his respect for John Dean and Barak Obama. The problem is that Obama seems to have snapped to the right so hard his eye balls were left looking over his shoulder.

Someone should get them together via their mutual friends: John Dean, Markos Moulitsas, perhaps Rachel Maddow.

KO and Moyers should not be mentioned in the same sentence (I just violated my own injunction!) Moyers is a true journalist who has paid his dues and is a treasure. KO is a personality broadcaster who brings some balance to the news that is badly needed. In his exchange with Glenzilla, he revealed that he hasn’t done his homework (he criticized Greenwald without even reading his column), and is therefore shallow, and not a real journalist. We like him because he often has the courage to say on national TeeVee what many of us would like to say to such a big audience.

In this exchange, Glennzilla won hands down. He did his homework, he knew his facts, and he documented his assertions. Olberman didn’t. I am hopeful that Keith will learn a positive lesson from this exchange.

the NorCal folks i know with medical problems (heart/lung/autoimmune/cns) who can afford to are fleeing the Central Valley for the far nor cal coast and oregon coast campgrounds/weekly hotels. Many are finding campgrounds on FOrest Service land along rivers close to small towns (like the road leading from Breitenbush Hot Springs to Detroit, Oregon). On USFS lands, camping is quite inexpenisve or nealy free (outside of the “Adventure Pass) scams.

FOr those comfortable with a tent/air mattress, etc, teh car camping can be an inexpensive way to get out from under the smoke.

Of course, kitties and camping son’t mix ( kitties die) and dogas are ofetn a problem/not allowed. Folks i know fleeing the smoke for med reasaons are finding chruch/firends to look after their beloved pets (indoors, natch).

Not by pass a stent to open an artery… usually small but in her case it was as large as the ones that feed the front and rear… was 90% closed…. the before and after pictures were amazing to see the differences in the size and blood flow. Doc says her heart is just fine now and she just has to take it easy for about a week to let the incision heal… We now have matching scars in the smae place… go figure for two completely procedures they go in at the same place… the femoral artery

If one takes the premise of an early episode seriously, the air that the kawoosh goes through is disintegrated or something. If it no longer exists, I suppose it can’t build up pressure.

One of the interesting things about the show was that one of the producers, Brad Wood, was a physics student at one time. While it eventually descended into technobabble, Stargate was fun to watch for its first few seasons, because you could tell they actually paid attention to science.

Even with someone who just isn’t motivated to be a roadblock in charge, it’s amazing how restless DoJ seems to be getting lately. They’re still refusing some Congressional subpoenas, of course, but at the same time we’re seeing stuff like the Inspector General report.

I think if I were they, I’d be very eager to make some of the people who have done these things to their department pay.

Like Took him out in the bay he has a seat in the prow of a dbl hull 5×12 livingdton with a slide seat so we can row across the bay in the sunset today. He insisted on dismounting on his own and took a header into some algae he is dismayed by all this feebleness. Still likes the ladies, music and food. My dentist on the corner had a R&R band this afternoon in the parking lot so I loaded him up and took him over and the kids petted him. Then headed to the bay. It is now like a patient I have to figure out a comfortable way to load and unload…maybe a sling under the belly so not to hurt the leg joints. We are working it out.

It talked about Obama and the “netroots”. But, as far as I can see, Obama really didn’t do that much to reach out to the “netroots”, and I’m not even sure he includes them/ us in his constituency. Yeah, some sites have piled on in support of Obama, but I don’t think that was an orchestrated plan. Rather, it seems that he and his campaign were incredibly good at organizing.

I base this statement on a Jane post I read at FDL. “What did Obama did right”. I wish I could find the FDL post link, but so far haven’t. But, it was similar to one Jane posted at HuffPost:

Obama has a reputation for avoiding controversy. He didn’t vote on cloture one way or the other. It’s an old pattern. Unless someone comes up with a diary entry or a videotape, I’m going to stick with the theory that it’s just more of the same.

wigwam- but, as you have read more than I have, and obviously thought a lot more about this issue than I have, do you feel that Obama actually did “outreach” to the “netroots”? From what I’ve read, the campaign was awesomely organized to engage every single volunteer, using every sort of techy device (ha! cell phone messaging), but I don’t call that netroots outreach. What is your take?

I expect that they did. There was an enormous amount of Obamania over at Dkos, for example. But, they were still numerically a small part of his effort. There’s a poll over at HuffPo: Who’s right Glenn or Kieth? Last I saw it was running 49 to 48 in favor of Glenn.

It all about what Eureka is saying at #254. Where’s the center? Where’s the perceived center? Glenn talks about this a lot. And I had a big argument with my bro this evening. He says that Olbermann is right. Obaman had to do this to get elected, and you can’t do any real good unless you get elected. The democrats can’t win with a candidate who’s perceived as weak. The soccer moms are frightened and demand a candidate who can protect them. Blah. Blah. Blah.

So far as I can tell, the center of the American electorate is to the left of all but about a dozen members of congress. But even someone who gets it as well as Olbermann does, which is pretty good, can’t shake the press corps mythology, what Glenn Greenwald calls The New Repubic Syndrome, that democrats can’t get elected unless they become Republican lite.

I subscribe to Harry Truman’s notion that “When a Republican runs against a Republican, the Republican usually wins.”

Nice fish…I jest got back from a tough week of chasin walleyes around Lake Vermillion up next ta the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) last week. We caught some fish but they were all too big fer the slot limits and the panfish and perch we caught were also big but didn’t make themseelves available in bunches. The week before my son and I spent 4 days knockin the hell out of ‘em on Lake of the Woods…the climate change in the last ten years and exponential increase in fishin pressure due to advances in technology have really knocked hell out of our fresh water fisheries here in the heartland of democracy and anus of progress. I’m glad you folks in Alaska have got yer numbers up there.
