The class of meds known as anti-psychotics” were also known as “major tranquilizers”.

Who cares? Well, this class of meds – along with the “lithium class” [one member] and anticonvulsants (anti-seizure drugs) – are also used to help patients with bipolar disorder.

The anti-psychotics are also used to relieve severe depression (when not repsonding to anti-depressants alone) and extremely severe anxiety disorders (not responsive to other modalities).

Take home message: if the national program to monitor “tranquilizers” is construed to include anti-psychotics (drugs with efectively no abuse potential), it will serve as a way to identify anyone with psychotic disorder (including schizophrenia), a very large proportion of those with Bipolar I, and many with severe depression/anxiety.

Well, the above dx are used to deny medical insurance. Because the same firms that own the insurance databanks are often part of megacorps with “financial service” tentacles, the data can be (and has) been used to deny lines of credit/mortgages.

For the above reason, anyone I know with the means to seek treatment for the above disorders on a “self-pay” basis does so. Many I knew self-paid for their rx in cash at elite pharmacies – being careful to avoid any RX for “scheduled” (abusable) rx in their disease management.

Opening up the tracking to include non-abusable RX (including the “major tranquilizers”/anti-psychotic class – or even the antidepressants) allows tracking of patients with mood disorders (including depression and bipolar).

Though I see the national program just targets controlled substances, as it implemented state-by-state I wonder if any state will include “non-controlled” meds commonly used in psychiatry?

It’s my understanding that this payment is part pension and part disability – and are legitimate payments/benefits that he has earned through his military service.

But considering how much cash money his current spouse has; it would be nice if he donated that disability payment to a veterans nonprofit or simply renounced his claim on it because he does not need it.
