An unfortunate thing happened at an Obama appearance this week
At a rally for Senator Barack Obama in Detroit on Monday, two Muslim women said they were prohibited from sitting behind the candidate because they were wearing head scarves and campaign volunteers did not want them to appear with him in news photographs or live television coverage.
The Obama campaign said it quickly called the women to apologize after learning of the incident. “It doesn’t reflect the orientation of the campaign,” said Anita Dunn, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama. “I do not believe that mistake will be made again.”
and the New York Times felt that this was notable enough to put in the lede of the story because Senator Obama’s volunteers are so concerned about the rumors that he’s a secret muslim that they’re afraid to
But the incident, first reported Wednesday by Politico.com, pointed to pitfalls the campaign faces as it moves into the general election and seeks to maintain control of Mr. Obama’s image by tightly managing his public appearances.
I guess it is pretty notable when a politician makes an effort to control how they’re presented to the public
The campaign on Monday barred cameras from a large gathering of African-American civic leaders Mr. Obama attended. It recently refused to provide names of religious figures with whom Mr. Obama met in Chicago and directed some of them to avoid reporters by using a special exit. And on Wednesday, the campaign orchestrated Michelle Obama’s appearance on the friendly set of “The View” and a flattering spread in the pages of Us Weekly.
I certainly see their point. The managing appearances thing? Tacky.

Julia!
Hola!
julia!
I still find the Mission Accomplished the most infamous of the lot…!
Julia!!
Just in case you missed it last thread, here it is again.
ok – that does it – Super-Soakers at high noon – on *your* home turf.
got driving directions?
Hellox3!
I’m sorry I’m so late, I’ve had trouble getting the posting thing to work.
Bush’s nose scares me. It’s like NOSTRILLA!!!
Can you navigate a ship…? ;-)
i’m just glad the hardworking tech crew got things going smoothly again
nice to see ya on a thursday julia
I’ll say. But better late than never, GF!
a picture is worth . . . . . lots of them word thingies.
Great stuff, Julia.
But aren’t you missing one (or a thousand) photo ops with the troops behind and in front of him?
(Or at least the plastic turkey one?)
those pictures….. illogical associations…. like witch hunts and smear tactics….
But Julia, don’t you know it’s just different when a Democrat does it?
/grrr
i like the halo one.. bet georgie does too
Hey, you. Likewise.
I had some linkage, but what RevDeb said about the pictures (although I feel like I should point out that Bush’s $3 million/yr image crew hired the same european klieg lights for the Katrina photo op that they used for the Statue of Liberty 9/11 thing.
Not that there was anyone in New Orleans who could have used that money more.
The one with the boxes? Had “Made in USA” labels pasted over the “Made in China” stamps on the boxes.
Also, yay techs.
Can you navigate a ship…? ;-)
there’s no highway to Hawaii?
Y’all oughta recruit Ted Stevens for a term…
LOL!
Priceless comment there, RevDeb.
I can’t decide which one is my favorite. But I’ve narrowed it down to “misbuttoned shirt” and “made in China cardboard box backdrop”.
Priceless, jayt!
hahahahahaha
But expect much, much more.
It’s only June!

Say what? Zee toobz, zey acht uup againsk.
Codpiece Commander Guy will always be my favorite.
It is also the favorite of Chris Matthews and G.Gordon Liddy.
I do not presume that it is usually possible to tell when a person is lying by analyzing facial expression, but that look on George W. Bush’s face when he spoke about yellow cake uranium is one I’ll associate with mendacity as long as I’m able to think about such things.
try clearing your cache.. we are running smoothly backstage and i’m having no problems
I found the entire incident to be troubling. First off: if the Muslim women wanted to appear with Senator Obama, why in full garb? I realize this is part of their religion but they are not dolts and must realize that this appearance would be used against him. If they wanted to appear with him and help him, they would have to compromise their appearance. If they do not do this, who are they trying to help then?
I am not saying this is correct: it is not. I am saying that it is reality. They know it. I know it. You know it. The truth is that appearance do count and those people who understand the presentation of ideas will utilize any means to present information in either positive or negative ways.
Anyone who has ever been in the minority is aware of this. When it comes time to honor the majority it is best to step back and get along. That is all. Doesn’t make it right but it is part of the process that gives us all a chance to make it better.
So, next time Laura shows up with a scarf on her head will Dan Bartlett make sure she’s sitting in the Pioneer Gallery?
I sure am glad Preznit GreenScreen is just a reg’lar guy who has a (non-alcoholic) beer with us folks at the Old Ebbit Grille for Friday Happy Hour. He’d never stoop to stage managing an appearance.
Hey y’all!
It sucks that the volunteers did what they did. Unfortunately, if these women had sat behind Obama the picture would be on every “news” show, daily paper and nutjob website within minutes of it’s release. I hate that this happened, but I hate much more the mindset that would turn an innocent photo into some sort of “See!! We told you he was a Muslim!”
OK folks Neuro has Dugg it what about you?? Way to go Neuro:>)
Can you Digg it, baby?
sorry I fumbled the football nahant tossed me and fell down on the Digging job, I was busy calling Congresscritters about FISA
Please Digg it now!
Offhand, I’m thinking it’s because they support him, wanted to give them his support publicly, and are required by their religion as they understand it to wear their head scarves.
dugg and thanks neuro (and nahant)
hey, nahant! I think we are on the same page tonight, so to speak, Diggwise!
Hi, Suzanne!
Dick Tuck, a Dem consultant and prankster, once arranged for a sign in Chinese to precede Nixon in a parade in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The sign said, “What about the Hughes loan?” which was a major embarassment to Tricky Dicky. Chinese parade watchers had a good laugh.
At least it wasn’t a full length burqa…!
Wow, me too. I had the feeling then that he was trying to put one over on the whole world.
I know someone like that. Same facial expression, same BS artist.
Thanks for the reminder, I haven’t done that in a long time.
And for those of you still waiting for Colbert… I give a big recommend, he has the Cookie Monster on tonight.
ney neuro
Seems so Neuro… Glad we make such a good team:>)Now folks you know why we digg the post don’t you??
I would have faced it head-on, like he’s doing most everything else. That was a bad decision, excluding those women. Yeah, it’s indeed problematic. But’ it’s gonna be a lowball issue anyway. Wingnuts will eventually Photoshop Mooslims in to doctored pics.
Sorry to repeat, just want to make sure everyone saw this…
Your moment of zen.
But Julia,
Sometimes showing your support requires you to step back. A sad commentary but absolutely true. I just retired as a teacher. I spent nearly three decades as a white teacher in an African American School District. If the newspaper or television station came to do a story on the school that showed us in the best possible light, the white teachers moved to the back. No one asked us to and no one ever would. It was something that we did.
I just think that these two women could have sat in the audience and showed their support. They did not need to sit front and center. That was a inconsiderate choice on their part (IMHO because it put the campaign staff in a no-win situation)
spell check is you friend Suz!
umm, this was in Michigan which has one of our largest Arab populations.
I certainly don’t think supporters need to disguise themselves to suit the media or the otherwise ignorant and bigoted.
setting glare to stun.. there are not spelling police down here in the comments
Laughing with you, not at you, nahant!
Or should I say… laughing at your, not with your?
Dang Suz can’t take a GOTCHA??
how freaking hot did it get at the cabin by the creek today?? I t got to 103 here in deadwood city!!
97 in the shade at the creek – 104 in town – have i mentioned i carry my own personal summer around with me and have no need of additional triple digits?
ROTFLMAO!
yeah, i know well of those personal summers.
and the personal summer nights that come with them.
God bless ya, dahlin’
i think of the ladies i knew who didn’t make it this far.
and I think that when we say we’re who we are we mean it.
I’ll always treasure this one.
Kinda makes up for some of the others, although when you get down to it they all wear pretty badly for him.
(Wiki says “this media has no description”. Nor does it need any.)
Sooo…Meet the new boss, same as the old boss?
Dam Suz ya have to teach me that trick so my tomatoes grow to perfection!
Obama at least has apologized to the two women. They seem to accepted it.
Although I think some of his volunteers and staff may need to step back and compare their actions to their words.
that’s just creepy, and the buildings behind him look like depressed toons from Roger Rabbit.
Julia,
“and I think that when we say we’re who we are we mean it.”
I am not disagreeing with the sentiment, only the action. Why is it necessary to thrust yourself into the spotlight in that situation? Who are you, then, promoting? Senator Obama or yourself?
Yes, I believe that we should promote the inclusion of all people but the reality is that promoting that inclusion has its limits in American Society. If we choose to ignore these limits then the task will never be accomplished and we can look forward to more of what we have been enjoying. I refuse to do this.
If people cannot swallow their pride to promote the general good for a little while, then their selfishness speaks very poorly of them, doesn’t it?
WADR, while I do see your concern, I truly believe that asking people to understand that they’re second class citizens and behave accordingly is not something Democrats do.
That’s a good point. I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a quick and brilliant comeback on that.
“depressed toons”
Maybe that’s it! There’s always been something there that spoke to me besides the, um, main composition.
DWDD– I have been to many rallies with candidates in NH.
I stood behind and in front of the candidates with all sorts of folks.
We are a country of many, aren’t we?
They were trying to support their candidate– a candidate who asserts that there are no limits in America.
hiya y’all!!!!! New York is HUGE! And my grandparents have a really cool house just outside.
That’s not even next door to comfortable…got AC?
Folks over at Dkos are calling on Obama to take a stand worthy of someone who teaches constitutional law at the University of Chichago, sort of like Johathan Turley at Georgetown. Over six hours ago, his staff announced:
Nothing so far: http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..413/538615
I keep hearing how Barak has to turn toward “the center,” which to news-casters means to the right. Meanwhile, so far as I can tell, but bulk of the American is to his left.
And, damn it is taking this lecturer on constitutional law a long time to decide which side he’s on. Jonathan Turley seemed to have no problem.
Well back to the grill them chicken leg’s are just about ready for serving to the family oh did I mention teriyaki chicken leg’s, potatoe salad and corn on the cob… be back when sated!!
Enjoy!
It is pretty darn grand.
Look, the “behind-the-candidate” television image is always managed, or should be. Remember how mocked the Obama campaign was for the three Abercrombie & Fitch Lads behind him one victorious night?
Sitting behind the candidate isn’t random, and never has been. If the volunteers were told “think about how it might look on teevee” and they took that to mean “exclude muslim women in headscarves,” they went too far. But those volunteers would have been blamed for the fallout, and the fallout would have happened.
Expect the Obama campaign to manage this aspect more carefully, and at the staff rather than volunteer level, as they should do.
And expect the Democratic nominee to be scrutinized on this much more minutely than Old Lord McCain. It goes with the territory — the Media Bosses & Owners of Everything Else want McCain to win, or hadn’t you noticed?
Aren’t you a little horse tonight, Suzanne?
Not until the fog comes in… but it is cooling down nicely now:>)
We are, aren’t we.
Just outside where?
Hi Cassie!
So glad all is well — did I tell you that my daughter just moved to NYC and lives on the upper East Side? She is in love with New York! How is Betsy?
Hey Snarkie! Have fun!
I’ve got a fine collection of the halo ones. Amazing how many there are – mostly involving the preznitial seal.
Tease.
delurking to say…
Hi, Snarkassandra!
Evening, all.
Nor is this a brand new issue. The latest version is clearly operating in the same constitutional netherworld as all the others.
I had about six of them, but they got cut for space.
Shameless, though, don’t you think?
exactly.. thanks for saying what i could not find the words to explain
I’m thinking that Obama has a speech coming on this issue. It’s deep, and he goes there. Hope he will on Telecom immunity.
Cassie! Chris! Margot!
oooo, I’m running out of juice…
just outside NYC by the George Washington bridge.
That’s about where I’m at.
You and Teddy,
My pals and thanks.
Hey, Snarky…hi to Aunt Betsy.
Hiya Wang!
Weehawken?
If you get a chance, take a hike by the Palisades. The Hudson Valley is a really beautiful place.
WigWam!!!
hey cassie.. tell aunt betsy i’m sorry i was too busy to chat when she tried earlier… hope ya’ll are having a great trip and lotsa fun
Yep, the press assault is beginning:
Yahoo headline:
• Analysis: Obama chose winning over his word
CNN headline:
Ticker: Obama camp lying, McCain camp says
-G
You owe me a recipe. And I have one for you, too. I’ll facebook it in the morning, if I cant’t get it together before lights-out tonight. : )
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb…..06-19.html
please oh please read what boehner said tonight on the newshour–here’s the transcript……..quick read.
”after kabuki the dems finally reached across the aisle”………he actually said that and more.
i wanna slam something mighty.
i want everyone to know the exact wording he used so they can slam it back in their phone calls tomorrow. the words this man used while our dems are making nice with him……damn him…….he is in my home district. my family and friends hate him. with a passion.
damn him…..son of a bitch………read what he said.
1-800-450-8293
i am beyond pissed.
Screw ‘em.
Team Obama knew when and where and what when they announced.
They will respond accordingly.
Here is an update:
Goodness…has your daughter got a really great job?
oh, i got lotsa words tonite – the lake’s been down all day and i’m backed up!
I am not allowed to name the town on the thread but if you email me I can tell you.
You’re a braver man than me… I saw Boner coming on and I switched it off.
‘No. We. Can’t. Do immunity.’
I see a short future for the Ds after this summer, if we can’t beat this piece-o-crap bill down again. WTF do they think we’re calling, faxing, writing them for? Our own amusement?
I see a really short future for Steny-the-fink and Jello Jay. I don’t think they’ll be getting nearly the respect they think they deserve. I hope some of their constituents, the ones they actually meet and greet, tell them exactly what people think of this piece-o-crap bill, and them.
RonD! Where have you been? Thought you got tired of the primaries.
Re FISA, I left this at Marcy’s place.
What Steny Hoyer, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Rockefeller, and Reyes did today is a by now familiar tactic of Congressional Democrats. Given the choice for standing up for their base or attacking it. They attacked it.
Whatever else you can say about the Republicans they are loyal to their base no matter how loony that base is. By contrast, the Democratic base is fact based and results oriented, and gets constantly subverted and trashed by its leadership.
Bravo to the campaign and to the young ladies.
Neither sham nor subtlety is their long suit.
Teddy Partridge,
Look, the “behind-the-candidate” television image is always managed, or should be.
Thank you. That was really my point. These women CHOSE to want to sit behind the candidate even though they knew this would cause him problems. Why? I am for inclusion of all in the campaign and it positively sickens me the way that we have denigrated Muslims in this country. Our ignorance is a public embarrassment. Having said that the reality is that managing the presentation of a candidate is a reality. And you and I are not going to change this.
Nice discussion: thanks all. (And Julia, we absolutely agree in case you have not noticed. :) )
Sen. Clinton’s Washington mailbox is “full,” but I was able to leave a message with her New York office. The Kos diary has the number.
Nice. Thanks Teddy.
Why oh why do we keep having to fight this battle?
OK, I know, I’m naive.
Hi Loo Hoo! No, life just kind of went nuts about 6 weeks ago, and I literally have not had time to jump in to a decent conversation, though I have lurked some. . At least this time I can honestly say it wasn’t my fault…Hey- are you going to Netroots Nation in Austin?
She is the recipient of the Tiffany Internship for the year May 2008-May 2009 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ms. CE just graduated from the University of Delaware with an M.A. in American Material Culture. Given that her parents are complete geeks, it is fitting and we are proud.
about campaign finance?
I think the two relevant questions are
1) who made a legal commitment,
and
2) who said he’d negotiate the issue with the Republican candidate, who has since demonstrated that he’s negotiating in bad faith, since he’s clearly not committed to obeying the law.
McBrain trying to be the first candidate to be elected on a platform of – “I can whine about anything – anytime or anywhere”?
(note to McBrain strategists – he’s really *annoying* too. Use it – you’ll thank me later. No charge).
Are you? I can’t afford the price of admission, but I here there’s a swim party at Deep Eddy on the last Sunday.
That was a typo, but I’ll go with the sham…
Or so I hear.
Good for him.
I truly believe that culling the Democratic herd in case someone might disapprove is a sucker move. They’ll keep disapproving until we’ve disavowed everyone who’s likely to vote for us unless we step up and tell them to back off.
People vote for politicians who they see as having the courage of their convictions.
Hey, WDD…not confirmed yet, but my Magic Eight Ball is saying signs are positive…
me, too! re-runs of CSI are much more soothing to watch!
FunnyD
Haha! You too? I think we’re forgiven. At least, I hope so.
and the headscarf bruhaha npr reported on the other day—-one of the women is a friend of a politico reporter who sounded very pleased to be in on it………a lady was asked to be in the seating behind obama, she said she had friends, they had headscarves, so worker said, no no, then the the lady with one, after raising shit about it, said she would be satisfied with a seat behind him in the future, moment of fame kinda thing i thought, in all of the parties, asshats.
what the hell is running our country? enough already…………i have issues and i want them heard. and they have nothing to do with who sits behind obama.
http://www.npr.org/templates/s…..d=91658107
’senior reporter at the politico” hmmmmmmmmm.
Wow. That’s awesome. What a great job.
Congratulations.
Good sign, Ron! I just hope everyone has many cocktails so I look better in a bathing suit.
The Grey Lady on FISA…
I hate Eric’s depiction…! 8-(
EX-fucking-ACTLY!!! What the hell is their problem in taking a stand on this, especially after “You’ll be hearing from us soon.” If they’re having difficulties coming to grips with this, then I’m having difficulties coming to grips with them. Are they seriously thinking of abandoning their base in favor of the corporatists. Glenzilla’s post this morning is yet another cause for concern among the base: http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
Obama has to be put on notice!
True story….I haven’t been to Texas, other than an airport, in 23 years. Bad memory…I shot off my mouth in a bar and literally wound up running for my life down through some Houston alley…worked on my diplomacy after that. Are you in Austin, too?
Awww, thanks. We so love her.
Yes! We must meet up.
Proud, as you should be! Wonderful news.
I can’t find your e-mail, but you can get mine from Suzanne.
If you get into the city while you’re nearby, come by and I’ll buy you lunch or a cup of coffee or something.
teddy at 97—no, as of this afternoon, one of them still wanted to be seated behind him at a public venue and was still causing shit……….see my 122 link……..
i’m about ready to retire. between the firepups and the congress i’m about worn out.
the truth outta rule.and until it does, well, i don’t know what to say. gotta mile left, after that, i may be outta here.
I gotta go to bed. Its late here. Bye from somewhere near new York.
RonD. Practice this line: “God, man, if I’d known she was with YOU.” If you get the emphasis right, he’ll buy you a beer every time. But, blow it, and you dead meat.
Change your name?
This speaks volumes…
Oh fucking shit!
i’ll take care of it julia
Yes! First round is on me….I really hope I can do it. Should know in a day or two…Crawl out of my cave and meet everyone.:)
Bathing suit? Oy.
Aloha, Cassie! I’m glad ya’ll made it safe and sound!
Don’t you have a backstage?
Her Dad is bursting with pride. AND, I bought her an air mattress so that we can visit. I haven’t been to NYC since I was a wanton undergraduate at the University of Delaware, and went every month with my roommate. We had such wild times in the early 70’s. And the art scene was fab! Ooops! This isn’t Late Late Nite yet.
Oh, this was WAY worse than that….no women involved, believe it or not. Just me, 10 ft. tall and bulletproof, verbally abusing cowboys on their home turf.
I’m a lot smarter now.
OOOOOPS!
This working full-time stuff has fried my political brain.
That’s
FunnyHusseinDiva
check your email cassie, introductions sent
as ever, you rock.
Me, too. No more money for candidates. No more involvement from me. I’m moving to the country. Grow a lot of peaches. Blow up the teebee. Find my own goddamn jesus.
On my own.
that’s kind of a complicated question this week ;)
Thank doG yes, Houston is scarry!
And if he doesn’t listen, it will be time for a third party after the election.
prime prine :)
Maybe some day there will be volunteers looking for 2 ladies wearing hijab to get behind the candidate on camera.
Muslims sure get a bad rap in this country. They really need a good PR firm. The fearmongers have really perverted Americans’ thinking that this should even be an issue.
What’s with Sweden’s new spying on their citizens law? All I know is they just passed it and lots of folks took to the streets. Is all of this crap simply “if it can be done, it will be done”?
aaarrrrgh!
I have a perpetual look now that eerily resembles Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”
Prine is always cool! ;-)
Good advice. And it’s all in the delivery.
PICS!
They aim to please.
Even if a majority manages to pull this nut out the fire tomorrow or whenever, I wouldn’t want to be any of the folks doing the caving in a few years. It would take that long for the disaster of this move to become clear even to the blind I think, but Oh! when it does …
Uh-huh.
supposedly this is from the Obama campaign http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..251/538769 :
I resemble that remark.
I’ll be the one wearing black. It’s Manhattan. I’ll stand out.
Why, thank you, wigwam.
so sorry to hear that– i kind of figured i was not alone.
(it’ll go best with a black tanksuit, i think)
You and Suz are right! I try not to wear him out, tho. But sometimes I just can’t help myself.
Ms. Abdelfadeel and Ms. Aref did not owe it to Obama or to his campaign or to the country to clear out and be inconspicuous. They should not be expected to think that allowance must be made for bigots who can make things hard for Obama.
Do you believe that avoiding recordable Obama appearances with and association with persons known to be Muslim would make Islam-related attacks on Barack and Michelle Obama less frequent or less vile? Should the fact that such attacks can be made cause the Obama team and Obama supporters to distance themselves from persons whose images in photographs or video clips can be used to rile up bigots and sham patriots?
Hey. You are one of my most respected buddies around here.
hard refresh and wigwam’s link is fixed
I want nothing from these candidate, but I want no candidate to feel confident of my support. It’s the only leverage I have. Sigh.
There is a round on me, when y’all get down here.
Hi Suzanne,
Thanks. I was careful to make sure that the right end of that link didn’t run into the colon, but neglected the left end.
Wigwam
We can’t go back, goddammit. Just enjoy what the youngsters are doing.
Coming in late … I had to chime in when I saw the discussion of personal summers.
Have y’all heard of “Womenopause,” an herbal tincture? I highly recommend it — it has been nothing short of miraculous for me. You can get it from White Dover herbals, at womenopause.net (I have no stake in this company, I just wanted to share this info in case it can help others — I was an extreme case and tried just about everything but HRT, to no avail. This stuff gave me my life back after ~3 wks of taking it…)
not a problem :)
Happy Hoyer Day.:(, FHD.
I hate when that happens!
Well, what my youngster is doing is going to school in six hours, so I think I should take a dive.
Sorry about the delay, and thanks for coming by.
g’nite julia – see ya tomorrow night
Julia, we luv ya! Sweet dreams.
Awww, thanks..and I am your awestruck admirer, and have been for a long time. So there.
WWhhhooooaaa.?
I’m now watching Boner’s smug mug on the Newshour… Fortunately, I have no sharp objects nearby… Aaargh…!
keep sponges in a bowl by the remote control ct
I can hardly wait!
Oh, you betcha! I’m determined to get there this summer.
Aloha, Julia! Excellent post!
Thank you Julia!
If it is to be, it is up to me
(((chumba)))
Don’t toy with my affections, wigwam!
Maybe it’s not that Obama didn’t get the memo…maybe he’s decided to ignore the memo, the one that says “you’re not supposed to say things like that where the proles might hear you…”
hey kirk
sleep well, Julia
Heh, good idea…! ;-)
You comin’ too? Can you send me cel phone by FB?
rolled up socks work well too
I have long found it wise to buy the first round, because the party never gets smaller.
hey suz – blazing hot here…imagine the cottage was also…..
104 in town kirk.. 97 in the forking shade at the forking creek
Likin’ it, kirk!
Should they be full of water?? That way they splat better on the tube… much more satisfying!!

True… Do you have the late-late honors tonite?
Busted!
yeap, ya’ll are stuck with me tonight ct
FDL sells advertising.
About like that in Austin today. July should be even “better”.
I was just thinking that.
In so many ways.
Night all- see you in the morning light.
Nighters, angie.
Talk on Dkos is cheap. I want to hear him say that stuff to the entire MSM campaign crew. That would be putting his mouth where his money is.
Until then, I want no candidate to take my support for granted. (But everyone here can easily guess how I will and have voted in both deed and dollars.) Nevertheless, my official position is that I’m yet to be convinced.
Yes..enlightened self-interest, masquerading as grace…:) Stolen from Heinlein, btw.
g’nite angie
Thanks Kirk. On dial-up tonight – will catch it tomorrow.
unclaimed zed upstairs
Highly recommended for visitors, Spring fed, constant tempurature.
We’re going to get along just fine!
WDD, I have considered you my friend ever since you explained to me what a “chicken tractor” is….
I’ll try again tomorrow…i have absolutely no patience when technology….
Ouch.
Thanks CT….
From your Times article. WTF???? “The WH got a better deal than even THEY had hoped to get…” I read this and feel nauseous…
So Friday House vote and Senate next week… and I will continue to call in protest… 800-828-0498 toll free switchboard for House & Senate though signed, sealed and delivered I guess.
Money makes the world go round. Corporate/Congressional collusion. Evil willfulness… welcome to the United States of Zimbabwe!!! Bush admnistration doesn’t even need “thugs” to intimidate … what a cake walk.
And, fretting over a negative photo op … understandable… but …. HOW ABOUT OBAMA ON FISA??? WHY IS HE MIA????????
Keep the pressure on Obama. He’s the only one who might be able to rally sufficiently many Democrats.
Per Wexler: http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..539/538481
As we know from Glenzilla this morning, Obama is now supporting BushDogs: http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
This is the time when we need to hold his feet to the fire.
Was just reading this. Thank you. I will call and call and call the campaign office, too, besides the Dems in the House. Obama supported Lieberman over Lamont. Now Rep. Barrow who will be running against African American Regina Thomas. Barrow who is a telecom lover. Beltway power factions is right.
One of the major things wrong with our society is the failure to understand the importance of free speech, and or expression, without out our society simply does not work.
Those who oppose or criticize same are the real enemy.
And we need to recognize them and treat them as such.
From Greenwald’s column today:
This gives me pause for concern.
That half-garbled thing from DKos is from the Speaker of the Illinois GA. What it actually says and was clarified by the poster on DKos is that Obama plans to make a statement in the morning. He is walking a tightrope in this one since he isn’t ‘technically’ the nominee yet – and is actually ‘just’ a US Senator – and one with zero seniority at that. Presumptive is just that. Plus, as most of you should be aware by now – Obama thinks before he speaks. This is a constitutional issue, he is a constitutional lawyer, he will make his point and do it very clearly I believe.
So…just give him some time. I think we did a good job inundating the campaign and his Senate office with calls and emails and he knows he has to do this. And he will.
I hope our leadership can really speak up on this. It seems that FISA is an issue that only diehard activists are horrified by. It gets shrugged off by many as …yeah.. I see your point… but they don’t seem to get appalled by it or willing to get active. Is it, “Well, I have done anything wrong.. so what does surveillance have to do with me?” oy vey.
WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE WHEN THE DEMS MADE THE MAJORITY:
