It’s no secret, the Senate is getting ready to follow the House’s lead and screw us on FISA, letting telecom criminals off the hook. (For a real belly full of disgust, read this article on a preening Steny Hoyer in Politico. Did he write it himself?)
We do have potential heroes — Russ Feingold and Chris Dodd are extremely pissed about all this — but their task will be greatly aided if their fellow Senators hear that there is tremendous public outcry over this. If you’re on our email list in one of the key states, you’ll be getting an email from us asking you to call your Senator and let them know you feel strongly about this (and if you’re not on our list and would like to receive these kinds of notifications, you can sign up here).
If you’re not on our list, and one of the following is your Senator, give them a call and speak up:

- Carper (202) 224-2441

Jus Cogens!
I been all over my congresscritters on this repeatedly. I’m sure I am now viewed as a MEGO nuisance.
anyone have that toll-free list?
Neither of my guys (Domenici, who wouldn’t vote agin’ this even with his dementia, and Bingaman who probably is on the side of the Constitution in this case) are on the list but I called Harry. Fat effing lot of good that did.
BC
thank you for this jane.
reposted from previous thread (i ran out of impulse control waiting for a fisa thread).
from glenn greenwald today:
my bold.
obama’s offices:
senate DC office: (202) 224-2854
senate DC fax: (202) 228-4260
campaign: (866) 675-2008 (choose option 6)
Bayh is always susceptible to pressure.
McCaskill is the interesting one, and quite possibly should be the focal point of calls. She is the embodiment of Obama’s policy and thought, and has indicated that she is in favor of the bill.
PEOPLEPOWER!
Thanks ((((((Jane))))))

always works for me, but BO’s line was receiving a heavy call volume.
keep it up pups.
heh. sounds about right to me. *g*
All the numbers — including tool free and FAX numbers — can be found here as well.
“In matters of style swim with the current; In matters of principle, stand like a rock.” — Thomas Jefferson
Tell your senator that the Fourth Amendment and the goddamn rule of law are matters of principle, not politics.
Why is it even possible for the legislative branch to waive the law in the past? Why can’t the judicial branch tell them to go to hell on waiving the law via time machine?
Obama is in my neck of the woods today (big DNC fundraiser dinner at the Dorthy Chandler Paviliion this evening).
In other news, I have called my critters but I have no hope for DiFi.

did I see a link/comment in the threads yesterday that showed Whitehouse lumping himself in with McCaskill et al ?
Just talked to ‘non-traditional marriage’ Coleman’s office. I politely suggested that rubber-stamping Bush’s last hurrah would earn another vote for Al Franken. They were nice about it, and had received a lot of calls.
Of course I’ll be voting for Franken anyway. I rubber-stamp Deadheads running for office.
Hi all!
Just spoke to both Clinton and Schumer’s offices. Both are not in favor of telecomm immunity, but how they vote on cloture still remains to be seen.
[I’m looking at YOU, Chuck.]
yes.
Selise @ 5
Thanks Selise! I wanted someone to highlight actions that can be taken by those of us who do not have a Senator on the list.
Obama has the ability to bring this issue to the forefront, and all he has to do is keep his word… …loudly.
Lets let him know we expect him to start doing that!
I received an equally ‘polite’ response from DiFi’s office. I have no doubt that she will vote for immunity as she has long been in the pockets of big corporations.
called Feinstein’s office in LA as teh DC lines were full.
they said thank you. “I will pass it along. I understand.”
nice young man sitting in an office on the westside of LA.
Done! Gave my senators office a piece of my mind. Senator Nelson.
wonder if she will be at the big fundraiser here in LA tonight?? I have no doubt there will be some protesters somewhere inthe vicinity
Couldn’t get through to Feinstein. What’s her LA #, peterboy?
I just faxed Reid and Ensign yet again.

my senator aren’t on the list? but will call them and make every attempt to call every every senator on the list.
here are my first report backs:
just called kerry’s office – was told that he opposes the bill. i asked if that meant he would support a filibuster and got not answer, although i was told that kerry had supported the filibuster earlier this year. when i asked what filibuster, there was some hemming and hawing and then a reference to a PAA extension. when i explained that i thought there had been no filibuster this winter, that there had been an UC (no objections) on jan 31 that permitted the SSIC bill to be brought to the floor, i was hung up on (i wasn’t being rude or anything, just not buying the bs i was being fed).
called bayh – got voice mail
called carper – no statement yet.

“Discovery-Free ‘Persons Assisting the Government’” – to use the language of FISA – seems unwieldy.
How about Big Greedy Corporations Spying on Citizens?
Or, maybe just the Total Information Telecoms (TITs)?
Or, retrospectively, as Gore Vidal has long called them, Our Corporate Masters?
The staffer I spoke to at Reids office seemed annoyed and eager to get me off the phone. Wouldn’t tell me if they had received many calls or which way the calls were going.
Boxturtle (The Senator seems immune, but his staff is cracking)
Congress and The House/Anyone? Time to do it…We will support
I know this a little disjointed, but we have to start seeing these people as individuals who, for reasons known to them have chosen to take this country down the path it is on.
Not ‘politicans’ leaders or commanders. Those are titles. We are talking criminal actions done by Individual Persons using the titles of Politician, Leaders, Commanders etc to deliberately use as cover for Treason and High Crimes…
Judge: Why Litigate When You Can Arrest?
‘Congress has the authority to hold someone in contempt, U.S. District Judge John Bates said. Did it really need to go to court? House counsel Irvin Nathan said it did.’
Re; FISA;
Someone wondered why that this Bill would sunset in 2012 not 2009?
That’s a interesting question! Who voting/pushing/blackmailing for this Bill is due to retire/term limit out prior to 2012? and where/what is the connection?
Reid’s office has always been clueless.
((((( Jane )))))
I called Feingold and Dodd’s office to thank them for their continued work to defend the Constitution. Feingold will be releasing a statement sometime soon.
In the mean time, we are encouraged to keep on calling all Senators listed above. Please ask them to join in the Filibuster.
Will someone more knowledgeable than me please indulge me. Can’t Reid simply keep this from coming to a vote is there is enough pressure on him? Shouldn’t we be making his life miserable.
Did everyone notice that Feingold has said this morning on Democracy Now! he will filibuster?
Geez, Selise, you totally rock. You probably know more about how congress works than many congresspeople.
Thanks!
He keeps voicing how ‘impotent’ he is even though he is majority leader and controls things such as what comes uo for vote and little stuff like how many votes will consitute a majority, etc. He fails yet again to exercise any real leadership (how I wish Feingold were majority leader)
A rep. for Sen. Stabenow said she “had not talked to her on how she will be voting.” Encouraged her to honor her oath of office in protecting the Constitution. In the past she has said via letters that her biggest concern is “protecting the people.” She protects the people by upholding the Constitution.
It appears that the tubes ate my comment. Called Stabenow’s office and spoke to a fourteen year old who assured me she would pass on my comments to the good Senator.
Hi Christy!
If only Congress were “tool-free” we wouldn’t have to make these calls! Thanks for the quote in your earlier post. Wow, I feel validated as a foul mouth fem blog patriot. It’s an honor!! *g*
Hey. I pestered him for ya too, just because. along with my regulars and any senator whose head looks less than proudly patriotic.
Amounts to quite a few. But then, they earned the right to be pestered.
It’s OUR Constitution.
DiFi, no statement yet. Thanks, peterboy.
right on. I have grown weary of corporations’ rights being protected and the peoples’ be damned.
no way, but fdl has been a great classroom.
He did????
Just spoke to Feingold’s office, just to say Thanks. They are getting a lot of nice calls and like to hear them. Lady mentioned that support from Obama or Clinton would be very nice. Busy signal at Obama’s office fax, ditto Hillary. But my fax will keep trying until it gets through. Even though I’m really eating lunch.
Boxturtle (Feingold thinks this is still winnable)
obama – voice mail
inouye – no position yet, was put on hold (for a long time).
johnson – no position yet, voted yes last time. i, of course, asked that he reconsider and vote no this time.
… have to step away from the computer for a bit, but will continue to make calls. glad to see so many people making the effort. no need to be shy, i don’t think it matters that we have all the details – just let them no you expect them to vote no and if they are going to do that, make it clear that the only way to oppose the bill is to support a filibuster. the number of calls they receive is what matters most.
thanks to everyone.
Join the club! Salazar’s Colorado staff actually KNOW me. Good job, on us both, BobbyG.
Also,
Obama’s office told me he’s putting forth an amendment to strip telecom immuity. They didn’t say whether or not it was his intention to honor his word and filibuster this, but I urged everyone I’ve called so far to vote YES on Obama’s amendment.
FYI.
Just called Weinsteins office and voiced my opposition to the FISA Bill. I also asked if they were busy today and the young man said somewhat… so All you Claifornia pups need to get busy and make his day with more and more calls!
Oh and I did digg this post how about you?
((((( Loo Hoo )))))
Feingold’s phone attendant chuckled when I told him I was calling from Canada to thank him for his continued support of the U.S. Constitution.
-uh- we’re trying to do just that… yeah. pretty much.
WOW!!!!!!
((((Petrocelli)))))
That rocks. They need to hear that “the neighbors” are concerned at the deterioration going on in the hood.
:)
looks like feingold (and dodd) need some phone calls too.
dodd did promise us a filibuster – he has yet to deliver on that promise.
That’s funny. It’s amazing how you are more involved than 95% of Americans. Not funny, but you know what I mean!
I just called Feingold too. Told them to give em hell, kick ass and take no prisoners. At least it got a good laugh from them *g*
Just read about Feingold. He included Dodd. Not getting my hopes up but I, at least, feel that someone’s defending the constitution.
Yes. For sure.
McCaskill’s office is on answering machine due to high volume of calls – left a nice message pleading for her to READ the bill and vote against the telecoms. I called yesterday and the office guy was receptive, talked a while and made it sound like Claire is on our side, we’ll see …….
You’ll know you’ve truly arrived when the recognize your caller id and answer with “What do YOU want now?”.
Boxturtle (May be known as “Him Again” at Voinovitch’s office)
don’t worry folks, I didn’t actually say those words. But the spirit of those words were obvious..hence the chuckle
Called Salazar’s washington office again on this issue. I didn’t get the staffer i normally talk with about this. The guy i talked to was far less sympathetic than the woman i’ve talked with before. Plus clueless, said he’d pass on my objections but i distinctly heard the sound of rolling eyes. He didn’t know what the sen’s stance on this was but did know Salazar likely has no intention of making a statement about this legislation before he votes. Bad sign. He’s screwed us in the past on this issue. For a former AG he is very disappointing on such a crucial legal issue. Ugh.
Which Smith? Gordon?
yep.
i do not appreciate feeling deep-seated, seething anger every dang day all day.
that was not my aim.
it was forced upon me.
it would go a long way toward “curing” my anger
IF THEY WOULD JUST DO THE JOBS THEY WERE ELECTED TO DO!
They are not kings and royalty.
They work for the people of this once great nation.
Do the dang job or get out and let someone else do it. Period!
otherwise, i feel o.k. And you? Have some iced tea with fresh spearmint.
Called Cardin and Mikulski (both D-MD) but they’re apparently just taking tallies as neither would take identifying info –very heavy phone traffic on this today. Good!
ridiculous that I have to beg my public servants to uphold the constitution! what kind of oath of office did they take anyway?
i thot i heard Dodd carving out some wiggle-room yestidie.
i didn’t trust him any more.
so his office heard from me.
Feingold, I’m going to try to trust. If we can’t count on HIM, it’s all over.
“Discovery-Free ‘Persons Assisting the Government’”
Hmmmm, Let me try…
Discovery free = Unable find out what they are doing?
Persons Assisting = Shadows doing Illegal stuff??
The Government = White House/OVP = Criminals/Dark Lords???
How’d I do??? :)
When Feingold said “others”, do you suppose he meant Obama??
Called Ohio’s Senators. Brown’s put me on hold for a couple minutes, Voinovich went right through. Guess that tells you who’s getting more feedback.
Did you guys hear Reid this morning regarding FEC nominations that are getting rushed through…today is the 120th day the judge gave for the DNC to have before filing suit against McCain….It should be interesting to see where this goes…if it goes at all.
At least Leahy.
hey! it took forever for Reid’s office to get my e-mail connection hooked up.
poor sl… ahem…. senatorial-trainee.
NEXT? Seinfeld. Party of four?
s’cuse. a little mental slippage here.
Ok, it is Gordon. I got the e-mail.

I’ve been swamped past few days as mr and I are leaving for Brasil later this week. As always, there is lots to do before we leave and never enough time in the day.
That’s what I ALWAYS get from Salazar’s DC office. He SOOO badly needs replaced. Where are you in CO, rundown?
Have a few drinks on the heavenly beaches of Brasil for me …
Called Sen. Stevens’ office. Told them I feel – along with several friends and family – that if Ted supports Feingold it would help us to determine whether or not to support him in November. Which was a barefaced lie. I don’t plan on supporting him in November, even if he makes the best speech of his life in support of Feingold’s view.
so where the hell’s the Senate broadcasting.
I hate it when CSpan cuts to this other inane stuff.
I was WATCHING THAT, thank you!
In addition to getting our Senators to strip Telecom Immunity, I’m also asking my Senators to support Amendments to the bill that seem reasonable. One is from Specter (of all people)… But anyway, the Amendment would require a district to review the constitutionality of the Telcoms’ actions. It seems like our best bet to slowing the train wreck it this point. Perhaps we can also call our Senators with the same encouragement.
That’s great, Adie. Mind if I USE IT???
I’m about to call those on the list I do NOT like. That’d be perfect.
hehe
s
Geez. I called Senator Stabenow’s office and was greeted by an unenthusiastic bored sounding person. After i requested that the Senator vote AGAINST the FISA bill and my reasons why, she said “ok..i’ll let her know. click.” The other day I sent an impassioned email to her as well about the FISA bill and she responded with an email “thank you for your interest in immigration.” Sigh.
people tend to write voinovichy off as useless & clueless & a follower…
strange they’d think that…. blergh
i e-mailed him twice this week, many many many times in the past.
i’d love to politely make his life absolutely miserable.
he’s EARNED it. ;->
we’re headed home to Sao paulo first (blech) then we head for the beautiful Northeastern beaches. I will happily have a few drinks for you.
Senator Smith’s office was more receptive than usual, I wasn’t even asked where I live.
I called Specter and then Casey to ask him to put some pressure on Specter too.
Shumer: Staffer will add me to ”the list.” Hmm. ”In the past he has been opposed.”
Inoye: ”Will pass your concerns to the Senator.”
Obama:”Well, he is working on an amendment..” Will he abide by his vow to filibuster? ”Well, don’t know what he’ll do if this amendment fails.”
That is what I gathered, and hope I got it right.
I need that voice recognition software so I can get this stuff transcribed immediately.
That is interesting.. There is a lot happening in spook/terror-land..The Lots of Chess pieces are starting to move..Interesting times.
I called Nebraska Senator Nelson. His office staff usually asks for my name and zip code. They asked nothing. Simply said “alright, thank you very much.” Did NOT say they would pass along the message. Nothing.
Deeply dissatisfying but Nelson is pretty much a republican.
Ugh. The fix is in.
I have to visit Copacabana and Hawaii as soon as I get published …

condolences. i can just visualize that phone-jockey returning to her manicure right after hanging up on you. sigh. very inspirational senator there, uh huh…
you want voinovich? prolly no one would notice.
here. have some fresh mint tea.
I called Obama got a person. She said before i could finish “let me guess, your against it, you want him to filibuster.” I said “oh yes, please. Nothing is more important to me than our constitution. Whether or not he gets my vote depends on this, as far as I am concerned. Defending our constitution and holding this pres accountable would be “real change”. She said “okay, I’ll put you down.” (down on what??)
1,683 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher and the Firedog Patriots:
I jest called Senator Kohl’s office and spoke with a staffer who seemed to be genuinely surprised that he was gettin’ calls about this issue. I told ‘er that I was a constituent and was watching to see if Kohl would finally stand up for his constituency instead of his cronies…I told ‘er that I knew he was gettin up in years and probably wouldn’t run again but if he does and he doesn’t vote in support of the fillibuster there are a lot of us out here in the western part of the state that would work to see ‘im unseated.
I then called Durbin’s number on the front page and got the staffer holdin’ down the phones for the Judiciary Committee so I gotta twofer and left a message sayin that there was gunna be a change in leadership from the top down includin’ the Senate and if Leahy and Durbin wanned ta insure that the new Democratic president could govern and lock up new progressive leadership in the Senate they’d better get their shit tagether and organize a successful fillibuster against the FISA bill.
I think that this vote is gunna tell us jest how far ta the left Obama ken go and whether or not he will even be able ta govern from the “center”…it’s time for the elected leadership includin the junior senator from New York ta put the walk behind the talk.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION AND REMEMBER THERE IS NO COMPROMISIN’ WITH FASCISTS!!
Have a great trip!
Thanks for the tea….good idea.
I just called the campaign to request he honor the commitments he made about FISA when he was seeking the nominations. I let them know I’d been working hard for him and that what he did would no doubt affect how hard I worked for him in the future.
I’d be honored. Go for it! and THANKS!
Here, fresh spearmint tea to sip while you thrash the daylights outta the scoundrels *g*

KEEP THE FAITH WE GOTTA TELL OUR LEADERS WHERE WE ARE GOIN’ SO’S THEY KEN GET THERE WITH US!!
Have a great trip, wobblybits!
Not funny, not good.
Sewage treatment plants often smell terrible, but they do tremendous good. Much of the improvement in health status from the 20th C is attributable to responsible handling of sewage. Basically, a sewage treatment plant cleans up large volumes of shit and makes it safe.
Bush is the opposite of a sewage treatment plant: he took good, useful and useable ideas (the Constitution, the Geneva Conventions, the ABM treaty, the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, etc.) and turned them toxic. Not to put too fine a point on it, he turned them to shit.
What we need is a Political Sewage Treatment Plant to clean the effluent from 8 years of the Dim Son.
Called Clinton…they didn’t want my zip, she said she would pass the comment along. That was it.
Congress Critter phone numbers: Given how often they’re needed and asked for on this site, perhaps a link at the top of the FDL home page would be a good idea.
campaign: (866) 675-2008 (choose option 6)
That’s the number I called. I have used this number about 3 times in the last week with good luck.
Make those calls!!
Still an odd time/place for a suicide. Can we the Note/Political statement?
Abnormal, Israeli Military types aren’t usually this Dramatic/Obvious..
Sooo, who was he?
Our side killed Pat Tillman and has silenced others.. So has Israel.
just kind wondering/wandering though stuff.
There is definitely interesting ’stuff’ going on, though….
I called worthless Mary Landrieu’s office and got a hurried guy who didn’t ask for name or zip code. He said he’d “pass it on”.
The only other time I called her office was on the Alito nomination, where she voted against cloture. I got a followup letter saying that as a truly, truly concerned civil libertarian, she voted against his nomination. So not only was she in the wrong, she was dishonest about it and assumed I’m stupid enough not to notice the dishonesty.
I called Obama and called them on their bullshit. I told them no excuses: he made a promise and he needs to keep that promise.
they told me they were inundated with calls, none in favor of telecom immunity. they couldn’t explain why he plans to break his promise.
“change”, my ass.
copacabana and Ipanema (both in rio de janeiro) are very nice so are the beaches in Buzios (outside of Rio) as you head up to the Northeast you get the tropical beaches. Oh, and if you head up to Fortaleza and Natal…breathtaking
Thanks. It is technically going home (we have an apartment there) but our beach time is definitely a trip and a treat
oppps ‘can we see the note/politicial statement’
thanks. I’ll make sure I stick my head in before we fly out
I’m in Ft Collins. Musgrave territory, sadly, she’s no help. I’m hoping that Mark Udall will make us Coloradoans proud. Maybe the positive response he’d get if/when he gets to the Senate will help Salazar see that he doesn’t have to kowtow. Where are you at?
OMG … looking forward to going there soon …
I have internet access in Sao Paulo but none in the lil beach town we’re headed off to a week later.
McCaskill’s office said “undecided.” Have been leaving messages at Obama’s various offices and have talked to Reid’s a couple of times. I am with BargainCounterTenor, talking to dizzy Domenici is worthless. We do need to thank Jeff B for his good work on our behalf. Tom Udall did the right thing last week.
oh isn’t that fun?!?!
that sounds, word for word, like a “personal” letter i get from voinovich’s office about 8 – 10 weeks after every time i blast him politely thru the toobz. (i suspect he’s one who hasn’t a clue which end of a ‘puter is which, and staff at least as brite)
note how they’re taught to talk down to you, you ignorant #%*
Here. Have some spearmint tea. There’s enough here for everyone.
I cut ‘n pasted a fax to DiFi 202-228-3954
Citizen wavpeac:
Thanx I jest called the number and extension 6 and got a staffer who asked immediately if I was callin about FISA and then said “and you’re for a fillibuster right” and I said “you bet yer sweet bippy” and then I said pass the on the message that if he doesn’t have the chops ta organize a fillibuster within his own party with a majority in the Senate, he won’t be able to govern if elected and I will NOT send one more dime to his campaign.
KEEP THE FAITH AND THE HEAT ON THE BASTARDS!!
Got through to DiFi’s office. I expressed opposition to the FISA Bill. I told them there were unintended consequences. 1) by legislatively overturning a portion of the 4th amendment, it could give president to legislatively overturning Roe v Wade The fourth Amendment was the basis of privacy on which Roe was based. 2) that by granting immunity to the telecoms they would be able to sell state secrets or any other nefarious illegally obtained information to foreign countries or potentially terrorist organizations with out repercussion.
DiFi did not have a position yet. Responses were overwhelmingly opposed to telecom immunity.

I love the idea of a list on top..
The fact that ‘the firepups’ want/need it and do/will use it, actually makes me smile in a sort of ‘yeah we will/can’ sort of way…Grrrrr :)
very, very nice. I love it. I hope DiFi will do right by us but I don’t expect much.
Miss him already
switching over to faxes now – my inner Lewis is about to bust out in abject frustration X~(
Lewis Rothschild: All right George, can I tell you something? We’re gonna win this thing. We’re gonna get the votes we need and we’re gonna win this thing. And you know what I’m gonna do after that, I mean that very night, I’m gonna go to Sam & Harry’s, I’m gonna order a big steak, and I’m gonna make a list of everybody who tried to fuck us this week.
Robin McCall: Lewis!
Lewis Rothschild: [into phone] Well just Vote your conscience, you chicken- shit, lame-ass
nice! Good friend of ours now permanent in USA came from family in Brazil. So we have a soft spot in our hearts…
we are looking fwd to overdosing on tropical birds in Ecuador later in the year. we’ll wave as we zip by.
safe trip. beautiful country. We often wish we could manage to get to Br.
I got forwarded to Obama’s email, which was full and hung up on me.
Gut feeling: clipped, quick answers mean they’re being pestered up the wazoo.
Good on ya!
1,683 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
I think that our efforts should be concentrated on Obama, Leahy, Dodd and Durbin. The calls to Obama should also say that not one more dime would be contributed unless he shows the kind of political chops to organize a fillibuster from his own party that has a majority in the Senate. The calls to Leahy, Dodd and Durbin should include statements about creating new leadership in congress and creating the political environment for Obama to govern from the left. Durbin and Dodd should be susceptible to the idea of new leadership positions in the next congress.
KEEP THE FAITH AND THE HEAT ON ‘EM AND REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO COMPROMISIN’ WITH FASCISTS!!!
can’t think of the name of the island (north east beaches), but one of the best days ever was a day sail. gorgeous young brazillian sailors and bottomless batidas ! enjoy wobbs!
It is still home for me *g*. I love it but I hate the poverty, corruption, etc. but the people are wonderful (for the most part). I plan on overdosing on the southern sky, caipirinhas, cashews, fresh tropical fruit, fantastic food, beautiful clear water and sandy warm beaches.
Thanks to DVD’s and all the other electronic toys we’ll have him to laugh with and ponder his wisdom for a long time to come. This HBO special has been one of my favourites. “Conservatives love live babies so they can turn them into dead soldiers.”
Woot! ;->
Fernando de Noronha?
rinse and repeat.
don’t forget to mention Al Wynn :D
OK MODS…WHAT’S HAPPENIN TO THE POSTS??
Fat Chance Difi is a traitor and a coop out on the constitution:>) I have no faith in her and wish I had never voted for her last time around and I will never vote for again!
might have been (sigh) would have to dig out the slides to confirm
was lucky enought to have made a dozen trips – mostly to Rio de Janeiro, with 3 different sidetrips in to the Amazon. never hurts to flirt with WWF bush pilots :D
Citizen Jesterfox:
I got the same response the first time, so call (866)675-2008 “option6″ and you’ll get through.
In case I miss you here before you leave, have a wonderful and safe adventure. I guess this means Weebits is going to auntie mos ricky tic?
didn’t see anything on their site -
has there been any movement or statement from MoveOn ?
you are a honey, Adie!
ty
called di fi office. he says he is getting lots of calls against telecom immunity.
yes, and that’s all I ever get/got from her office. it was one of about 50 other reasons why I didn’t want her leading this nation.
that sounds just glorious.
and i don’t mean the poverty etc.
I kinda know what you mean there also. Ecuador has a severe problem in cities with “street kids”; so incredibly sad, and very dangerous. Brazil similar I’m sure.
What can they do? Ec. copes with a constant influx of desperately poor folks from Nicaragua, harassment from Columbia and Peru. The world is a difficult place.
We have it lucky in this country, if we would just share and care, in the official sense, and see to it our caring attitude extends beyond our own borders.
Random acts of kindness are wonderful, but they’re not enough.
Peace to you, friend. ;->
yeah, she will be in her new home. I’ll miss her like crazy but she will be well taken care of. I’ll try to post pics of her before we leave so you can see how big she is now.
please be kind to our mods. they’re busier than they might appear to you.
empty your cache.
refresh your whole page.
have some spearmint tea.
It is a sad situation. usually i volunteer to work witht he street kids but there is such a huge problem with these kids and drugs (huffing shoe glue) that it just breaks my heart)
Thanks for the peaceful wishes and peace to you as well
LOL
You should take a peek under this sheep’s clothing i be wearin’.
Citizen Adie:
I am always “kind to our mods” but I treat ‘em jest like the politicians I support…they get a wake-up call in case they missed sumpthin’, and in this case they did miss sumpthin’…
Sorry. Try one of these. I left two messages cuz the voice mail sounded flaky. others have had success with the campaign number at bottom.
senate DC office: (202) 224-2854
senate DC fax: (202) 228-4260
campaign: (866) 675-2008 (choose option 6)
You’re a gem and the world is a better place for it.
Peace be upon you and yours.
Blue Texan is upstairs…
Thanks! I called the number you gave me and I did get through. I spoke to a pleasant young woman who seemed to be enjoying her work. I told her that I was and Edwards supporter who had switched to Obama when Edwards dropped out and that I wanted see some of the change that we were voting for. I told her that it wasn’t enough to vote against the bill or to strip imunity from the bill. The bill itself must be stopped. She said that I was the eighteenth caller in a row that had told her that and her voice sounded like she was smiling. I told her that I knew that Obama had taught Constitutional Law and so I expected him to point out that it was not just a bad idea, it was unconstitutional. She thanked me for taking the time to call and express my opinion.
ouch. heaven forbid i should stand within range of your random harumph.
carry on. *ducks*
You know maybe we all just need to just slow down and think/breathe a bit…
Given that the GOP etc has played the ‘Political Game’ so well, so really going up against/taking down ”the political process’ has to be done one move at a time..
There’s a momentum/chess move thing etc…
Barak Obama is an ‘half’black’ American raised by a socially/progressively active ‘white’ mother who was married twice to ‘non’ white males. While Barak was ‘growing-up’, his Mom was working on/in poverty/related issues exposing a young Barak to the reality in the World and seeing/learning/living in other countries/cultures etc.
There was probably a reason why Barak studied Constitutional Law… so
it’s a bit early to bury him/his feet in concrete…
They know We are really paying attention now and changes have already come..
So, we go after the ones we KNOW are dodgy and support those who stand with US..Voice of The People and all that…:)
sorry for my late reply, had a thunderbuster here and shut down for a bit. thanks norske for the backup. can’t ya just smell the insulation on the phone lines heating up? Hehe.
Hi Wobbs….haven’t “seen” you for awhile. Have a great trip!
Question: The Republicans have no problem placing an anonymous “hold” on Senate bills, why can’t the democrats – just one – do the same with the FISA bill?
And while I’m at it, why the hell are the Republicans more effective in the minority than the bloody Dems?
Back to work.
Keep those calls goin’. The next 3 days are gonna tell the tale.
Jane has provided us with such an easily understandable summary that it’s perfect for e-mailing to everyone on your “contacts” list, together with a note from you urging them to call/fax.
Just did that for a bunch of my people who are Mikulski’s constituents. Not that it will do any good; she’s a total toad.
However, as Professor Turley pointed out, one objective is to let them know they can’t get away with this without a loud outcry from their aware constituents.
Outcry away!!
WRT to the second question, IMHO yes.
WRT to the first question, cboldt shared his info on this yesterday:
To me, an effective date of 2200 would be just dandy. I’ll settle for 2100, though.
aww thanks (((SD))
I like to help people/animals. Do what i can
Thanks Selise sent out a rocket to my list about the Cowardly Criminal Congressional Congress and Barkey…..
Interesting how Shakespeare was so right on about much of political life. I’m thinking here of, ‘The truth will out…..’
Thanks msmolly
W.O.R.M.
That just is not going to cut it, pal.
feingold’s office is busy, calling whoever I can and asking;
“do you realize this bill gives these companies the authority to sell our secrets to our enemies?”
hope ya don’t mind me quoting ya alla time when i make my calls.
you da man perris!
Holds don’t work for Democraps. Reid ignores Democrap holds but honors (to his dying breath if need be) any GOPer holds.
Just called Stabenow (and I truly doubt she’ll vote against any big business) and the line was busy so I had to leave a message. I added that the public outcry against giving telecom immunity is growing bigger and swiftly and I urged her to vote against this…
Carl Levin, Reid, Shumer, and Obama’s Chicago office all said they had gotten many phone calls, all angry, with regards to the fisa legislation. All offices said that the Senators are aware of the calls and the sentiment. Levin’s said they didn’t know what Levin would do but that he opposes immunity.Ditto for Shumer. Stabenow’s of course, had no idea what she does.
A person will pick up the phone at this chicago Obama number that was on Christy’s list last night. Ask to speak to someone about FISA
312-819-2008
The phone at Bayh’s office if too full for messages.
I wasn’t trying to be rude..?

Stinker.
..
Thanks Praedor. One truly has to wonder how America will ever cope while the opposition – which is in the majority – remains spineless and the MSM continues to mislead the public.
… Not with a bang, but a whimper .
I called Clair McCaskill’s office. The gentleman that answered the phone was polite and typed my message. He said he would make sure she got it. I told him I want her to honor the fourth amendment of the Constitution, to stand down the pressure from the right to violate our civil rights, and vote NO on the FISA amendment. squash it!!! If not, I will work to have her replaced in the next election.
I called Senator Harkin’s office and was he “hadn’t made up his mind yet.” I told his aide that I was very surprised to hear that, considering Senator Harkin’s past history in voting for civil rights.
I emphatically urged him to get his sh*t together (didn’t say it that way) and urged him to support a filibuster.
I called Senators Murray and Cantwell from Washington State. Left messages with both. I am uncertain which way they are leaning at this time.
I also called Obama’s campaign office–his DC voice mails were full–and left a message for him to fulfill his campaign promise and filibuster.
I’d LOVE to call but my senators are Kyl & McCain, so I’m screwed! :-(
Landrieu – phone rang for a long time before it was picked up. no position yet. asked for a no vote and a filibuster.
McCaskill – no position yet, but voted for immunity last time. was told that the reason she supports immunity is that the bush administration that should be held responsible, not the telcos. i said that i didn’t agree with that, but that the most important issue wrt the lawsuits is the opportunity to find out what really did happen and there is no way a person can be for holding bush accountable and for cutting off our only way of finding out what happened. expressed my disappointment that she signed the cloture petition.
continuing from above…
Mikulski – no position yet, i gave my pitch.
Nelson (FL) (202) 224-5274 – line is busy
Clinton (202) 224-4451 – line is busy
Nelson (NE) – supports immunity, thinks the telcos were treated unfairly
Pryor – voice mailbox full
Salazar – press 2 for staff, no position yet
Specter – is against telco immunity but does not commit to voting against a bill that includes it (surprise, surprise). is preparing amendments now. check website for details.
Feinstein (202) 224-3841 – line is busy
Webb (202) 224-4024 – line is busy
Warner (202) 224-2023 – no answer, let ring a long time
Snowe – no position yet
Collins – no position yet
Sununu – no position yet
Stevens – no position yet
Byrd – voice mail
Lincoln – no position yet (the person answering the phone had to look it up – that means they’re not getting enough calls!)
Reid – this one was a long one because i asked why a bill that a majority of dems in the house opposed was brought in such haste to the senate floor. i was told that reid opposes immunity. i asked why then had the senator only brought bills to the senate floor that included immunity (this one and the intelligence committee bill while burying the judiciary committee bill and the restore act) – that seemed to contradict his statement re immunity. i asked the person on the phone if she could help me understand how this could be. she said that senator reid was worried that the fisa legislation was set to expire and he wanted intelligence to be gathered in a timely fashion. i explained that FISA was still in place, that it would not expire, that wiretaps could still be obtained – even in an emergency without a warrant. she seemed genuinely surprised by this. i asked her to read the bill for herself or talk with someone who had because the statements that were coming from speaker pelosi and majority leader reid were not, as far as i could see, consistent with the facts. i think we’re not being told the truth.
Coleman – no position yet.
will start from the top tomorrow am, and then see how many additional senators i can call.
many thanks to all who made calls today. let’s do it again tomorrow.
quoting glenn again:
I just sent a message of thanks to Senators Dodd and Feingold:
I was going to telephone Senators Clinton and Schumer to express the same message, but am not getting through to either by phone, so I sent the following (similar) e-mail message:
Salazar is another “fool me once” guy [like Carney, Mrphy, Schuler, McNerney]. I gave to him during his first election; boy, never again!!
Hi. New here. Quick question:
It would help a lot to have the specifics on the issue. I want my Senators to support Chris Dodd’s filibuster, removal of telecom amnesty, and to vote against the final bill even if amnesty is removed – that’s my understanding. But I’ve been trying to find the exact names or numbers of the appropriate bills, so I can say “Please tell the Senator that I want him to vote for (or against) ‘X’”.
Can anyone help me out here? The regular media doesn’t seem to be listing the specific bills and amendments. Thanks!
