Bully for you. I gave to Sestak in 2006 but he’s off my list and Arcuri, whom I also supported. We have to draw some lines and I think protecting the Constitution is a good place to do it. I’ve written Bill Burton at Obama Campaign, sent FAXES to Obama, Pelosi and Hoyer last week. Obviously that was very effective! LOL

I’m so glad to see others feel as I do about this issue. For me, it doesn’t matter what Obama did about public financing, but what he does about the Constitution is another matter.

Folks, I would also suggest multiplying the effect of your work by writing a simple e-mail to your friends, family, co-workers etc. urging them to contact Senators [esp. Obama] on this.

a) the e-mail [yours AND theirs] doesn’t have to be long. [I can’t emphasize this enough!!!!] Just identify the issue, state the outcome you want, show that you’re a constituent. [Congressional offices, especially Senate ones who receive mail from an entire state, only count numbers. They have a team of “mail handlers” who tally in-coming mail on various issues and create the Senator’s response. He/she NEVER sees your articulate missive, so don’t spend the time.]

b) in your e-mail to your friends etc., it’s helpful to give them the link/address/phone number to use. [More likely to get them to write if they don’t have to search for that.] Include some links to Glenn, Marcy, FDL for explanation(s); thus you won’t have to write a long explanation.

c) I’ve also been suggesting a communication to the DCCC, DSCC and DNL. FDL et al. have raised an awful lot of money in an extremely short time. This should make these professional money-raisers take notice, particularly if you mention that THESE dollars aren’t going in THEIR direction.

Just think: 30 minutes or so on your computer today could produce a flood of communication where it will count, esp. of your friends et al. contact THEIR friends, etc.

Good luck and much aloha [love].

The questions subsequently became more substantive. To a query about health care, from a woman whose son suffers from a chronic disease, McCain offered few specifics. “We put the families in charge, rather than the government,” he stated. “If you like government-run health-care programs I suggest you go to Canada or Great Britain.”

this needs to be an ad

good idea

(While the event was billed as featuring “undecided” voters, it was definitely a McCain-friendly crowd. As the conservative blog Truth v. The Machine points out, the gathering “was populated by many friendly faces, several of whom I recognized as long time Republicans.)

Obama will have the option of pursuing criminal charges.

As pointed out by some of the various legal eagles here and at emptywheel, the Statute of Limitations comes into play.

The limit for criminal charges is five years. The earliest an investigation would commence is January 2009 meaning BushCo and the Telcos will already be skating on everything prior to that point. Even the most cursory investigation would not be bringing charges until late ‘09 meaning most of the Bush first term is protected.

And with the higher standards required for criminal prosecution (beyond a reasonable doubt for criminal versus preponderance of the evidence in civil), it ain’t happening.
