Presumed Republican presidential nominee John McCain will have plenty of surrogates at the state GOP convention this week, like former rival Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

But supporters of Ron Paul want to make the most of his Texas home turf to promote his message, too, before thousands of GOP activists attending the convention in Houston.

I just worry about the pardons. Only the prez can pardon. I’m thinking that if the prez is impeached, he loses that power, but I don’t claim to know for sure.

Two things keep running through my head… 1) accepting a pardon is equivalent to an admission of guilt, and, 2) Pardons don’t work at the Hague…! ;-)

I’m still unclear on what constraints, if any, are articulated here.

You’re right, the House draws up the ‘articles’ of impeachment, assemble the ‘prosecutors’ the House managers, and it goes to the Senate for the trial, with the Chief Supreme Justice presiding and then the Senate votes to convict… 67 votes are needed…!

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) — Gov. Ernie Fletcher on Monday granted blanket pardons to everyone who has been or might be charged in the investigation of personnel practices in his administration but said he would not pardon himself.

Fletcher said those who might have violated the law, which he admitted happened and blamed largely on “overeager young managers,” would face the penalties that could be imposed by two administrative agencies that are also investigating.

Flint is right about one thing big companies will pay the fines and keep polluting. This is why those Cap and Trade’ emissions schemes will not lower pollution first the companies will pay the fines.
Second they will cheat on their emissions, environmental monitoring of pollution is one of the first things a GOP President cuts when he gets into office.
As far as cars goes well if you really need a big Truck or SUV then it should be a Diesel they do a better job hauling heavy loads than gas engine cars. Nobody should be allowed to build cars that don’t get 40 MPG in America.
Yes we do have the technology. No it won’t cost jobs building big cars when gas is at $4 a gallon heading to $5 a gallon costs jobs. Will it cost tax payers money to help the big three car makers convert all their car factories into diesel or hybrid car factories yes.
But think of all that extra money Americans would save on gas going back into our economy.

Al Gore had this brilliant idea to get all the car companies together including Toyota, Honda etc and have them work together to build car with better MPG (miles per gallon). The big three American car makers insisted that no foreigners be allowed then they strung Gore around and did nothing.
Toyota and Honda however thought Al Gore and the big three car makers were serious so they made hybrid cars. Talk about getting hoisted by your own petard stupidity.
Imagine what kind of MPG we could get if Al tried again?
It is possible after all at least one of the big three and possibly all of them will soon need a government bailout.
So if they need tax payer cash then Obama will have a say in how they run things.
First thing he should do fire all top management. Second hire someone else people who want to go green, third give Al the Call!
