i crashed last night and missed this un, damn sorry, please pardon

just wanted to add on record..

“If Bob Dylan is called “the voice of a generation” then perhaps
George Carlin was “the potty-mouth of a generation”
(and for it i did love him so)

over the near 40 years i knew George, finally getting to meet him in ‘03, he began as a very funny comic whom i copied religiously (pardon the pun) on the schoolgrounds of my youth. ultimately he became the best sociology/critical thinking teacher i ever had (only James Burke comes close)

i tried to sum it up in a quote yesterday. “In an age of a Hurricane of Information, “stating the obvious” becomes a ‘life-preserver’(jacket), and George dispensed many a jacket in his lifetime, including one to me, for which i will be forever grateful”

thank you George.

(ps. mr carlin, you SOB, ya couldn’t hold on for 211 more days?)
‘cuz come 20Jan2009 i will be thinking about you, and how in your not-so-small way, made the day possible. tyvm.

SunnyNobility… you give me gold….. My favorite topics, poisonous patriarchal pedagoguey (spell?) and socipathic behavior (in leaders and corporations). I read Dean’s book a while back. Skimmed actually. I can’t wait to dig into this one, THANK YOU>

Hi BB!!

I have my own pet theory, too, from years ago. Loved theories of Eric Berne, Games People Play. He spoke of 3 main ego states a person relates to others from: parent, adult and the child.

AND, he had subgroups and one of the subgroups of the “child” ego state is something called the “pig parent”. That is the ego state that mimics the voice of the parent ego state but it is coming from the narcissistic and manipulative child ego state (not reserved for children…of course.. in fact I think a lot of parents who scold and punish inappropriately their kids from this ego state… make those damn “you are not enough to you are disgusting” tapes that haunt people the balance of their lives.

I look at Bush and McCain and Cheney and Rumsfeld and such people… and I see the “pig parent” with that know-it-all authoritarian stance… and people seem to lap it up.Looking for a “daddy/parent” and mistake the pig-parent.

You have to wonder how expensive carbon-based energy will need to become before we get off the dime.

Wouldn’t it be great is there were small, inventive entrepreneurs out there making a go of it?
Oh, wait…

There are some centralized generators and some home/busiess. I am finding their are a lot of business models out there/ Ausra epects to produce KW for consumers at 7 cents, we are paying 12 cents kw now. No oil. no carbon footprint and no negative balance of payment. Earth:The Sequel(2008) explains the detail. It is no nonsense factual compilation of how we can bring climate change under control. Nahant’s links are real interseting as well this book gives an overview of what has been going on the last 2 decades and where we are headed. I think now that Peak oil is here technology will make oil obsolete. Why destroy the planet’s atmosphere if you can live a good lifestyle without it?

Bob Altemeyer’s “The Authoritarians” puts authoritarian leaders/authoritarian followers/social dominators, into context.

Dr Altemeyer graciously makes book available free online. Can be downloaded with Acrobat (or Foxit reader - foxit less complicated/faster than acrobat for me, ymmv). Altemeyer was a major source for John Dean’s writing on the subject. Book’s set up to be an easy read - with an option to drill down into exquisite detail.

Here in SLO County CA AUSRA is building a 177MW plant due to start next year. The race is on and carbon caps will drive the large utilities to contract for solar power. A national carbon credit if Obama is willing too take the lead with Clinton, Gore and the Environmental Defense Fund, will drive the industry to front and center energy. With big oil capital they would be wise to invest. The great deserts of the world will be generating clean energy with solar thermal and wind supplying exisiting grid and steam generating plants. No more ocean outfalls as nucleear will phase out. The pendulun is swinging our way. Lotsa jobs, investment opportunities and our balance of payments will lower tremendously http://www.fi.edu/guide/hughes/oilcrisis.html. And that id supergood news for our economy. I would much prefer the corner electric station than gas.
