“y the “gated communities” with checkpoints, blast walls, concertina wire, fingerprinting, retinal scans and house-to-house population listings.”

Just like Newport Beach or Coto de Caza….wow!

“they plan to sue Congressman Murtha once this case is completed for calling the massacre in Haditha “murder.””

Good luck with that…
1. First Amendment
2. Parliamentary privilege (or whatever it’s called for congress)

Hello down here in EPU land. good post siun. no justice during the Bush years. I got excited when I saw Thomas More invoked and then oh so disappointed when I read on to see his name getting muddied.

One of my fave quotes from a man for all seasons:

To his son in law who thinks the ends justify the means:

“This country is planted thick with laws from coast to coast. Man’s laws, not God’s. And if you cut them down–and you’re just the man to do it–do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?”

As a former resident of Chicago, I would be more than a little ticked off if someone firebombed the whole place.

OK, I’d be more than a little ticked off even if I wasn’t a former resident . . . But that does put the whole mess in perspective, doesn’t it?

Thank you, as always, Siun.

Way late, but with Misters Kristol and Bolton being so privvy to sensitive military intel (shades of Colin Powell, but I digress), as far as timing and location, perhaps we should request status of each of their respective security clearances?

Amen, Rev… Juan Cole was on fire today…

By now, summer of 2008, excess deaths from violence in Iraq since March of 2003 must be at least a million. This conclusion can be reached more than one way. There is not much controversy about it in the scientific community. Some 310,000 of those were probably killed by US troops or by the US Air Force, with the bulk dying in bombing raids by US fighter jets and helicopter gunships on densely populated city and town quarters.

In absolute numbers, that would be like bombing to death everyone in Pittsburgh, Pa. Or Cincinnati, Oh.

Only, the US is 11 times more populous than Iraq, so 310,000 Iraqi corpses would equal 3.4 million dead Americans. So proportionally it would be like firebombing to death everyone in Chicago.
