McCain reluctant to talk about Vietnam
Same day from his designated flack, Joe Lieberman:
I mean the obvious fact is that more than most any American, Senator McCain knows the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform make, and the burden that their families bear. And it really is wrong to suggest otherwise… from his own service and incarceration…
And then there’s this:
On Wednesday, McCain’s campaign expanded the reach of his first major television ad of the general election campaign _ a commercial where McCain speaks directly to the camera about being shot down in Vietnam and his years of captivity.
John McCain on his particular service and being singled out for it:
"I don’t think I did anything that any other American wouldn’t do…"
But when Obama criticizes his position on vet benefits eleven days ago:
McCain responded with a sharp statement saying that he wouldn’t listen to any lectures on veterans’ affairs from Obama, "who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform."
Funny how his barbecue buddies don’t notice the inconsistency. There is, of course, nothing wrong with mentioning military service, or even trumpeting it. But do not sell us the story that he does not do so, as he uses it at the first — are relatively irrelevant opportunity — to bludgeon his opponent who happened to come of age during one of this nation’s rare (since 1945) warless periods.

Attaturk!
Maybe I scanned the Wiki too quickly, but I don’t see any mention at all of military service on Lieberman’s part. So, where does he get off?
The gag reflex keeps me from delving too deeply. It’s painful.
This is McCain’s Last Best Card his service and his son’s. I predict that since its his only good card McCain will be like Rudy was about mentioning 9/11 in every speech.
The torture is just beginning.
Funny though that McCain as a vet seems to be repeating allot of the mistakes of Vietnam.
Now wait just a minute – his middle name is Isadore?
I’m not usually taken to get my yucks at peoples names (I have a nephew named after a weather phenomenon and a Germanic God), but this is too much!
Thanks, Loo Hoo!
I’ll bite, what’s your nephew’s name, newtonusr?
If I could, I would.
But her mother browses here, and I would become suddenly unpopular all 3 of my sisters – not worth the risk :-)
Certainly not!

Webb has done a lot now. But McCain will be reading those older comments that discredit the antiwar movement to the press. Webb has to address his past comments.
Although doesn’t McCain have a son in Iraq? Maybe Webb is the best choice then because McCain will play the I’m honoring my son in Iraq’s sacrifice and every solder over there’s sacrifice.
Obama might need Webb to handle that question because McCain will laugh at any non vet telling him about the war, the troops etc.

Lieberman: McCain’s “Not Too Important” Comment Doesn’t Matter Because He Served In Vietnam
By Greg Sargent – June 11, 2008, 1:53PM
I am so claiming spooky points
The idea of synchronicity is that the conceptual relationship of minds, defined by the relationship between ideas, is intricately structured in its own logical way and gives rise to relationships which have nothing to do with causal relationships in which a cause precedes an effect. Instead, causal relationships are understood as simultaneous — that is, the cause and effect occur at the same time.
Synchronous events reveal an underlying pattern, a conceptual framework which encompasses, but is larger than, any of the systems which display the synchronicity. The suggestion of a larger framework is essential in order to satisfy the definition of synchronicity as originally developed by Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung.[citation needed]
Jung coined the word to describe what he called “temporally coincident occurrences of acausal events.” Jung variously described synchronicity as an “‘acausal connecting principle’” (i.e., a pattern of connection that cannot be explained by conventional, efficient causality), “meaningful coincidence” and “acausal parallelism”. Jung introduced the concept as early as the 1920s but only gave a full statement of it in 1951 in an Eranos lecture, then in 1952 published a paper “Synchronicity — An Acausal Connecting Principle” in a volume with a related study by the physicist (and Nobel winner) Wolfgang Pauli.[1]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity
Evidence of Synchronicity in the Group Mind of a blog this sounds like what Admiral Poindexter was after with his terror exchange?
One of Jung’s favourite quotes on synchronicity was from Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, in which the White Queen says to Alice: “It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backwards”. [4] Because only if an observer could remember the future could synchonicity be expected and explained.
errr
that would be the entire republican party
if of course you actually did want to look at which politician served and which did not
Nite Loo Hoo, New Tonusr
Earlier this week, Poindexter again came under fire for the IAO’s latest proposal to predict terrorist events through the online selling of “futures” in terrorist attacks. The Senate again intervened to block the program
PAM was a joint venture between DARPA; the Economist Intelligence Unit, the business information arm of The Economist Group, publisher of The Economist; and Net Exchange, which was responsible for design, development and operation of the PAM trading system.
PAM was designed to much like other financial markets, with investors buying “futures” in events they think are likely to happen, and selling off futures as they believe events become less likely to happen. Some of the possibilities the PAM website offered for sale were the overthrow of the King of Jordan, the assassination of Yasser Arafat, and a missile attack by North Korea.
Bidders would profit if the events for which they hold futures — including government coups, assassinations and missile attacks — occur.

Blogs do it better you wannabes without ever thinking of making a buck off of human misery!
who would have ever expected a coup and overthrow of the American government?
yet here we are living it for 8 long years, this president was elected in neither election and this has been a silent and bloodless coup
Well last thread I was suggesting Ralph Nader as head of the FDA although what are the odds of that happening?
But wait — I hear the Republican Purple Heart Band-Aid Lady. She’s cackling with glee at John McSame.
Good point who would have predicted that but also who would have bet on it would betting be allowed for that?
Without complete freedom to bet on the most horrible futures the Terror Exchange would not have any predictive power because the blind spots what people refuse to think about are where people who bet contrary to the market make cash.
Who is the Republican Purple Band aid lady and why would she like McCain?
McCain and his fellow pilots were frustrated by micromanagement from Washington,[27] and he would later write that “In all candor, we thought our civilian commanders were complete idiots who didn’t have the least notion of what it took to win the war.”[26]

Just where was that John McCain when General Shinseki was saying we needed more troops?

Citizen Attaturk and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
It’s all gunna be kabuki dancin’ and Potempkin charades for the fascists…I jest hope Vote Vets and a few other Iraq War groups will take the bastard down when he tries wavin’ his bloody shirt. The scariest stuff is that a lotta folks are figurin’ that civilians can’t criticize or make military policy…that of course is who hasta make it in a democracy. The ignorance of the American public about the way the military and civilian command is supoosed to work in a democracy is frightenin’.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THA BASTARDS ARE NOT GUNNA GO QUIETLY!!
McCain ran ads accusing Bush of lying and comparing the governor to Bill Clinton,[106] which Bush said was “about as low a blow as you can give in a Republican primary”.[106] An unidentified party began a semi-underground smear campaign against McCain, delivered by push polls, faxes, e-mails, and flyers.[106] It claimed most infamously that McCain had fathered a black child out of wedlock (the McCains’ dark-skinned daughter Bridget was adopted from Bangladesh), and also that his wife Cindy was a drug addict, that he was a homosexual, and that he was a “Manchurian Candidate” traitor or mentally unstable from his North Vietnam POW days.[106][115] The Bush campaign strongly denied any involvement with the attacks.[115]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain
My bold OK McCain hugs the guy who calls his wife a druggie, his daughter a bastard, who calls him a homosexual, Manchurian Candidate, traitor and mentally unstable.
This is great we know that the second Obama says anything bad about McCain, McCain will say Obama is mean. But considering McCain hugged Bush after the Bush campaign said all this stuff about him well maybe McCain likes it when you call him names.
Even at the Lake a lot of us will back down to a Vet on military stuff but yeah we do have to hit McCain preferably for recent stuff. Not that there is anything wrong with that I notice men back down to women on abortion here.
Perhaps backing down is the wrong word Respect when an other speaks who is closer to an issue better.
Maybe we could get Obama to do some commercials with vets and their families and ask them whether they want Obama’s or John McCain’s vet bill.
Is John’s son going back to Iraq? John seemed very concerned that Obama’s plan would cut the number of troops in Iraq by giving the troops better options but is McCain’s son going back is one time in Iraq enough for anybody with options?
I don’t know if John’s son is going back but if not we can use this against him later on when the race is almost over.
The same way John should have let his son having gone to Iraq be a debate surprise on National tv some cards you wait to play until the pot is big enough.
John is not waiting he’s desperate.
Who wants to bet McTeleprompter’s son is getting the high treatment, spends his nights playing poker & drinking, and hasn’t been near any combat since he landed there? Huh. I wonder.
Meghan McCain is just like her Dad:
http://www.news.com.au/story/0…..72,00.html
Writing books and nothing else. How come she’s not in Iraq? I thought the McCain family were all heroes who served our nation or is it that Johnny McTeleprompter doesn’t believe women should be in combat?
I hope McCain’s son goes to college cause that would prove that the troops with options even Republican ones like McCain’s son prefer to go to school if they have a chance rather than sty in Iraq.
But we have to be careful until we know for sure McCain’s son might go back to Iraq. We criticize when we got something this right now is speculation on maybes.
Nite Pups!
I jest hope Vote Vets and a few other Iraq War groups will take the bastard down when he tries wavin’ his bloody shirt.
There was a guy on KO last night who had the best line, imo. He said: “We respect Senator McCain’s service – we just wish that he would respect ours.”

La Collins typed about “Barack’s Bad Day” and asks that we ask ourselves this: How dumb would you feel if you got in trouble over your selection for the vice-presidential screener? Well, Gail sweetie, probably not as dumb as if I had my name on campaign reform legislation and had my entire campaign run by lobbyists. Mr. Cohen says “Bush Does Europe Incognito,” and that President Bush’s stroll around a Europe more focused on his successor is a reflection of the damage a flawed temperament has done to trans-Atlantic ties. Mr. Kristof ponders “The Sex Speech,” and thinks that now it’s up to Barack Obama to give a speech about gender that might trigger a useful national conversation about women in leadership.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese today. Please keep your distance — I’ve got a horrid summer cold and I don’t want anyone else to catch it. Have a great day.
I heard the expression ‘baby mama’ for the first time just a few months ago. I’m willing to bet that most fox-viewers aren’t even familiar with that expression.
That aside, I love it when Fox goes this far overboard. People are catching on to their ridiculousness. And stuff like this hurts them more than it hurts Obama. Or at least, that’s my hope.

Actually it has been a slow motion coup that started with Watergate to Iran Contra to the current regime. The criminals were never sufficiently held accountable and they just kept playing their game plan forward.
The best part about this, is Uncle Sam will be able to call up your medical records just as easy as your driving record. No abuse worries there…
Not that its a prerequisite, but I just saw a clip where Johnny Mac says”he dosen’t know how to use a computer”what do you tell your kids when they ask you why he dosen’t use one? They will probabley say hes running for President, don’t they use computers?
oh no, no worries at all, Smugmby.
goes along well with Bush’s cord-blood bank for newborns. That won’t be a DNA database for the future, no way.
A photo memory was widely distributed.
CNN covered the story.
Joe Scarborough is astounded that Wesley Clark could say that McCain really doesn’t have a lot of experience in foreign affairs. Scarborough, mouth hanging open, asks a befuddled Mica, “A POW for 51/2 years….can’t even raise his arms to comb his own hair…how can anyone say he doesn’t really have foreign policy experience.” He then transitions to astonishment that Obama campaign doesn’t seem to be living up to it’s above board claims.
I guess we should turn to long term inmates of San Quentin for domestic policy expertise, particularly among inmates who have been physically injured. I also wonder when Wesley Clark became the official Obama campaign spokesperson. Although, I think Clark was right in pointing out that McCain’s military experience and Senate assignments don’t make him a foreign policy expert.
Which is why these people have to put on trial, fair, open, efficient trials, Bluetoe. And I demand reparations for the billions flat out stolen from US.
more Attaturk attitude upstairs
Although, I think Clark was right in pointing out that McCain’s military experience and Senate assignments don’t make him a foreign policy expert.
Agree and disagree. Membership in *some* Senate Committees would qualify as “foreign policy experience”. (e.g. Armed Services Committee, of which he was a member, Foreign Relations Committee, of which he has *not* been a member, so far as I know)
But JoeScar claiming that McCain’s being, essentially, a soldier and a captive, and that those qualities confer foreign policy experience, is ludicrous.
But then, JoeScar is pretty ludicrous on most days.
Couldn’t agree more. The question is whether the country wants to just “move on in the interest of healing the nation” or is actually willing to accept extradition to the Hague, long prison sentences and even the possibly of the death penalty for high level Republican officials. If Congress is any indication the former rather than the latter.
John McCain may be a war hero but as an American war hero he falls short of the mark. I was of the age for killing back in ‘68 and received a draft notice but didn’t cooperate with a illegal agency to be given permission to go on a killing spree, no consequences for wanton murder. Vietnam ,not a war but a unconstitutional incursion, is just like the Middle East wars where hate is whipped into a froth and spilled out on uninvolved innocent citizens whom we have be conditioned to view and treat as sub-human unworthy of consuming any more water or air.
To bomb anyone from 30,000 feet who hasn’t attacked us or harmed us makes you a HERO ? HOW?
WE very badly need to turn back from the path we are heading down and follow Dennis back to a country ruled by the consent of the governed. There are no war heros in a unconstitutional war of greed or at least that’s what we told some Nazi’s at Nuremburg isn’t?
I agree. What was the most irritating was that Scarbourough and Florida Gov. Christ treated it as a below the belt criticism of McCain’s “heroism” and the statement had nothing to do with that. Theirs was a sheer Republican tactic to divert Clark’s valid point and make it appear like “Swift Boating.”

the fact that we let cheney and rumsfeld be any part of our government after they made up bull crap to undermine nixon’s detante (documented fact) will forever plague our government.
I cannot believe we do not charge these traitors with treason and high crimes
hit the link button, paste in your url, hit enter
go to the left arrow button on your keyboard and it it four times, then type what you want to call your link, then hit enter
if Iraq throws us out and bush actually begins to make believe he is drawing down, I think mccain will say;
“I am a military genious, the surge worked, if the president followed my advice from the start we would not have this mess and I will fix the problem when you elect me”
and obama will have a mighty tough time overcomeing that
If these scoundrels are to be held accountable it will be necessary to frame these Republican criminals as traitors to the American people and the Constitution.
it will be easy to do, do a google search for “cheney, team b”
you will see youtubes with documented fact after fact, how in the past he manufactured data to create endless unrest, he did it again for Iraq and he is doing it now for Iran
it will be very simple to prove treason and they will be a pox marked for all time in our history books
I believe this would be the most important thing obama would do if he had the courage
Yes, and Lieberman seems to relish vicariously the experience of having served as a utter prat in the military.
Btw, is Lieberman going to hold forth at the Republican convention this year fulfilling the rôle abandoned by [S]zell “Marathon Man” Miller?
I spent 11 mos 22 days in country getting my ass shot up and lost quite a few buddies…having said that I in no way think I am qualified as an expert on military matters except that War is Hell and those who glory in it are sick, sad individuals
No wonder McCain doesn’t want to talk about VietNam.
He was a Communist collaborator, when many of his non-Annapolis trained, non-general sons resisted the North Vietnamese torture, MCCain cracked.
He remains a cracked man today.
He also called himself a War Criminal for bombing innocent woman and children from his jet. Many of the bodies simply evaporated into eternity from McCain’s bombs.
McCain was drowning when a civilian jumped into the lake and rescued him.
McCain has never thanked the civilian.
McCain is a cracked man in more than one way.
