Someone's spreading rumors through Novakula, and fifty bucks says it's Rahm himself:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reported to be privately talking about Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the House Democratic Caucus chairman, as the next senator from Illinois if Sen. Barack Obama wins the presidential election.
Emanuel told this column he is not interested in the Senate and has not talked to Pelosi about it. He also suggested that Pelosi might be saying she would regret losing him from her leadership team. However, the source quoting the speaker indicated she was enthusiastic about Emanuel's elevation to the Senate.
It's actually up to Blagojevich to appoint a replacement for Obama's seat, which is up in 2010. It's hard to imagine he wouldn't defer to Obama on the matter, though.
Would Rahm really get the nod over Jan Schakowsky, a solid anti-war progressive and staunch Obama supporter?
I guess Rahm is looking for the edge by getting tongues wagging early.
So in his honor, let's resurrect...yes, my favorite YouTube. Take it away, Rahm...

Hi, Jane. Read the Rahm rumor in an earlier thread and have already sent Nancy an e-mail asking if she is totally out of touch with the progressive community. Won’t do any good but I just couldn’t take it.
I think Blagovich should make a statement and let Nancy-pants know that it’s his deal and none of her business.
And if he’s reading my mind, he’ll include the fact that if Nancy would PAY attention to her business(like impeachment), we’d all be much better off.
Jan Schakowsky = Up
Rahm Emmanuel = Down & Out!
Nancy Pelosi is rich, entitled Northern California wine-sipper whose progressive credentials end at being actually well, progressive. She’s shown virtually no leadership on things like FISA, War spending, military affairs (body armour for instance), Impeachment or other progressive causes. She’s happy with her parking space, primacy and perks but not so much with Progressivism. Oh, and she loves her some Rahm.
It must have ticked her off when Obama set the “No Lobbyists, No PACs” rule for the party as well as his campaign. Teeth gnashing, much?
Oh man, this needs some aggressive action on our part. We got rid of Traitor Joe Lieberman. We’ve exposed many of the other DLC infiltrators like the Clintons and others. The time is ripe to clean House in the DemocratIC Party, and Emmanuelle is a dustball that needs sweeping up put into the garbage can, not put on the mantle.
I think it’s premature to be worrying about who is going to replace Obama. Not good to sell the bearskin before you’ve killed the bear, as we say up here in the frozen north. (not so frozen today. Pushing 32 celsius and rising.)
As I said earlier today, Pelosi doesn’t seem to know much about Illinois politics. Maybe she just wants to get rid of him in the House.
Obama will make the decision. Rahm is going to have to prove himself to get the nod. Obama sees through him, and will use him as he thinks best.
Then she should stop him from picking candidates who lose for the DLC. Tired of all of them.
Did everyone miss the part where the reporter is Bob Novak, that he isn’t quoting Nancy Pelosi directly but someone who just happens to be saying as third-party hearsay that they heard this rumor which just happens to be favorable toward Rahm which Rahm then discusses on the record with the said, Bob Novak? It says Pelosi is “reported to be” talking about this — reported by whom? To whom? How many degrees of separation is Novak from Pelosi in this rumor and who are his oh-so-credible-I’m-certain sources, being the parragon of virtue that he is and all.
Honestly, when did any of us start to take anything Novak says with any level of credibility? I’m with Jane — this has Rahm planting a self-serving story so he then gets to swan in an demur while getting it “out there” anyway with Novak gleefully willing to stir the Dem. pot in the bargain, written all over it.
All true, but it’s best for us to know if this is even possible and let her know that it’s not acceptable. Don’t really think it’s her call anyway.
Isn’t it just a little bit early for any of this divvying up the spoils?
Seeing as how nobody’s won anything, yet.
And, isn’t the real question “why would anyone want to move Rahm to the Senate? It’s not like he couldn’t do less damage, there….”
I dunno. Rahm is a long time supporter of Obama. Didn’t he come out for him yesterday or was it as long ago as the day before?
So Christy, I take it that you think Mr “No Facts” might have an agenda in putting this out into the world? /s
Rahm planting a self-serving story so he then gets to swan in an demur while getting it “out there” anyway
it’s a right-only seedy Rahm
imho,
Rahm is better suited for the Knesset then the Senatesset
Rahm Emanuel for Vice President!!!111
I think it was atrios that had the headline the other day: “Rahm Emmanuel can crawl out from under his desk now”
eeuww, the cootie Carville was in that.
One of my favorite vids ever about DLC politicians:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
If this is coming Bob Nofacts-ula, then there’s coordination happening somewhere, and that’s why we need to come out strong against it now, before “the plan” gains any traction.
Rahm is not someone I want to see in the Senate or anywhere else for that matter…
Jan Schakowsky = Up
Dear progressive goddess, PLEASE!
lol, yeah, the cootie destroyed any taste i might have a coke.
WHA!?!
OK…it’s clear there’s an effort to bolster Emmanuelle’s standing. Have another cocktail weenie you bubbleheads. Damn, we so need more Blue America candidates in DeeCee. You know, people withOUT DeeCee experience.
and that ruined my taste for pepsi
Thanks Jane.
digg
Ding.
heh.
I love that Rahm portrays himself as holding Bush’s feet to the fire. How’s that one working out fer ya?
it’s hasn’t worked out so good for the rest of us.
If you were Nancy Pelosi, staring down Steny Hoyer and Rahm Emanuel, wouldn’t you jump at the opportunity to get one of them promoted to the Upper Chamber? I know I’d do everything in my power to get rid of them both.
But Jan’s a great idea, Jane.
On the same wavelength, let’s start talking about progressives for the Veep slot: Boxer, Feingold, Sherrod Brown, Dodd, Leahy, Wyden. Also Governors Schweitzer, Patrick, Strickland, Gregoire, and Paterson.
Gotta keep that Overton window open to the left on the Veep choice.
Bob Novak is full of what I scoop out of my catbox.
Even a broken clock can be right twice a day…at least those dating from the pre-digital era. As Novak dates from the era of party lines (telco and Rethug), I’m anble to believe his unnamed “source” may be getting one thing right:
Hell, if I had to see Rahm evey time I went to work, I’d be downright ecstatic about getting his sorry ass “elevated” outta there.
Rahm has donated more to Diane Benson’s opponent in the Alaska Dem House Primary than he’s ever donated to a non-incumbent running against a solid progressive in the history of Rahm’s PAC. Ethan Berkowitz, Benson’s opponent in the primary opposes health care reform, and wants full-blown ANWR development. Yet Howie, Jane and Christy refuse to endorse Diane Benson - who almost beat Don Young in 2006 - for Blue America.
Why?
I’d just make sure that if he chooses another senator to run with, he choose one from a state with a Dem governor.
I would love to see Feingold, Dodd or Leahy as VP.
They know the law.
hey…we’re dissing my posse here (well, except for the microbrew-swilling wing. and the Straight Edge wing. and…)
What has Rahm done for us lately?
And when was the last time we believed anything Novak said?
(rhetorical questions)
Kirk,
I read back over the Saturday late late night comments and saw your recommendation to go over the mountains via the Sisters route. Thanks! What a great journey. We went up north towards Liberal Oregon instead of into Salem, seeing some of the most beautiful farmland Ms ET or I have ver seen.
Rahm’s manic bouncing-off-the-walls arrogance surpasses belief. Being in close quarters with him must be tough.
as per ET @ 35– Rahm is destructive to the progressives.
As for your second question, it’s been a looooooooong, looooooooooooong time.
(good rhetorical questions, btw!)
Why would he move to the Senate though. He is high in the House leadership. He’d have no seniority in the Senate.
Wow. Maybe Scottie McClellan is fer real?
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpoi.....congre.php
He’s gonna testify for John Conyers. Could it really be happening, or is this more song and dance signifying nothing?
Hey ET,
Weren’t there 3 Dems in that race? What happened with the third one?
You know Benson is a favorite of mine since the ‘06 election. Gutsy woman, a real progressive.
Anybody else notice Mr. Emmanuel is talking like has just gotten back from a five martini lunch in that video?
*been there, done that*
ET, thank you.
I’m so glad you had a good trip. Save for the Honorable Judge Ochoa, I’ve never seen any reason to stop in Salem myself (except for the last “stock-up” stop before heading off to camp. I’m glad you got to see the Willamette Valley: I absolutely love it there. I hope you and Ms. ET have a chance to do more exploring in Oregon — if you ever do, I’m happy to bombard you with travel tips…
Wishing you and your family good travels.
Christy is up top.
ding!
what Teddy said…
Christy upstairs Whither the WHIG
It has hardly been enough time for Rahm’s “big ideas” to be forgotten. He wants to keep his name in the lights? wow, he must be out of political capital and hoping to keep his house job. Someone with as big an ego and limited comprehension of america’s voters wants to make that even more plain to everyone? Or is he about to become a lobbyist?
He must be awash with republicanism. He may believe the people forget the day after the event now, something only people that had to believe their constituents did if they had an (R) next to their name.
How many out of touch money launderer’s does it take? I hope Obama means to clean this up.
There was a three-way race, now it is a two-way race.
Jake Metcalfe, the head of the AK Dems in 2006, who took Rahm’s advice not to suport Benson against Young, dropped out after it was alleged that one of his campagin workers had created re-directs based on Ethan Berkowitz’s name, leading them to gay lifestyle and rich kid sites in San Franciscoa, where Ethan was raised.
Now the primary race is between Diane Benson, and Rahm’s PAC puppet, Ethan Berkowitz.
Novakula
Not just him. The rumormonger is also pushing Hoyer for the next Speaker.
Yecchh. Also bleahhh.
I hope Pelosi’s judgement isn’t that bad.
We’d be better off if Steny could be the next election cycle’s Al Wynn…
As to Rahm Emmnauel I have but Two Words: Christine Cegalis.
Heh….I liked that Utube a lot myself.
Over at The Confluence they got a word for the like of ’The Rabbit’…
’Scumbag Democrat’
Take it for what it’s worth and if this sort of thing gets you all exercised you better have our doctor check your bloodpressue…
’Cause if and when Obama starts making these sorts of picks, which as sitting President he’d have the right to do so and no meein’, may of you are going to get some ugly surprises.
Ugly.
Actually this is Pelosi trying to kick Rahm upstairs and get him out of her hair. I doubt he could do more damage in the Senate than he has in the House. I hope she gets her way.
