Why well because higher rates now would kill John McCain however higher rates later after the election the GOP hopes will hurt Obama and who said the Federal Reserve was not a political office?
Yes I know higher prices for Wheat, Rice, Washington Cherries, Gas will hurt John McCain especially if prices keep rising from now until November.

As he left for Europe, President Bush called for a stronger dollar in the wake of soaring energy prices. Then Treasury Secretary Paulson said in an interview with CNBC that he would “never” rule out currency intervention, and New York Fed President Tim Geithner said the central bank is “watching” the dollar.

All of this concern over the international value of the dollar is a result of, well, the declining international value of the dollar.

Why bring up the falling Dollar now? Well first of all the Bush effect if Bush talks about the economy even if make that Especially if he trys to talk up the economy the economy takes a hit often the DOW drops that very day, the Bush effect is not 100%.
The second reason is that the President and various White House and Fed heads think that they have Greenspan’s ability to talk up or down the markets by threatening a rate increase/decrease they don’t have this cred.
Notice that Bush said this when he was in Europe and that they were not lowering their interests rates. Which if they did it would help strengthen the Dollar.
Worldwide there are food and oil riots caused by higher prices countries that can like China, Japan and the EU are going to feel even more pressure to raise rates to boost their money’s ability to buy oil.
They will be doing this at a time when we want cheap money to make our debts cheaper. But not to cheap so we can afford to buy oil in a sense we are balanced on a point swaying waiting to fall.
Will we save the banks with cheap money or will they fail as we raise interest rates to raise the value of the Dollar?
Will oil and food price inflation collapse the rest of our economy?
Can the GOP put off DoomesDay until after Obama is elected and repeat the Carter 70’s I think Carter got a raw deal cleaning up a mess and then Reagan took all the credit.
Or will we balance between high oil and saving the banks perfectly…given Bush’s previous performance on the economy and Helicopter Ben’s lack of spine I’m not sure which doom scenario happens first or if they all happen at the same time.
But in good news if the rest of the world thinks Obama can change things then they will buy soon when prices are low.

I do have a clue as to what returning vets experience, tho not in the direct way that you do. I would certainly like to see a series of posts at FDL- talking about Iraqi vets, and also VietNam vets. I’m of the VietNam generation, and I know that it sometimes takes years for problems to reach the max. And, Iraqi vets are gonna be in for much worse, as far as I can imagine from my limited knowledge.

The wind died down. i developed acute bronchitis from the smoke so it is good that the best pup in Bear Creek did not get out. His little lungs would be challenged.
This will be a tough fire season for firefighters and a lot of deployment away from home. Stay alert. I hope your community is well informed.
