‘At long last, have you no sense of decency?’
Having earlier magnanimously offered to wait until they "lynched her" and almost fainting over "terrorist fist-jabs" the "delightful" people of FoxNews have finally taken a positive, life-affirming stand on Michelle Obama that its parade of McCain voting alleged former Hillary Clinton supporters (emphasis on alleged) proclaiming misogyny can be proud.
During a segment discussing conservative attacks against Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the network described the former as "Obama’s baby mama."
I checked, and sure enough, as you can see below, our e-mailer was right. In fact, that description was displayed on screen several times during the segment, which featured anchor Megyn Kelly and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, an FNC contributor.
I believe the term they are searching for is "wife".
Every four years the nation gathers, not just to vote, but find out what slander the Republicans will use against the wife of the Democratic Presidential Nominee this year:
1988: Kitty Dukakis, and the myth of the feces coated flag.
1992: Hillary Clinton and the "ball-busting communist harpy" (should be 1992 to present)
1996: See above, add dash of "murdering lesbian inside-trader".
2000: Tipper Gore, broke the heart of Oliver’s old rich-guy father Oliver, claimed you never had to say you’re sorry and later co-starred in ‘Convoy’.
2004: OMG! Teresa Kerry is rich, intelligent and has an accent, and she replaced a Republican with a Democrat. We cannot have TWO Arianna Huffington’s in this world!
2008: She’s well-educated, a lawyer, and a black woman — unleash the hounds!
It’s going to be a long five months.
Good for bloggers though.

Mornin’, Attaturk, pups
Fox News, Malkin, and company blow goats.
The right wingers have to resort to this kind of bullshit because they have NOTHING to defend George Bush with, which means, Johnny McTeleprompter also has nothing to defend his record with! Oopsie.
Does “baby’s mama” insinuating that Michelle is Obama’s girlfriend? LOL! *shaking head* Again, the right wingers have nothing and ARE FRIGHTENED BY INTELLIGENT WOMEN NO MATTER WHAT THEIR SKIN COLOR IS!
Poor things. Neocons are still afraid of everything.
‘At long last, have you no sense of decency?’
hmmm…. I recall a very astute and good-looking commenter here using that same quote wrt the “Baby Mama” ridiculosity…
Now who could that have been? lol.
Poor things. Neocons are still afraid of everything.
Do ya suppose that *Prosecutors* are on the list of things that neo-cons fear?
I researched the etymology of this phrase “baby mama”. The use of it in connection with the Obama’s is offensive, much like referring to Michelle or Barack as “nappy headed”. It perpetuates a negative stereotype of people of color. As is so often the case, the use of this phrase by Fox is a disgrace. It’s the purest racist claptrap.
And a long list it is. They thought they lived in gated communities to protect them from us. What they didn’t understand is they live there so we know where to find them.
Good Morning Attaturk and Firedogs -
and on a loosely related note -
and just this morning, the campaign has announced – and later today will officially launch -

a little giddy – How Y’all Doin ?
JoeScar *still* harping that McCain’s being a Vietnam vet and a POW somehow confers “foreign policy experience” on McSame.
No Joe, it gives him experience in being a soldier and a POW. Not to belittle those things, but “foreign policy” experience is an entirely different animal than “military experience”.
Obama’s got some savvy folks on his staff. Love it.
I think they are insinuating the “baby” was the result of a casual sexual encounter. If they were dating, it would be ex-girlfriend. If they were married it would be wife or ex-wife. If they just were “bumpin uglies” with no strings attached, she would be his baby-mamma.
…Or maybe I’m just talking out of my ass… …again.
Yep! They’re high on the list. ;-) Also up top there is “women, women, girls, women, truth, women, truth”. See? ;-)
Okay, going to work. Have a great day everyone!
McShitForBrains will continue to fight the war in Viet Nam until the sun falls from the sky.
I think you’re right. I had a feeling that term had a negative feel to it.
I’m going to start calling Johnny McTeleprompter “whitey” just so I can hear the explanations from the right wing trolls why they find that word so offensive. Oh gawd! Should be a lot of fun!
Have a great day. ;-)
McShitForBrains
Bah hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
That’s Whitey McShitForBrains to you. *g*
I suspect we may see this Fox reference to Michelle Obama on KO tonight. I would think Jon Stewart could do something with it also.
Progressives need a television network that can begin exposing the criminal deeds of this regime and their enablers in the Republican Party and the corporate media. These scoundrels need to be seen in the eyes of the public as traitors to the American people and the Constitution. Only then will the public be willing to see high level Republican officials extradited to the Hague, sentenced to long prison sentences and perhaps, in some cases, the death penalty.
Great post, Attaturk. Sometimes you really have to wonder if those clowns at Faux Gnus realize that there are things like DVR’s and Intertoobz and stuff. Are they really that stupid, or has their audience shrunk to only those without the intelligence to change the channel on the remote, forcing them to drop the intelligence level of the broadcast into negative territory?
Is it a given that we have to get in the ugly game with them? I don’t know the answer, but it seems to me that there should be enough real stuff against Mc to keep us busy.
We are better than that.
OT – Waxman’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is scheduled to have a business meeting this morning. don’t know if there will be a webstream, but if there is it might be interesting – the meeting is to review and mark up the new Abramoff report.
here are three of the many hearings scheduled for today:
Progressives need a television network…
Period.
longer then we want, I posted the following downstairs;
if Iraq throws us out and bush actually begins to make believe he is drawing down, I think mccain will say;
“I am a military genious, the surge worked, if the president followed my advice from the start we would not have this mess and I will fix the problem when you elect me”
and obama will have a mighty tough time overcomeing that
What’s next for Fox News – will they call her a ‘ho’ next? First of all, this is just crude, rude racist sexist garbage. It is also meant to bring MRS. Obama down in terms of class as well as race(the whole business of being middle or upper class get married; they are NOT someone’s ‘baby mama’). Going for the smear Trifecta, Fox News – race, sex and class – clever people. For once..just for once, I’d like to see the media decide to play this whole thing out and raise the level of discourse. Wow..that would be different.
So why do you think it is that so many wives of Republican politicians turn out to be extremely heavily medicated and heavily Botoxed Stepford Wives?
Kind of chicken or the egg question, I guess — do these women get chosen by future GOP candidates (presumably because they remind them of Mom), or, having come to realize that they stuck in a marriage to evil, misogynistic closet cases, is it only then that they start making moony-eyes at the bottle of Percocet?
speaking of Jon Stewart, Cliff Schecter got some notice:
The Real McCain Makes The Daily Show
I suspect that most of the people to whom this kind of trash appeals would are not likely to vote and would never vote for Obama under any circumstances. For anyone who carries their nuckles at least six inches above the ground, I would think it would be repulsive.
I saw that. I thought, “Hey, I know that guy.”
What’s next for Fox News – will they call her a ‘ho’ next?
That’s precisely what they just did with the Baby Mama appellation, as the rest of your comment points out.
we have Democracy Now! for our daily news. Amy Goodman is the best.
Yes.
It’s right up there at the top of the list, just above auditors.
This has been another edition of simple answers . . .
and there’s our FDL friend Laura Flanders with her GritTV, which iirc is broadcast on Direct TV
elliot – do you know if there is an audio only feed or podcast yet for GritTV?
Attaturk, there’s no apostrophe on the possessive form of “it”! And a dangling preposition in the same sentence! At long last, have you no decency? Or at least, no grammar?
no I don’t know, but I’ll find out, good question. My slow “high speed” connection makes it hard to watch the videos, audio only would be a nice feature.
Those Excellent Christians on the right seem to have missed Sunday School the day they went over the Ninth Commandment…
…and the Second (You shall not make yourself an idol)…
…and the Third (You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God)…
…and the Fourth (You shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy)…
…and the Sixth (You shall not murder – Iraq, privatizing health care, etc.)…
…and of course, the Seventh (You shall not commit adultery)…
… and the Eighth (You shall not steal)…
Oh, and the Tenth (You shall not covet your neighbor’s house and wife).
And then there are those pesky Seven Deadly Sins our pious friends on the Right are SO good at heeding!
Missed school on the days they went over lust, greed, wrath and pride.
We’ll just call ‘em sort-of-good-Christians. Or pretty bad ones will do as well.
…
There’s not nearly enough progressive public affairs on the intertoobz but I have a feeling it will grow and, unlike the tube, folks can view, read, whatever at their convenience. We’re not locked into a schedule dictated by corporate advertisers trying to shill to a particular demographic. I’m really hoping that others take GRITtv as an example of the possibilities.
pushback !
in a perfect world there needs to be a commercial/youtube with all the nominee spouses mentioned above sitting around a starbucks like setting – warning Michele about this crap – the whole time mocking the various individual attacks of the past – the final shot being HRC walking in saying – Accent ?!?! you aint heard nothin !
y’all get the idea

Does anyone know if the Counter Punch website is a propaganda site or whether they publish accurate info? The reason I ask is that I just read a piece that if true is stunning.

You’re right, of course, about its; about the “dangling preposition,” get a life. That supposed “rule” is grammarian bullshit, comes from 18th-Century authorities projecting Latin paradigms on English.
imo, some good stuff and some not. probably always a good idea to look for confirming/disconfirming evidence and use your own judgement. what do you think about this article?
When I saw that last night, I just shook my head and thought “there goes Fox again”. Then I got to thinking about it more, and it seems to me that we need to do some serious push-back on this. Fox has, with this label, called Michelle and Barack unmarried, and their two lovely children illegitimate.
They need to be made afraid of doing that again. The right has been attacking people by attacking the legitimacy of their families for years. It has to be stopped. The vile attacks on Hillary and Chelsea Clinton began long before she entered the electoral games herself. The attack on John McCain eight years ago, calling his adopted daughter a “black love child”. And now this.
It’s too much.
Yes. Quibbling about dangling prepositions is something up with which I will not put.
Why Joe, how… …bourgeois…
Clever you are, young Jedi.
Yes, they are definitely something you should never end a sentence with.
OT
next up on CSPAN,
putting medical records online.
If the charges are in Waxman’s hands you can count on a “strongly worded letter” the preferred tool of Democrats trying to hold this criminal regime accountable.
I didn’t see much supporting evidence in the piece other than her word for it all. I’m not familiar with the site this was on so I wasn’t sure if this was a long running story, etc. While I believe that there is certainly war profiteering going on the allegations in the piece seem to me to be unbelievable. But after watching this administration who knows!
Morning all :)
Going OT already, but this article is interesting (peak oil) and this little nugget was new to me.. What do we know about this guy?
‘After being asked to advise Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush on energy policy during the 2000 election campaign, Matthew Simmons found that more and more oil fields had begun to decline. That was because, though new technology was helping to extract oil faster than ever before, it was also causing the fields to run dry more quickly, too. “All of a sudden there were fields that were declining by as much as 30 per cent per year,” he says. “But I didn’t call it ‘peak oil’ – I didn’t even know what that was back then.”‘
http://www.independent.co.uk/e…..45092.html
both the itunes and rss feed are for video only – at least as far as i can tell.
Hmmm, well, I guess we can wait until today’s episode and ask directly. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t have an audio only feed.
There’s something about Maureen Dowd complaining about others playing “Kill the witch”….
I saw a new ad the other night for Norwegian Cruise lines. It showed a group of obnoxious passengers dining together. A cacophony of musical instruments represent their voices, so you had screaming trumpets, trumpeting trombones, etc.
For a moment, I thought I’d stumbled onto FOX News.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Ge good to yourselves, and all other living things.

i just skimmed your link… my take is similar to yours. for example, a transcript (even a partial one) of the interview could have been provided. i’m always partial to the primary documents. but there is the claim that the reports have been given to waxman – so maybe we will hear more from that source?
also, this may be unrelated but yesterday there was this bbc report
again without the supporting docs, links, etc that i want to see. but something to keep our eyes on?
Thanks for the BBC info. I just read more about this Arrigo person and it seems most of the writing about her appears on conspiracy sites. There was also a blog comment that was supposedly from her sister where she says that this woman has mental problems. I guess until I hear Waxman talking about this stuff it’s probably safe to say that this story is more fiction than fact.
O/T Does anyone know if Congress fixed that tax break scam that the oil companies had, that gave them huge cash payments for loading up a little oil at US ports? Anyone know what I’m talking about?
thanks for attempting to reality check that report!
yesterday i wanted to find a way to confirm the bbc report of all those doj gag orders and i couldn’t find anything – so eventually i called waxman’s committee to ask if they could confirm or deny the existence of the gag orders. all i got was a run around, so i’m hanging fire on the bbc report too.
like you, i don’t put anything past this administration. but i remain agnostic about individual reports without more supporting evidence.
I suggest investing in tens of thousands of the strongest locks available and padlocking the forkin’ gates on the OUTSIDE…..the librul version of private prisons. *G*

That’s why I was confused. I was trying to figure out if this contained the revamp of that law, which would close that loophole.
here’s an article about the “London loophole”
This is what I’m talking about.
http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/…..-usec.html
I fixed it, thanks. Not enough coffee.
thanks!
i thought the london/dubai loophole was a way to avoid regulation, not a way to get a tax break? at least that was my understanding after listening to that excellent energy hearing with greenberger (senate commerce committee on 6/3).
Progressives need a network delivery system. Don’t forget who owns Comcast, DirectTV, DISH Network….
You beat me to the quote.
I don’t think that bill that got knocked down by the Repugs contained the closing of the loophole. But I think the one that does, called the Energy and Tax Extenders Act of 2008 is also going to run up against Repug roadblocks.
From that Extenders Act
Wasn’t Jon Stewart on fire last night. The show’s been outstanding this week. And Colbert, too. This is an absolutely powerhouse hour for late night must-see viewing. And more news than you’ll get from the networks who are busy checking their scripts against their advertiser lists and saying have we gotten our RNC script notes yet?
The press really seems to be pushing yesterday’s story of the Oklahoma Democratic Congressman who refuses to endorse Obama. Does anyone have a handy reference to how many Dems endorsed Bush in 2004? Seems like there were quite a few, and it would be good to have evidence that our party has always had its fringe elements.
Of course, this time around, there likely is a very big dose of racism in those who won’t endorse Obama. Sigh, it it 2008 or 1958? Sometimes it’s hard to tell.
One thing I find all these “faux news” commentators seem to have in common is they have no particular resume that they have done anything worthwhile for the country.Did Malkin do some work for the country in any capacity?
How about Hanitty?
Even Allen Combs(slight pass given here)Limbaugh?Ingraham? And we know Ollie Norths contributions.Dick-the toe sucker- Morris?

I think that most of us at FDL keep an open mind about what this administration is capable of doing yet at the same time we also try to prevent our low opinion of them from causing us to blindly believe everything printed about them.
S’pose the cables/networks will give as much attention to New Gang of 14 GOP Congressional Group refuses to back McCain as they give the OK Boren re Obama story?
well said! deserves to be repeated. and applied to our evaluation of good (and bad) reports on the dems too – our goal is to recognize our biases and try to get past them to think clearly about the evidence.
all but 1 of the 6 OK superdels have backed Obama – incl Gov Henry

and against fair pay for his female constituents

he and The Real McCain made The Daily Show
um.
You know, not linking to any particular comments, but there’s so much that’s spectacularly offensive about Michelle Malkin that I’m really not sure why anyone would want to jump to her heritage to insult her.
It’s what we want Fox not to do, right?
Just revisiting and this is my post so I’m somewhat responsible for what happens in the thread.
But the point of the post is to decry the SPREADING OF RACIAL STEREOTYPES…
Can we please refrain…as some earlier comments were not…from engaging in those same stereotypes?
Thanks.
ROFL! I love your response. Apostrophized “it” – not a grammar Nazi; dangling preposition – I’m a grammar Nazi! But you’re right, I need a life.
Attaturk: you know I was just yankin’ your chain, right? ;-) You do good work.
