Dearie: In response to your post #153, keep some KLEENEX nearby, I suggest BILL MOYER’s JOURNAL’s website, at pbs.org he has some POETRY by Veterans, which are heartrending & powerful voices, about War. They were compiled into a BOOK by a woman, I forget the rest of details. I could only make it through TWO of the Poems, every damn ”Recliner” armchair chickenhawk general, who LUSTED for invading IRAQ OR VIETNAM, should be strung up, tarred & feathered! That sure includes DUBYA, becuz during VIETNAM, the little yellow coward was a CHICKENHAWK, who was all ”GUNG HO” about the War while he was safely in COLLEGE, & while his Daddy had him ”parked” safely in the TEXAS ”Champagne” Air National Guard, where he played at being a Jet Fighter Pilot & MAY have snorted Cocaine (he doesn’t remember if he did or not!) & drank himself s**tfaced partying.

God, I’ll be soooo glad when these Nutcases are out of the WHITE HOUSE; but Barack OBAMA will have to figure out what the HELL to do about the HUGE Private Mercenary ARMY the BUSH Regime has spawned: BLACKWATER, etc.
HALLIBURTON has a CONTRACT on every single U.S. foreign & domestic Military Base, I read somewhere, can you believe it? How the hell does OBAMA deal with THAT fact?

newt or anyone- is there a youtube of this Hardball? Or Matthews on Olbermann?

I’ve been looking w/o success- part of the transcript- from

http://mediamatters.org/items/200604270005
Mission Accomplished: A look back at the media’s fawning coverage of Bush’s premature declaration of victory in Iraq

~~MATTHEWS: What’s the importance of the president’s amazing display of leadership tonight?

[…]

MATTHEWS: What do you make of the actual visual that people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight? And that’s the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously. What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a supersonic plane and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin like an actual jet pilot?~~

Also:

~~Later that day, on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Matthews said:

MATTHEWS: We’re proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who’s physical, who’s not a complicated guy like [former President Bill] Clinton or even like [former Democratic presidential candidates Michael] Dukakis or [Walter] Mondale, all those guys, [George] McGovern. They want a guy who’s president. Women like a guy who’s president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. ~~

We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.

Funny that Blankleyes didn’t note that it may not be only thinking that “other countries” may not find this behavior acceptable in the near future. It’s much more likely to be our own citizenry as resources dry up and become unavailable to the rest of us. There would very likely be fuel rationing both for homes and vehicles if things prevent working people from being able to provide essential services, food shipments, and just getting to work. Ol’ Blankeyes wouldn’t be allowed to cruise his Hummer accross the dunes of his Cape Cod hideaway so much anymore. He wouldn’t be allowed to squander heating fuel for his home so that the elderly and no0t so wealthy could afford to heat their homes at 68 degrees in Winter.

And conspicuous gorging on French Haut Cuisine and subsequent visits to the vomitorium would be viewed by those who are less “worthy” as resembling the excesses of the Roman Empires decadent ruling classes.

Ol’ Blankeyes must have missed the methods that Presidents and other leaders of Democracies used when dealing with scarce commodities during times of crisis and war in the past. Ration cards, coupons, and funneling of goods and products to essential sectors of the community were used by “dictators” like Churchill and Roosevelt to preserve their nations during times of scarcity.
