Why well because higher rates now would kill John McCain however higher rates later after the election the GOP hopes will hurt Obama and who said the Federal Reserve was not a political office?
Yes I know higher prices for Wheat, Rice, Washington Cherries, Gas will hurt John McCain especially if prices keep rising from now until November.
But that is nothing compared to a stock market drop as credit dries up. Another Financial company falling and probably a few hedge funds the GOP hopes to postpone Doomesday until Obama is President.

Then Treasury Secretary Paulson said in an interview with CNBC that he would “never” rule out currency intervention, and New York Fed President Tim Geithner said the central bank is “watching” the dollar.

All of this concern over the international value of the dollar is a result of, well, the declining international value of the dollar.

Why bring up the falling Dollar now? Well first of all the Bush effect if Bush talks about the economy even if make that Especially if he trys to talk up the economy the economy takes a hit often the DOW drops that very day, the Bush effect is not 100%.
The second reason is that the President and various White House and Fed heads think that they have Greenspan’s ability to talk up or down the markets by threatening a rate increase/decrease they don’t have this cred.
Notice that Bush said this when he was in Europe and that they were not lowering their interests rates. Which if they did it would help strengthen the Dollar.
