christy at 72–mom and dad went with the super saver one that costs more, they are happy with it, i don’t know the brand…has a built-in humidifier for the winter-really cuts down on winter dry air problems..maybe carrier? it did pay off at their house, mom cranks it, dad freezes in the family room…the upstairs is warmer…..so, and this is a true story, my dad puts his kerosene heater on low to compensate for mom crankin’ it when he gets too cold, i’m serious….the house is built into a hill, so, the family room is much colder by many degrees, we discussed closing the vents, but the air flow down there would be affected……mom gets her way….so, dad lights the heater….

mom and i were in the living room one day and i heard dad take the filler can out of the heater and i asked mom, what’s dad doin’? she said, he lights the heater when he gets cold, i said should i turn it down? she said no, he just lights his heater….funny as hell…..both are happy…go figure. it was explained to me that the thermostat is upstairs, so, dad’s heater doesn’t affect anything. ok.

Thanks, Martha. I’ve already asked the fellow who repaired our unit this morning to price the most energy efficient units for me and let me know what they have and what their energy efficiency ratings are. If we are going to spend the money, I’d rather spend it on something that will repay my investment in savings down the road — and not be wasteful.
