You can tell that after the c*nt story, the profile of McCain's failed first marriage in a major British newspaper and his atavistic positions on birth control and abortion, McCain might be getting a bit worried about seeming insenstive to women. So under the"Straight Talk Express" goes Clayton Williams:
ABC's Rick Klein reports: Sen. John McCain on Friday abruptly cancelled a Monday fundraiser that had been scheduled at the home of a Texas oilman, after ABC News contacted the campaign inquiring about a verbal blunder the Texan made during an unsuccessful 1990 campaign for governor.
Clayton Williams stirred controversy during his 1990 campaign for governor of Texas with a botched attempt at humor in which he compared rape to weather. Within earshot of a reporter, Williams said: “As long as it's inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”
Not to say it wasn't the right thing to do. But then again, so would be firing Rick Davis. And he hasn't done that yet. This move is all about the women's vote. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Oh, and Clayton Williams, he has already raised 300K for McCain. So Mr. Reformer, what are we gonna do with that campaign loot now?

What IS it with those people? Don’t they have any women in their lives that they care about? Cripes…
Oh, manners after the tantrum. Hi, David, and thanks for posting this. Just one more reason to loathe McSame and everything he stands for.
Nope. It is Numero Uno all the time. No exceptions. Not even for Jesus.
Williams said: “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”
hmmm. either wrong or *two* people said the same thing.
Bobby Knight said those same words, and a firestorm ensued…
That’s the cat they called ‘Hootie,” IIRC? Right? Hootie Williams? Ran against Ann Richards?
Good Morning David and Firedogs,
per your link, the DNC is calling on Maverilicious to return the cash -
better yet, I’m sure there’s a local rape crisis center in need of the fundage - oh wait!
It may not have been original, but Clayton Williams definitely was attributed with saying it while campaigning against Ann Richards in 1990. He also made some admission about going to prostitutes during his youth. In that connection, I heard one of the TV talking heads (I forgot which one) say in a panel discussion, that Clayton Williams had rescued the reputation of hundreds of sheep in Texas.
oh yeah it was Gov Richards,
per David’s link above, she used it in a campaign ad

OT –
Does this mean he’ll go to Confession?
http://www.independent.co.uk/n.....46953.html
ok - thanks.
As an IU fan, I remember quite well when Knight said those very same words - it went national….
Whoa. Why do I feel like I read this post yesterday? Youse guys messin’ wit me?
Thanks for front-paging this, David.
Funny”Hussein”Diva
I think Bobby Knight was quoting Claytie.
Interesting O/T-
Sorry, OT: Senate Judiciary committee ended by rethugs invoking 2 hour limit:

OT - CSPAN has picked up the live feed from NASA tv to cover the shuttle landing.
…speaking of weather, aaah, Fresh Air! It’s amazing what a little bit of clear air turbulence will do! F**k McCain in 2008!
Yeah it’s not really numero uno, there is no number 2,3,etc in the picture at all.
Some repubs seem to be able think about what something means, appears, feels like to another, but not many.
As far as I know there is no time in our educational system given to learning this skill or habit.
Girls are better at it than boys to start with maybe that’s why it’s not taught, we don’t want the boys to feel less able.
A Loss Leader We Can Bereave In.
“we don’t want the boys to feel less able.” and there you have the reason that repugs hate girls.
taking off hazmat suit . . .
over at Maverick08, under “Upcoming Events”
they dryly list them as “Finance Event”’s, not ‘Supporter’s Reception’, ‘Friends of McCain Banquet’, nope, just “finance events”
that might be straight talk but is evidence of the tin ear nature of the campaign
p.s. - see one coming up in MO with both Blunts listed as “Honorary Co-Chairs”
suspect Clayton Williams is about to get some company under that bus :D
Jean Carnahan to the White Courtesy telephone please, Jean Carnahan . . .
Oh, this one has a long and storied legacy. Neither Knight nor Williams were the first to use it, and they certainly won’t be the last.
The son of Ronald Reagan, Michael Reagan has made terrorist threats on his radio show. This wingnut is publicly encouraging murder of anti-war activists. With Insane McCain, Crazy Ann Coulter and even Peggy Noonan is flipping out, we need to get out the DSM IV.
If only we had some genuine journalists on GE Teevee to expose this insanity. But the comments of Reagan would be banned almost anywhere. The “Patriot Act” prohibits terrorist threats, except it is OK if you are a neo-con.
per my #20 above . . .
Ms Carnahan rarely disappoints - bwaahaaahaaa!
Yeah and there’s also this:
Y’see, he swore an Oath to
preserve, protect, and defend the ConstitutionKeep Us Safe. Any impediment to that priority is irrelevant. That is absolutely insane. Reagan has some serious emotional issues.
IOKIYW
Matt is busy right now keeping the Belgians from buying Buttwiper Beer.
Gov Blunt has been under investigation in MO for deleting emails from state govt servers, and also firing a state lawyer who told him it was illegal to do so. His sudden announcement earlier this year that he was not running for reelection took everyone by surprise, except the local reporters who have been digging into this.
Perhaps the “deleting emails” is something he learned from his dad and his dad’s friends in DC . . .
and that little puke needs every distraction he can get his little cloven hooves on :D
BTW, this is priceless. SaveAB.com.
LOL!
I thought it was a little scary that Bush said he disagreed with the ruling, but would go along with it. The implication seems to be that he thinks he has a choice.
I love how Laura Ingraham says he should just “ignore” the ruling? How, asshat? Order the courts to not hear cases?
Thank you David for bringing this to light….
McBush belongs to the “Good old Boys” club with the yuck, yuck jokes about women….. how we deserve the glass ceiling…… how we deserve to be victimized….. give us no options either in control of our own bodies, education and professions….
HELLO McBush….. we ARE the majority of voters……
missed the zed
oh yeah and Ingraham should stick a sock in it. Preferably the one bush used to stuff his codpiece.
well, I suppose if the MSM can spend hours flailing around in grief calling Russert this towering figure of journalism, then I suppose Anheiser Busch beer is one of the cornerstones of the US as well.
Maybe the Belgians can improve the swill that is Buttwiper. Ugh.
Uh oh, he can ignore it on the authority of Laura Ingraham. It saves him from having to name some overly ambitious recent lawschool grad as an Asst. Attorney General.
embarrassed young wait staff at restaurant when I asked what beers they had…. she started out with the bud, bud light line and I interrupted her saying…. don’t start with the horse p*ss beers ….. just give me the good ones…
After living in Portland Oregon where they boasted 63 different micro brewers….. ya don’t order horse p*ss beer
For whatever it’s worth, this site http://www.barrypopik.com/inde.....s_weather/ has citations for that relax-and-enjoy-it line as far back as the early 50s, but it’s probably much older than that. People often attribute it to Confucius and consider it not a joke but rather folk wisdom.
I once had to do a software install at a radiation lab in the St. Louis area, back around 1991. I recall not being able to even buy an import beer at bars and restaurants.
. . .looks like the good people of St Louis and the region in general are about to get a graphic lesson in the global economy -
the Busch family is held in fairly high regard and folks will see their bottom line in it’s nakedness
{{{SHUDDER}}}}}
Would let the restaurant know that I will not be ordering beer due to their lack of choice….
Foreigners have now got all our cheap-assed dollars. They gotta do something with them.
Yeah, LOL, I’m serious. It was Anheiser-Busch products only. Company town.
I thought the above post looked familiar. It’s probably just an editing thing. If Solomon were around we could let him wave a sword over the post.
This was a tech screwup. This was always a Cliff Schecter post, but I created what was supposed to be a cross-post and it put my mug on it. Apologies to all, especially Cliff.
I never gave the p-word a serious thought. I feel crossed up by tech frequently, and sometimes I actually am.
There was a weatherman in NY during the sixties, Tex Antoine, who told this joke on the air, and was fired immediately. His segment came just after the anchorman had reported on a violent rape. They cut to Tex, who told that joke. Bad move. I was just a kid, so I can’t remember what network he was on, but he had been a fixture on NYC TV/News/Weather for many years. He was never seen or heard from again.
The same should happen to this jerk.
Unfortunately of 3000 stocks Clayton Williams Energy (CWEI) is up the most at 245% this year to date .
So plenty of money for his buddies.
Not too surprising that McSame would cancel appearing with Clayton Williams. What’s shocking is that he would even have considered appearing with him in the first place! Molly Ivins vividly documented Claytie’s campaign against Ann Richards, all of his rude and sexist remarks, including his fond reminiscences of going to Texas to “get serviced.” (Ivins correctly commented that it’s the cow that gets serviced, not the bull. Never mind.) Williams very publicly and rudely refused to shake Richards’ hand at an event at which they appeared together. Bubbas throughout Texas didn’t like that, fortunately.
