President Arbusto loves McSame’s "give the oil companies exactly what they want" proposal so much, he’s giving it the kiss of death his stamp of approval:
President Bush asked Congress Wednesday to permit drilling for oil in deep water off America’s coasts to combat rising oil and gas prices.
"There is no excuse for delay," the president said in a Rose Garden statement.
Tough talk for a man who’s pissed away 7 years. And wasn’t the invasion of Iraq supposed to lower gas prices? I thought we were going to kick their ass and take their gas.
Anyway, Big Oil is absolutely thrilled with the Bush/McSame proposal. When you see headlines like "oil execs respond favorably," that sort of tells you everything you need to know. But here’s where I’m confused.
- Bush has a 24% approval rating.
- Cheney has an 18% approval rating.
- And 90% (90%!) of Americans think Big Oil is culpable for high gas prices.
So people hate Bush, hate Cheney and really, really hate Big Oil — yet McSame is lining up with them. Again.
I’m starting to think an Obama mole is running the McSame campaign.

Everyone knows Trump is an America-hating librul.
Arbooosto does not listen to anything now that doesn’t come from his cabeza. He hears funny things and repeats. He has the internal wired, and wireless speaker connections to his conk. He doesn’t realize which are coming from inside and which are coming from outside. They clearly wired up McSame, but they have to get a better researcher to fill him in on what his position is. McSame is worse off. He has the keys jingling, the internal voices, and the guy telling him shit he doesn’t understand in the earpiece.
JohnnyMac can’t seem to help himself. As a child JohnnyMac probably always won the game”simon says”.
Just in time to keep people from facing the reality that we need better ways to fuel transportation, better ways to deal with our basic transportation infrastructure. It doesn’t matter to McBush/McCheney/McBigOil whether or not people would pay less for oil-based fuel, just that they be kept from creating viable replacements for the existing infrastructure.
OT: House Judiciary Committee – Interrogation hearing C-SPAN 3 at 2:00 ET.
Not only that, but wouldn’t that boost Obama’s chances in Florida?
Yes.
This has been another…
BT, the behavior of Bushco and McBush is a little puzzling for sure.
1. The are stupid.
2. They plan to steal the election by voting machine.
3. Bushco is setting up McCain to fail.
4. Bushco has “other” plans for the country.
5. They are counting on something “bad” to come out on Obama.
Hmmm, #3 is indeed intriguing, but I think that gives them too much credit. I just think they have one playbook called “Lowertaxesterradrilling” and it’s all they know.
I’m starting to think an Obama mole is running the McSame campaign.
Hmmmm, Lieberman? Wha–, hey, it could happen….
*ducking*
These are the actions of someone who is extremely confident (or even assured) of their position. That narrows it down to 1, 2, or 4.
I’m still waiting to hear Floridian’s reaction to Gov Crist calling for the ban to be lifted. We fought long and hard to keep these assholes from drilling off our coast and here the governor falls right into lockstep with Bu’ush and McShitForBrains. Nothing in the local rags this morning. It’s being talked about on community radio, though.
Crist is on board with Bush/Cheney/McSame.
If they tangle us up in an attack on Iran…create a severe oil crisis and then claim another national emergency, they could presumably “try” to hang onto power….I think that is where rubber will hit the road and they will be arrested by We the People… I do seriously think they might try this…which would go back to #1…stupid.
I’d love to see the Floridians get together and impeach Crist over this.
So — does McCaint get credit for changing the Preznit’s position, after his courageous speech to the Houston oilmen? Talk about taking a tough message to a hostile audience! Or does our media mock McCaint for losing the little bit of daylight he created between himself and the White House in eight short hours?
McCaint: Independent of the Bush White House, until they change their position to match mine.
And what happened to the McCaint campaign’s claim that they coordinate with the White House every single day? Yesterday sure didn’t look very coordinated to me….
Hey BT!
Never never tease a delusional, grumpy, trash-talkin’ old guy prone to grudging his way thru life, at least till he puts the g*n down.
-uh- there’s been so much
fall-outfall-offbailing outsuccess in hiring & keeping McSame staff. Whut’s a guy ta do?! He can’t fire his last remaining one unless…Cindy better start baking, stat. Or she could sell her family recipes. That’d attract some much needed attention.
My goodness. You’re just a little bundle of sunshine today, aren’t ya.
Brightens up the whole room. Thanks.
try duckling, dahlink.
CNN:
But here is a transcript of DCCC Chairman and Congressman Chris Van Hollen’s appearance which he smacks down republican talking points drilling in ANWAR and gasoline prices.
Here is a taste:
He wants to be VP bad, huh?
must a got NPR on by mistake. Try switching to AM.
The wingnut Rethugs in this state aren’t real happy with Crist anyhow because he’s not far enough right for them. This announcement may be part of his plan to get back into the good graces of the morons. Bad decision on his part, I think. A lot of businesses are still linked to the tourist industry and an oil spill would be all it takes to kill the tourist trade. I would imagine there aren’t a lot of happy Rethug campers today but I’m still waiting to see some sort of reaction in the corporate media.
upon the order of the daimyo, Charlie Crist grasps the ceremonial tanto and . . .
although I love how he squeezed in the “states rights!” dogwhistle
whatta friggin’ milquetoast -
“Crist, though, acknowledged even if Florida decides against drilling the state’s beaches could be damaged by pollution from neighboring states if they do allow it. He said he hoped improved technology would reduce the chances of that happening.”
link
If ya think about it, it’s almost like they planned this all along.
Push the country to the brink of anarchy by raising the price of oil to outrageous highs and then pull out this wonderful panacea of ‘Hey, looky here, we has oil right here!’.
Naw, couldn’t be, Bush ain’t that frikkin’ smart.
Big oil on the other hand…….
Only way to reduce any chances of pollution from drilling is not to drill. what a concept
Floridians are going to love it when their beaches end up looking like this:
http://i266.photobucket.com/al…../beach.jpg
At least Arnold is not having any of that
is that from the Santa Barbara disaster?
Are you pickin’ on me again? *g* Isn’t my comment in line with the post?
is our pugnicans impl*ding?
Go for it!
Thanks Blue Texan
digg
I do believe you’re right. Chain-gang Charlie has always been ambitious so I see that as a very real possibility. If he’s chosen it could very well do great harm to the Rethug Party here in FL. And I’m fine with that.
It’s beeeoooootiful! Ah’s jus’ jealous. Kudos.
My mission is to try to make sure they do! ;>
Back to work.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
If I weren’t already in luv and firmly hitched…. ;->
Bless you! For you know what you do!
Libruls rock!
If you haven’t taken the time to digg Christies post downstairs please do. Support the Lake!!
omg, they remind me of a carnival game; the line of ducks, heh.
Is there going to be a live-blogging thread on the interrogation hearing with Feith and Wilkerson on CSPAN-3 starting now?
That recipe business again…how do you get any stupider? I think BT’s right. There’s a mole in Cindy’s group too.
Molly Ivins, may she rest in peace, quotes in one of her books (I can’t remember which) a local Midland Texas politician who said that Bush is just like those Midland, Texas oil men and those are the kind of people you don’t want running your country.
Perhaps some enterprising soul can track down the exact quote and context, but I think that Bush and his friends are doing exactly what they want to do; they might be ignorant, but they are certainly not stupid.
Can you actually watch Feith live??? I’m impressed. I’ve gotta have him thoroughly stewed & pressed under glass first.
Actually…that is sort of what he looks like!
*giggle*
no Feith!
Feith withdrew from the hearing this morning. Only Wilkerson. This should be good.
Many Florida Republicans are Condo Commandos. They are highly conflicted. The resale value of their oceanfront condos have plummeted by at least 30 percent. Their property taxes are still too high. Schools are closing – they like it. They love the idea of burning fossil fuel cheaply, so they are pissed about gas prices. They are believers in Fox News refinery rhetoric and “domestic exploration”. But, they are bigtime hypocrites – NIMBYS.
The last thing they want to see after getting beat up on their property values are oil platforms from their balconies or oil washing up on their beaches (they think they own the beaches, but that’s another story).
I think this is the point where I would ask Blitzer if he owns any oil stocks.
. . .did someone say Wilkerson ???
link
I just so love the strategy of using this crisis as an excuse to grab more stuff for energy companies! Wowee!
Energy companies will take care us! Big smoochie woochie for Big Oil! I love you this much. No, this much!
What? don’t already have enough leases and permits to drill? Oh how silly of us, we didn’t give you enough already? Here’s my milkshake too!
Love ya!
Feithless heathen!
Gee, I thought he was describing Dubya!
old news then. it’s been done.
Let’s see now..and HOW BIG is the tourism industry to Florida? Hmmm?
Big Oil: waaaah, I don’t like these old toys, I want new ones. where’s my allowance?
wouldn’t surprise me but i loved van hollen’s response. Drill where you already have leases.
Honestly – it might be more open and credible if we just rotate the presidency among whoever are the CEOs of the major oil companies and let it go at that.
Issa. Tapes were destroyed. Wants to know if Conyers is holding hearings on that…Issa wants to see the torture.
Does Issa and Friends realize that Conyers is making fun of them ?
his sheer assiness amazes me
I knew a repub who told me that Blitzer was such a horrible liberal that she couldn’t stand listening to him.
What a joke.
Another repub who listens to Neil Boortz on her car radio told me today that she will really miss Russert b/c he really tells it like it is, tells the truth, etc.
What a joke.
Rivkin is on the panel…(rolling my eyes…) Why do they listen to him?
I doubt it. He’s not one of your swift individuals.
anyone have a link to the hearings? I’m stuck at the puter sorting receipts
Did you see that he made KO’s famous list ?
Feith *refused* to appear beside one of the other witnesses (cough *wilkerson*, cough).
Neat trick by “the stupidest fucking guy on the face of the earth”.
Nadler “disappointed” – will, just for Feith, set up a time where Feith will feel comfortable testifying.
Bullshit!!
Here you go, wobbly.
Here ya go

feith skiped out.
Yup! He works hard for these honors. And deserves them.

Donna Edwards upstairs.
Come and say congratulations for her election to Congress yesterday!
obrigada for the link everyone
Words, definition of, conduct, definition of..this is going to go around and around, and around.
Levin tortuous about the legal definition of “torture”. Bullshit. He also brought his own personal crying baby – Asshat.
Rivkin – has already, many times, earned the title of Asshat. Please ignore – but try to stay awake…
Wilkerson – bring it, baby!!!
Daniel Levin: If the Subcommittee has been informed that there was a total of 3 minutes of waterboarding, it is incorrect information.
Yikes!!!
Oh, I thought Issa was sitting behind him. *g*
Anyone else been watching the “Ice Road” series on History channel? Toughguys who must need that paycheck bad, drive bigrigs over frozen lakes to keep the drillin’ supplied and hummin’ along, don-cha-know.
In the past, they had solid frozen ice all winter up that-a way.
Well, along came this
librul-inspiredglobal warmin’nonsensecatastrophe.Anybody ever tried gittin, even a tank or hummer over tundra?, much less mushy ice?
Hmmm. We may have seen the last of those machotruckdriver series.
HOW, I ask you HOW do these oil
baronsgoons plan to drill up there? The permafrost ISN’T any more, or purt near. They’ll destroy valuable tundra, kill a few truckers and a whole-lotta wildlife, & lose some expensive equipment, and then walk away to park their proceeds in some offshore tax-free haven. I hear-tell it’s called highway robbery in some parts, or it used to be.
Levin appears to be taking responsibility for his legal writings …
why does this moral/ethical clarity only seem to hit afterwards? why not beforehand?
Here’s a thought from Wilkerson…Use your common sense, use your brain, use your conscience.
Um … they didn’t think they would get caught …
failed the cost/benefit analysis
ahhhh so ethical and/or moral convenience
Daniel Levin: If the Subcommittee has been informed that there was a total of 3 minutes of waterboarding, it is incorrect information.
Yikes!!!
Looks like Levin is ready to fall on his sword, *and* take somebody or somebodies, under the bus with him.
I took it to mean that the soldiers/officers who did the dirty work should not be punished …
this is stomach turning
I’ll try to watch a little closer – phonus interruptus is a bit severe today. I got the impression that he was not happy about the circumstances of his leaving/being forced out, and may be holding some upward-pointing grudges.
to put it mildly
It will be more so if BushCo go unpunished.
Did you catch Mora’s statement yesterday that the two biggest reasons why U.S. troops are being targeted in Iraq are Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo … Link
… that too …
I hadn’t seen it (just went over and had a look). It’s what we DFH have been saying all along.
Claire McCaskill called Mora a hero yesterday !
I’ve lost the Cspan feed…
It’s easy asswipe….don’t torture
I did too. Refreshed and all is well
Use the standalone player … picture is larger and clearer …
Must go do errands. I feel better knowing you guys are on top of this stuff.
It’s a large part of what’s driving me crazy.
I want so badly for some from the administration to endure a sort of stress position, ahem. They. Make. Me. Sick.
Good on for Mora stepping fwd.
Thanks pups. You’re the best. Bye for now.
me too – hard-refresh brought it back…
Rivkin wants to ban waterboarding, but thinks all other methods, should be “discussed”. Also throws out the standard Republican excuse – “soldiers in other wars have behaved badly too!…”
Wilkerson: “Powell was of the opinion that the President was fully complicit with everything that happened.”
The Secretary was of a mind that the Presient was fully complicit with what happened…..
And there’s no doubt that they did misbehave in other wars.
And were mostly prosecuted and imprisoned for doing so.
God, I wish Marcy was liveblogging this. That was incredible.
Isn’t it amazing how “Support the troops” Republicans are so quick to throw them under the bus whenever it is convenient?
Wow, the general names Bybee, Yoo, Addington, Feith, Haynes and Gonzo are primarily responsible.
Wilkerson: Addington very involved in developing the policy.
A collusion of 6 people:
gonzo
Addington
Haynes
Yoo
Bybee
and 1 other
Tactics pushed from the top down.
Conyers…that leaves us in a difficult situation, but as an investigating committee we may have to invite some of these persons in..
Issa’s up … mute button activated …
Issa
*spit*
Issa likes torture! And makes up a hypothetical to go with it. Clever!
Waterboarding is drowning with a doctor present.
And there’s no doubt that they did misbehave in other wars.
And were mostly prosecuted and imprisoned for doing so.
As Wilkerson’s former boss, above most anybody else, should very well know…
Iss-hole!!
Oh, gig the CIA, Larry.
Rivkin:
Issa: When I was in the service, if someone got in my way and It would save lives to take them out, I would have.
Issa: Waterboarding – drowning with a Dr. present.
Rivkin: In almost all conceivable circumstances would be torture.
Issa: This admin. chose to condone this near-drowning technique under 3 circumstances…when we were commissioned as Army officers, we were told we don’t do that.
I don’t condone torture. I think waterboarding is wrong.
Issa says he thinks waterboarding is wrong. These republicans are scared shitless.
Surprise, surprise, Issa wants to lay this at Karpinski’s doorstep …
NeoCons, get a new line besides blaming the troops and Janis, this one is DOA !
Let’s throw Karpinski alone under the bus one more time.
I’m getting the impression that the Republics want to concentrate on waterboarding, to the extent possible, so that they can appear to be anti-torture.
Got the feeling that no Republic is going to bring up any other methods, because presentation of the whole range of illegal practices would be just too bad for the R party.
He’s saying it wrong, that the troops did it against orders to the contrary and they should be forgiven, given the circumstances … what a F*ckwad !
Davis is making a great point. People in this admin who were right, were released. People who got it wrong were kept on.
Yes, many Dems complied with much of this, but Repubs made it very clear that they would own all the glory of this war and now their party will own the stench of this shame for generations to come.
Rather like 50’s Commie witchhunts.
Damn, this guy (Davis) is amazing !
King is a republican?
Yes to answer my own question…didn’t agree with SCOTUS decision last week.
Y’all might want to check out bmaz’s comment on Rivkin … Link
Wilkerson just threw Addington firmly under the bus.
WooHoo … Keith Ellison up !
I’m liking Bobby Scott. Would the International community be confused about what constitutes torture?
He’s smacking down all the Repug talking points …
New Jane a couple of flights upstairs
oh my
About the hearing?
He’s smacking down all the Repug talking points …
and smiling wryly while doing so….
bada BINGO
Cheney’s got to be nervous…
Wilkerson said, while questioned by Mel Watt, that Rummy and the VP’s office are responsible for what ultimately culminated in Abu Gharib. He said that Addington would not have acted, he didn’t think, without Cheney being involved, and that Addington, Yoo, Bybee, etc., gave Rummy what he needed to go ahead and proceed with the program he wanted to proceed with as affected the military’s behavior toward detainees.
Did you catch Wilkerson’s last remark ?
addington does NOTHING without Cheyknee
… to what Sheila Jackson Lee asked …
I suspect Addington will be “invited” into the hot seat really soon…
Yup. Interesting that they had various names for Addington!! I want to know what they were. Assington?
Ass in Town?
Cheney’s boy toy.

I think the Republicans are going to use all that lobbying money to make the smear campaign of all smear campaigns, alas. We’ll just have to see if the peropel are gullible enough to believe the lies, again, this time.
