¡Obamanos!
impeach!
Hi ES. I’m just jumping in having read of fires in Santa Cruz mtns. Is everything okay with Suzanne?
Hmmmmmmmmm, glad to be here.
:~)
Love Watermelon Man! Great version, too. Hadn’t heard this.
Hi Laura, I don’t know. First I heard about it. Smoke in the air in your neighborhood?
i’ve been wanting to ask that too. suz, are you still here? bonny doon is too close for comfort.
I’m going to have to make my own bumpersticker, haven’t been able to find one.
RevDeb had it right, ITMFA…!
Us3 – Cantaloop
(sampling heavily from Herbie’s Cantalopue Island)
here’s the firemap… i’m in boulder creek, up highway 9 from it.. its 300 acres, 1,000 residences threatened and the town of bonnydoon has been evacuated
I’m also listening to firedispatch (click on santa cruz county and then any of the links that say fire red) to listen
Hey Eureka, hey everyone :-)
Plenty of cake leftover.
Oh fork Suz, you have more fires out there?
this is is down the hill and over a ridge from me.. a lot closer than the summit fire was ll
No. Not yet, that is. It’s very dry and winds are terrible this week. But yahoo news writes of fire and evacuation in the Felton and Bonnie Doon areas, so I’m wondering how Suz is.
Aloha, LL! How’s Virginny these days?
If you like this, you would probably enjoy a lot of Mongo Santamarias music.. one of my favorite albums of his.. Mongo Santamaria introduces La Lupe’. It’s a real gem.
Wiping watermelon juice off my chin……and sending best wishes to those in the fire zone. Care ….care.
((((( Loo Hoo )))))
(((Suz))) Stay safe, dearie.
amen.
((((( LL )))))
Got time for a chilled Leffe ? *g*
What Laura said.
((( Suz )))
I’ve always loved that piece.
Thanks Betsy !
what she said!
((((Lib)))
Aloha CT! Things are fine in the Old Dominion tonight…how are things in the Isles?
(((( Petro )))) You know me, I always have time for a Leffe ;-)
wind is blowing it away from me but we are supposed to hit at least 90 tomorrow and our humidity today was only 20
not good for a forking early june fire.. that’s more august conditions
Suzanne, are the winds in your favor atm?
Your Fire Insurance up to date…? ;-)
(((( grrrrlllll! ))))
LOL
Damn. If I could I would send you some of our cold and wet (snowed yesterday morning and this morning).
yikes, Suz – that’s getting close-ish to you. We have friends of friends near Smith Grade Road, on the perimeter, probably evacuated.
((( ES ))) … sorry Bro, had to greet the ladies first … *g*
that’s what, 4-5 miles as the crow flies? too forkin’ close!
smith was one of the first roads closed besides martin and ice cream grade. i heard 1400 people evacuated
Isn’t this early for fires?
Send that dang weather to Calgary, we’ve had enough snow in Toronto already …
It’s been windy here since before Spring and way backed up on rain needs. Hope nobody throws a lit ciggie out the window.
No problemo.. I had no idea we had friends in trouble!
this is our second big wildfire in the county and yes it is very early. the summit fire burned for more than a week.. i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed this one stays under 1,000 and they get a handle on it
was listening to planes and copters flying overhead today – making their drops
Suz, I’m sending positive thoughts your way and hoping that the weather ghods cooperate to keep you safe.
What and ruin the Stampede…?
on that google map link, if ya click on the terrain mode, ya get a good idea of what is between the fire and me
Best of luck with that Suzanne.
Our march winds didn’t arrive til may this year.. and they are still blowing.
Hey, I took a photo of a really beautiful moth and posted it on flickr to share with everyone who might be interested.
Ladies and gents.. I present to you, The Pandorus Sphinx
Man, are you sure that thing’s not a Transformer?
Whoa, ES — that is gorgeous!
glad it’s going the other way, but hope you’re keeping token and a torpedo bag handy just in case
Man.. That’s the wall on my back porch.. When I first spotted it, thought to myself, why is a leaf stuck to the wall?
gorgeous!
Damn. Y’all still have the most awesome bugs there in the Ozarks.
and bailey the cat (and her hated cat carrier)
oops i forgot bailey
Heading off to bed. Take care and enjoy the awesome music and moths.
g’nite dr (pause) (another pause) dick
Thanks!
Hello Petro!
We really do, especially in the wet years. I’ve only seen a couple of these n my lifetime and I have been an avid outdoorsman in these parts for nearly 45 years. The guy who already had one posted on the net.. found his in Northern CA.
Oh brother. Take care.
G’nite Sir !
How’re you doing, Loo Hoo ?
*grins* Classic from my high school days, that one. One of those things that made me take a real interest in sampling and electronica later on. Not as esoteric as those genre, but i still LOVE that song, punaise!
nite doctor
I like your ‘toolkit’… You’re only missing the chamberpot…! ;-)
off to bed. nite all
Your moth looks like origami, ES.
Hope all stays well with you, Suz….sending you protective energy.
g’nite all.
Aloha, DD, Spurious and Laura!
g’nite spurious
g’nite laura d
SOme things are best left to the imagination. *s
nite laura, spurious
A little more clever acid jazz. *grin*
Mr Scruff–Get A Move On
One of my favorites from 1998, when i first heard the song. Then giggled two years later when it showed up in a car commercial. I was going ‘Yer late, idiots!’ in my head when i heard the first time. Commerical producers, always behind the curve of the good tunes.
No work from the hospital as of yet. But i just got in the consent forms so they can do the background check. So it could be a matter of days, once they get that info in.
good night to those off to bed
What on my mind? What’s on my mind is that come the end of this month, I’m going to beat the snot out of my tech staff. Mongo Santamaria doing “Watermelon Man” and I can’t listen to it, because I’m on an NX link to a big-ass Linux server connected into the Internet and so many gigabits I can’t count them. But I can’t listen, because our NX link transmits video but not yet audio. Sigh. The cobbler’s children go unshod.
No word from the hospital yet, even. I swear, typo city today.
dayam
Nite all.
Digits crossed for Suz ‘n the critters.
nite sunny
Suze, you still ok?
‘nite laura, spurious and Dr. (loooong pause) Dick.
What does that moth eat ES? Besides siding.
g’nite sunny
They have to give me the yay or the nay either way Suz. I knew it was going to take a while since they were doing a whole week’s worth of interviews in addition to my own as well. Just means i leave in july instead of late june. *shrugs*
That’s so much more artful than “You know how the mechanic has a front yard full or disabled cars…”
i’m still ok that guy
I’m doing fine, Petro. Really busy closing out the school year…;~) Vacations starts at 1:00 on Friday!
‘nite SunnyN, sweet dreams.
I shared this over at the TReehouse (shuffling feet)
I got published!
mmmmmm, cobbler!
I’m getting bummed too… I’m still awaiting the scheduling of a physical…! 8-(
Suz! thanks for the links! I hope you will be okay- I was regularly checking the Summit Fire map, and saw that it wasn’t close to you. But looks like it is only 2 miles from Henry Cowell State Redwoods Park, and despite the name of the park, there’s plenty of burnable stuff there- I know that park well- used to live just off Graham Hill Road- the lower part doesn’t have a lot of redwoods- madrone, oaks- ouch!
Good night, sleepers.
Sounds like overkill.. Oh well.. It’s early in the year..we will save ya some watermelon. *s
wow
Take yer time. I can’t wait for the birds eye view of the wall at waist height.
Congratulations! Where? I don’t understand the linky?
Huh?
It’s new to me too, ES — it’s an online travel guide, of sorts, affiliated with Flickr.
Suz- oh, and p.s. I know you are way up from HC. So, you’ll be okay.
Prostate exam
yeap – fire would have to go through several towns before it got to me
punaise jr. turned me on to that one recently. also People under the stairs, Hieroglyphics, etc.
an oldie, somewhat in that vein:
Digable Planets – Where I’m from
Guess you’ll just have to buy it.
Which do you recommend ES?
So. the royal liver building? lmao.. I am almost afraid to ask.
vg, there are some great books of race identity in brasil. unfortunately, they are back in brasdil. when we get there, i will post the titles up for you
Heh, I’m not anticipating that…! If I hear the snap of the latex, I’m outta there…! ;-)
#11 but I haven’t heard most of them.
lol — long story short, it has to do with the mythical liver bird (pronounced lye-ver) way back in Liverpool history.
thanks wobbly- I was going to respond to you on earlier thread, but totally lost power here- thunderstorms. I was off line for some time.
Lurking all these years made me so wish that I had time to dip into the Lake. Thanks for the dip.
During the day, we wear our bathing suits, at late, late we skinny dip.
*clutching pearls*
*g*
Um, actually, if you go through it without hearing the snap of latex you should get yourself outta there!
Once ya delurk it’s hard to go back…! ;-)
Good night all.
My dip.. just got REAL skinny.
Ya have to stick around now that you have Delurked, it’s a rule.
How do ya think the rest of us got here?
Heh, true! But, I refuse to turn my head and cough…! 8-P
boa noite tex

pain free sleep wishes tex
Night, Betsy.
Shrinkage?
(sorry!)
We are all the better for the both of ya too!
Dayam, Ya mean it gets worse…? ;-)
my internet went out for a bit so i wasn’t able to post in the last thread.
what i wanted to clarify was how some darker skin people look down on other darker skin people but they justify it by claiming that their own dark skin is not as ‘bad’ because it is not of african descent. Like I said, it is still messed up. My father(blonde hair, blue eyes) is considered a white brasilian but calls himself an afrobrasilian because his grandfather was bahian (african). It is all rather interesting
Wait till the little cutie hands ya the little cup.
Two words for ya, intestinal polyp.
Easy for you to hit, Busted. Try it sitting down. Without a nozzle.
wobbly- thanks- interesting and complicated. Social constructs of “race” vs the biology. And, Brasil seems maybe even more complicated than here.
Yeah dammit, no one ever wants ta give ya a helping hand. *G*
It is very complicated but it is not one that is tracked like it is here in the u.s. There are no boxes to check or spaces to fill in that would identify your race. You are simply brasilian.
as a nationality
spew
yep
Ya know, for being a mechanic, I know way too much about some of these medical procedures.
It’s not like flushing a radiator.
Well of course it’s not!
I’ve listened to many Hispanics dis the darker ones. They are ashamed, but they can’t help it. I don’t get it. I was in the post office today when an old man came in who was so indigenous. My god, he was magnificent. Yes, red skinned — showing all native features — wonderful chinbones, fabulous cheek bones…. you know, maximum face. He was simply old and wonderful to look at. Probably in his 70s or so….and just himself. Is it something in our DNA that makes whitey “better”? I just don’t know, cuz I’ve always kind of liked folks with character and color carved all over their face.
My knuckles ain’t the only thing I’ve busted.
But I also want to say that there is something weird about being shamed for wanting a blue-eyed baby. I kind of like keeping certain traits in play. As much as I enjoy a true indigenous native american face, I also get a kick out of a kid turning up blue-eyed. Aren’t people wonderful?! Can’t we just love ‘em all?
It’s not like flushing a radiator.
Ain’t that an enema…? ;-)
So Suzanne – How about them Lakers?!?
That’s funny, and I don’t know why.
Now that ya mention it…..
Me too.. I took the test Malcolm Gladwell talked about in Blink.. turned out I lean in favor of associations (or whatever he called folks not like my european olive self).
You can read about it..and connect to the test about two thirds down the article here.
And you’ve probably all gone to sleep, but i also think it’s amazing that Barak Obama has roots that go back way father than my own immigrant families. We should cherish that. He’s so “us” — so amazing.
My middle ‘un had the deepest blue eyes outside of Newman’s, when she was born, she still has blue eyes but they’ve lightened since…!
Satchmo sings a lullaby.
Drivin by…G’Day I have a Canadian Lady on my couch tonight and it is one of the best evah…reads that is. Naomi Klien Sock Doctrine. Wow everyone in the world needs to read this book. For three decades the Chicago Friedman economics deciples have been pltting to destabilize areas and countries Chile, Russia, China, Iraq and on and on. Replacing the business model of the locals with the Friedman corporate model “disaster capitalism”. Explains how big corp takes over your economy and rund theirs ibstead. I was passed over the first time I reserved the book now at last I have it.
She has one of the best minds of the times. I hope all this sharing of our way of life through globalizartion can be turned around the shock is used to destabilize and then root out the locals. Many examples. A good model is how the French protect their little family businesses and don’t let the corporate chains take over so much. Please read it will blow your mind.
Goodnight pups.
Be safe Suzanne.
The rest of ya too.
grrrrrr (laughing)
I find it a wonderful thing to celebrate. To me it says we are all related. My sister has brown eyes but I have green. Three of my sister’s four kids have blue eyes and blonde hair.
“Sock Doctrine?” I didn’t know that Naomi was Canadian… Learn something new everyday, if you’re not careful…! ;-)
g’nite busted
These days, being an immigrant is a dirty word.
Aloha, Busted!
‘nite Busted, sweet dreams.
Hey, bigbro!
Then this ought to get your attention:
From November
FDL Book Salon Welcomes Naomi Klein
Great Salon!
Great book, wonderful author..and fabulous book salon thread!
You can Digg this post at the Digg button at the top of the page.
Sorry, no link. My computer is unplugged so the lightning doesn’t fry it. I am on a borrowed laptop and can’t figure out how to make the link box appear.
I lived through a tornado warning over the past couple of hours. Nothing got within several miles of here, though.
I’ve got identical twin grandbabies coming in Sept. They’ll have brown eyes. And they will be adorable. I’m calling them Guido and Dante — their parents will name them whatever they choose. They will be darlings. What I was saying is that it kills me that my Hispanic friends get all in a dither when someone has a darker kid. Whitey ain’t what it’s all about…..but color matters in all cultures, I guess. And I just want a few blue eyes for contrast :).
Can’t we all just get along?
thanks neuro… i’ll snag it for you
There is no doubt that the fascist contingent in congress is going to diminish. But, by far, the blue dogs will fare better than the Republicans. Please understand that blue dogs are the arch-enemies, as is their key sponsor, Rahm Emanuel, together with his financial sponsors.
To get rid of a Republican, you need to find a good candidate and run him/her in the general election. Yes, he/she needs to win the primary, but that’s usually not so difficult.
To get rid of a blue dog, you need to beat an incumbent in the primary, and then beat whomever the Repubulicans put up in the genral election. Roughly twice as difficult.

How to follow the French model here? Seems we’re corporatized. I try to avoid bigbox, bigbiz and support the local funk. But so may Fox watchers are into the EZ Walmart model.
LOL you say that but when my sis had them, a lil hell broke out (sis’s hubby has brown eyes as well).
I would say that is how folks are back home in brasil except that it is not that uncommon to see two blondes with a dark child because most of us have a mixed heritage and you just never know what you’ll get
A most excellent point, wigwam! Twice the agony…! And Rahm is directly responsible for the latest batch…!
oh and congrats on the grandbabies. Will they be your first grandkids?
congrats on the twins (and hope they don’t arrive early)
I was going to say recessive trait, myself. In my case i know for a fact i’ve got a recessive blue eyed gene. I’ve seen a couple of my biological cousins and they have lighter blue eyes. I’m just overall dark becuase that’s what won out in the genetic lottery i was born into. *grin*
But i’ve no plans for kids at any time as of yet, and i’m not pushing my luck either. It will be interesting to see what happens when it does happen, though.
Congratulations! That should keep you busy.
1,670 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen CTuttle:
Wazup with the medical exam Brother T…what kinda symptoms ya got and why are ya whinnin’ about gettin’ the scope er the hernia test? Good God man, you been thru worse’n that and lived through it…my guess is yer gunna come thru with flyin colors and if ya don’t they’ll do sumpthin’ about it. I jest hope ya don’t hafta hang out waitin’ for the appointment until yer beard gets in the way of yer zipper.
KEEP THE FAITH AND DEON’T BE STUPID, WE’RE GUNNA NEED ALL THE ABLE PERSONEL WE KEN GET BEFORE THIS THI9NG IS OVER!!
Just the right tone!
I’m sure because our dad has blue eyes but I just find it intersting because most peole can’t figure out what I am. I have been labeled hispanic (had to tell folks hispanic is not a race), Indian (as in India), and the infamous…well your not all white.
My hubby is white so if and when we have kids, it ought to be very fascinating. He and I still turn heads when we are out in Sao Paulo.

More like a pre-shortlist.
Wow! Drational made it to Diary Rescue. Very cool
No argument with that.
Dayam, I’m only going for a work physical! They need to be sure I can handle the rigors of working at about 14,000 feet altitude, not hard labor either…! I just am a rather ‘personal’ and sensitive kinda guy! ;-)
that is a short list? wonder what the longer list looked like.
fingers and toes crossed they do not keep the gloves in the freezer
I’d like to see some surprises on that list, but no.
I’m actually hoping that the real surprise is his real choice. Betting that person’s name isn’t listed.
Well, no signs of a storm coming, so I’m calling it a night.
‘nite, all.
Wall Street Journal announces the Repolicans are gonna lose big in the Congessional races!
Shock Doctrine misspelled sorry all.
The Satchmo tube was awesome. He would have been heart broken over the Shock Doctrine disaster capitalism that took place in New Orleans. the rasicm and the greed is palpably rotten.
Thanks for putting up the Book Salon on Naomi Newtoner will be on it shortly.
Suz.. we have great CDF and I am sure that if the incident calls for it fire crews from all over the region are on their way. I did two years on wild land crews the Hot Shots are on it. Just make sure of a good escapr route and have pets and cars ready with emergency supplies and papers and other valuables ready to rock out of there. But you already know all that.
Ctuttle and Wang yo and Ho Rasicm in India with the caste system was unbelievable. All of these are tools for the disaster Capitalist and why we need to Impeach these sinister forces. Hope you get to the Observatory soon sounds awfully fulfulling.
Out of that list.. I choose Dodd.
g’nite neuro
I was going to reply about medical instruments stored in the freezer, but decided against it.
How’s the fishin and walleyes?
I’ve got a darling little granddaughter in Bozeman, MT — I say she’s going to be a barrel racer and a scientist like her father and a political shit-kicker like her mother. She’s surprisingly blue-eyed (dark-eyed dad and my germanic/scandinavian daughter)… it’s just fun.
Being a person is fun….or should be, I think.
No child should be shamed for having dark skin or specialized for having blue eyes. But all children should feel special and loved. My soon to be dark-eyed grandboys will charm me just as much as my blue-eyed future barrel racer does. The future shines bright…..I just wish I could promise them that we would all get rid of the scum that is ruining our country and that we could promise them a bright future.
‘nite neuro, sweet dreams.
nite neuro
all we can do is promise to do our best to make it happen
No Hispanics?

Not a kiss-ass type, it seems.
Aloha, neuro and thanx, big bro, I really look forward to it…!

Well, we will need your granddaughter to continue kicking butt because this mess of a country is going to require generations of work

1,670 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen bigbrother:
We left a few in the lake but it was the best freshwater fishin’ I’ve experienced in 40 years. Filled out every day on walleyes and northerns and went on a couple of adventures into the wilderness into hidden bays for big northerns and we found ‘em and we found heaven too, brother, I know when I die I ain’t goin anywhere close ta the paradise we found this laqst weekend.
Leavin Friday for 8 dayz on Lake Vermillion and I MIGHT come back ‘cuz there are too many people on that lake.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITIION,WE’VE GOT EVERYTGHIN ON THE LINE THIS TIME, WE CAN’T AFFORD TA LOSE!!
You and Suz relish that thought, eh…? ;-)
Children, being born innocent, have to be taught to notice their differences. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have any.
(sigh) that sounds wonderful norske
OK, maybe. It WAS 101 yesterday!
It was!!
innocent look
Northern Pike put up a great fight, almost reminds me of reeling in a mahimahi or a swordfish…!
That’s an interesting name, very interesting.
I don’t have anyone in mind. But I keep wondering how much of his choice will be “electoral” and how much “Vice-Presidential.”
And those stunning numbers that KO displayed tonight – I wouldn’t expect them to hold, but they leave him lots of room to be his own man on this, instead of playing “party-favor.”
Reminds me I’m on a see food diet.
ok, pups, that’s it for me tonight. i just checked and the fire is still not a danger to me (yeah!)
g’nite all
Aloha, Suz!
I will never understand why most unions didn’t back Kucinich or Edwards.
woo-hoo, suz! sleep well….
and ES, me neither
Take care, Suzanne. Thanks for your good work here at the Lake. It’s been fun to dip in after five years of lurking.
Night Suz.
Where were you fishing Norske? Musta missed it.
Edwards is the most perplexing… He leapt out of the gates with the two ‘Americas’…!
Kirk – I love that you’re bringing these up every night, linking and all.
But it’s time for those who believe in ideological purity to come up with some names – some palatable names.
Nearly everyone who Obama (or any nominee for that matter) is going to have to swing with is going to have some “problems.” You simply won’t find anybody with DC experience who hasn’t gotten some shit on their shoes.
So, get us some names.
‘nite Suz, sweet dreams.
Here’s some Satchmo & Johnny Cash to take you on out.
Blue Yodel #9
nite suzanne

g’nite folks – off to sleep myself.

Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!

g’nite CT, it must be late if HI is noddin’ off.
This old dog is about to sleep with the Phandora Sphinx.
Good night fabulous firedogs
Night Suz…best wishes on the fire. Night CTuttle…best wishes on the physical. Night Kirk…best wishes on the search.
Night ES, I’m excited about La Lupe. Anyone still up? WWD? Newt?
Oh, yeah. Doing some vetting of my own.
Collins is on Obama’s bad day. I like her.
What are you vetting?
I’ll choose my topics: you choose yours.
The Dems obviously have chosen their candidate – and I’ll vote for him (or her, as the case may have been).
The Dem candidate isn’t a hallowed vessel: they’re a freaking politician – they carry policies.
I could give a damn about the name: I care about the policies.
I reserve my altar for sacred objects.
The flawed ambitious human beings who seek our approval for elected Fedral office are our servants, not our sacred objects.
At least not mine.
YMMV.
We need names? Fine.
Sometime this week, I’ll try and find some NAFTA victims’ names: the kids who died in their parents’ vin flight to El Norte after their traditional maize income was lost to NAFTA.
Will those names meet the Party purity test?
Working my way through this list.
I’m still here, Loo.
‘nite Eureka!
Roy Orbison, anyone?
1,871 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Loo Hoo:
My son and I spent four dayz on the Lake of the Woods…we try and go at least once a year but this was as early as we’ve been on that lake and it was the best freshwater fishin’ I’ve had over 3 dayz. We penetrated well into the Canadian “wilderness” (about 45 miles north and east of “the Angle”) and if I wasn’t old and past my prime I might still be there. My kid wanned ta get the bags and camp stove out and spend a night er two but I explained about what 40 degree temps at night and black flies fer breakfast ken do for your disposition and he had second thoughts. It’s a piece a heaven though…won’t be that way for long though.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNTIION, THERE IS STILL A LOT TA FIGHT FOR!!
Okay, not too wild about the General Jones myself. Too much corporate influence for my taste. Same problem he had with Johnson.
And I love Roy Orbison, WWD, thanks!
Thanks, Loo Hoo, for digging that out. I hadn’t previously heard of him. And, I do try to keep up on the honorable among the military. And a moment of silence for Bill Odom, who seemed to be one of them.
Love you Kirk, sounds like you need a ((((HUG)))).
no Wes Clark? had seen his name floated as a conciliatory Clintonista nod, with military points to boot. also, E.J. Dionne had a fairly convincing piece touting Biden.
This could be a problem the GOP is counting on Obama making the mistakes that President Carter did which is raise taxes and interest rates to pay off the debt and cut government spending which yes will work to drop the debt.
But it will kill the economy unless the government spends money to create jobs. Reagen spent money creating jobs by creating a bigger army.
But where was the Return on Investment on that? Its like the normally random first shot in pool any other benefits the economy got where random.
As opposed to the benefits we could get with a good plan.
A new road gives every car ridding it better gas mileage a road well designed for expected growth in traffic and with a good safety factor built in will last longer without cracking.
Green Power is free and clean we need to invest in it.
But what if Furman decides to talk Obama out of investing in America’s infrastructure? What if Fuman talks Obama out of renegotiating NAFTA? What if Furman convinces Obama that a weak Dollar is best to save the banks or that we need to bail them out without getting our cash back? Like the current Bush/Fed policy is doing where the Fed is accepting anything as collateral from the banks at face value? Which is something that has to stop.
Are there no Lefty Economists out there Obama could have hired?
Sounds like heaven, NorskeFlamethrower. When I was a kid we lived in Northern Minnesota and I fished for Walleyes a few times. Beautiful country, for sure.
How did you choose your name, Norske? Somehow I don’t see you throwing flames around.
Pardon me, Kirk.
I have my own purity tests, too.
No one fits perfectly, and no one should. There’s 300 million people living here, and we all find warts and jewels in our own way.
But no matter who gets chosen for this job or that, nearly half the country is going to hate their fucking guts, and the other half has to vote for their boss.
We need qualified, imperfect, partisan Patriots. Nearly all will fail many of your tests, and mine, too.
And they will be the government.
Wait till you hear this…
Maybe Obama ought to ask Edwards if he’d help with the vetting since he said he has no interest in VP.
A bit off topic, but:
Think about the irony of this situation. We, the U.S., are selling corn so ceaply in Mexico that Mexican farmers can’t make a living income, but our farmers insist that they can’t compete without low-cost Mexican-immigrant labor. Yet again, the unseen-hand job.
Maybe, but he has a sick wife to tend to and I don’t blame him for wanting to spend as much time as he left with her.
*sniffle*
1,871 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen LooHoo:
“How did you choose your name, Norske? Somehow I don’t see you throwin’ flames around.”
I think you may have caught me on a “good day” Citizen LooHoo…but around here I’m known fer not takin’ any bullshit and I ain’t afraid of gettin’ some on my shoes, if ya know what I mean.
Yhe “Norske” handle is in memory of my Gampa Ole who was a CPU organizer in the lumber camps a northern Minnesota, a professional gambler, a woundede WWI vet and the smartest man I ever knew!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE ASMMUNTION, THE BASTARDS AIN’T DONE YET!!
Fuck, they can’t afford to buy corn to eat.
wang, I love you and newtonusr and our other good folk here.
My brief policy/tactical summary:
The Rethugs pulled to one side ’cause their activists (64-?) pulled ‘em to do so.
Before them the Dems pulled to one side ’cause their activists (32-?) pulled ‘em to do so.
Pulling hard now isn’t emotion: its leverage!
Anyway, enough left brain: hugs to you and Newton and the Lake.
I don’t see you throwin’ flames around
got a chuckle out of that one!
I don’t know what it’s like now. I was in Guatemala in the late 60s, peasants ate corn and beans, and that was it. And if they fell off their corn field, they’d get killed. Seriously, they planted corn on nearly vertical hillsides merely to survive. They tied ropes to the tops of ridges to plant and harvest. The term “dirt poor” doesn’t begin to describe it.
I’ve seen you get in the mud, Norske!
That is pretty, WangDangDoodle.
W isn’t having too much of a farewell from our European friends, is he? Even the protesters haven’t got the time of day for him!
How about Ralph Nader as head of the FDA I bet with him in charge 80,000 South Koreans will not be protesting importing our beef.
I bet the S Korean cabinet won’t all resign after such a deal is announced like they just did yesterday.
If were creative we can put the people we want in charge to fix Bush’s failure’s
I wonder how many Senators from beef states would like to sell beef to more countries. I wonder how many are scared that another mad cow scare could kill the industry?
Well who has a better safety record than Ralph. We need to move from fast and cheap food with low quality to better quality not so fast and cheap.
In other words family not factory farms. Sustainable farming not the destroying the topsoil stuff we have been doing. I think every major civilization has fallen as a result of over farming or invasion.
Oil based fertilizer is no substitute for top soil. Pesticides kill bugs well then they can kill us why because poison is poison.
No, the protesters are off making noise to the government that they’re being scammed about the 10$ for a gallon of gas. That Bush caused in the first place, and i’m pretty sure they know that too. They’ll go after the Shrub later, i think. When there’s already been attempts to arrest former Admin members overseas? Uh yeah.
nite kirk
Remember Bubba’s world tours?
The planet could not get enough of him. We may be heading towards a similar time.
When you try to set the world on fire, they will let you know.
yer talkin’ math and i been drinkin since 2:30 this afternoon, i’m barely computin, let alone tpying.
I’ll pay the piper tomorrow, fershur.
It appears that in the afternoon, McCain can’t remember what his position was in the morning. (The Kama Sutra has so many.) Has he always been that way or is this a function of age?
Roger Cohen has a piece on this in the NYT.
*sigh* had to go feed the kitty baby
gald to see you all are still here. been surfing youtube for music as well
That’s a big ol’ FU!
Sheryl for you.
youtube, start with one and lead to another…
I think it’s a function of who he’s talking to. He still doesn’t realize that people are recording and videoing and getting stuff up in minutes.
It must be a function of stupidity.
I just can’t believe this guy didn’t see George Allen get his head handed to him because someone has a recording device.
He has stepped in it repeatedly, and multiple times per day since Senator Obama took his place at the top. His daily campaign is 3 positions mistakes (lies) and frantic back-peddling by his staff for the other 16 hours. I’m starting to think you’re right – that he’s suffering a break.
That’s how I got from Sheryl Crow to this…
LOL so true.
i ended up with Earth, Wind and Fire performing a song called, Brazilian Rhyme. it was penned by milton nascimento (total brasilian music icon). I had NO idea that he wrote two songs that were recorded by EW&F. Learn something new everyday. i found a video someone had created with pics of brasil. It made me homesick. I can’t wait to get back there for a few months
Return on investment a National Healthcare plan covering everybody rather than our current system or Obama’s plan would cost less than our current system and cover everybody.
We could use that money we save to throw back into our economy. The GOP and the DLC hate this so who cares Obama is our guy now lets work to change his mind.
A good leader can admit when they are wrong a good leader knows the difference between pandering and standing on Principle. Hilary refused to say she would change her vote on the war after finding out about Bush’s lies.
Well will Obama make that mistake with us? Does he hope that his half a loaf plan will satisfy an America hopping for a full loaf. Will Obama invest in guns and star wars
action figuresweapons like a little boy in a toy store/GOP President or will he be responsible and get us all real healthcare.Hilary could have won if she would have GONE LEFT on the war and healthcare. Forget race Hilary never gave her base the red soy meat they wanted for the primaries.
Instead she said Red Soy Meat was a nonstarter dismissed everyone else and waited for the 30%ers to overwhelm us!
End result Obama a moderate who did inspire us about Race in America got the Nod. Now we just need Obama to keep inspiring us.
He really just seems like a puppet with a marionette controlling him. He does not know what to say or how to behave without his handlers. It’s almost cruel that they would put him in this position. And if Cindy really gave a rip about him, she would not have encouraged him to run.
no time to actually hang out … just a drive by … but I gotta give a shout out to mongo! good choice!
here is the video if anyone is interested. It starts with the recorded version and then moves to the live version they performed in Brasil. Why don’t bands sound this good live anymore?
newtonusr, I’m sorry to jump down your throat. I apologize.
(the following is unrelated: I’m trying not to hog comments….)
wigwam here in CA the invisible reach-around for human migation is just painful…so many folks move north because NAFTA corn imports destroyed their local economy.
And, of course, the Farm Bill helped make it happen.
I’m just not able to find words for suffering faces over years and onramps…and “tragically awesome” doesn’t suffice for that canvas…
In California, at least so many social wingers/blue dog pols who support NAFTA step up to have the NAFTA migrants who come here arrested.
Cause people there fleeing the NAFTA that costs jobs here come here.
And if they’re lucky, we don’t put ‘em in jail for working.
That makes money for us, too.
Well, some of us.
The owners.
Kinda reminds me of vertically integrated ownership of a triangle with
rumjails andsugarproduce and…um…people. That’s it…..goosh
hey wobblybits, just wanna say thank you for the recommendation of the gil farro album — downloaded it the other night and have been enjoying since!
I’m thinking they don’t want to win this. Give it to the dems to repair, cuz there’s nuttin’ left to plunder. Otherwise, they’d have put up something better than cottage cheese in green jello.
He really did miss his shot in 2000. Claiming to not be embittered by that campaign, claiming security and tax credibility, and claiming to have a relationship with God and just about any flock that will have him – too late.
I do feel sorry for him, but that’s nowhere near wanting him to be President. Even Bob Dole was a more decent man, although not by much.
Totaly great salon zipped through will go back a great collection of commentors like a Who’s Who of bloggers. The collective intelligence will overcome these visous fuctards. It challenged the psyche to comprehend grokking that mindset. It is as if a school of medicine must be created to cure this sick mentality.
nothng like enjoying great music, is there? I’ve been listening to Milton Nascimento via Youtube this evening. You ever heard of him?
heh.
What the heck?
Joe Lieberman makes political issue of John McCain’s son
John McCain has carefully avoided mentioning the military service of his son Jimmy, a Marine who returned from his first tour in Iraq earlier this year, on the campaign trail — to prevent anyone from suggesting he would use his son’s service for political advantage.
But this morning, McCain surrogate Joe Lieberman invoked that service to defend McCain, who was under fire from Democrats for saying during an interview that it’s “not too important” when U.S. troops leave post-surge Iraq.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.co…..n-joe.html
I thought John would save his son serving in Iraq until the Presidential debates? I honestly thought that was his last card? It seems early in the game to throw this card out…unless he really is not getting any cash out of the GOP moneymen unless he shows them he can get better poll numbers.
John’s son serving might be his last shot.
oh yes — milton is another long time favorite ;)
our recent obsession though is ojos de brujo — great flamenco hiphop rave fusion band from barcelona. i really love those folks. here’s a clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlv1ckMUkp4
So goosh is like google but only a few results?
Strange…
Lieberman can debate Webb on that front.
Konichiwa for you. wobbs…
I just spotted this video of Gilberto Gil. It is a video for the song, Esperando na Janela
I will check it out right after O Amor Aqui de Casa is over *g* I love it. he is wearing the typical clothes and hat they wear
thx! and I gotta go …at a conference and need to pick it up early tomorrow morning. see y’all later. and keep the faith!
Fair warning, it’s a departure from what you’re watching.
McCain is supporting a war 70% of the American people are against or at least think that Bush is fighting poorly/loosing. This tarnishes McCain, Nixon already used the secret plan for victory theme to win an election so I don’t think that the American people will fall for it twice.
It also helped that Nixon was running against the party in power at the time in charge of the war.
McCain seems to think he can pull a Nixon claim that he can win the war when Bush couldn’t but since McCain is in the same political party as Bush this tactic won’t work not even the MSM seems enthusiastic about it and when McCain looses Bobo McCain has lost his base.
ROFL that is just awful. So awful that I had to watch it two times. I think I may actually like it a bit
later, lee5.
I’m out, too.
See y’all around brunch!
Hey Firepups, anybody seen the Raven in the last few dayz that I been in the woods?
Twice? I watched it 3 times. It grew on me…
snrkzzzzzz…..
McCain is arguing that the Bush tax cuts will be good for the economy and that getting rid of them will cost jobs.
As far as the Bush tax cuts being good for the economy has McCain looked at the stockmarket lately, or the very likely dropping value of his eight? homes.
When McCain talks about repealing the Bush tax cuts will cost America jobs doesn’t he mean cost us more jobs?
Although to be fair by shifting the debate to tax cuts for the rich McCain does avoid talking about $4 a gallon gas though.
Nope I was going to ask you that but this is a little early for him though.
Kirk – I’m not offended or insulted, and there’s no reason to apologize.
I have settled, I admit it. I decided to put my faith in the nominee, and will do everything to help him win.
That’s not to say that we shouldn’t find every crack and try to fill it, and strongly encourage him and his team towards more Progressive tendencies.
But somebody has to run the joint. Somebody has to be the President’s Chief of Staff (we all recall what happened when Bubba brought Mac McLarty from Arkansas), and someone has to be Transportation Secretary, and someone has to head the offices at Interior, and HHS, and we will need a FED chair, and a secretary of State and Defense and Treasury and someone for CIA. And the list goes on and on.
Some of them will be our favorites and some we will live to regret, but all of them have to be qualified, and there are many of those in Washington. We know what a cesspool that place is.
I wonder what the average home in McCain’s 8 neighborhoods cost during the housing boom? I wonder what the average sale price for those homes is now? I wonder how Cindy’s stocks did in inflation adjusted dollars under Clinton and under Bush?
All of McCain’s economic arguments can get trumped if it turns out Cindy made more cash under Bill!
Attaturk is upstairs!
Please drink our milkshake
The Raven Raven, CTuttle and Greenwarrior? were rappin down the War they waged OT while TexBetty told them to pipe down they blew her off. It was an interesting late thread, He was around yesterday.
