Hey hi howdy Firepups! FiniFinito here on behalf of the NYC-traffic-jam-delayed Donita Sparks who is currently stuck in crosstown traffic (hence the Hendrix video above) as she prepares to begin her 2008 US Tour in Hoboken, NJ tonight at Maxwell’s, which I am told is one of the finer rock n roll establishments in an area full of them in the tri state area.
Donita will be by later to check in, so leave a message for her in comments, or of course feel free to hang out and chill for a while with us as we jam out to some tunes for a traffic jam that I picked out for us today! Enjoy!

Hey hey happy Friday everyone!
Donita and fini!
Yo fini!!
Hi eg and stuck Donita!
*waving to YoungJess!*
can’t wait to listen to the playlist, see ya all later :)
*Waving to Elliott* :)
hey eg! hey YJ! It’s just little ol me today, Donita is in a quagmire trying to get through the Lincoln Tunnel for the gig tonight in Hoboken.
Hey Elli!
Hello Fini, how are you?
Have a nice Friday, everyone.
Hello FiniFinito. I’m impressed you found so many topic related songs so fast. :-)
I am supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Say that three times fast!
Is that gnarls barkley at hyper speed or is it just me not being familiar with all their music?
Oh hell man, picking tunes is like breathing for me! It’s the old DJ instincts I think.
It is very hard to say a few times fast that’s for sure :D
Hoboken is such a sweet town. I love the burgers at Maxwell’s too.
Donita, so excited about the start of your tour. I would have gone for the roadie-of-the-day thing, but you’re playing my town on a school night, and there’s no way I could hang for a load-out.
Have a great time.
It’s my last Friday as an 11 year old…..Sunday is the day, I’m excited to be another year older :D
Woot! Happy birthday YJ! The big 12, how awesome. Keep on rockin’ it keeps you young forever.
Hey Donita, what does it take to get on your playlist? My band just finished a record and we sure could use the plug.
Pretty please with sugah on it?
Thanks :)
You know you’re young, when you’re still looking forward to your next birthday with pleasant anticipation.
Jess, are you serious? Sunday is your birthday?
Well, here are a few folks with whom you share the day:
Barbara Bush (the president’s mother)
Joan Rivers
Boz Scaggs
Sonia Braga
Nancy Sinatra
Kanye West
Me
No doubt. It’s not as thrilling an experience when your next birthday is 37 like mine is.
Ha, that’s cool we both have the same b-day!!
Well slap my ass and call me Sally! that’s cool you guys share a bithday like that. Happy Bday to you too!
Ah fini, you have to embrace the day and demand it be YOUR day, no matter how old you might be getting.
:})
OK, I have a question to pose for the audience assembled. What are you all doing for Father’s Day presents, and as a follow up to that, what kind of present do you get for the father of a new-ish baby? My roommates have a baby turning 1 this month.
I’m not sure what we’re getting my dad for father’s day…..probably go out to a resturant or somewhere most likely. And as for the other question, I’ve got no idea, sorry :(
My father is long deceased but I remember that his wish for Father’s Day (and my mother’s wish for Mother’s Day) was pretty much always the same thing:
Peace and Quiet
So I’d imagine, if you could give your housemates a respite from baby care for a day, that would be considered a wonderful gift.
How about a great picture of the baby (with Dad maybe) in a nice frame…???
Ding!
Somewhere John Sebastian weeps, I never thought “Summer In The City” could sound so bad.
The aptly named “Butthole Surfers”.
ygm @txwinet
I kinda liked their version actually. It had some punkish flair I thought.
Happy Birthday Young Jess!
Long time no see folks, life gets in the way sometimes, work seems to do it ALL the time lately especially Friday’s around 3 in the afternoon fer some reason.
Good Luck Donita!!
I am anxiously awaiting the Left Coast leg of your tour!
Thanks Busted :)
:)
Hey BK, welcome back!
Gotcha. It’s on the way.
I guess I’ll post the first Youtube vid of the night here in Comments :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvdPVlBYDNg
Fini Fini!
Good to see ya.
I gotta get back to it but at least wanted to say howdy.
Great song. Did you ever hear the Dolores O’Riordan solo album released last year? It was pretty phenom.
Different strokes fer different folks (hat tip to Sly).
I haven’t heard it yet, but I would love to sometime soon :)
Here is the video for When We Were Young, a pretty great song from that record: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO5eDyirRA4

Cool! (email still hasn’t shown up)
I just replied to one you sent me before. It’s coming…now. *g*
My roommates have a baby turning 1 this month.
hey, I *know* that baby. Hiya Fini. Long time – my bad – long sick winter.
Did someone mention Dolores O’Riordan? *sigh* Never writes, never calls – I think she’s playing hard to get.
Got it, stay tuned…
Ooooh I like this song :)
D’Oh….I forgot to put .com on the first one…idjiot me.
Holy cow man! I thought you dropped off the face of the earth! Great to see you man, I still owe you many brews, call me this weekend!
I’m laughing with you, not at you!
Bwhahahahaha…
stuck in Traffic? Visit the Shanghai Noodle Factory
Steve Winwood has always had some monster chops.
call me this weekend!
roger that – and I *was* off the face of the earth for several extended periods as my stomach staged its own private rebellion. I think I’ve got the bugger on the run (ooh, bad pun) now – all’s well.
I just thought of something….with all the songs about being stuck somewhere being discussed tonight, I’m surprised no one has mentioned “Stuck Here Again” yet ;)
Love Traffic…;)
Ouch, sorry to hear that man, I am glad all is well now. So I guess we wont be eating at the Indian restaurants?
Hello to all! o/
Hey, Young Jess! Well reminded! This music is more than suitable to the situation of being stuck somewhere, mainly in the traffic! xD
So I guess we wont be eating at the Indian restaurants?
Ssshhhhhhhh – my stomach may be listening. Talk to ya soon.
Just glad to hear you’re back in (mostly) fighting form again. Definitely get in touch with me though, there’s lots of good news to catch you up on.
Hey YoungJess,
Getting ready to go fix some food but wanted to tell you once more to enjoy your day Sunday.
I plan to do the same, as far as I can.
hey Fini – incoming – I’ve got tornado sirens again here downtown…..
It’s becoming a regular Friday night thing around here, fer chrissakes.
Thanks! You have a great day on Sunday too!! :)
Oh holy crap not again. I had quite an experience last Friday night. We got hit by that storm, tore the skirting off our trailer and blew over our stairs. It was quite the harrowing experience, I wrote about it on Blue Indiana if you want to read about it.
If I don’t succeed, it won’t be because I didn’t try. :})
Yikes! I’d be in the bathtub with the twin mattress over me
Stay safe!
this thread would be incomplete without Cars by Gary Numan
Oooh good call, nice save!
Sorry to hear you became victim of a disaster. Isn’t there anything that can be done to prevent this in the future apart from moving somewhere safer?
I was actually looking for “Drivin’” by Pearl Harbor & the Explosions, but no luck.
well, he could live in a Brick House
I went through almost the identical experience on 11/15/01 in TX. The tornado ripped the roof off my barn, and we were flooded waist deep and rescued by the fire department too.
I still dream about similar situations several times per week. Shudder.
Unfortunately no, not really. In fact, nowhere is safe if you listen to climatologists. Expect many more Katrina like events in the future, coming to a neighborhood near you.
I gotta be honest with you, since the storm, I have had some serious anxiety, especially since we have had so many storms pass through Indiana this week. We have a huge system bearing down on us right now and I am already getting nervous with it 25 miles away. Here’s hoping tonight doesn’t freak me out too much!
Take care of yourself. It takes a long, long time to recover from that type of fright. I’m enjoying the play list, thanks.
I hear you. Boy do I hear you….I’m still the same way…I’m hyper-vigilant about weather. When you live the reality of it…it is a perfectly reasonable response to be afraid of it….I still get panic attacks. Go to a safe place…get out of the trailer if it comes close or you are in doubt.
New Christy
We may go to the bar on the corner to hide out for the evening, but I am waiting on a roommate to get back to the trailer. I am gonna sign off for now though, I will drop into comments later if able to and give folks an all clear if all is well.
Bye Fini!! Have a good night!!
Hey fini, keep us posted, we’ll be thinking about you!
