After last week’s cartoon, it just seemed natural to follow-up this week with Birds Anonymous, starring Tweety and Sylvester. This Academy Award winner for Best Short Cartoon (1958), is a Warner Bros. Inc. Merrie Melodies production, with voices by Mel Blanc, musical direction by Milt Franklyn, and directed by Fritz Freleng.

By the way, a blockade is officially an act of war, e.g., it was the reason Israel felt justified in launching the Six-Day War in 1967, and the reason that the Japanese felt justified in attacking Pearl Harbor.
But what would happen if we picked this fight? According to http://www.agoracosmopolitan.c…..01932.html we’d lose the Fifth Fleet to antiship missiles.

Well where is it I just might find some room for that even after Wangdang served up all those goodies:

from the article cited:
Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills) put off a vote on the contempt resolutions while he considers his options.
“I don’t think we’ve had a situation like this since Richard Nixon was president,” he said, appearing determined to press ahead, even if it leads to a court fight. “We don’t know whether this privilege that’s being asserted is valid or not.”

Over the last three weeks 77 House Democrats and 92 Republicans have agreed to cosponsor a new resolution against Iran that demands that President Bush “initiate an international effort” to impose a land, sea, and air blockade on Iran to prevent it from importing gasoline and to inspect all cargo entering or leaving Iran.
By the way, a blockade is officially an act of war,…
OMFG – they’ve all gone mad.

which begs the question: just who owns this government? who bought and paid for it?
I don’t have a link to the exact recipe my wife used, but it is pretty explanatory…I added the swiss and the Dijon mustard…if you google a few of those ingredients you can find a lot of good possibilities

I don’t know this for a fact, but i have been buying bleu cheese dressing for 30-some years, and it is my belief that shortly after 9/11/9/11/9/11 some of the food manufacturers changed the “bleu” [french for blue] to “blue” as in red, white and blue…you know, sort of like Freedom Fries
now I buy only the brands that say “bleu”…I happen to think the French are good people and longtime allies of the U.S. and should not be shunned.
are you getting hungry, enn-ess-aaa guys?
just who owns this government? who bought and paid for it?
afraid there are just too many entities which profit from perpetual war to nail that one down.
I meant what I said about madmen though. Read a story not long ago that a good-sized number of generals had to talk Cheney down off the ledge of bombing Iran in 2007.

Yes, and they’ll probably be virtuosos when they’re adults as well, which is great. It’s just that I’ve had a personal and emotional journey in discovering what music is all about for me. Of course, it can mean different things to different people.
I am (was) as fairly accomplished jazz musician, always searching for the most complex chord changes and solos I could play, but had a change of heart when entering my 20s.

Exactly! The Democrats in congress are going to ask Bush to commit an act of war against Iran in hopes of preserving Israel’s nuclear monopoly in the Middle East. And, in fact, by U.S. law the president is obliged to place an arms embargo against Israel for being a nuclear proliferator.
BTW, see my earlier post: http://firedoglake.com/2008/06…..nt-1508676 It has a link to a good diary on this resolution over at Dkos.

Obama or (D) supporters should be a little more worried about Cheney’s drive for war – if not for moral reasons, of course not, but political ones.
if Cheney and the neo-cons get their way it could make things change the electoral calculations significantly, especially if there are American casualties, then this country will be seeing red.
Don’t try to unlearn it – just don’t let it be the dictating factor. Take advantage and use it to push the boundaries.
A good example is Wynton Marsalis. Totally classically trained – plays Mozart like an angel. But he’s in charge of Lincoln Center Jazz program now – and can he ever jam! He uses all the range, fingering technique and stuff to really produce some fantastic music!
This is driving me freakin’ crazy. Heard this really great song by a steelpan player on the radio, but only got the guy’s last name, and have had no luck finding any info on him. Anybody familiar with a steelpan player with the last name of McKnight? I tried calling the station, but the DJ wasn’t picking up.

lokywoky! And, I should have said I also like violin music! In my view, violin/ fiddle is the best of instruments- and probably the most challenging for every sort of reason. Mind you, I am not a musician by any stretch of the imagination. uh, can I sell you a couple of used fiddles? ;)

‘They’ have BEEN insane since Nixon and the nation elected ‘em twice. I think we’ve got a problem folks. Welcome to AmeriKKKa home of all things Fascist.

And the Iranians have also read it.
There will be no attack on Iran. The military would mutiny.

Militaristic forces, both here and in Israel, would prefer McCain to Obama (no matter how much he panders and wears Israeli flags in his lapel and prostrates himself at AIPAC meeting). Barring a state of war and/or some brutal “October surprise,” McCain’s prospects seem to diminish every time he opens his mouth. The man is truly demented.
Therefore, I’m predicting a state of war and/or a brutal “October surprise.”

Such a blockade imposed without United Nations authority (which the resolution does not call for) would be widely construed as an act of war. Some congressional sources say the House could vote on the resolution, H.Con.Res. 362, as early as next week.

we owe a great debt to military officers who have laid it on the line and resisted Cheney and the neo-cons. There was friction with the CIA as well, with careerists refusing to sign on to the bullshit.
however- the USAF seems a little too gung-ho, and full of radical christianoids, as well.
those guys would push the button, would use nukes if ordered to.
A hard-refresh will get you fixed up.
Be warned, the War Nerd’s not exactly polite. Smart, but definitely fucked in the head. On the plus side, he hates the neocons, even had one (Victor Davis Hanson) Thinking he set fire to the guy’s grapevines or something.
The violin is an interesting instrument. It’s normal (first position) range is that of most human voices in the four parts. Under certain acoustics, it can even sound slightly human as well, kind of an unearthly sound.
It’s an all-purpose instrument – as you can well see, from folk music to the most high-brow classical. It is devilishly difficult to play well – the jokes are endless about screeching and wailing etc. Intonation is a big problem since it doesn’t have frets like a guitar or banjo. The strings are constantly stretching – even during a long performance you have to re-tune it. The instrument responds to changes in humidity with changes in tone, or completely cracks apart.
Jascha Heifetz used to say “If I don’t practice for a day, I notice it. If I don’t practice for two days, the whole world knows.”
heh.
Acitizen, Hannibal, Wigwam – this has been great, but having anyone agree with me at FDL is strange, bizarre, and now my eyes hurt and I gotta rest.

Bob Barr is saying that various enemies of Iareal are looking for a big target. I think Silverstien was the owner of the complex on 9/11 and that was the second attempt at it.”“They want to kill as many people as they can, they want it to be a big splash,” said former CIA intelligence officer Bob Baer, who says he met with Hezbollah leaders in Beirut last month.
If Bush is willing to risk the 5th fleet then Fallon was doing his duty as a high ranking Naval officer to oppose that risks to his troops and the fleet he was responsible for. Impeachment is the only way to stop that war it looks like.
Silent is not careful. Caution was throw out the window when we invaded Iraq without an exit plan, an occupation plan or a clear policy.
The war is what Americans want to end. This Iran dialoque is saber rattling. I agree we needed to be careful a long long time ago. The price far outweighs the reward. And startubg another war while we have two more going is suicidal.
This whole friction between the services has been going on as long as there have been separate services. The marines are always complaining about everyone else, but they rely on the Navy for transportation. The air force complains about everyone else, but then the Navy has its own air force and so the real air force can’t go anyplace they can’t fly to. The Army was there first and doesn’t like any of the others because they were there first. The Navy thinks the Marines are some sort of sub-human subset.
Unbelievable. Next!
Um, OK.
I’m out…
Good one !
Should just let the Army absorb the Air Force, particularly given how many billions the AF has wasted on useless crap like the B2 and F22. Sure, those planes are neat, but they’re completely useless in modern warfare.
nite wdd
Good night wnagdangdoodle sleep well:>)

Planes don’t need pilots any more. So, let the Army fly them.
yes I guess it does. I’m back up on YouTube now.
I used it on macs at school but haven’t tried it on my PC at home
Cool!
If Opera’s working, stay with it.
so is it a flaw with IE that it sometimes doesn’t work well with sites like digg and youtube, or is it a problem with those sites that they don’t work well with IE?
Is there are Linux version?

Here’s my all-time favorite orchestra piece.
http://www.nme.com/video/id/M3_Px2yXVbw/search/54
Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture. A tone poem of exceptional beauty.
Enjoy – and now I’m really leaving. Nite!
I have always been impressed with violin players especially so many great women. I so good to have all your favorites to listen to. I attended a harp concert in Winchester Virginia and was pretty blown away at 16.
I get a little rowdy when folks talk of war as it sure is horrible. I’d like war outlawed. I’d likw war weapons outlawed. But false flag operations have been used to sell weapons as long as I have been alive.
When I was little I got to lay on the living room floor and read National Geographics every issue had different themes a great travelogue. I grew up thinking this is our earth and it is so wonder filled. But the warmongers spoil it for the rest of us. Many millions of innocent unsuspecting perfestly nice people, through no fault of their own, are devastated by WAR.
We maintain a military as a protection from agression and Bush is using it preemptively to start wars in our name. 68% of us want it stopped.
I have no excuses for not using Opera. It’s just new to me and I haven’t gotten used to logging on with it. It even imported all my bookmarks from IE, which was the main reason I was reluctant to try a new program (thinking I would have to import them all manually). So why don’t I just click on the Opera icon when I want to visit FDL? Just need to get used to it, I guess.
There’s this…
A war of aggression, which this would be, is the gravest of crimes against humanity. Moveon.org or someone should take out an ad in the SF Chronicle pointing out that, if Nancy Pelosi continues to enable Bush’s war crimes and crimes against humanity by protecting him from the only constitutional remedy (impeachment), then, under the Yamashita Standard of the doctrine of Command Responsibility, she is every bit as guilty as Bush, and should stand in the docket at the Hague next to him.
With Bush’s administration from bottom on up to the top! Might as well through in Anthony Scalia also… he sure needs Impeaching also.
Let the war crimes trials begin
Thanks. I’ll give it a try. Meanwhile, I’m using FireFox.
I’d like to start with that smug asshole.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m not recommending it – I use Safari with Mac OS.
I have no idea what it will perform like in linux.
As wigwam casts a pretty wide net.
And I’ll bet he still recieves comunion … report him to the pope!! Maybe bring him to an Inquisition or two!
Firefox has been pretty good so far. But I’ve always found Apple’s stuff to have very elegant user interfaces.
just don’t upgrade to FF3 yet,,, still has bugs especially with youtube and Real player..
Safari is as stable as it gets, but lacks some versatility. Trade-offs, the ones you would expect. Firefox is buggy crap that does everything.
I read in the paper recently that Paraguay has elected a rather democratic government. So, Bush’s retirement options may be diminishing.
one of our staff put in a couple of protection features that now protects me from most of the stuff that provokes FF’s bugs. It and a lot of the ad software don’t play nice together.
From Consumersearch.com
Yep. And Firefox includes some insightful and interesting nuances. Open a bunch of tabs – click a link into a new tab and close the new tab – you are returned to the originating tab, not the last one in the sequence.
Safari lacks this, and it’s a great navigation plus. Some other little but important things, too.
But try to break Safari – can’t do it.
thats because you are running on a mac:>)

How do you like the quad system?? Fry’s has been having the q9300 with motherboard for under $400. and as low as $250… Been tempted but my lap top has been running great and I am not ready to replace my servers yet… to much freaking work for now!
Bridges on the river Kwai starred Alex Guinessand William Holden I beleive was the story od prisoner mistreatment by Yamashita’s forces. It offended all back in the 1950’s. I so remember the cover of life magazine of a knelling American soldier with a ten penny nail driven through his skull between thw lobes of his brain. The deprivation of these POW’s was beyond disturbing it was horrifying that the kids that were recently out of American high schools were so mistreated.
My point is Wigwam’s The chain of Command comes with strict codes of military conduct enforced by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I beleive Admiral Fallon must have thought of that as he was dismissed by Bush. Bush is the top of the chain. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are the ones who are calling the shots. They are responsible.
IMPEACH the all too much blood has been spilt for their buddies to make $$$$$ and more $$$$ that is our hard earned money… not theirs And the worst of it is none of them really served in the military… you can’t count Georges make believe time… Gee all of his records are missing… just like most of McPain’s are also!
The doctrine of “command responsibility” holds that those in a position to stop war crimes must exercise their authority to do so, or they are guilty of those crimes they’ve enabled/permitted. So far as I know, it doesn’t say that this principle only applies to totally heirarchical organizations like the military.
It’s a MacPro (gasp!!!).
Well pups time to get some sleep.. it has been fun… see ya all next late late night:>) Newton has it cooled down enough for you yet? It is real nice here
Does Apple have servers?? I never checked and was just wondering…
Yeah,. 82 now.
And servers-r-apple
nite nahant.
Exactly. The blood spilt is a horrible evil, a crime that cries out to heaven for vengence. But this war is about treasure, not blood. Bin Laden has been very explicit about his aim, namely to bankrupt the U.S.
How could anyone more perfectly play into his strategy than has George W. Bush?
How could anyone more perfectly express his ignorance of what’s happening than McCain, who is endlessly telling us that the surge is working because the fatalities are down, and that once they stop killing our soldiers then we can occupy them forever, completely ignoring that this war is not about body count, but rather about treasure.
And how can anyone except an Admiral’s son, who sleeps through lectures and finishes at the bottom of his class, so completely miss the teachings of Sun Tzu, the father of military theory:
The U.S. economy cannot afford the neocons’ war hobby. Maybe they can go back and sell more of their brilliant strategies to Netanyahu.
Did not know about this doctrine. You are a good teacher on a lot of levels. The moral gap in our society is pretty blatant. The ethical gap in our government is as well. I am not surpised that The Ugly American” image has fallen over the last 50 years. Thank you for hanging in on this thankless task of saving our democracy.
I think ultimately it is up to the citizens to decide how they want it. Good Night All.
We are all in this together. In this fight some of us throw rock. Some throw boulders. I throw pebbles, but I throw them as hard as I can.
Time for me to get some sleep.
G’nite.
nite bigbrother
wigwam does have some chops :-)

i’m outa here as well. got Magny-Cours in a few hours.
Testing to see if I can post.
Been through computer hell and wanted so much to partake of the discussion, especially about Iran. Too tired now. The spirit was willing, the technology weak. Will return later on Sunday and read this exchange. I am very alarmed by the Iran war spectre and still licking wounds from the teleco immunity loss.
Have a good night. :)
Wazzup, pups? Are we winning yet?
I think the other 48 Staters have left the building…! ;-)
Good morning.
morning eCAHN!
i’m soooo looking forward to meeting you and everyone else this afternoon!
When are you starting your drive?
Good morning. To the Oligarchs and Plutocrats: It’s not yours to give away.
10:30am from my house is the plan
Okey dokey. Drive safe.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Kristof, Friedman and Rich today. MoDo gives us “The Carla Effect,” and says if an American would-be first lady described herself as a “tamer of men,” it would take more than an appearance on “The View” to sweeten her image. Mr. Kristof writes about “The Two Israels,” and says even if the Jewish settlement in Hebron, in the West Bank, were not illegal in the eyes of much of the world, the financial and diplomatic costs are mind-boggling. Mr. Friedman’s column is titled “Mr. Bush, Lead or Leave,” and he says it is hard to find the words to express what a fraudulent, pathetic excuse for an energy policy President Bush’s new plan is. Mr. Rich suggests that “Now That We’ve ‘Won’ Let’s Come Home.” He says perhaps if there were a draft, there would be 1968-ish turmoil now, but in 2008, the Vietnam analogy doesn’t hold. The center does.

The coffee and tea are ready, and there are chocolate croissants I picked up while doing errands yesterday. Here’s hoping eCAHNomics and the pups gathering at her place today have fabulous weather. We’re all looking forward to seeing pictures… Have a splendid day.
Thanks for the good wishes. The weather probably isn’t going to be great, but I’ve got a big house, so alternative is available.
