Falsifying data on fiscal aggregates is much more dfficult.. There will be heck to pay if they get doing it though, and the entire Wall Street community will go apeshite that’ll make all other public outcries over shrubscandals look like childsplay. Economic confidence in the system would collapse. In short, the ensuing scandal would be our Smoot-Hawley act, leading directly to a reprise of the the early 1930s.
