-- Today, we learn that Konstant Karl now feels revealing covert operative identity is a bad thing. What a sad, craven attempt to gain attention from a man who could not have given a rat's ass about the safety of the Wilson twins when he repeatedly opened his yap about their mother, all over the Beltway while serving quail wings to the media masses.
-- And speaking of mouthy gossip purveyors of national security secrets, did you hear the one about Richard Armitage being John McCain's top national security advisor? It is to laugh. Nice character selections in cronies you have there, flyboy.
-- Dan Froomkin has some profiles in real leadership.
-- Meanwhile, the WH refuses to even read e-mails from the EPA when the science isn't to its liking. Up is down.
-- Can't. Stop. Laughing.
-- Sen. Schumer is opposing the FISA bill due to telecom immunity. And Josh Orton has a kick ass suggestion for fashionable summer apparel.
-- Three snaps up for Amanda.

Shumer? Color me surprised. Reid might have to listen to him.
Afternoon, Jo — I was surprised he made a public statement about it at this point. It’s a good sign. Keep those calls going, folks — I’m hearing that a lot of phones are ringing constantly. Good on all of you!
Just called Schumer’s office, was put on hold. I asked the aide if it was because of FISA calls and he said yes. Couldn’t get his assurance that Schumer would support the filibuster, only that he will vote against immunity.
So Steny told Jello Jay that he, Hoyer, “wasn’t really schooled in the FISA issue”??? Why am I not surprised.
Jello Jay just called Steny Hoyer a “near saint” for his selling out of the Constitution and the Republic.
I am so disgusted.
So Hoyer didn’t know squat about FISA, he just knew he wanted to protect the president’s ass and his own telecom contributions.
OT - so sorry, - can’t help it.
Jello Jay just called Steny “A Near-Saint” for his work on FISA.
Now he’s rattling off the name of all of
his co-conspiratorsthe people who helped get this catastrophe passed. You-Tube material, I hope. That’s it - I’m officially an Independent, at least for the rest of the week.
i’m pretty sure he was protecting the democrats who signed off on it.
Schumer?!!
Pass me smelling salts!
Can’t stop laughing at the appalling threat posed by New Age Alpha Male Jim Halpert of “The Office”. Good God, I can see it now: a Showdown at the Box Office between the John Wayne caricature that Glenn Greenwald eviscerates in the first chapter of his latest book, and Jim Halpert of “The Office”. (FWIW, I’ll take Halpert by ten points any day of any week, and Halpert won’t even have to use a gun. Don’t tell Bill O’Reilly.)
Good on Schumer. Let’s hope he means it.
There’s an interesting article in the June 12 New York Review of Books by David Cole, “The Brits Do It Better”, about the legal aspects of handling terrorism (sorry, no link, I read the dead tree edition). A few selected quotes:
It’s well worth reading.
Bob in HI
Jello Jay just called Steny Hoyer a “near saint” for his selling out of the Constitution and the Republic.
ok - this is Steny’s big chance to move from near-saint to real-saint.
Perform a miracle, Steny.
Grow a pair. Represent your constituents. Reject, immediately, your whorish sell-out on FISA to your good friends and contributors, the telecom companies.
I’m really not expecting any miracles from Steny - so I guess he’ll remain in permanent “near-saint” status.
Ummmm…. yeah. I don’t expect Steny to recover from his Immaculate Deception any time soon, and it sure as hell is going to spawn some Serious Political Blowback.
Karma’s such a bitch. But she’s got a wonderful sense of humor!
I guess you’ve got to take the good with the bad with Schumer.
He’s trying to put the brakes on plans to stop the greed-fest in the oil futures pits, at least if his comments during today’s Joint Economic Committee hearing is any guide.
He does represent Wall Street, after all.
Christy, I can confirm that when I called my senators this afternoon, Schumer’s office told me that he certainly planned on voting against the bill. WHen I asked that he support a fillibuster, the staffer seemed to think he was open to that if one materialized. When I asked that Schumer start a fillibuster himself, the staffer seemed intrigued and promised to pass it along.
comment from glenn:
FWIW, what they do these days is the closest thing there is to a “real filibuster.” I believe it was changes to the Standing Senate Rules that were put in place back in the late ’60s/early ’70s.
Those changes did away with the traditional filibuster (think Jimmy Stewart in Mr smith Goes To Washington or Strom Thurmond in the early ’60s going against civil rights laws) and implemented today’s version.
The rules changes also changed the cloture requirements from 2/3 to today’s 60 vote threshold,
If Obama got up and delivered the kin dof speech Dodd has given. This whole FISA bill would be DOA. SO, when it passes, you will know htat he is NOT about change you can believe in. He’s just about himself.
a real filibuster these days is not the same as the “mr. smith goes to washington” variety - but there are lots of things that could be done to delay passage, if dodd and feingold were interested in more than going through the motions. don’t expect that to happen though.
i don’t have the links handy for the references - but they are probably in the dec 17 day’s threads.
well, that he is all about himself was know, as it was for clinton, some months ago. i had hoped he would at least care about these constitutional and rule of law issues, if he saw himself as a defender of our foundational values and myths.
that hope was baseless.
I hope you are proven wrong, but this cave on FISA is huge.
What’s more, it is disturbing his people don’t get the significance to his supporters and others who wanted to believe he would be strong on constitutional issues, like I did.
Dugg
Can you do the same…. Remember this is one avenue of monetary support the FireDogLake needs to stay in business. this helps bring us great posts from the cadre of great writers that Jane Hamsher has brought on board to keep us informed!! Remember is doesn’t hurt to digg and is free to join!
Two thoughts:
1) They must have gotten their toobz tied.
2) This comment assumes the WH deigns to read emails from the EPA about anything.
Afternoon, Christy;
Just reading Digby’s piece on outting the dogs …
And, natcherly, jus’ got to thinkin’ about your jello, I mean Senator, Jay-bird Pebblefeller, and you …
I’m a hopin’ that some day you might just follow Digby’s advice and consider challenging ol’Blue-Jay Boulderfellow.
Now understand, I wouldn’t wish public office on just any ol’ body, considering how that’s worked out for us lately, and I certainly understand the many reluctances which come into play; you are super intelligent, nuanced and complex, as a person,(none of which should be an impediment, in terms of seeking public office), you need to: get the Peanut well-launched in life, herd cats (well, ‘firepups’)on FDL, keep the current Congress-critters ‘honest’… and so on.
But, I’ve got to tell you that I really like the sound of “Senator Christy Hardin Smith”.
And I’m willing to bet, prolly a couple of others here would enjoy seeing you in the Senate as well.
That is unless you would prefer to be Attorney General in Jane Hamsher’s cabinet.
Of course, there is no earthly reason you couldn’t do both.
Later, the Supreme Court …
Hopefully, Christy, you will excuse this wee excursion into (serious) wishful thinking, but still …
I suspect you’ve little anbition to ‘run things’ which is precisely why it is only people such as yourself who should ever be allowed anywhere near real power.
Okay, these musings are very OT, yet, aside from Christy, I suspect most here will find them a pleasant diversion from sucking on our teeth waiting for certain critters to stand up on their hind legs and act like men and women of conscience, if not virtue.
The planet and all life upon it deserve far better than the reprobates now basking in their self-centered, narcisstic stranglehold on power, justice, reason and humanity.
Oh really he and Scooter were just hush hush on the QT? Or? Someone explain that to me. Or better not.
Don’t forget, that it was KKKarl and Bill Orally playing footsie.
Oh gasp, it’s almost dinner time. Please. What an image.
Unlike the other dem contenders who ran on a platform of policy proposals, Obama ran primary on a “trust in me” “change you can believe in” pitch.
So, when the others act like politicans, they never claimed to be otherwise.Obama did claim to be better than that
lol! sometimes the jokes just write themselves!
