I think this may be the Obama campaign’s first attack on McCain since their guy became the presumptive Democratic nominee, and it’s a good one. Via e-mail from the Obama campaign:
During a press conference today in Louisiana, Senator McCain was asked why he twice voted against creating a commission to investigate the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. McCain responded, "I have supported every investigation and ways of finding out what caused the tragedy." However, Senator McCain has voted against such measures on multiple occasions. In response, Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan issued the following statement:
"Whether he simply wasn’t aware of his voting record again or he was intentionally misleading the people of Louisiana, John McCain certainly isn’t offering us ‘leadership you can believe in.’"
(…)
McCain Repeatedly Voted Against Establishing A Commission To Study The Response To Hurricane Katrina. In 2005 and 2006, McCain voted against proposals to establish a Congressional commission to examine the Federal, State, and local government response to Hurricane Katrina in U.S. Gulf Region. Both proposals were sponsored by Senator Clinton. [S. Amdt. 2716, Senate Vote 6, 2/2/06; S. Amdt. 1660, Senate Vote 229, 9/14/05]
Why is this significant? Because it simultaneously attacks the empty core of McCain’s brand, the phony Straight-Talking Maverick persona that the media helped him create. Instead of being an independent and honorable crusader who seeks truth & justice regardless of political affiliation, McCain covered Bush’s ass, and then lied about it. Obama busted him, and essentially said that John McCain cannot be trusted.
This is huge, because if Obama can take away McCain’s reputation for honesty and political independence (kind of an automatic two-fer when all his claims of independence are lies), all he has left is his temper, his desire to keep us in Iraq until the year Infinity Times A Kajillion, and his ginormous stable of lobbyists. His campaign depends on voters saying, "Well, I don’t really agree with anything he says, but I totally trust him." If Obama exposes him as a mendacious tool, those gut-feeling trust votes go away.
Better yet, McCain has already demonstrated a very thin skin when it comes to accusations that he’ll be Dubya Two. Remember what he said in his undead appearance in un-New Orleans:
You will hear from my opponent’s campaign in every speech, every interview, every press release that I’m running for President Bush’s third term. You will hear every policy of the President described as the Bush-McCain policy. Why does Senator Obama believe it’s so important to repeat that idea over and over again? Because he knows it’s very difficult to get Americans to believe something they know is false. So he tries to drum it into your minds by constantly repeating it rather than debate honestly the very different directions he and I would take the country.
He sounds pretty nervous about that line of attack, doesn’t he? Again, tying McCain closely to Dubya destroys his claims of independence, plus it… ties McCain closely to Dubya. If Obama keeps at it, I think he’ll eventually be rewarded with McCain totally flipping his shit on national TV. Not to mention more and more voters asking themselves why they would want four more years of corruption, war, and economic instability.
I’d also like to see Obama demolish the myth that McCain is some kind of Serious Foreign Policy Expert. He should jump all over every al-Qaeda-is-helping-Iran moment. He should point out how ironic it is that for all the chest-thumping about how Obama never served in the military, never went to Iraq, never talked to Petraeus, McCain is the one who still doesn’t know the difference between Shia and Sunni.
Kerry didn’t attack Dubya’s phony strengths head-on, and lost an election he should have won easily. It looks like Obama doesn’t plan to make the same mistake.

hell yes
And notice that the Obama statement gives Clinton credit for sponsoring the legislation that McCain twice opposed. That too was deliberate.
I’m really glad to see this. For a while it seemed like people around here were focused on the “POW Trurncoat”, bad pilot and lousy student crap that would lead nowhere. As I, and many others here have said, there is plenty of substance to go after him on.
heya, Eli!
It also praises an action by Sen. Clinton (sponsoring a proposal to investigate Katrina), which is a very wise thing for the Obama campaign to do. We need everyone.
Sorry, Scarecrow, your comment sneaked in while I was writing mine.
Yeah, I did notice that. It would have been very easy to leave that out, and it was very classy to put that in.
Heya, Teddy!
Yeah, I loved that part. He’s already doing what he needs to do to attract the Clinton voters!
I knew he could do it – and he will.
Go Obama!
“Why is this significant? Because it simultaneously attacks the empty core of McCain’s brand, the phony Straight-Talking Maverick persona that the media helped him create. Good News a quick attack after a GOP lie
“John McCain certainly isn’t offering us ‘leadership you can believe in.’”
Obama is one step from calling McCain a liar outright hopefully this will get some press.
lol, great graphic!
Doesn’t get much closer than having his nose up Bu’ush’s ass on every issue.
and a nice touch.
Bob in HI
I liked the phrasing. Basically, “We don’t know if McCain lied or just forgot, but the bottom line is that you can’t trust him.”
Me personally, I went with lied – someone in his campaign should be vetting statements like that, right?
Obama meeting with HRC this evening at her home…per MSNBC
HonorPrinciplesNuthin’ left but warmongering and anger.
Lotsa anger, I believe, when his
honorandprinciplesare challenged.“Less Jobs — More War!”
i saw that also as a way to counteract lieberman’s not so subtle rhetoric today welcoming hillary’s female supporters over to mccain’s side.
Eli!
We can’t write McCain off; but gee, it seems almost too easy.
McCain is a loser to his own blind rage amibition. And he’ll do whatever it takes to get what he wants for himself. And he wants this Presidency.
He’s not gonna get it.
BREAKING: Obama is meeting with Clinton in Clinton’s DC home.
MSNBC
Does McCain know where he stands today?
Good time for a Maverick moment.
Right on!
It is a proven fact that saying things over and over actually works.
It’s nice this time that it is the actual truth as well!
Since Obama seems to be letting people know who’s the boss today, will it spur the Dems in Congress to step and help straighten things out? I hope so. Wonder if he could re-set Nancy’s table just a little.
Evening Eli;
Eli, you didn’t mention the bouquet thrown, graciously, to Clinton and her supporters, “Both Proposals were sponsored by Senator Clinton …”
Obama is way smooth and not at all shy about taking it to McSame …
I suspect we have a winner, here.
Obama is gonna push McCain’s buttons bigtime.
I have a lot of confidence about it. Also, he brings up in his speeches what the media doesn’t report. That’s a good way to get around the free pass McBush clearly has.
I really think that’s a big part of McCain’s strategy. He knows there’s a rift, and he’s going to do everything he can to exploit it. I’m hoping that he’s so hamfisted about it (what are the odds?) that Hillary’s supporters become outraged and insulted that he’s trying to play them so obviously.
“Lied or just forgot?” tees up Brit Hume at Fox News for yet another discussion of Old Lord McCain having a senior moment, which he apparently thinks is a swell excuse for confusing Shia and Sunni.
Did I hear correctly that Murdoch has fired Roger Ailes?
And it’s stuff that people who watch the boob tube can see and hear for themselves. They don’t have to take Obama’s word for it, it’s in their face.
Methinks Obama has surrounded himself with some really sharp folks.
Normally, I’d say “great minds . . .” but I don’t have a brain. I think the point is everyone will notice, and as you say, that’s good.
Exactly it. Poses a lose/lose for McSame. Either your a liar or senile.
I like the aggressive and specific and straighforward and prompt Obama approach to responding to McSame BS.
I hope they follow up. McSame is weaseling on this. He supported the Homeland Security investigation, so is now using that support as his shield, saying that calling him on his bogus claim is nitpicking. It’s the same strategy as he used about his 100 or 1000 or 10000 year Iraq war nonsense.
But he did say that he supported *every* investigation.
And surely the public will believe that a Cheney-Bush run Homeland Security Department investigation would have been very competent and trustworthy!
I hope Obama dogs McCain on this Big Lie.
I hope McCain keeps sticking is foot in his mouth. He not only lies, but lies in very conveniently specific and easily refutable ways. I hope McSame keeps it up.
NO MCLAME MCSAME EXENSION of CHENEY-BUSH!
I just couldn’t figure out a way to work it in, plus my main focus was on how Obama was attacking McCain.
I also couldn’t find a way to work in a snarky line about how McCain knows from personal experience how hard it is to make something sound true just by repeating it – i.e., Iran ♥ al-Qaeda.
When the Army Corps of Engineers solicited bids for drainage pumps for New Orleans, “it copied the specifications — typos and all — from the catalog of the manufacturer that ultimately won the $32 million contract.” That manufacturer: MWI. “MWI employed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, President George W. Bush’s brother, to market its pumps during the 1980s, and top MWI officials have been major contributors to the Republican Party.”
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/…..en-rigged/
Here is why McCain voted against any investigation of Katrina he was protecting Bush’s brother, And Mccain wonders why Obama keeps linking McCain to Bush.
I hope McCain got a taste at least Illinois voters do not respect Politicians who do freebies:)
Strap it on. The repubs may have just offered McCain up as a patsy so they can unload on Barak asap after he wins.
Love it!
But one small problem – it says 59 lobbyists. Clean Campaigns just delivered 114 lobby-pops to McCain’s campaign headquarters – one for each lobbyist on his staff – and that’s after he already got rid of five!!
And it seems that if a candidate is having “senior moments” day in and day out, eventually folks would recognize that it’s just more than a trend but more like a life-style.
Senior moments are fine for us oldsters – but not while running the country or driving a car.
Can we agree on something for a minute?
Is Barack Obama the best daddy in the world? I think so!

Reminder: I want to be the official “Auntie Kay” when the Obama girl’s move into the White House. I’ll share Auntie positions with the rest of you, of course. You might have to arm wrestle me though. ;-)
No, I think their plan has always been to win. Trying to destroy President Obama would just be their consolation prize.
Yes better to lead with lie than forgot sure lie is normally more polite but given McCain’s age we might be accused of Ageism.
Be very clear wit dat “Obama girls”!
Pollyana :)
Barack Obama is meeting with Hillary Clinton at her home in DC. What does it mean? Please gawd don’t allow Barack to choose her as VP!
But the real question is whether or not Obama can make great BBQ ribs for the press.
Don’tcha know.
If he says something untrue, those are pretty much the only two options. And since McCain is scrupulously honest, I guess his brain must be a sieve.
Me personally, I went with lied – someone in his campaign should be vetting statements like that, right?
Unless Mark Penn has a new job?
Ageism is when it not true about a person. McC is not just old – he’s out of it and therefore dangerous.
OT but stop over to Scott Horton’s place and read his post. More things falling of the Table For DOJ and BushCo.
Oh yes, I want to be Auntie to the older buxom Obama Girls! *bonking you on the head Rave* LOL What the heck! Get your mind out of the gutter or you’re going to your room. ;-)
Clearly, Obama girls are not the same as Obama Girl.
Let’s keep our nomenclature straight.
The Youtube Obama Girl was what prompted me to investigate this Obama person initially. I found her analysis compelling. I hope there is nothing wrong with that!
that,
and he should be judged on the content of his character.
yo, I’m only da piano player
Obama Girl
It’s better than beer.
What why has Satan a new favorite?
I think so, too, especially compared with all the pratfalls coming out of the Clinton campaign.
Bob in HI
Ok, the primary is over, it’s called a joke.
OT
Scarecrow, what do you know about this?
It would be very disrespectful to the VP selection panel he announced yesterday to pick a VP now. He’s made it clear there’s a long process involved. This sounds like a courtesy visit.
Obama said on the plane today to reporters that he’d said all he’s going to say about the VP until he actually announces who it is. I think that will be some time off.
Yes there never has been an attack and will take everything they have to beat Mc Crazy and the voting machines.
jo6pac
Which is indirectly why my girlfriend wants to vote for Gravel…
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TI6PA4v6dZg
He didn’t just say it, he was very clear. Chill with it, it ain’t happenin. (this is not directed at you Teddy)
I agree, but we know how the Clintons are. Are they luring him there? Good gawd please! Someone! Make sure he’s okay!!!!
If he holds a press conference tomorrow with a black eye and announces he’s choosing her, I’m not going to be happy. ;-)
Yep. And let us not forget that he’s no slouch in the brains department himself. Won’t that be a refreshing change?!
Figured as much.
But your second line; ‘twould seem that karma shall come home to McCaint, again and again as time reveals his barren soul … there the truth lies.
Nice video. LOL I’m sure she already has an Auntie. Obama’s LITTLE GIRLS need another one. I’m sure of it. ;-)
Aloha, Eli! I’m taking a small break from drafting my latest post on how Darth and Shrub lied us into Iraq!
via email moments ago from The Doctor:
Clear sentences, explicit policies, and I’ll bet he can pronounce nuclear !
Shit, at this point I’d take somebody who could just read and write.
lol, yeah!!! Go Gravel!!!!
Aloha, CTut!
That can only be good for Republicans. And McCain.
They are NOT the McGreevey’s!
I think those two pictures of Obama and his kids get around, he’s a lock in the election. Not even Russert or Matthews can put a dent in that.
Action bumper cars pics with the kids! Regular guy all the way.
Get those pictures out to every whistle stop and wire service in the country, right now!
Commenter ET met Gravel and says he is a complete wa…um…not altogether there. Please don’t waste a Pennsylvania vote, we need you guys.
Eli’s is even funnier. Do you recall that she didn’t even vote in the primary because she was, like, busy.
refreshing as a spring fed waterfall.
I’ve seen a bunch of ‘em since his first, and it’s amazing how comfortable (and hilarious) he is now.
She’s an SC vote. If SC’s in play, McCain is already toast.
But, of course! Anything to bolster McInsane’s chances…! ;-)
It feels somehow appropriate that I was in Hawaii, state of Obama’s birth, when he clinched.
And so far, he’s shown he knows not only how to run but how to win, for which, in part, we should thank Hillary…
Stop it!!!! LOL
I have to say that the Gravel vids, imho, were the best of the season.
Well, you know, other than Obama Girl.
I thought you would say, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Uh-oh, you were here and didn’t give me a holler…? 8-(
Do you think Bob Barr’s name recognition might slop over into a neighboring state as an option for disaffected Republicans? There’s chatter that he may hurt McSame here in Georgia…
I sure hope so. The more damage he can do, the better. If he can pick up some of the fundie vote, McCain’s going to have serious problems.
Well, you’re in luck – here’s one with Gravel AND Obama Girl!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI6PA4v6dZg
Hell, half those goobers in South Carolina probably still believe the push polls from 2000.
Good early move.
Lest anyone forget, emergency preparedness and response are national security issues.
(Actually, the “Mountain West” might be where Barr is the biggest problem, since they’re trending purple *and* have a significant libertarian population)
that would be excellent.
The Red Nader.
Think I read some place today that the polls say Barr will pull 8% of the McC vote in Ga.
Talk Barr up wherever you go that like-minded peoples are, please.
Surely the Georgia GOPs aren’t McCainiacs?
if Obama can take away McCain’s reputation for honesty and political independence (kind of an automatic two-fer when all his claims of independence are lies)
Two-fers! Or is it toofers?
Phones are now closed at chez jayt.
Hiya Eli!
I’m not so sure, that idiot Zell is still afoot and they’ll listen to him.
Hiya, jayt!
Yup. I see Barr pulling a bunch of Republicans and the Lou Dobbs people.
and perhaps the Ron Paulistas?
That would be sweet… I hope Barr pulls the same numbers as Perot did in scuttling Dole’s campaign…!
She’s an SC vote. If SC’s in play, McCain is already toast.
And Indiana is in play.
I think. Am I awake or dreaming? Indiana is in play? (a sentence never uttered in my presence in my lifetime)…
Maybe Barr will leave former co-speaker Ted Nugent behind for his campaign tours.
Nah. The Dems were worried about a floor fight at the convention – but actually the Rethugs are going to have an interesting time with Ron Paul. He and his supporters have already shut down three state conventions – the latest in Colorado.
Paul is still running. Definitely still running. All by himself. And his fan club is VERY loyal.
yeah, still cracks me up.
What are you hearing there? Would love to see Indiana go blue or even just purple.
and aren’t the Ron Paul People gonna make the Republican convention especially entertaining.
Seems to be a lot of that going around…
all aboard the Trite Squawk Express!
The Nuge, what a fucking moron.
((( Eli )))
Absolutely agree, Raven … let’s go after him on all current issues, he will get beaten on every point.
Barr/Paul ‘08!!!
They do have a knack for… well, maybe “showmanship” isn’t the exact right word, but they sure do make an impression.
I have been praying for that. If Barr taps into the fanatical dedication and fiscal generosity of the Paulistas, he could make a serious dent in McCain.
and you have to admire their tenacity.
I’d love to see the rumor that Ron Paul will join Barr’s ticket, it’d definitely peel enough votes to ensure an Obama victory…!
street theater is what we called it
Hey, ease up on the McSame criticisms. We need to make sure that the Republican convention actually nominates him! If Obama pounds him too hard, the Republicans are going to freak out, and nominate someone else who, like, is maybe of presidential timber (who do they have?)
Pounding on McSame could make the Republican convention into an actually interesting event…
Bob in HI
I think I could get behind that slogan ;)
What are you hearing there? Would love to see Indiana go blue or even just purple.
Well, I’m limited to just Indianapolis, and there’s a whole lot of country crackers out there who’ll vote Republican, against their interests, every single time. It’s a Family Tradition.
Indianapolis, and all of the “bigger” cities, all went for Obama on May 6 – Indianpolis 67-33%.
We’re at least purple at this point.
That’s some courtesy – winner calling on the loser. HRC looking high-maintenance and Barack appearing to walk his talk.
Makes one think he might not even require hundred per-cent concession on all issues as a precondition to engaging in diplomacy.
Not sure, actually. The most dedicated Republican I know is the lead audiologist where I work and he’s going to vote Obama because he’s come to the realization that the country can’t stand a third Bu’ush term. He’s damn near sworn me to secrecy, and tells me it’ll be the first time he’s ever voted for a Democrat. Admittedly, he’s not a native Georgian, but definitely a dedicated, if sane, Republican. I’ve been working on my boss for years (he’s a fiscal conservative and social progressive but has voted what he perceives to be his pocketbook) and he’s also voting Obama this year. I can’t, for the life of me, recall ever seeing a McCain sign anywhere. Romney, yes, Paul, yes, but no McCain. The vote out of places like Fort Stewart and Beaufort, SC (Beaufort’s got a Naval Hospital and is very near Parris Island) will be telling. I hear rumblings that LOTS of primary votes went to Paul… In the end I’m sure Georgia will totter into the McCain camp, but my guess is it’ll be a much closer thing than McSame’s people are anticipating.
Dammit Kay, we’ve already had this talk … you, Siri and I each get them for a day, then we let them choose which Uncle … er, Aunt they’d rather visit again … *g* … Yes Daddy, we know you’re da Presinent an’ all but Uncle Petro taught us to meditate while eating Ice Cream & Brownies for Breakfast … *g*
Ain’t gonna happen. My Paulista friends have no time for Barr.
Make sure you get all those nuns a photo ID before November!
Blue is quite possibly… The presidential polls show a tie, and in the Governor’s race pollster.com is showing Jill Long Thompson 49% Mitch Daniels 46%, directly after a contentious primary race for Thompson which she barely won.
No, I would be perfectly fine with the Republicans picking someone else. For one thing, I don’t think there are any Republicans the media love quite as much as they do McCain, although I’m sure they’re eager to learn.
For another, their voters would be as outraged and pissed off as we would have been if Hillary had won the nomination via superdelegates. Their candidate would not have had legitimacy, since they didn’t vote for him.
So said Chuck Todd on KO.
Typical McC – one of his advisors is Carly Fiorina who was canned as the CEO of Hewlett-Packard for bugging the phones of her own employees. What a joke.
Heh, I owe ya a coke, besides the hat tip for your links to the Phase 2 report…! ;-)
I’d love to see the rumor that Ron Paul will join Barr’s ticket,…
Starting a vicious rumor?
Count me in.
707! We’ve gotta try to get that name out into the larger world!
Make sure you get all those nuns a photo ID before November!
Sorry, but I’m still afraid of the nuns… (shudder).
DrinK Water!
After a long primary and Million$ spent on Romney’s Hair, their peeps chose McCain
as the pick of the litter … I think we’ll be okay.
As long as we can turn Indiana Blue without putting Evan Blah on the ticket, I’m all for it. But that would be too high a price to pay.
CTut, you instll linux on that other rig yet?
Can we settle on a beer? ;-)
She also caused the company to nosedive after the merger. After she left, HP started posting profits from the next quarter onwards.
If the GOPs have to defend Georgia and Mississippi, we’re golden.
Ugh, remember all the breathless talk about him as a potential nominee several years ago? What a disaster that would have been.
* bites tongue * sure!
Well, these aren’t the school-teacher types – they’re the cloistered – almost-never-seen-in-public kind. One is 98 and in a wheelchair. Not too dangerous. At least I don’t think so. Of course, she’s a terrorist by definition since she doesn’t have a photo ID.
I’m not that brave yet…!
I’m surprised they didn’t pull Rulers out of their sleeves and rap the knuckles of whoever stopped them
from voting …
So she’s Dubya with girl parts.
I don’t understand why Obama is expected to help Hillary clear her debt. She owes $30 million due to a poor campaign. I really want to know if that’s Obama’s problem and why he should use his money when he may and probably will need it in the general.
They couldn’t – it was another nun from the same cloister LOL
Um … I wouldn’t know about the ‘girl parts’ bit … *g*
We were watching, and when Keith introduced Chuck’s segment, I turned to Patrick and said, “He won’t mention Mississippi, I betcha.” My jaw dropped when he did.
As long as we can turn Indiana Blue without putting Evan Blah on the ticket, I’m all for it.
No reason to worry about that. He was a staunch HRC supporter, cock-sure of himself as *her* V.P. candidate. When HRC barely squeaked out of Indiana 51-49, Bayh was, and is, finished.
I feel just awful for him…
aw, com’on even fdl upgraded to linux ;)
Much to my surprise Musgrove in Mississippi is looking pretty strong. He’s a Dem but is very dim. I know him.
Just spent a couple of days with a nun who is such a Hillary fanatic that she swears she won’t vote for Barak. I worked on her, but she’s pissed at all the men who have “lorded over her” for her whole life.
The nuns especially will be a hard sell.
Aiieee … Kobayashi Maru …
She was on with Andrea Mitchell today — Carly’s got a “younger Liddy Dole” vibe going on, if that isn’t a ROTFLMAOxymoron.
Oh yea, and that’s been great!
He’s not. And actually it is not legal for him to use his campaign donations for anything other than his campaign.
That was a rumor floated a while back. It has happened in the past – but it is done through the ‘winner’ encouraging donors to give to the ‘loser’ and by facilitating fundraisers specifically for that purpose.
Barr is a really serious contenda to McLobby. He stands for that group that considers themselves the “real” Republicans, coupled with Lou Dobbs type populism, that hate special interests, and are anti-brown, and are not wealthy the way that McLame is.
The Neocons are despised by the “real” and the neo-populist Republicans.
The old-timey real Republicans are caught in there somewhere. They are conservative and believe in small government and states rights. They are the true minority in this election. They may actually not know where to go, because McLame is not their man.
Ding Dong.
I better leave that one alone.
I believe he actually took himself outta contention this round as well.
As if.
Oh, they have hard shells but once Hillary and Michelle go around talking to them, they’ll come around … that and showing them the male oppressors are those like Bush/McCain.
One thing that they may not have taken into consideration is the influx of new voters. Several of the black women I work with, who have not voted regularly (if at all), to say nothing of paying attention to politics, are suddenly excited and engaged. My assumption is that these folks are not unique. “Common knowledge” has it that the black community doesn’t really turn out to vote in this area. OOOPSIE, McSame… Savannah/Chatham County is approximately 50% black…
One is 98 and in a wheelchair.
I think I could take *her*….
As long as she isn’t hiding some antique hand-smacking ruler under all those robes (shudders again)…
Of course, she’s a terrorist by definition
I agree, because she’s a forkin’ nun!!
Dear Mrs. Pelosi,
Nancy, can I call you Nancy? After all you do work for me (and all those fine folks in CA who send you to Washington every couple of years) and of course, the American People. You are third in line to the presidency, and have been granted the status of “Leader” by our party after the almost historic mid-term upset elections in 2006.
Nancy, I need to ask you a very, very simple question. Why can’t we have an Impeachment hearing based on the lies that are now part of the public record as released by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence? We as Americans stood by and watched your Republican colleagues using the 70 million dollar Starr Report (and softcore porn expo) run an impeachment hearing that absorbed our nation and brought the Nation’s business to a virtual standstill. Bill Clinton’s alleged perfidy gripped us for months and years as pundits and congressmen alike screeched “Rule of Law” and “Liar”. Nancy, no one died when Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton had consensual, adult sexual relations in the People’s House on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Nancy, George Bush and Dick Cheney, manipulating the levers of power, secrecy, the media and trust of the American people have managed to kill over 4000 American men and women and leave tens of thousands with injuries that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Families have been destroyed by a war that was absolutely not necessary, and should never have been fought.
I do understand that you and many of your colleagues were afraid to stand up to the ruthless political “machine” that the Bush Administration built to destroy it’s enemies domestic and foreign; I understand it but can not forgive your lack of political or moral courage to stand against it. It seems to me, and many many other Americans that you were and are more interested in maintaining your personal power and position than in pursuing the truth.
We need to begin Impeachment, because the claims of Executive Privilege will not survive an Impeachment inquiry. With the revelations that this administration knowingly lied us into the deaths of the brave American men and women sent into harm’s way for purely political gain it is no longer acceptable to hear you and other Congressional Leaders say that Impeachment is “off the table”. It is important that accountability begin now, even knowing that George Bush may have to leave office before an inquiry or trial can be completed. Such work is important to allow ongoing investigations, and perhaps personal accountability even criminal prosecutions from such work.
It is important for us all, and our children as well. During the “Clinton Scandal” the right-wing Republicans were fond of saying with some mock horror in their voices “What will we tell the children?” about their president being a philandering, sexually active if unfaithful husband. Well, what will you tell the children of future generations when they are sent off to a war because you have created a precedent to not hold any future Constitutional Executive accountable for the lies of this President and administration?
With regards,
Jo Fish
a Democratic Veteran
LOL
hehe. well if its any comfort, my parents are just happy that the next Generalissimo of America is going to somebody their age. My mom even brought up Vince Foster.. the man Hillary must’ve murdered by her own hand. I think they were just trying to bait me into a debate, but still, I’m not making this stuff up. Perhaps I need therapy.
lol, well, it’s ok now, right? :)
Legally Obama cannot move more than $2000 from his campaign to HRC’s campaign. There cannot be a transfer of money in anyway beyond that dollar amount. It is against election law.
IF Obama does a fund raiser or something to help raise funds to retire her debt that is another story. Somehow I just don’t see it happening. It was HRC’s fiscal irresponsibility that racked up that debt…. and I think that she needs to learn from that lesson.
Go Jo Go ! Write it up so we can all sign on.
OT: They key is at the bottom of the article, but not explained.
Texas is suffering wholesale price “spikes” similar to those California had in 2000-2001, and it’s driving some poorly hedged wholesale suppliers towards bankruptcy.
Most end-use customers pay prices set by contracts with their chosen competitive retail suppliers, and it’s up the retail supplier to either produce the power (from its own powerplants) to meet the contracts or purchase the energy from the wholesale markets. If you’re purchasing, you either have long-run contracts with other suppliers with power plants, or you purchase from the spot market, which is operated by an entity called ERCOT — the system operator for most of Texas.
ERCOT’s spot markets have been producing spot prices at several hundred dollars per MWhr ($400/MWHr = $.40/kwh, and I think you currently pay about $.10 to $.15/kwh). These price “spikes” have been occurring hour after hour, day after day, just as they did during the California crisis.
So if you’re a retail supplier who must deliver to your customers for, say $.10/kwh (because that’s the contract price you agreed to), but you have to purchase the energy at $.40/kwh to cover your contract, you quickly go broke if you don’t have your own power plants. That’s what’s happening to several retail suppliers.
When one of these retail suppliers defaults, Texas rules require that the supply obligation gets transferred to a designated default supplier picked by the state — a supplier of last resort — who must cover the requirement. But of course, the default supplier has no more ability to buy at $.40 and sell at $.10 than the original retailer, so they’re looking at a systemic meltdown unless they can quickly drive down spot prices.
The Texas authorities laughed at California in 2000-2001, claiming they’d never make the same mistakes. Right.
We’re not sure what’s causing all of the sustained price spikes, but one major cause is extremely high fuel prices, especially for natural gas, which is at very high levels now. During peak demand periods, you have to run your oldest, least efficient gas-fired plants, which burn a lot of fuel, and the fuel is very expensive, and it’s these marginal plants that set the spot price => $400/MWHh. Think of it as having to drive a motor home that gets 5 miles/gallon when gasoline prices are $5/gallon.
Hear, hear.
But…but…it’s too late to set the table….
Pelosi adores W in a perverted sense.
He can’t “use his money.” He can only donate $2300 to her campaign, just like the rest of us. *g*
He can lend her his list (or do an ask to his list for her) but this idea that Obama can somehow zero her debt from his accounts is simply not true.
Pass it on.
If Obama runs in the general as well as he ran in the primary, John McCain is going to have one long hard slog ahead of him.
Not saying that the media won’t be doing there level best to dismember Obama, but Obama and his people know how to hit back quickly and effectively.
-G
Their…
One reason might that she is supposed to have something in the neighborhood of $26M or so in general election cash that she could probably get her contributors to re-direct to Obama.
Every time I see those words all I can think of is slavery.
Just heard a sound bite from Obama’s speech to 20,000 in Virginia. Held HRC up as a role model for his daughters. This guy is smoooooooth.
You might have a talk with her about that war and peace thing, the Thou Shalt Not Kill thing, and the love your enemies thing. Throw in about forgiveness too if you like.
Putting Bayh on the ticket will not be necessary. Indiana will be affected by the same issues as the other states that are magnified here: the poor economy, which is poorer here, and the war, in which Indiana has its largest contingent of troops involved since the war began.
Great idea! Where do I sign… (Please have a place for non-CA folks to add their voices…!)
Thanks for the letter. I would only add the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis and millions of internal and external refugees in that country.
“committing adultery” would be good too …
I guess the rise of Speaker Pelosi to the # 3 spot in the US government is chopped liver.
-G
So will what’s happening in Texas (what happened in CA years ago) start a domino effect across the country?
If so, we are all screwed.
BTW, I remember when .05/kwh was pricey. Things change.
Nice letter, JoF.
It’s not too late to set the table.
I think a landslide election this November might result in a quick impeachment in December, with a President Pelosi for only a coupla weeks. It would be a great way to ensure that Bush and Cheney don’t mess up the Obama Inauguration by their very presence!
did that. Didn’t matter.
And she was from Chicago’s south side—Obama country.
Obama can personally donate $2300 but the total amount that can be moved from his campaign is $2000. So even if he did it, it would be a total of $4300…
This is also an issue of the money that qualified for HRC’s general election fund cannot be applied to her primary debts.
Obama is not taking prisoners when it comes to the MSM and the Goopers. This is good. Onced the MSM realizes they can’t blackmail him, their bosses will have to make a choice whether to make nicey-nicey to him, or face consequences. I would not want to face those consequences.
My guess: Michelle is a killer. She understands the DC game perfectly, as we do. She knows what has to be done, and it will be done. The beauty of the Obama campaign is that it took an end run around the lobbies that fund politics in the US. It’s too late for Viacom et al to ante up. They are now playing catch-up, and it’s not a game they are used to.
Did you read that Jo ? There’s two of us ready to sign … stick it on DKos and you’ll prolly a coupla thousand signatures between the two blogs.
Could Dean/the Party bail her out if they wanted to?
McClatchy article from this morning on Clinton campaign funds
Here’s a couple of the pertinent paragraphs:
And Tues. night she was wearing a vibrant purple dress. Not dumb, she.
How do I do that? I’ll do it in a heartbeat.
Great letter! Unfortunately, for our country, I think it will be left to the ICC.
I defer to your expertise.
… and HI!
Thank heaven for that. It’s about fracking time we had a candidate who doesn’t let crap like “he says he invented the internet” or the Swiftboat thugs go unchallenged. I’m more delighted than I can say.
There are pretty strict laws on the transfer of money.
THE only thing is to do a fund raiser for her to retire her debt….. it is done all the time… a candidate plans an event asking donors to donate because there is X amount of debt… BUT $25 MILLION is quite a stretch…
Put it up on http://www.Care2.com the petition site too.
SEIU purple, it was.
Ask tw3k and others on this thread for their input.
She can also ask those donors who specified the general (about $26M iirc) to redesignate the funds to pay off her debt.
There’s also the “feed my sheep” thing, and the “what you do for the least of these” thing. I think even the nun who’s most pissed off at the “men who have pushed her around all her life” might succumb to those.
No. The Texas electricity market is separated from the rest of the US. Texas’ transmission system can be isolated from rest of the US, by design, to escape federal jurisidiction/regulation. And demand/supply conditions in other regions are not the same.
Easy for us to see.
But we are dealing with a population that elected Bush for TWO TERMS!!! Or a majority, or at least enough of a minority added to election-stealing. I will never overestimate the potential of deaf, dumb and blindness of the majority of Americans again.
And most members of the mainstream media who ignore life and death news events or cherry pick those titillating enough for their and the publics soooo short attention spans … as if at a SPORTING event, commenting from their ethics-free perches. What me? Just playing devil’s advocate. Yeah… don’t think so. Thin line between devil’s advocate and actual devil.
Dealing with a corporate owned mainstream media that has its marching orders to support the authoritarian status quo leader … the patriarchal faux-patriot … to keep the 1% fat cats in control, and the rest of us in free fall … and the rest of the world in free fall, not to mention!
I never made an online petition before!
There are plenty of sites tho. dKos sounds like a good idea too.
Well, if every individual Obama donor tossed in $5…
I agree with you Twain.
Wouldn’t seem proper for Obama to use the small chunks of money sent him by so many, so it would have to come from another source.
Perhaps HRC should just make a direct appeal to all democrats, small donors and huge donors, alike.
On the other hand, she gambled, and didn’t have the winning hand, should she be bailed out? Are there not perhaps other people, not so well-off as she and Bill, who might desperately need some help?
Should things be about the little people or the essentially, well-off.
Did I not read someplace that HRC thanked the Lord Himself for ‘rich people’, and included herself in that category?
Perhaps ’twas snark, and I failed to grasp it?
I know, I must be nice. Well I’m trying, but there is nice and then there is ‘too much’. I’m weary of ‘too much’.
Just an idle question, has such a thing ever been done before?
Look, there is no problem with throwing HRC well-deserved bouquets, but why should anyone pick up her tab?
The only person I’ve heard of who has someone to pick up their tab is John McCaint.
Bottom line: It would send the wrong message to everyone.
IIRC, most of her GE donors are already maxed out on the primary side of things
But not if they’ve maxed out in their primary giving, right? And isn’t that how money got donated for the general anyway, because the donor maxed out in their primary giving? So how would that money be able to retire primary debt?
Hell Yes Jofish!
Nancy needs to hear it. I’ll sign!
thanx for the explanation. So much to learn. So little time.
cut through that like butter.
Jo Fish, loved your letter. I agree with Petro that we should all sign on.
LS, I’m starting to think there is a plan. Hearings, reports, contempt, everything lining up perfectly. For an impeachment after the election.
Barack is running the show now.
I have decided the McCain does not have a strategy to win. He has a strategy for soemthing but winning isn’t it. However if all of those Repub donors want to dump their money down his rathole that is fine with me.
Barr’s name recognition in GA may be unique. He spent hours on the tube self-promoting when US Atty for N District. Was unusual (and unseemly) at the time.
As I understand it, Mark Penn is owed about 9 million. If it was me (her being a lawyer and all) I would tell Mr. Penn that he was in breach of contract since he was hired to get her elected and it was his dumb move not to plan on anything past Super Tuesday, and it was also his dumb idea to ignore all the ’small’ caucus states. Plus she had to fire him for conflict of interest.
That would reduce the debt by quite a bit. LOL!
If every Obama supporter helped Clinton pay off her debt – that would be a big gesture. i know i would kick in a good amount.
Everyone should be very careful with the electricity market. Here in Ca. it cost us millions and millions and a governor and we got Arnold. It was a disaster for our state and we have not recovered.
CAN they nominate someone else? And if they can, what have these interminable fucking primaries been about?
server hickups are becoming more regular than they used to be. I guess it’s time to contribute to the cause—haven’t done it in a while—loose change has gone to candidates and to the church.
OT a bit: Heard George Lakoff tonight. Asked about his take on McCain’s campaign. He said he’ll be attacked on his perceived strengths: maverickiness, honesty and strength. About strength, Lakoff said that Obama surrogates are sure to point to McSame’s military service records and medical records. He said he’d heard reports that McCain has been designated “unfit for command” owing to being unstable. Lakoff couched this as a rumor. In fact, Wiipedia says:
“Having been rehabilitated, by late 1974, McCain had his flight status reinstated,[55] and in 1976 he became commanding officer of a training squadron stationed in Florida.[55][57] He turned around an undistinguished unit and won the squadron its first Meritorious Unit Commendation.”
Not sure, but I hadn’t heard that. The crowd gasped and stirred. Lakoff was great, BTW.
Well, FWIW, the NY Times had an article the other day that Obama was starting to “court” HRC’s big fund raisers.
It’s nice that Obama can raise millions from small donations but I doubt if he can and is willing to rely only on small donations alone to fund his campaign.
An individual can donate $2300 in the primary and $2300 in the general. If someone had maxed out their primary money donation then any other funds would be moved to the general. Once the max of $4600 per individual was met then no more money could be donated to the campaign, it would need to be refunded.
McBush’s fund raisers for $25,000 are going to the RNC which funnels the money back to his campaign….. the Tom Delay money laundry system
I think it’s brewing for late summer/fall … hearings right up to the GE would be the Repubs’ worst nightmare … Obama would take all 50 states and Canada … *g*
I worry very much that McCaint knows he only needs to stay afloat until Cheney lets through an October surprise. Since Bush got elected after 9/11 happened on his watch, would the bounce accrue to McCaint in November?
Well, he was one of the leaders of the Clinton impeachment frenzy, so that may still have some play among the “holier than thou” disaffected Repubs…
precisely why I was asking.
If someone has over 100 million and loses or gambles away 20 million.. that leaves them with 80 MILLION DOLLARS.
Cry me a river of tears!
Me too. Let’s see if we get asked… Who knows, the Obama campaign may have folks reading this blog…!
Well, I’ve got those “Warning:mysql_affected ……………………..” thingies.
So, watch out for big waves, we may be swamped, afore long, comrades …
You horrible, horrible man … how ever will they afford that $90 Million Dollar Yacht … *g*
((( ES )))
I’m pretty sure the nun(s) already are sorta familiar with all the Bible Verses. Don’t you?
I think people who are hesitant to embrace Obama yet are in their own personal what’s that thingy between heaven and hell called because of emotional issues. A lot of people choose a candidate based on something other than a black and white (eh hem) list of what the candidate’s true agenda is or what their Experience proves.
I heard a lot of interview with voters over the last months where in all they could say was, Well, I really like her/him.
Just my 2 cents.
I do enjoy all the scriptural references though….:)
Here’s another…When you get to a town where they don’t want to listen or hear you, shake the dust off your sandals and move on.
I have realized over the last week that I am an addict – when the Lake isn’t here I don’t know what to do with myself. Help!
McCaint had a California fundraiser recently where the admission was over eighty thousand dollars: $80,000! Split among state, national, campaign, and a bunch of PACs, I presume. Hard to see how that isn’t illegal, but can you imagine the security at such an event?
Under the campaign finance laws, no candidate may finance their own campaign with more money than the legal limits established for everyone else. That’s why Clinton “loaned” the money to her campaign. I suppose theoretically, she could “loan” enough to pay the debts off – and then claim the loan as a bad debt. But I’m sure that would not be looked at kindly.
Of course, that’s IF the FEC ever gets back into existence and actually does its work.
I published it as a diary over at dKos…thanks for all your kind words.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.
My issue is that HRC campaign was flush with money. They used the OLD method of running a campaign, left a lot of venues without payment across the country….. from IA, CA and up to the current states…… they would plan the event….. have the venue “charge” them and never pay them….. heard that some are attempting to use collection agencies to collect money owed…
To me this is a major qualification for office. How does a candidate run their campaign, DO they pay their debts and treat the people at the venues… If HRC wanted to spend bocoo bucks on consultants, then it is HER issue.
He said he’d heard reports that McCain has been designated “unfit for command” owing to being unstable.
I’m thinking that might be a bit problematic for a would-be Commander-In-Chief…
IOKIYAR?
That was quite the dress.
Could be but an October surprise concerning Iraq or terrorism may have less effect since people are absorbed with teh econoy at the moment. Now if they got gas prices back down to $2.00 that might help McCain.
Try the gimp and make some McCain art! :D
LINKY
linky? Did you make a tip jar?
No doubt you are correct.
Mayhap those big donors would care to bail out HRC, as well as ‘help’ to fund the big campaign …
I dunno. I mean, we had a mentally unstable CinC for the past eight years, and that turned out all right…
ty
McCain was too senior to have a “fleet” squadron so he got the A-7 “replacement” ie “RAG” at NAS Cecil Field. That’s where I met him when I checked into Light Attack Wing One in 1977.
Oh, I’m sure that the nuns know their Scripture! It’s just that sometimes, even for folks who try to “live into the Word” their human frustrations can get in the way and a gentle reminder can be an eye-opener… And yes, they SHOULD shake the dust of McSame off their sandals.
Yes, Twain, I suspect we all must develop ‘back-up’ plans …
Xactly. I am somewhat less that heartbroken over this. She’s not a charity case yet.
Hello. My name is Marion, and I’m a lake swimmer…
No, I couldn’t get the link to work so Teddy did me a solid. Thanks, man.
Post a comment over there with the word “tip” in the title.
Spare Change?
Seeing as he seems to be having to hold them in private houses recently, my guess is you block off access to the gated community and presto, no worries… /snark
Well, I did read some other blogs – still love Jesus General. He suggested that Mrs. Lieberman is Lindsey Graham in drag. I laughed until I hurt.
Head over to the tree house when FDL is down…. but is like going back to the olden days….. no fancy tools, no new comment line….
Bring out the gimp!

A First Lady dress!
heh
indeed
Jo, go to the Care2 petition site, post the letter, and ask for say, 50,000 signatures on it. This site sends out a daily email on one petition each day for signatures – and when they reach the goal – they forward the petition or notify you that it has or something. They have over 9 million members (quite a mailing list!)
http://www.care2.com/
Yes, we all need eye openers from time to time. I was just wondering if quoting the scripture might come off as a little patronizing.
As to shaking the McCain dust off, yeah, for sure. Breaking up is hard to do.
Heh, heh…did Obama throw the press a red herring? Heh, heh….
Still waving HI from NYC….. tonight it was Greek food (yes again) at a place on 50th & 9th Ave….. called Uncle Nicks…. the owners are from Chania Crete (of course) ….. ate there the first time in 2004 …..
The whole “he said he heard reports” type of phrasing bothers me. It smacks of Swiftboats… Let someone step forward and give names and dates, or produce some sort of document. I’d be interested to see what some of our FDL vets have to say about this…
LINK, please!
I dunno. I mean, we had a mentally unstable CinC for the past eight years, and that turned out all right…
Yeah, but one (McSame) is certified – the other (Boosh) is merely certifiable…
Thanks, I’ll work on getting that set up too. It looks pretty cool.
lol
Let someone step forward and give names and dates, or produce some sort of document. I’d be interested to see what some of our FDL vets have to say about this…
sorry, I thought this was “vicious and unfounded rumors” night…
my bad.
I feel like such a fool for having forgotten that TRex would have a warm, safe place for us…
Loo Hoo… Teddy made me one. Here it is. It should work. It’s also in comment 241.
Heh, I just posted on the Phase 2 report…! 8-)
And a breakfast with the NYT provider. Kisses, Marion!
I’m on my way over!
I would hope the Obama camp would stay away from an issue like McSlime’s mental health back in the days after his release from the Hanoi Hilton. He undoubtedly was suffering from PTSD or something war/POW related.
It is still a stigma in this country to have a mental illness – no matter what the cause. It is a huge contributing factor to the large number of suicides among veterans – because even the act of asking for help is looked upon as a sign of weakness.
The last thing we need is for this to become a campaign issue in this manner – and I’m really sorry George Lakoff was the one to bring it up.
We know that modern Republican campaigns dwell heavily on national security issues. Their range of national security issues is conveniently limited, though.
I’ve mentioned that disaster preparedness and response are national security issues. Obama would do well to address them in a national security context, if he isn’t already. Health care should also be presented as a national security issue; it is.
Is it me or has someone opened a big, breezy window on the USofA? Inhale. Exhale.
My qualifications – I am a veteran. US Navy, 1969-1972.
Got it.
The Bush Administration failed us on 911. That would be the gop failed us on 911.
The issue of stability (not mental illness) have been brought up by many others…. Repug Senators who stated they didn’t want McBush’s finger on that big red button and on to fellow POW’s in the Hanoi Hilton….
We can ask Dr Kirk to define the differences BUT instability is very different from DSM rated mental illness.
Especially since what he says and does now provides lots to work with.
Well, I prolly wouldn’t quote scripture to nuns. (That way lies a potential rap on the knuckles!) I certainly WOULD suggest which candidate would be more likely to act to help the poor and downtrodden. I suppose that
confrontingtalking to nuns may be easier for those of us who have bunches of priests as friends and don’t let them get away with nonsense either! (We’ve got a friend who fairly regularly calls us from NYC to vet her sermons…)Right on! I would add education to that list as well.
Wasn’t it on Libermann’s plate to get to the bottom of the Katrina response?
I’d like Vice President Sheldon Whitehouse, Patriot.
(((Loo Hoo)))
I’m getting an error message (unresponsive script) every few minutes… what’s up here?
Lieberman’s plate is a lot like Nancy’s table.
If they’re maxed out in the primary, no the money cannot be transferred. Some folks specify funds to be used for the general only. I’ve had to ensure that any funds I get like that I keep separate track of so we don’t dip into it for the primary. Doesn’t see it very often. They also do stuff like specify that it be spent on yard signs, or TV ads, all kinds of stuff and we have to honour those requests if at all possible. If it isn’t I have to ask them if they want their money back. Had one guy in 06 wanted his dough to go for a plane with banner over the beaches. Wasn’t gonna happen so he redesignated it as a normal donation. Takes all kinds.
I want him as president, because the thought of “the Whitehouse White House” tickles me.
Yes, EU governments have much stricter controls on food, food additives, and drugs because they ultimately bear the cost of their citizens’ health.
Dirty dishes?
plate? as in denture?
I understand – but the general public does not. They use the word “crazy” as a catch-all and ‘mentally unstable’ is a synonym for crazy.
Fern @ 282
I agree – his ‘mental health’ in the current time IS okay to go after – since in my non-expert opinion, he is beginning to show signs of senility/senile dementia/alzheimers take your pick. His temper – while it may or may not be a mental health issue – is certainly a stability issue for this campaign.
I just would stay away from his mental health status during the years right after his release – for the reasons I stated.
And, 9/12, and 9/13, and 9/13….How about 1/20/00?
They snookered us and laughed in our faces….get fooled once, etc.,…watch this swing, etc.,
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
server hickups since they switched. I’m getting them too.
It was a paper plate and it got all soggy from the ball washing he was doing for Georgie boy.
He would be great but he’s Ri, too northeast and few electoral votes. Also he is needed in the Senate until he can run for prez :)
If you’re not on dialup, here’s an excellent c-span link on all the Senators’ speeches on the Phase 2 release… Most worthy are Sen.’s Whitehouse and Rockefeller, all you have to do is click on their names…!
Yeah…later…he should run with a southern VP type…
With Kennedy and Byrd though…we need him in the Senate…but..he’s fine…
I think it’s a much better strategy to tie W around McSame’s neck like a millstone, and back it up with his own dismal record. If he tries to pull the “maverick” crap it can be pointed out that he voted with W 100% of the time in 2008 and 95% of the time in 2007. That’s certainly being a maverick, don’t you think?
Definition #1 of maverick:
Quick definitions (maverick)
# noun: an unbranded range animal (especially a stray calf); belongs to the first person who puts a brand on it
Thanks, RevDeb!
Thanks!
Bunches of priests as friends? Are you Irish?
Ha! I don’t know any at all, but when I was growing up and visited my Aunt Virginia who worked her whole life at the Arch Diosese (Sp?), there were plenty of Catholic clergy at her house on the weekend, drinking beer and watching the LA Dodgers. It took me many years to understand that those ladies in the long black dresses – the Sisters – weren’t actually blood relatives. Ha. I did finally figure it out, tho. I always liked it at my Aunt Ginny’s.
I love that – belongs to the first person who puts a brand on him – and McC has a big B on his behind.
Could some tech-savvy person explain, in relatively simple plain language, just what is happening?
And, is the outlook for future improvement essentially favorable?
And, really going out on the plank, might there be some time ‘window’ in which to frame full or complete recovery?
I can tell if it’s got spark and if it’s getting fuel. I can even tell if it is plugged in … but, I confess this here high-tecnology whizzo stuff, while way cool, in some ways, and second nature to my children, still leaves me in the dust, staring at Warning:mysql_affected_rows(): supplied …… and there are more of them, piling up …there are now five and the last line ominous: NO WPMU site is defined on this host. If you are the owner of this site … and so on.
Which tells me nothing but “You have got to wait, patiently or not, until the deities of the toobular homeland decide to make nice. Now go away and do something else …”
A simple explanation would allow me to say, to myself, and others, should such occassion arise, “Oh its just the hypoid drive torque-tube displacement variables acting squirrelly on the Nacipbuper Star-co-med, nothin to worry ‘bouyt, happens all the time …”
OMG! Fits perfectly. Now to see CTuttle’s vids.
on or up?
McSame’s
Did anyone else catch Claire McCaskill on MSNBC this morning quite clearly call the Repub Candidate “John McSame”? Loud and clear – couldn’t miss it.
Senatorial snark?
Yes. Yes, that’s exactly what that was.
Switched what?
Cool moment, Tuesday night.
Isn’t there a song….”branded…da, da, da, da, da, da, ta…something, something something…da ta da ta da ta..branded”….
Claire for VP? Would put MO in the bag for Barack.
Ok… need to head to bed….. have an early flight home tomorrow…. Nite everyone
switched servers.
Your description is excellent.
Just reload the whole page. I think it was a server burp after a satisfying meal. A compliment to the poster.
but for the fact that MO has an R. governor.
Marion, tried to reply re: Barr to say good point.
Reply got me an error message cascade – fingers crossed for those poor hamsters.
Could some tech-savvy person explain, in relatively simple plain language, just what is happening?
I can – musically.
Warren Zevon – My Shit’s Fucked Up…

Claire is cool. She is a prosecutor. What you have to look for us that the VP can step in at any moment. She could do it. I think she is very sane.
Yes, as long as the new and hopefully Democratic governor is sworn in before our Presidential inauguration. I’m very impressed with her surrogacy, although she’s less “experienced” than Obama. But she’s mastered the teevee and has a very pleasant aspect.
I imagine, though, that she’s a tough politician.
Maybe those women who are Clinton supporters vowing to vote MCaine should take a trip down memory lane with the vidclip of him snappin’ at Maria Shriver when she was still at NBC.
Blue Texan upstairs.
I like her more than I anticipated.. But she is wrong on FISA. *sigh*
unclaimed zed upstairs
(not goggled)
Branded, …as the man who ran.
What can you do when your branded, and you know you’re a man?
Chuck Conners….
From my misty memory of my childhood.
I love this diary! And I love Barack Obama for nailing it down. He must do it every time McCain makes up his record. His real record is enough to assure an Obama win. Keep it up, Obama!
ctuttle at 300–i heard part of rockefeller’s speech on the newshour–which by the way tonight’s show i am saving on tape for many reasons…….
anyway, use rockefeller’s speech you quote and ask him, then use his same words on fisa……and how can he back it with those words he said?
i’m tellin’ ya, it’s the ace…….he can’t say it on one thing and deny it on the other.
it’s so transparent, his call for transparency and honesty, and yet not so on fisa……….oh my………
same thing……
gonna fill my letters………his ass is grass if anyone bothers to listen to what he said on the link you gave….
on the newshour, i transcribed it to send it on to fight the fisa stand……..
there’s no way he can back fisa after his phase speech.
he will be labelled hypocrite with his own words.
if we use them.
1-800-
you outta know the number by now.
Off into the arms of Morpheus. Precious little 19-year old tiger has an early, early vet appointment.
Namaste
My question of any VP pick would be WHAT IF …. what if that person leaves it’s current office and is the Veep….. WHAT Happens…. Who will take over the office, how will that office be filled, what impact on the state/house…. eg which Teddy keeps mentioning is AZ Gov Janet….. the problem is this, one she isn’t that progressive but if she was removed before 2010 then the SOS takes her position and she is a Repug wingnut radical.
What are the downstream issues if that person left their current office needs to be addressed!
That was really cool.
No, not Irish! They’re Episcopal priests, but priests nonetheless. Both Mr. Marion in Savannah and I are cradle Episopalians. We consider it part of our life calling to keep priests in line! Christmas is an occasion to find the most ghastly gifts possible. Like this, which we set up in the sacristy for Christmas Eve. For some reason our priest gets a little twitchy just before Christmas…!
Good luck in the morning. I have a 19 year old pud too.
Night, katymine. Best flight.
Maybe we should keep reminding folks what a “maverick” really is!
Oh yeah …
Warren done called it for what it is … all too often … the ‘… shit’s all fucked up’ …
Thankee, jayt …
Nite Katy… catch you in JFK again one of these days when I’m flying out too…
And they might want to consider that he wants to get rid of Roe v. Wade and send their daughters to the back alleys with rusty coathangers… Oh, great… Now you’ve made me cross! (just joking…!)
Good night, SD.
Hope the morrow is good to you and your tiger …
Marion, LOL!
You crack me up.;)
It’s really stressful for her. She has to stay all day to get her blood sugar monitored cuz she’s diabetic. And get her blood pressure monitored cuz she’s hypertensive. The bad part is she’s blind due to the hypertension and is easily frightened because she’s in a now unfamiliar place being handled by strangers. I don’t know who it stresses out more, her or me.
Nite SD.
Non- spoiler alert … no liquids while watching TDS …
McCain’s policy ideas rate right up there with pocket lint.
Hi Margot!
Oh bless you Petrocelli for the head’s up on TDS, in my case, it just about to begin in 7 minutes here on the left coast.
I think there are a lot of places ‘in play’ which haven’t been before. That doesn’t mean we’re a lock to get all the usual places though.
This election could be quite different from what we’ve seen the last couple of times.
Let’s say Obama doesn’t gain a huge advantage: where does McCain get a big edge, probably Ohio & Pennsylvania to go with Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky. Where would Obama be getting his advantages? Probably in the West and clearly from Wisconsin to Massachussetts. Arizona is going to be a huge Western state since that’s McCain’s home state. Can Obama take it? Will Barr’s influence in the west be a net gain for Obama?
Let’s say Obama does get a big edge: how? He’ll have to hold Ohio & Pennsylvania and really cost McCain in Virginia if not win it. In case he’s winning on money as well as states, then we can push harder in other less likely states like Texas, Alabama, Indiana, Kansas and some others.
America isn’t the same as 4 or 8 years ago (Bush has made certain of that) and Obama isn’t quite like Kerry or Gore or Clinton (Bill). It could be quite confusing to campaign strategists and whomever is quick of mind and foot will do better.
A new direction vs. a Conservative Bush Republican!
I think she is an auditor and they said she does great things following the money… knows how to ask the right followup questions when Congress has called someone in for questioning or on her Iraq trip her auditor side was brilliant.
Now, what is the story on her on FISA was it? Her conservatism came out recently and I was disappointed… but now I am blanking. Sorry.
