In reality, the story is a bit bigger than the tale of a couple of traditional lefty bogeymen:
Voter excitement, always up before a presidential election, is pushing registration through the roof this year — with more than 3.5 million people rushing to join in the historic balloting, according to an Associated Press survey.
Registration seems to be up strongly among black and women voters, according to the AP survey.
Figures are up for blacks, women and young people. Rural and city, South and North.
Overall, AP found that nearly one in 65 adult Americans signed up to vote in just the first three months of the year. And in the 21 states that were able to provide comparable data, new registrations have soared about 64 percent from the same three months in the 2004 campaign.

But can they afford to allow an election that will take them out of power? I still can’t conceive of their allowing this to happen. They have crippled and ended the GOP brand with any but out right crooks in our land. They have 35% of the electorate, and have won elections due to the supreme court being corrupt as it can be.
I still can’t fathom how they will allow an election. Another war now that they have fired all generals and admirals that oppose it, yes. But if they aren’t in power, they will be in jail. Do you see these people giving up power without a fight to the death? I can’t find room for that scenario in logical contemplation.
Crazy Karl can sip his milk in one of those high fashioned gated communities, where they have guards being paid to keep the bad people INSIDE. As shrewd and clever as he is portrayed to be, he suffers from a character defect common in Texans. He has a big mouth and he cannot ever resist a chance to toot his own horn. That will come back to bite him in the not to distant future. Isn’t is against the law for a political hack to fire a US Attorney? Let’s look at this from the other end of the telescope: If Obama can’t count on his voter registrations, then who are all of those people who have given him zillions of individual contributions? Huh? Rove is running out of lines..

That 3.5 million is peanuts compared to what we will register in the coming months. It already has begun. As I canvassed after the registration deadline there were hundreds of unregistered citizens that were kicking themselves for missing out. Uncle Karl and the entire cast of fiends can sit and witness their entire empire blasted straight to hell. Missouri, Virginia, and Indiana will turn blue.

I also have to laugh at Rove’s continued “voter fraud” diatribe considering that he pretty much committed fraud himself back in 2002 with that Texas voter registration. (He lived in DC but claimed that his residence was a cottage in TX).

The last 12 years of my life have been dedicated to promoting low cost housing. Nice job pointing to the challenges facing homeless folks that want to get upward bound economically and socially.
Almost 50% are mothers with children, And battered by ex’s and the brutal environment they live in they become traumatized and need couseling which our county just cut in the latest budget crunch.
The Non Profit housing industry has a lock and are limited in creating housing by financial, political and planning constraints.
We do not have to tolerate these conditions but must INSIST on solving the problem by the creation of low cost housing above the objections of the NIMBYs (not in my back yard. Iraq veterans organizations face this problem.
We have been tolerating this like we have tolerated rascism and abject poverty. Jus Cogens applies here. We all have the right to food shelter and clothing as Mazlow describe4d in his hierarchy of needs.
We would be shocked at animal abuse and cruelty yet we all turn away from our own kind…the excuses are wide ranging and sometimes subtle.
The budget for HUD’s section * program, designed to assist these folks, has been cut by the Clinton’s with “welfare to work” and them by Bush by a whoppiong $60 billion dollars while giving massive corporate welfare to farmers, oil companies and crooked banks on Wall street to bail them out with that money and is why these homeless people are depived of being the best that they can be. A roof, shower, a refridgerator, a phone to get it together.
For Walmart to enjoy your friends labors while he is homeless is despicable. All these low wage corporation have an obligation to contribute the the creation of the housing that matches the demand they have created. The “Service Economy” that has been created by “Big Corporation” has grown this sector of our population exacerbating the problem. http://www.clih.net and http://www.nlihc.org/oor/oor2006/ who has been working to eliminate this scourge since 1974.

Can we all see the giant train wreck on Election Day coming? Deliberate voter suppression or poorly-planned precinct provisioning (say that four times fast) will result in HUGE lines on Election Day, and many voters being disenfranchised.
Is there any way to get out in front of this?
I’d like to see the length of the voting period extended across multiple days, personally. That OUGHT to be doable, logistically, but of course politically it’s a non-starter.
But I’m really dreading the idea of thousands of Obama voters being denied the ability to vote due to a lack of voting equipment or a lack of time to process all the voters.

One of the good things about this place is the ability to agree to disagree in a civilized fashion, as I must do now.
A post congratulating Sen. Obama does nothing to diminish the liberal/progressive cause, nor take time away from other pressing liberal issues.
His candidacy speaks volumes about how far we’ve come as a nation and, as our standard bearer going into the fall elections, deserves more respect than a stifled yawn and an immediate look into Sen. Clinton’s VP chances.
To say that one post acknowledging the significance of the first African American to secure a major party’s presidential candidacy will only “invite more divisiveness” doesn’t speak well at all of those that would feel that way.
Besides, as I’ve pointed out before, if Sen. Clinton had won there’s no doubt in my mind I wouldn’t be able to find my keyboard for all the confetti that would be flying — and deservedly so — at FDL these days.
God help for defending Rover, but I’ve got to.
Legally, domicile is a matter of intent. If Rover intended to return to Texas after leaving D.C. (and if I remember correctly he did return to Texas), then he didn’t commit fraud by maintaining his Texas registration. You don’t even have to own property to maintain registration, although it’s much easier to maintain when you do own property.

I might agree with Boo except for the fact that there has been two posts regarding Clinton and/or her supporters post primary. These posts examined what Hillary wanted or dealt with her supporters (which is perfectly fine) but nothing to congratulate the nominee. Just seems unbalanced.

I am livid that Brooks was allowed to get away with shaving as close as one can come to outright lying, without being called out for it. He did it his usual way, by choosing his words ever so carefully & playing concern-troll.
I can’t remember the exact wording, so what follows is paraphrasing him:
Brooks: ‘Obama may have a hard time campaigning nationally because people don’t really know him, and he really doesn’t have much of a performance record by which to rate how he would do as President. The average voter only knows essentially that he’s black and that he is Muslim.’
That made my blood boil. David has that effect on me anyway. But the lack of followup by either Mark Shields or Gwen Ifle to correct the

Not so. Rove’s primary residence is in DC. He also bought/built one in Rosemary Beach, FL in a coastal retirement community.
At the time the voting thing went down, Karl was receiving a “Homestead” deduction on his DC property. The Homestead deduction is only available to registered DC voters.
Karl claimed it was a paperwork mistake with the DC tax office, which is always possible but unlikely considering you have to make application for the credit at time of closing.
What a dodgy arrangement down there in Texas… I guess anyone in this country could register to vote there even if they didn’t live there ever.
