ah- Da Band!!
Aloha, ES!
Don’t Do It!
ES!
Please! Don’t ya break my heart!
Jus Cogens!
I want to paint the mid-70’s panelling in the living room but don’t want to mess around with cleaning it first with TSP. Anyone know if strong vinegar would work as well? I try not to buy chemicals if it can be avoided.
es i was thinking this was going to be the song that little charlie & the nightcats do called ‘don’t do it’ but this one is new to me. thanks.
OMG! I’ve been asking myself the same question. Am definitely going to try vinegar on the smooth paneling.
Oh Suz, This is a classic, imo. Have a link to the song you are thinking about?
I read on The Google you can sand it, but that sounds like a big freakin’ mess.
Great song, Eureka! You speak to my G-g-g-generation.
lucky me – I got to see the Bob Dylan and The Band 1974 Tour in Bloomington, Indiana. Went with my sister, but still one of the all-time greatest shows I’ve seen…
i have no forking idea how it got past me, eureka. duh, its the forking band – i should forking know that song. i don’t have a link to a utube…
*jealous*
This song is both my home/roots and barely my generation too. I was born in Ronnie Hawkins home town.
Gotta catch some ZZZZzzzzzz’s.
Have a great late nite pups. Congratulations, Fresno State, men’s baseball National Champions.
g’nite tbsa
Last time I saw The Band was without Robbie on a paddle boat on the Mississippi River, King Biscuit Blues Festival, Helena Arkansas. Was a midnight show and that boat never left shore but almost capsized nonetheless! *g*
Ronnie Hawkins, with some Levon Helms.
dugg and thanks to tbsa for starting the digg
Sweet dreams, tbsa.
Better days ahead.
Love the Last Waltz.. on my third set of CD’s… they do wear out!
BTW, never sand paneling… absolutely not necessary. if it’s rough just shop vac it real well and start a paintin’.
I would like to dedicate this song…
This song.
Dang it.
the pump don’t work ’cause the vandals took the handle… woohoo!
Word!
I got to see The Beatles when I was 13…with my sister.
I say just clean it, prime, paint. I once decided to paint ugly wallpaper. The painters didn’t want to do it, but I said, “Oh, just go for it and let’s see what happens.” The paper buckled and bulged and the painters got all figgity, and I said, “Let’s see what we have tomorrow.” The paper dried — and I had a fabulous paint job that looked wonderful for years! Then I moved. Don’t know what the next folks did.
Hollywood Bowl?
I never primed paneling, but it always required three coats of whatever kind of paint I used.
i saw em at candlestick when i was going into 6th grade and had to buy my little sister’s ticket too.. she was in 3rd.
Oh damn. That’s the trump card there.
classic…
Was that their last show together?
No, it was in San Diego. Balboa Ball Park? Someplace that no longer exists. It was so cool…
Did anyone here get to Woodstock? Wish I could have been there.
yeap
First concert I ever went to was Air Supply at Zoofari at Cincinnati zoo. Took my pre-teens. Ran into the school principal and several other school folks. It was groovy. My kids had as much fun as I did. I led a sheltered life.
sister might not have been my first choice, but hey – she had the tickets!!
Did you and your sister scream? I swore I wouldn’t scream before the concert, but inertia overcame.
hell yes we screamed.. of course, she was a complete rube and was screaming for all the acts (eyes rolling)
I’m just concerned with what to clean it with. I’ll be damned if I’m going to give my money to Dow.
I painted over wallpaper in my bathroom, shit was stuck on but good. Could not get it to peel up. And it was glossy, too. But I never sanded it first and it came out great and it never buckled. I’m stuck with green and white tile so I did a green and darker green stripe above it (tile’s like wainscotting). For the darker stripe I used one of those sea sponge rollers, so it’s kinda loosie-goosie.
Still need to add crown molding, though. To hide the gaps from the foundation settling. Clay soil, y’know.
Heh, I was two days old…! ;-)
I’m prepared for that. I’m thinking 2 coats Kilz, 2 coats paint.
Whoa. Historic night. Sounds like the show wasn’t that good though. Do you remember that, or was it just all too exciting to care?
Such a Night!

Showin’ my age. *g*
dayam, can ya make me feel even older…
Check this out.
A condo skyscraper that moves/rotates…
Ten.
dayam, it has built in wind turbines in between the rotating floors….
Last time I painted paneling, I washed it with soap and water to get the grime off and then painted. Worked just fine. Looked lovely and paint stuck just fine.
The Dr. is in!
Sorry…! Jez saying…
i was teasing.. sorry i forgot the /s ct
Thanks, I’m feeling better. Going to start tomorrow.
We can read between the lines.
OK, panelling questoins answered. Are there any concrete engineers in the house?
Yup I did… Came home after 2 years in Germany and 15 days after I was dsicharged I was at WoodStock with my cousin and 2 other friends:>) Between the music and the people is something I will never forget….
Don’t know much about it, but isn’t that some horrific Feng Shui?
Damn…feeling really jealous tonight…
I guess that was the last live paid performance, IIRC, didn’t they climb atop the Apple studio building and gave a impromptu concert in ‘71 or ‘72?
i’ve heard that if ya remember it, you were not really there
yeap
I bet it was wonderful.
ANd I was just trying to remember my first concert. I think it was the Clash or Sabbath. I know my first ticket was for Lynard Skynard … but they crashed on the way to the show. Which explains why I remember. *g
Any Michelle Shocked fans in the house?
She played on the steps of the Texas Capital at an anti-war rally I attended, but I first saw her at the Kerrville Folk Festival.
if love was a train!
She sure has been quiet the last few years.. I hope she isn’t in permanent retirement.
The Chi seems to be spinning out of control.
I purchased the directors cut of the movie! It was almost like being there again:>) When I had seen it on the big screen I was simple amazed by it back then…. really felt like I was there during the show. We ran into another one of our cousins ther who was AWOL from the Army, he ended up on the front page on the Boston Globe sundays paper.
Huffpo.
I do not understand this Log Cabin business. I thought that if you’re a republican, you’re against gay lifestyles. Who are these LC republicans? It makes no sense to me.
It must be love.
I stayed away from the acid:>(
Could only find covers on the YTube, it was my first choice!
Wow, that’s freaky!
Huh. Almost my first concert was the one where Stevie Ray Vaughn died. Think I heard the crash while we were hanging out late in the parking lot. Didn’t know “what that sound was” until the next morning. Weird experience…
i haven’t been able to find maria mckee’s ya gotta sin to get saved on utube either :(
The brown acid, eh? ;-)
I hope not! When I saw her at Kerrville, she had this little piano with her. Not a keyboard, a piano. Made out of wood. About 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. It must be rotted by now, Kerrville was usually a rainy, soggy mess.
Ok, so how come gold jumpsuits went out of style?
Ha, about yer cuz!
That is really nice. Never had heard her before.
For sure! But I did not try any acid… now there were other vices to be had and we did!
because they are camel toes creators?
They did?!?!
Damn, no wonder I get all those looks.
Poly lame’ … Don’t worry, it will come back.

Well don’t let it go bad. /s

because they are camel toes creators?
LOL!!
(but you seem to imply that that’s a bad thing….)
OT. Anyone wondering how quickly you can get a job in DC after leaving Dodge, I mean the DOJ, with the sheriff, I meant the Inst. General’s investigators on your heels, can ask the lady directly. Seems failing to show up for that interview did not keep her from scoring the job interview.
TPM has found Esther Slater McDonald, Associate Washington, D.C.
Wonder how firm employing a known violator of DoJ policy and federal law finds the person support their core values especially the delivery of excellence part. Sure would be awkward if some of those excellent lawyers denied positions in the Honors Program are working to achieve excellence side by side with their deselector.

lets put you in one and see how it feels to sit down in a tight gold lame jumpsuit, jayt – and how all of your shortcomings are displayed when ya stand back up
If I remeber correctly, Kerrville made her famous. Just not here, in England to start. Someone made a recording around the campfires, you could hear the cicadas it was so amateur. Couldn’t miss the talent, though.
I thought it was ironic that the “inventor” of LSD lived to be 102. He just died recently…
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/new…..-dies.html
Ah, the flash back I was always promised!
we don’t permit that type of personal information but that she is free to link to the article from TPM
Ha! Long gone… but the effects remain.
Ok, another question. Why don’t more rock bands have saxaphone players? Oh well, at least the crappy duo thing stopped with the White Stripes/Black Keys.
I wore a jumpsuit for a 70’s Elvis costume on halloween once.. As the night progressed and the dancing got hot and sweaty.. I melted from Elvis into Prince.. The before and after photos are amazing.
DOUBLE CRAP… but you are free to link… dayam syntax got me again
Speaking of feeling old….shit fire.
I have a job interview on Friday building Flash animations. I am 58. Ever since I have been doing this (12-13 years) I have to get through the first 10 minutes or so as the other folks gawking in disbelief and wondering if I can actually even turn on a computer. Sometimes I warn them first. I say:
I am old, god damn it. But I can be fun to have around.
Who?
shortcomings? I look great in my tight gold lame jumpsuit.
I had not heard that one, thanks!
Good luck, mary. They would be lucky to have a firedog in their midst!
fingers and toes crossed that you are exactly what they want and need, mary mcc
Fine. Those interested can pursue the subject on dailykos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/24/162424/325
Who is this guy? One day he brags: “I don’t do cowering.” The next day, he’s so concerned about security that he give up on the rule of law and constitutioinal protection against warrantless searches. Where I come from, trading liberty for security is cowering.
I recently figured out Morphine broke up.. Bummer. I would know that Sax players sound apart from any player anywhere.
Canned Heat
BSRH – did you read the whole report? Scalding!
Yeppers.
They didn’t so much break up, as Mark Sandman died on stage in 1999.
I know what you mean Mary I am older and some don’t believe I DO know what I am doing on the computer! But my age always was a problem when interviewing…. that is if I even got a responce to my application:>( against the law but try proving it.
horizontality calls. Nite all.
He’s been consumed by the DLCers.. If in fact the fix wasn’t already in.. it sure seems to be now.
Happy horizons, jayt.
I made a new logo for our business. Wanna see it?
nite jayt
G’ nite jayt
And you can compute circles around John McPCilliterate.
Of course.
Carlos will wake you up JayT… but if not sleep well:>)

It’s a beauty. Illustrator?
NICE Mary.. love the reflection and the color.
I’ve been listening to another rollicking TX woman recently…Carolyn Wonderland.

Great ballad here:

Built in illustrator, rasterized in photoshop and then built the reflection
in photoshop. It is the first logo we have used that I really like.
g’nite jayt and any other leaving sleepy pup i missed while overseeing token’s tree saving expedition.
mary, that is sweet!
I like the fading colors and the reflection below.
No more self-employed?
How many trees were saved tonight?
There is a roughly recorded but wonderful recording of Carolyn singing in protest to the Houston Texas City Council, in session. I really wanted to post it in a LLN but the recording levels are just to low. Anyway she plays ES often.
I meant to say it’s on YouTube.
We lost our biggest client. It was a big ice cream/dairy/bombpop company in Iowa. A Mexican corp. purchased them. Freelancers don’t usually go with the new folks. I also need to find someone who speaks Spanish and understands a little of what we do to pitch the group.
I’ll look around. Thanks. She played at Cindy Sheehan’s Camp Casey and I’ve heard a clip online. Haven’t seen her live, but seems like it would be amazing.
1 tree and 2 shrubs
The real question here in California is how many trees burned today? Still over 800 wild fires burning in the northern part of the state…. They are talking about more dry lightining by Friday… Means mother Nature will be setting even more… Air quality warning also… My daughter has had to keep her two kids in the house for the last few days… they live up in the Grass Valley area….she is going crazy and so are the kids with all that pent up energy!
ca fire map
This is what i thought you meant
Bummer, sorry to hear that.
I heard on the news tonight that the number is up to 1000 fires. Sacramento and Rancho Cordova are in the red unhealthy zone on the chart. I cannot imagine being stuck with kids indoors. Wally the Best Dog Ever cannot figure out why I won’t take him on walks. He is getting a bit loopy. grrrrrrrrrrr.
The one hypothesis that I’ve not heard so far is that this was the price for Pelosi’s support in finishing off the primary in early June. A lot of party leaders got together and decided to finish it for him, but he may have had to make some concessions and this may have been one.
my offer still stands mary
Love the work. We might have to talk one of these days, since I own a small ad agency that’s getting bigger. Always on the lookout for people to collaborate with. Started career in film/video, so especially need animators from time to time.
Plus, I’m a native or your area and my better half and I are planning to move back to the area in the fairly near future. I’ll save your site. Cool stuff!
What a nightmare. Bad drought here in Austin, but thankfully no fires to speak of. (Knock on wood.)
WTF? That means they really have mucho big stuff to hide.
I’m not sure he needed them that badly. He had won, and it was just a matter of time. It now seems like more of a favor to Hillary than Barack.
Well I certainly think Pelosi (former complicit gang of four member) was hell bent on passing this CYA.
bonkers
email me at mary at dahothouse dot com.
I also know the most amazing 3d illustrator on the planet. And he used to be a rock n roll drummer. And a ceramic artist.
did she bother to show up or did she cave?
Dogs do not understand why they can’t get their walks and the energy the pent up has to go somewhere! So far it hasn’t been very smokey here in Deadwood City.. but they are predicting witha new low coming south of us we will be getting the smoke from the fires from south of Monterey
Cool. Even better, since I work a lot in music video as well. I’ll send a note soon. Thanks!
I don’t know if she showed for the cloture vote, but I was referencing the pressure Nancy may have put on Dems to finish off the Primary in June.
i’m certainly not looking forward to it nahant… its been hazy but i get all skittish and cranky when i can smell the smoke and the sky gets all pukey colored.
I just threw up in my mouth a little…
whoops.. sorry – my mistake… neverminding
Another day, another Beggie. Congress are sure outdoing themselves this month.
I received two spam e-mails from the Democrats today. Needless to say, I wasn’t kind in my replies.
Don’t swallow!
I know what you mean… besides if it gets too smokey I have to stay in… Asthma and need to be carefull… I don’t want to go through an attact again… like a fish out of water… all action no air.
Off that list (thanks for that), we most need to have a talk with Senator Whitehouse.
So this is what Global Warming is really like. I mean the more acceptable phrase of Climate Change.
Don’t worry, not that.
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
You are a nasty girl.
Call a Spade a Spade Mary GLOBAL WARMING…. no need to be PC around us pups… We know excatly what it really means
bigger and better everything! firestorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods
We need to have a chat with Murray, and maybe Reed (RI). I looked at Murray’s campaign finances at OpenSecrets.org, and while she has received telecomm money, it’s a pittance. I don’t know what she was thinking. She’s up for re-election next cycle, I think.
Announcement: One of our baby hummingbirds has started to fly. I was sitting here reading this morning, when he flew over to the window next to my chair and stared in at me. Then he put on a show zooming all around the back yard. His sibling is still nest bound.
When I’m bad, I’m good.
woohoo!
when i’m good i’m good but when i’m bad, i’m even better
You go girl!
I have been concerned about our hummingbird cause of the smoke. Little, tiny lungs. Haven’t seen them around in two days.
Cool! Got the camera handy?
Worst Hunter vs. Dumbest Deer…
i need a bambulance
Broke through to the net despite my virus attacker. Backjacks new trailer is now a bright gold (a deal in the mistake paint bin at the hardware store). He will be stlyin tommorow when we go cruisin the hood lookin good. He perks right up when he ’s on his fav sniff turf. Barely walkin but the nose is leading him around!
Creepy. Was that Cheney shooting. Oh, of course not. He would have had someone hold the deer down.
woohoo! glad ya got on bb – and bj’s shiny new ride sounds poifectly wonderful!
They are sure fun to watch… my sweetie was sitting in the yard and a female fly to about two feet in front of her face and kept staring at her for what seemed for ever then zoomed up to the EMPTY feeder and back as if to say “come on it’s empty fill it up already” it was amazing to watch..
Our do that, too. Ron said that they usually do figure eights at the window. One day the curtains were closed and they found a window were they could see him and buzzed. Sometimes they buzz Wally the dog.
Dibs on the backstrap.
gotta fight the dog for it
Caught your post the other night bigbrother tis truly heart wrentching as I said that night my last dog lived to be 17 … bad eyes hips gone… hearing … WHAT WHAT but you open the dog food and he was right there for his dinner…. Dogs are truly mans/womens best friend… enjoy you buddie as long as you can and he isn’t hurting to much… so sad when you must do what must be done FOR HIM! I know it is hard buuttt
ok pups, time for me to do that nasty just in case cleaning and then token and i are heading to bed. g’nite all
At my friends cabin in the foothills NE of Boulder, we would stand on the deck holding the feeder. They were fearless, came right up to it. They would fight each other off, too. They were pretty mean dive bombing each other.
Suz, that is not dog scraps. That’s breakfast.
nite suzanne
Aloha, Suz!
Pleasant dreams, Suz!
My wife will be home tomorrow and will be taking pictures, she promises.
Night, Suz.
I am going to bed. Good night ya’ll.
Good. I had a chance to see a hummingbird nest and tiny eggs once at a friend’s house. Didn’t ever get to see the babies.
Sweet dreams, mm.
Aloha, Mary!
Goodnight and good luck, Suzanne. Goodnight Mary McC, too.
And I’m outta here, as well. It’s been a long, depressing day. Goodnight, all.

Buenas noches, Maria. I’m out too, ‘nite Pups. I’m supposed to be painting panelling mañana.

G’ nite fabulous firedogs… Keep singing Don’t Do It, Senators til the last vote’s counted!
Good night sleepy pups I am doing the same… but here is Jimmy to end the evening…. see ya all later!
Good night, sleepy pups.
Ah, but the backstrap is teh good stuff. Slice it in little medallions and fry it quick. Huevos over easy, pappas, salsa rojo y frijoles refritos.
Then go back to bed for a nap.
Gone for real.
He watched with great interest as his “ride” was transformed to a chariot.
I guess the cinderella carriage has turned into the pumpkin…! Aloha, Ya’ll!
Not my first and not the most memorable but perhaps the coolest for me:
Fillmore West….
Rahsaan Roland Kirk on them two saxes…
Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Elvin Bishop and Michael Bloomfield trading choruses…
The Doors… up form LA for the very first time…north to the crystalline city of LSD by the Bay.
Don’t believe I’ve ever journeyed do far musically in one night.
Things to change so it’s Das Rheingeld this weekend!
Any late night lurkers want to give this a try?
TPM has a video of Obama’s security vs telecom immunity statement today, but I’d really like a transcript. Does anyone know where I might get one? Thanks in advance.
Albert Hoffman accompanied by Jimmy Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner and meddlied with Purple Haze runnin round my brain…good call Nahant awesome electric psychedelic guitar music! See ya on the rebound.
Doesn’t get any better than that wow.
Just had to sign back on to say Happy Birthday, LoudounLib!
Marjorie Cohn, t r u t h o u t:
Unless you’re John Denver, you can’t return to a place you’ve never been before. But, if I were one of those innocents released from Gitmo, you can bet your ass I’d find my way to the battlefield. Oh yeah.
why is that not surprising coming this administration. Scalia is, after all, part of the administration.
Wow – I leave to get some dinner and the place empties out!
If occupation and Abu Ghraib and permanent bases and that atrocity of an embassy and rendition and Fallujah and the surge and the now official torture policy of this government and congressional fealty weren’t effective enough as recruiting tools…
Recruiting tool? Keep this national policy up and the rest of the world will turn against the US.
Hey pups –
Earlier tonight I was very overwrought regarding Senator Obama’s FISA position.
Every political movement deserves their place in the sun (and sound): I apologize that I denied Senator Obama that opportunity here tonight.
By way of amends, here’s the proper linky for my candidate to be the Official Anthem Of The 2008 Obama Campaign:
Mouth Full Of Shit
My deepest apologies to Barry The Privacy Slayer.
Senator, I apologize that…
I wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire
However, all props to Chumbawamba, the artists who brought us Anarchy
With “leaders” like Barry, we may as well learn to govern ourselves.
LOL!
nite Kirk
nite pups
g’nite newt
get your world in order
newtonusr, I hope you had a great dinner!
sleep well and good dreams.
I’m off to bed myself — hoping for dreams of Annares. Or the changes Odo saw just before her stroke. Or perhaps those who walk away from Omelas.
Sweet dreams, pups.
thanks tw3k – good dreams to you as well!
thx! g’nite!
tw3k: OMG
terrifying image: perfect for the next months.
and now to bed — the eternal contracting job resumes Wed AM.
wish that’s when we could all awaken from the nightmare behind the images…..
