It’s been a long seven years, five months. And it’s getting longer.
Yesterday, Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited the White House. The trip occurred in the wake of the tragedy in that country where a typhoon devastated the coast areas and capsized a ferry carrying over 800 passengers last week.
So, sad, but really not too difficult a duty for a Head of State when such a foreign leader visits; you sympathize and make a gracious statement on the tragedy.
But, not the worst Head of State in American history:
I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that — in which there’s a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage. And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the — of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)
Yes it is appalling indeed. But it certainly makes sense that such a thoughtless bit of buffoonery came from the son of this woman who while visiting Katrina victims in her home town:
"What I’m hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this–this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."
Oh, we definitely need to continue this tradition with his designated successor don’t we?

Eh. I think it’s a non-issue. He sucks at talking like a retard, but I think it’s pretty clear he was trying to compliment the Philippino cooking.
This is a family, particularly the two Georges, riddled with malapropisms. I has to be genetic.
Lincoln once said “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
You don’t have to be nearly as smart as Lincoln to know this, especially when your family has been the subject of international ridicule for decades over it.
And Chimpy just keeps on digging.
nite pups
He sucks at talking like a retard,
????????? It’s OK b/c he was talking about the domestic help? The man is an embarrassment and continues, on a daily basis to bring still more shame to our already deeply shamed country.
Oh yeah….all of the “retarded” people I have known in my life, and there have been many, have something in common, they are honorable. Something the idiot in chief is not now nor will he ever be.
Good morning Attaturk and thanks for the post.

Citizen Newtonusr:
This grotesque characature of a human bein’ is the product of generations of inbreeding, the only other place you can see equal parts of stupidity and ignorance in one place is a couple states south a the Masom-Dixon Line (and these folks are from NEW ENGLAND, no less!!). Anyone who wants a good look at the American oligarchy in all it’s powerful and awfull hideousness take a look at the Walker-Bush line and its intermarriaes into family lines like those of Benjamin Franklin Pierce of whom dear Barbara is a linear decendant.
After watchin’ Obama’s near sell out on FISA today I’m ready for a complete makeover of this country and instead of the guiotine or the firing squad let’s jest convict ‘em all under anti-racketeering laws and throw ‘em on display in Leavenworth.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, WE’RE GUNNA BE NEEDED IN THE STREETS OF DENVER BEFORE THIS GETS RIGHT!!
It is sad to think that we may not be done with this shitty, degenerate family for a long time. Undoubtedly, Jeb Bush will be having a turn in 2012.
Mornin’, pups -
Totally o/t but I’m watching a rerun of yesterday’s speechifying by reps on Medicare reform and it’s a bit of a hoot listening to the republics in full voice whine….Dave Camp (R-MI) – “Bill has been drafted in secret with no review: 278 pages just added; yak, yak, yak.” Then we have the *lovely* Marcia Black (R-TN) continuing in the same vein. Brown-Waite (R-FL) “No time to read the bill; shame, shame, shame on the democrats.” Another one – “No hearing; no amendments; no fairness. Politics over policy; politics over people.” Funny how the shoe pinches when someone else is wearing it.
It would appear the dims have been learning a few *useful* lessons from the other side of the aisle. :-(
“Bill has been drafted in secret with no review: 278 pages just added; yak, yak, yak.”
Heard a few excerpts, including this one, on the news last night and had to go lie down. It was hours before I could get back up.
they are honorable
And usually very kind. I prefer to think that it is not for lack of understanding the alternative. Preznit would need another excuse.
Maybe he can just be a standup comic when he retires. I think he probably knows people have been laughing at him for quite sometime.
Hey george, if you are reading this I would like to point out thatchef Walter Scheib ain’t no Phillipino!

Missed this part (well, actually, my stomach revolted)……what was context?
Feingold says that he is going to filibuster. At least someone has some bloody balls. Me, I am writing in Chavez come november the corporate sluts we have been given are not worth spit.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo and Friedman today. MoDo tells us about “More Phony Myths,” and says Karl Rove is trying to spin his myths, as he used to do with such devastating effect, but it won’t work this time. Mr. Friedman’s column is titled “Taking Ownership of Iraq?” He says we may one day look back on the last few months as Iraq’s real war of liberation. The one we led five years ago didn’t count.

The coffee and tea are ready, and a batch of banana crumb muffins just came out of the oven. Only 209 more days with that buffoon in the White House…
Sorry, Waccamaw, that was in response to Mr. Cbl at 2.
Maybe some mint tea to settle that rancid Mr. Bush out of your stomach?
Is there a short answer to the FISA status? Is it all on hold til after the 4th?
Rancid republics…….that’s a keeper. *g*
George “Mr. Sensitivity” Bush.
Does that mean we have to set back the F.U. clock?
Sort of like Daylight Savings Time?
I’ve heard of moving the goal posts,
but 5 years does seem a bit extravagent.
Heh. The Great Moustache of Prognostication strikes again, although this time there’s no mention of any FUs.
Do the administrations of Yale and Harvard wince every time he speaks? I’d sue for defamation of their educational abilities, were I them.
There may be hope for the Everglades, according to the NYT this morning.

Citizen RevBev:
I think that One Hung Harry Reid is lookin for a place ta stash the rotting carcus of the FISA Bill until folks are all out at the lake and roastin’ hotdogs and shit on the 4th of July…he’ll bring it back in a panic and try and ram it through in order to get to the war supplemental and the housing and vets bills. So it’s jest like last time…he’s holdin’ off until the activists aren’t watchin’ and the pressure from the vets and the incumbants builds to bring sumpthin back ta the folks at the August recess.
Same old shit but this time I think we’ve learned ta play the game, if we ken shame and extort Obama to join the fillibuster that’s all it will take. I’m callin the DNC and tellin’ ‘em that I ain’t givin’ ANY more until they twist Obama’s arm and drag ‘im onto the floor for this thing.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNTION, WE’RE GUNNA BE NEEDED IN DENVER BEFORE THIS IS OVER!!
morning citizen norske. how’s your daughter holding up? has she been following the fisa debacle?
This will be a topic on Washington Journal this morning, slaver Big Sugar doesn’t do anything out of the goodness of its heart, it’ll be interesting to find out the real back story. But it is good news for the Everglades.
7:30-8:00 REP. JIM COOPER
D-Tennessee
Budget Committee Member
http://cooper.house.gov http://budget.house.gov
Topic: The Alternative Minimum Tax bill that is expected on the House floor Wednesday. The bill allows some 21 million taxpayers to forego paying the AMT in 2008. The bill also calls for offsets to cover the $62 million that would have been raised if the tax were collected. The Senate has failed to pass an AMT this year. The House passed an AMT last year and is expected to vote again Wednesday. The AMT was established to get taxes from people with high incomes who sometimes find methods to avoid paying taxes. But increasingly moderate income earners have become subject to the AMT because the tax exemption has not been indexed.

In his latest book, “The Cult of the Presidency: America’s Dangerous Devotion to Executive Power”, our guest discusses similar excesses of executive power that presidents of both parties have enjoyed and the willingness of both Congress and the American people to give a president more power than the constitution allows. Thanks. And in the meantime, have we heard a peep from Obama? I know he has heard from lots of folks out here.
Well, the Bush family was financing the Nazis during WWII, so it’s not surprising they’re still spreading their hate today and looking down upon anyone who isn’t worth at the very least, $100 million (I doubt there are any Philippine cooks who are). See?
Let’s not forget it was Barbara Bush who wore a box dress & flip flops to the Auschwitz Memorial when her husband was president and then Dick Cheney wearing an ugly fur-lined-hood parka and shit-kickers (type of farm boot) when it was his turn to go to the Auschwitz Memorial!
Bunch of disrespectful asshats they all are.
Good morning.
W’s a jerk. What more can one say?
I’d love an answer to that myself. But it seems a delay until after the 4th is a definite possibility. Say a prayer.
Anyone know if the bill to authorize (per sense of the senate) a naval blockade of Iran is scheduled?
I understand that some of the senators are waiting until their cheques from the MIC clear before voting. The same is true of the cheques from the telecoms. Once the cheques are in the bank the telecoms will get immunity and the war with Iran will go ahead.
I still think we all should be writing on our AT&T & Verizon bills, “AT&T & Verizon spied on Americans illegally before 9/11/01?”, when we send them in.
there’s more to this than a few thousand dollars in campaign money imo.
eCAHN, saw some of the pics from the party, looks like it was a great party!
It was really super. FDLers are great people.
Do you think Condi’s remarks yesterday about diplomacy with Iran were a figleaf? Or, does anyone ever know? Welll…
This FISA vote indicates that we might lose a net neutrality vote as well. Even my Congressman voted the wrong way. I’m in a real funk over that. Not to mention Obama.
Walter Scheib is no longer the White House Chef (way to keep the web sites updated, White House staff! It’s only been since August 2005).
The current White House Chef is Cristeta Comerford, the first female White House executive chef, and she is originally from the Phillipines.
BTW, donated (again) to Dodd. I’m hoping he’s flooded with donations. I’d love to help out Hillary, too. Where the hell is she?
Pix? There were pix? Where? Inquiring minds GOTTA know!
“And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this–this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them.”
[Mod note; Please don’t suggest or imply that acts of violence be carried out on others. Thank you]
h.con.res.362 is in the house.
When I spoke with the campaign last night (6:00 CDT) the word was that the Senator would vote FOR the bill. A nice staffer named Sarah.
She’s back and going somewhere with Obama (today, I think.)
Here are some. I haven’t consolidated all the links that people have sent me yet.

Citizen Selise:
Ah, a little snark so early in the mornin’?…oh no, not you,LOL. My daughter is not worried about the FISA Bill as much as gettin us outta Iraq and turnin’ the economy around and bringin on new fuels. But her response when I told ‘er how angry I was at ‘im, she paused and asked whether Mrs. Bill had joined the fillibuster…ya know she’s my daughter!! And she’s got a point…Obama ain’t gunna be caught on the floor of the Senate holdin the bag while the two Senators from New York and one from Connetecutt run off with the telecom money. He’s gunna hold that $10million over Mr. and Mrs. Bills’ heads and until there is a committment from the movers and shakers he ain’t gunna budge.
There is a lotta high level political calulus goin on here and my money is still on Obama.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNTION, AND DON’T CUT OFF YER FOOT ‘CUZ YA GOT A SORE TOE
I had been listening the NPR, and I think they had no FISA coverage (coulda missed it). But pretty good spot on the DOJ/attorney report and coverage of the housing bill.
Great pix! It looks like you had a blast, and did have good weather after all.
My 46 was for you, but sometimes “reply” gets weird for me because I can’t see links at work…
Thank you for posting these pics, eCHAN! Your home is lovely. What era was it built? I love the New England feel of it. ;-)
We had every weather except snow. Rain, shine, hot & humid, cool breeze. We moved the party back & forth between the tent in the back yard & the house a time or two. Sun came out when it was time to eat, though.
that was no snark, i’m worried about how our young folks will take the disappointment. hell, i’m worried about how i and other not-so-young folks will take the disappointment. your daughter is lucky to have you.
New Paltz was settled by the Huguenots starting in the early 1700s. My house was built by a Huguenot in 1817.

If you’ve ever heard the song “That’s My Daughter in the Water” you’ve got a picture of my 20 year old.
There you go bringing up reality again.
Scarecrow is upstairs with a new thread…
Jim Hightower had something good in the Texas Observer, relating to the old saw, “That if you’re not a Liberal at 20, you have no Heart & if you’re not a conservative at 40, you have no brain! He allows the have omitted the third part, “And if you’re not a radical at 60, you haven’t been paying attention!” He calls us “Aging Agitators”!
Very cool. Lots of history up here in them there woods! ;-)

This was my first thought when I heard the news. Whatever the reason(s) behind this sell-off it’s being held very close. I’ve been fighting these people for 20 years and I wouldn’t trust ‘em if they told me the sun rose in the east and set in the west. With the 6 year time frame I’m wondering if they see the writing on the wall where imported sugar will seriously compete with them in the near future. They are currently very heavily subsidized.
you may be taking up the environmental cleanup costs of their mess. And it isn’t a done deal per the Maimi Herald reporter. Wonder how much it’ll cost just to buy it.
Figure is currently 1.75B
The late Govenor Ann Richards was responding to one Bush but it applies to both”they were born with a silver foot in their mouths”As I said the qoute applyed to one,but this statement would make both of them eligible.
One is tempted to call him a zero so very often. But, then, zeros actually do something constructive. So I’m at a loss.
It’s mind boggling how the IQ of a whole family can slip below ZERO. I sure hope there is an average Mental Treatment Center close to Dallas/Crawford that will house this retard after he vacates OUR White House…
Talk about living in a bubble…..yikes….
Is that Dwight Eisenhower sitting next Commander Bunnypants?
I’d known about Cheney’s disrespectful habillements when he went to Auschwitz, in fact it’s emblematic of him for me —he wore a watchcap! that said something on it! and what it said was “Staff 2000″ of all things! But I had not realized that Barbara Bush was every bit as contemptuous previously. Another note for the file.
he’s value is what in math is called an imaginary number… a number which, when squared, yields a real number of less than zero. His presidency is imaginery… he lives in a fantasy haze of his own making, which he somehow manages to drag the rest of us into as well.
I would just like to point out that reading any history of either the US Navy or about the WH one will find that the historical role of the Philippino was not that of cook, but was in the Navy as mess stewards and in the WH as the same. IOW, they wore white gloves, and served the meals at big dinners. They did not cook-I rather doubt that gwb has ever tasted Philippine cooking,it is not the tex mex food he is used to and while I am not sure who fills the jobs as mess stewards at the WH today, it might well still be Philippinos.
Just as a BTW, does anyone else think it rather strange about how many times gwb mentions food/meals when having a presser with foreign leaders? He does tend to go on and on about it
