I make the ass kissing of Feinstein by Whitehouse, and her gaveling this hearing, along with the sudden openess of Senator Rockefeller for the Phase 2 Intelligence report after 3 years of silence, to be signs of fear by Rockefeller and Feinstein and even in Schumer and Reid of payback by the voters for the collusion by those two with the Right.

mebbe self serving, to make it clear Whitehouse made her divulge the info., instead of burbling it out willingly? is she still on the payroll? does she have officemates or superiors or generally nasty people who might retaliate if she acts like a squealer?

Although, if that were the case, then why didn’t Caproni testify that she was not permitted to see them? Instead she simply said she did not, which Whitehouse justifiably called her out on. I am curious, why she didn’t then offer her lack of access to them in her own defense?

I used realPlayer audio & streaming video through the Justice site. Fuzzy (hence my difficulty reading names of some of folks there), but otherwise it worked well.

that seems to be what the repugs want to happen. Specter’s the only one who showed up.

The Democrats there asked outstanding questions, imo.

The 1st witness for the afternoon session to come (Cloonan FBI ret.? interrogation expert with experience dealing with Al Qaida)
says the enhanced & coercive interrogation methods are ineffective, unreliable, basically useless. Making it pretty clear he regards the use coercive interrogation techniques inflames more recruits to seek AQ, is injurious to US reputation around the world…

understatement.

Schumer mostly rinsed and repeated what went on before he arrived, but did it to good effect.

They’re about to break until 2pm (several votes about to begin on Senate floor).

BUT, Feinstein is swearing in the next panel of witnesses 1st, and get intros out of the way before suspending the proceedings for the voting break.

I wonder if doing this locks in some rule having to do with the repugs basically ignoring the hearings, just in case they start popping in later in the afternoon to demand their babble-time. e.g., would this cement the “earlybird rule” for the afternoon? heh.
