My other daughter got legally (state sanctioned) married by a judge in Santa Barbara and then religiously married (church sanctioned) by an Episcopal priest in Italy. That worked for us! I saw the judge recently and thanked her; she said, “The weddings, oh!, I just love the weddings.”

Back in the sixties and seventies, IIRC (fuck, yes, I was there), about half of my friends were ministers of something called “the church of univrsal life,” or something like that (yes, I was there).

The whole thing made a mockery of thinking of “marriage” as something more than a contract. Yes, there is something more, but let’s give it another name, e.g., “matrimony.” Or, let’s call the contract “matrimony,” and the interpersonal committment “marriage.” But for God’s sake, let’s stop conflating these two notions, and making each other miserable.

I’m sure that both Bill and Hillary are going through multiple stages of Kubler-Ross’s model for grief. I reckon that Bill will spend a bit more time with the Anger stage than will Hillary, but I’m confident that both of them will come through.

Hillary’s speech today was excellent. Perhaps the best composed and delivered of her entire campaign. But somehow, Democratic candidates have to get rid of their current crop of advisors. IMHO, Hillary was ill-served by the folks she selected.

I don’t recall much about the 60’s — I was so busy following rules and being a good girl that i kinda missed out on everything (except I DID know about racial problems but I kept my head down cuz I lived in Texas and I knew when to shut my face), but the marriages I’ve attended with variously ordained folks have been incredibly spiritual and serious…..I mean, think of it, would you rather have a priest or minister whom you don’t much care for (or maybe don’t know much) performing the ceremony or someone who knows you and loves you and will give credence to the love and intention you are celebrating?

I guess I’ve just been lucky. And the marriages I’ve seen are holding. Whereas, my own was a little tainted when the Catholic priest left the church to get married. Still, gotta say, he did a nice job with our wedding….nice words. Our marriage didn’t last either. A big whatever. I’ve been incredibly impressed with the alternatively ordained ministers I’ve observed. They seem to take it so seriously and bring real love to the occasion.

It’s no wonder the candidate starts blithering shit about “obliterating Iran” during multiple press appearances. What didn’t she get about the middle east, and why? (IMHO, it had to do with who her donors were, e.g., Haim Saban.)

The Cascades are awesome really awesome Range. A new volcanic uplift considered young geologically speaking. It is Basalt igneous rock. The range is unstable and will hurt a lot of folks someday. Very beautiful and well forrested with the huge rain and snows of 70 inches. The Willamette Valley runs North and South and it is a salmon run.
When it was spring break at U. of Oregon I drove East from Eugene over a loggers road to Mt. Jefferson to sping ski in the powder for two weeks. One day in a blizzard on the summit I thought I saw a lone wolf on a hunt. My girlfriend knew all the wildflowers by name. At the time it was one of the running centers of the sports world and we ran every day up the Buttes in Eugene. I would still be there but jobs were scarce in the 80’s and I had house paymentshad to find a job after graduating like kids today have to pstart paying those loans off. I hope Obama’s team will create a lot of jobs. I love Oregon.

I do some intervals now with Blackjack and he is amazing keeping up as I go 3/4 speed 100 meters today 12 of them he’s going on 15 so he started with me when I trianed for wildland fire fighting season. It weighs 35 lbs the rest of the crew was half my age. Then I took upweight lifting and bench pressed 369 pounds. No longer strong but have the heart. Spent it all on politics locally trying to get a fair sewer for the town which is got all icome levels now but they want to put in a sewer that costs #300.00 a month and that makes housing unaffordable any longer. Over 15,000 hours of meetings, federal lawsuits takes it out of you. All that war money down the drsin merans no help on that bill so us low income folks will be like the boll wevil “jus lookin for a home” as the cotton farmers say. If your better off than people you can’t quit on them.

I can’t tell from the comments at her site. I just hope those posts are not her real supporters, but some dasterdy deeds from Brooks Brother type agitaters.

I’ve written a piece about the campaign season. “How’d she lose to this guy?” is up over at Pajamas Media. It’s my impression of the entire campaign season. It includes an ending that I believe gives the bottom line of where we are today.

Hillary Clinton did what she needed today and then some. No reservations. No pauses. Complete commitment.

Hillary is a better candidate today and all I can do is dream about tomorrow. I stand by her today, tomorrow, anywhere, any time, any year. Today and tomorrow that requires me to do everything I can to defeat John McCain, and make sure Barack Obama is elected president in November. That’s exactly what I intend to do.
