Hmmmmm.
I’ll let some one else have it!
hey dearie and ct
EPU’d
’m pretty sure that someone with a designation from an internet ‘church’ (Universal Life?) can perform a ceremony.
I wonder if ya still can do that?
I’d love to be The Reverend jayt!
I haven’t heard that it’s no longer viable. My daughter got married in Oregon with a dear friend of ours from Chicago who got ‘ordained.’ Another wonderful young woman had her brother get his credentials to marry her and her husband in CA. Go for it!
prozac makes me stay
Suzanne!
g’evening, FirePups!
CTuttle, congrats on your earlier hat trick!!! *g*
Dugg
thanks nahant
My other daughter got legally (state sanctioned) married by a judge in Santa Barbara and then religiously married (church sanctioned) by an Episcopal priest in Italy. That worked for us! I saw the judge recently and thanked her; she said, “The weddings, oh!, I just love the weddings.”
Thanks, ndfg! Gotta run making mexican tonite…!
“By the power vested in me by the State of California….” What’s stopping anyone now?!
in spite of ourself
Hey Firepups! Sweltering day moved into night breezes and quarter-moon light. Lovely dinner with friends on the porch. Found this morning’s “Pull up a Chair” had great ideas for energy saving. Love Christy and this Saturday regular thread.
hey christine e
still a comfy 59 at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods.
boogie, tube snake style
I haven’t heard that it’s no longer viable…. Go for it!
(evil grin slowly spreading across face)
oh dear, that’s like a triple dog dare to jayt (laughing)
nothing like a challenge eh?
Hey, jayt: The recently Rev. Me just got ordained. I kinda like the spirit of the Universal Life Monastery. And, with the education I’ve received from my children about marriage, I’m ready and able to perform legal unions for those who qualify under the newly liberated California rulings. God is good. People are wonderful. Life is fun.
speaking of weddings…

G’nite, Firedoglake pups.
THIS was an awesome day in America!
g’nite siri
Back in the sixties and seventies, IIRC (fuck, yes, I was there), about half of my friends were ministers of something called “the church of univrsal life,” or something like that (yes, I was there).
The whole thing made a mockery of thinking of “marriage” as something more than a contract. Yes, there is something more, but let’s give it another name, e.g., “matrimony.” Or, let’s call the contract “matrimony,” and the interpersonal committment “marriage.” But for God’s sake, let’s stop conflating these two notions, and making each other miserable.
nite siri
she did right by Democrats, didn’t she…
I’ve already bookmarked this post so I won’t forget the name of the church. heh-heh.
i just want to say that i like the way the world has turned on its axis today……..
and how people are responding to it……
gives me hope that i may have much to look forward to that is not of my own making……..ready and open to be inspired.
suz you are the best form of womanhood. i am playing the judds in your honor right now.
nite.
I’m sure that both Bill and Hillary are going through multiple stages of Kubler-Ross’s model for grief. I reckon that Bill will spend a bit more time with the Anger stage than will Hillary, but I’m confident that both of them will come through.
Hillary’s speech today was excellent. Perhaps the best composed and delivered of her entire campaign. But somehow, Democratic candidates have to get rid of their current crop of advisors. IMHO, Hillary was ill-served by the folks she selected.
I don’t recall much about the 60’s — I was so busy following rules and being a good girl that i kinda missed out on everything (except I DID know about racial problems but I kept my head down cuz I lived in Texas and I knew when to shut my face), but the marriages I’ve attended with variously ordained folks have been incredibly spiritual and serious…..I mean, think of it, would you rather have a priest or minister whom you don’t much care for (or maybe don’t know much) performing the ceremony or someone who knows you and loves you and will give credence to the love and intention you are celebrating?
thanks and g’nite dmac
crawling king snake
We were yaking about that earlier - I’m of the belief that Hillary didn’t pick those guys, and we’re not likely see have anyone step up and lay claim.
Probably Ickes and Lanny the Terrible.
i’ve seen weddings performed by family ministers that sucked and great ones performed by an officiant - i think it really is a matter of the style of the person doing the uniting.
I’ve attended more than one marriage presided over by a friend (the then Dean of Arts) who who liked to arrive on his “hog,” a full-dress Harley Davidson. Colorful fellow, he!
jayt at 26 and others—-i would maybe marry you, but you would have to go to the doctor more often. lol…and i bet you don’t eat right, and you would have to eat healthy stuff if i was cookin’…….and indianapolis isn’t my dream place….been there a little, i got lost and i never get lost, so, i didn’t like it because of that, kindof a grudge thing…..have a friend in terre haute who is in charge of research for eli lily, closest i came to hangin’ in indiana, besides the little iddy biddy towns right over the border from ohio…..though nashville indiana in brown county is magic……you outta go there and hang out……..good for you.
just my way of remindin’ you to take care of yourself jayt.
nite………
Hey Suzanne,
Sexy silver sandals! Love the rhinestones!
Great vid!
I guess I’ve just been lucky. And the marriages I’ve seen are holding. Whereas, my own was a little tainted when the Catholic priest left the church to get married. Still, gotta say, he did a nice job with our wedding….nice words. Our marriage didn’t last either. A big whatever. I’ve been incredibly impressed with the alternatively ordained ministers I’ve observed. They seem to take it so seriously and bring real love to the occasion.
thanks.. me toes are still sparklin…
iirc, that is his last performance before his death.. i could be wrong on that
newt- on the other hand, uh, if she didn’t pick “those guys” then, like, she must have picked someone to pick them. Unless of course Hillary really had no say in her campaign, and, uh was just the “victim of circumstances”.
jen used an officiant who lead a wonderful, loving ceremony that brought two families together into one.
Marriage,
Meh.
Been there, done that, was lucky to escape with my own Tee shirt.
No thanks.
y’all can have at it all ya want though. To each their own.
I agree. The Clintons have some history with Penn, but it’s a long way from influence-peddler and all-around shit-bird lobbyist to campaign strategy consultant.
And I give Bill enough credit to think that he has a better sense of smell.
hey busted - been there, done that, aint going for a 3rd strike
Just because.
Oops!
I couldn’t get the cartoon to play and we all know about me and Kitties.
BWAAAAHAHAHAAAAAA
just because
Suzanne,
You must feel so wonderful to have this wedding over and successful. My Ms. CE was moved to NYC on the upper east side on the Saturday after her Friday graduation. What a labor of love after two years of graudate school. Hard to do all this long distance. Love Mr. CE — he is a master of the Penske Rental truck.
*g*
Groovy! Love this one :-)
nie dmac!
Stouffer’s frozen stuff - not healthy? Please - they have vegetables and everything.
doctor did tell me this week to knock off drinking full pots of coffee and to cut down on salt (because it can cause - yep - Swollen Ankles!)(and let that put to rest the pregnancy rumors).
I’m torn between making that advice next year’s New Year’s Resolution and finding a new doctor. heh.
Evening vg, was EPUed earlier. Thx for the link - frustrating situation.
I think I’m having one of those flash backs I was promised.
Like it’s about forking time!
Another just because
must be them pills you took
Just because…
(((((!!!)))))
There’s your salt right there.
And to think we threw you that shower for nuttin…
((((( wink! )))))
Full pots of coffee?
GAHHHH!
that stuff will eat yer guts out.
Hiya, pups!
The differences between Eureka/Arcata and Klamath Falls are beyond description. Politically, geographically, weather-wise. Saw Crater Lake for the first time today. That must have been one incredible mountain orgasm, eh?
?????
HI Sunny- didn’t know if you were still around or not- but I did catch your EPUed comment earlier. And, V = V if you get what I mean! LOL! I have been pushing, but to no avail.
Get a new doctor. The ‘rules’ on salt keep changing. Just like I didn’t give up white lipstick back in the day, I’m not giving up stuff that they can’t make up their minds about. 8 glasses of water a day….now thought to be too much of a good thing. I’ll just go with ‘everything in moderation’ = works well enough.
Sight seeing in Souther Oregon/ Northern Cali?
Cool.
song is ‘pills i took’ by hank iii
wangdang, which for some reason made me think of this one
And to think we threw you that shower for nuttin…
Thank-you notes. That’s what I’ve been forgetting…
that, and thinking about time and space as our society crumbles around us…
Ha!
Nah. After all, thingscomeundone left that puddle of puke (too much tequila) on your porch - no thanks necessary.
ET, just hold out for 1/20/2009. I’m holding out hope that things will start to get better.
Working yer way back North?
whats next on your itinerary?
et, how you liking the little rv you are using?
No. REALLY. Ha!
At the operational level: Penn. McCaliffe. Wolfson. Ickes. Davis. (I’ve seen too much of each of them for the campaign to be healthy — the candidate should have been front and center in the news.)
At the policy level: O’Hanlon, liberal hawk (foreign policy), Indyk, zionist (foreign policy), Gorelick, advisor to the Telecoms (domestic policy). It’s no wonder the candidate starts blithering shit about “obliterating Iran” during multiple press appearances. What didn’t she get about the middle east, and why? (IMHO, it had to do with who her donors were, e.g., Haim Saban.)
It is cute, and it is less ungainly than the bigger ones, but I still wish we’d opted for a prius and a tent…
Get a new doctor.
Yeah, that’s what I usually do. I’m lookin’ for one who embraces balls-to-the-wall hedonism as an A-Ok lifestyle…
jayt–eat greens once a day……rule.
just stuff handfuls in your mouth straight from the fridge first thing in the morning and it’s a done deal. don’t hafta worry about it the rest of the day.
stouffers green peppers and bob evans texas potatoes, once a week……
welsh rarebit with tomatoes and toast once, or twice, a week….
plenty of frozen dinners that are low on salt, plenty that are high, check the labels….but you gotta eat a green salad with them to keep your innards alive.
my sister lives on frozen dinners, healthy choice kinda things, look and see which ones you like…..and best friend even uses them, bertolli makes good ones. the pouch dinners in a bag.
need rice, need beans, you can buy pouches for that in the rice and dry mixes aisle. make a chicken breast to go with it.
you know what you have to do, just do it.
and my doc says no sugar, no wheat, no potatoes, no fruit juice-eat the fruit, no hydrologized oils. no msg, no artificial sweeteners…….i’m forgetting something.
you know what to do….fresh. i used to be a whole foods fresh foods freak, before there was a name for it…
enzymes break down, so if it isn’t a ’real’ food, then you shouldn’t eat it.
nite again, for real this time.
I can’t help myself.
i know my thought processes are twisted but that one surprised even me
I noticed a few “Icks” on that list.
Just sayin’.
Oh man, am I ever in a Beatles frame of mind right now…
shizz, no forking utube for little charlie & the nightcats great song - dont do it - very ontopic for you jayt
Portland tomorrow evening, via Bend. A couple of evenings with my brother there. Amtrak to Seattle. Visit my mom for a few days. Up to Bellingham for ETette’s college graduation. Back to Alaska to begin slaying Sean Parnell, teach summer school, and to write music to “As You Like It” for an October production.
Speaking of twisted, I’ve had nightmares lately about McCain picking Kay Bailey Retchison for VP.
Wow. First thing tomorrow I’m downloading current spam filters. Who knew?
wish you could have worked the bay area into your schedule but understrand. i’m still gonna make it up to your neck of the woods one day et
oh, and hey ET! hey Busted! luvs ya both.
thanks for the concern, really.
(sounds like a lot of trouble just for skinny ankles though)
136 years between them. Now that’s experience.
i knew i was gonna need to double the order of brain bleach. you know where the dispensers are wangdang - apply liberally
I’m not sure that I get your point I realize that Ickes has liberal credentials from the old days, but IMHO he was far too prominent for a well run campaign, and his behavior relative to the RBC was, from what I understand, an atrocity, in the sense that he had agreed to rules before the campaign started, whose enforcement against his boss he protested. (But perhaps I’ve gotten something wrong on that.)
Hiya sweetie.
My neck of the woods, give or take thirty or forty miles.
Mainlining now, thanks.
Speaking of twisted, I’ve had nightmares lately about McCain picking Kay Bailey Retchison for VP.
I’m still hoping he picks Bobby JindalWho? for Veep.
It’s horizontality time.
Nite all.
Discounting McAuliffe, who is simply a loon, a whole raft of Clinton supporters went way beyond the call, and well into deranged territory on the campaigns behalf.
I do feel bad for a few of them - some believed deeply in her.
‘nite jayt, stay dry.
Oh Busted- I just read your latest! I am in a cleaning out frame of mind too. But, as to one detail, srsly, you do have to get the famous equine cat brush to deal with the cat hair. Ask Kirk.
http://www.petvetsupply.com/grmhsun004.html
McAuliffe proved himself to be batshit crazy, no more so than Tuesday night when he introduced Sen. Clinton as the next POTUS.
After the dark rum or the light rum?
Oh, I was just thinking about that about fifteen minutes ago, seriously.
I am headed to the feed and Seed store ASAP.
that poor critter is one giant hairball and it would do her and me both wonders to get rid of as much of it as possible.
I didn’t forget!
I guessed that :-)
ET, will your trip through Bend take you by Black Butte Brewery?
And perchance are you headed to Portland via the gorgeous Hwy 20 to Sisters/ Hwy 22 to Detroit/Salem route? The Santiam Pass/river are one of the prettiest parts of the Oregon Cascades, IM besotted opinion…
and not too long ago, the forest defenders in the Detroit Ranger District were doing pretty good work, too… ;)
BTW, the more I look at Baby Girl, the more I am convinced she is Maine Coon.
See? God works in mysterious ways.
