I recommend that the Congressional medical staff practice abstinence-only treatment. Two aspirin for heart attacks, stroke, gout, hangovers, incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Works for pregnancy. Ought to work to keep our representatives as healthy as their policies do us.

A serial adulterer, a former Naval Aviator who always has his stick in one hand and a bottle in the other, instructing our youth in abstinence-only education. My. Let’s not let hypocrisy or science get in the way of theocracy.

It’s been known for decades that accurate, age-appropriate sexuality education delays the age at which sexual activity starts, reduces unwanted pregnancies and reduces the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases.

Unlike McCain’s earlier days as a CongressCritter and Naval Aviator, where it took a good case of the clap to get your wings, STD’s today cannot all be cured by time, a bottle of bourbon and wishful thinking, or even antibiotics. Several are fatal; untreated, all are dangers to public health. Moreover, pregnancies and STD’s are only a small part of the toll exacted by denying accurate sexuality education. Needlessly flawed self-images and relationships - based on shamefully incomplete and inaccurate information - exact a greater toll.

The GOP prefers pandering to religious fantasies (and voters) more than it does making informed policies based on the best public health information available - in a country that imagines itself to have the best medical staff and services in the world. If that’s what they call responsible public health policy, I’ll bet they call cutting off a mountain top to get a pound of coal and dumping it in the nearby streams “environmental management”.

I agree, of course.
And I agree that procreation is probably the initial biological urge … but we’ve evolved, and I think humanity found that the sexual urge is warm, funny, delightful, anxious…etc., etc. I believe that our children deserve to know that their desires may run wild, but that they can be both safe and responsible and serious and joyful. I hate the ‘just say no’ mentality. It’s primitive and purposeless and negates human reality.

I can’t argue against your point, I agree with it

what I am saying is it’s more then that, it is a necessity, a drive that cannot be constrained or taught away

you cannot teach abstinence, if your child is normal you will fail

those that claim they are abstinant who are past the age of adolesance yet still verile…they are liars
