I would just like to point out that reading any history of either the US Navy or about the WH one will find that the historical role of the Philippino was not that of cook, but was in the Navy as mess stewards and in the WH as the same. IOW, they wore white gloves, and served the meals at big dinners. They did not cook-I rather doubt that gwb has ever tasted Philippine cooking,it is not the tex mex food he is used to and while I am not sure who fills the jobs as mess stewards at the WH today, it might well still be Philippinos.
Just as a BTW, does anyone else think it rather strange about how many times gwb mentions food/meals when having a presser with foreign leaders? He does tend to go on and on about it

I’d known about Cheney’s disrespectful habillements when he went to Auschwitz, in fact it’s emblematic of him for me —he wore a watchcap! that said something on it! and what it said was “Staff 2000″ of all things! But I had not realized that Barbara Bush was every bit as contemptuous previously. Another note for the file.

slaver Big Sugar doesn’t do anything out of the goodness of its heart

This was my first thought when I heard the news. Whatever the reason(s) behind this sell-off it’s being held very close. I’ve been fighting these people for 20 years and I wouldn’t trust ‘em if they told me the sun rose in the east and set in the west. With the 6 year time frame I’m wondering if they see the writing on the wall where imported sugar will seriously compete with them in the near future. They are currently very heavily subsidized.
