[Editor's note: Watch Obama speak on the livestream broadcast at left at 10:50 am EDT. We'll update with You Tube video when it's available. -- dn]
I’m sitting at the back of the hall in the press section, and I’m looking at a sea of SEIU/Obama t-shirts. The room is filled to capacity in anticipation of the arrival (on screen) of Barack Obama.
The SEIU endorsed Obama on February 15, 2008, and immediately mobilized its members to canvass their districts in support of his candidacy. According to Andy Stern, the union’s president:
"There has never been a fight in Illinois or a fight in the nation where our members have not asked Barack Obama for assistance and he has not done everything he could to help us."
Despite an initial hesitancy on the part of the unions, the SEIU endorsement marked a shift in the zeitgeist, with the Teamsters and locals across the country throwing their weight behind Obama.

They’re voting on one quick resolution. I think he’ll be on shortly.
GRAMMAR NAZI!
members have not asked Barack Obama for assistance
should be:
members HAVE asked Barack…etc…
jeesh. I’m a nerd.
After failing to connect initially, video is now fine, but I am getting no audio here.
Mine has stopped altogether after 10 minutes
Hah ! I love your nom de blog …
still testifying on the vote…
I got no video. Boo
Histoic day today… I’m so happy I’m not even going to blogwhore!
Live TV over the Internet is obviously still in the experimental stage. ;D
((( FWB )))
While y’all are waiting, mebbe you’d like to read the World’s reaction to Obama …
I spend a lot of time talking to furreners and I have yet to meet one who is not thrilled at the idea of him becoming POTUS … and not because of his skin color but because of what he represents in him words and demeanor …
they’re still voting on the debate, which is why the video isn’t up. He’ll be on in 7 minutes.
WATERTIGER!
Hope you’re still having a blast.
Freeway Blogger!
You deserve to be that happy. Does your face hurt from smiling so much yet?
FunnyD
I disagree, the
makes the rest of the statement correct.
My project this weekend is to make “Jus cogens” signs for the overpasses here locally.
They pulled the plug. Sorry, everyone. Don’t know why.
okay, here we go…
check out the Headline
Actually, oldphort (LOL) is correct … read it both ways and see which one is correct … and yes, I am a GRAMMAR NAZI too, although I confine my
compulsionscorrections to those in my home … *g*Crap! I’ll try to get them on it.
I am getting video again (had to restart), but still no audio. Also, Obama is not on yet.
Same here, no sound.
Click on this Link … speaker is warming up the crowd for BO
WE ARE BACK ON!
* handstands 4 tigers *
Boy, she sure is fired up ! *g*
Back up…click button now
Am getting no audio on that link either.
OT – Hillary, at AIPAC, portraying Obama as The Candidate, as opposed to presenting herself as a still-viable candidate.
audio working on this feed.
Oh poop! There has never been a time where we have asked and he has not helped.. …I get it.
Finally.
Thank Jeebus there isn’t a grammar test for admission to the lake!
The audio defaults to mute, turn it up.
good for her. that’s what we need.
((( Jayt )))
Got kinda busy last night so I couldn’t be here with all of you …
audience is going wild.
Thanks, that worked although audio is very low here.
Thanks for the update, I was just about to go back to AIPAC to see how she was framing Obama and herself.
Now I don’t have to!
‘mornin’.
Ha he gone past 2,209 yet?
… coupla more days …
I know, though, even that won’t be “enough.” Even 2,209 + 4 (MI hijackees) won’t suffice.
Oh man, he’s speaking right to my heart here. I worked in a hospital where we tried to get 1199 representation.
i wish you guys could feel the energy in this room. These workers are fired up.
A lot of healing will happen over the next week … let’s allow it to happen …
Thanks so much for the color commentary — it’s always so much better live. Really appreciate you giving us a glimpse!
just got off a work call, turned on the video to hear
“we are gonna change this country and we are gonna change the world. thank you!”
Amen, Petrocelli…
Silly of me, but I’d love for him to grab a Guitar and do “Guantanamera ” … *g*
“O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA, …”
just curious if you are going to be live-streaming the next speaker as well…
or are women’s voices to be marginalized because they refuse to “know their place” and do what men demand them to do?
Standing ovations, confetti, whistling! “Beautiful Day” playing over the loudspeakers
Yeah, me, too. My heart is soaring after listening to his speeches – last night and this one.
Please, God, protect this man.
Gotta love it. WaPo callling his campaign an “insurgency.”

Okay, that rocked.
to quote Pete Townsend…
“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”
((( WT )))
Now on to the really important vote for best Pina Colada … *g*
DFTT
Thank you, watertiger!
It’s SEIU’s livestream — so we’ll have to wait and see what they do. And you have to be kidding me if you think making a claim that women’s voices are marginalized at FDL is going to fly with anyone — Clinton or Obama supporters alike. That’s just ludicrous on its face.
Paul, when you’re a guest in someone else’s home, you ought to respect their rules.
The thread was actually about the presumptive nominee speaking to the SEIU, but they have video coverage of the entire event here.
Yeah, that was poignant.
sorry. But apparently I’ve gotten a bad batch of the Kewl-aid, because the amnesia part isn’t working, and I still remember when Obama was calling unions a “special interest”…. and didn’t mean it in a nice way.
especially when you have a home of your own to go to where you can make the rules.
FunnyD
You’re saying this on a blog run and founded by a “Jane” and a “Christy”? On a post written by a woman?
That’s some sound logic.
Good Grief !
ot msnbc – rahm endorses barack

How’ve ya been ?
I take it that means you’ll be carrying Hillary’s speech then?
I’m here to help.
Occasionally, I even succeed!
I think I’ll go clean out the litter box…
Doing well. and yourself?
what is she talking about?
Tanks.
Thought you were admonishing me there for a second. But you were just answering my question. And, yes, I’ll take that advice.
FunnyD
Speaking of speeches, interesting Jon Taplin comment on his own blog:
LOL!
urbandictionary.com is your friend:
http://www.urbandictionary.com…..?term=DDSS
No, no. Just advice to not take the persistent and vapid bait here.
McCain is live on msnbc – complete with green background.
Very well thanks, the winter was so long that spring has forgotten to show up … *g*
Well, I guess what I’m asking is whether these are independent women’s voices — are they simply party apparachniks that fall into line when Howard Dean and a corrupt RBC tells them to fall into line — that the man won, and women now have to “return to their place” and subjugate themselves to the interests of a man who exploited misogyny to gain power?
Because there is ONE woman who is saying “No! I will NOT be disrespected. The women — and everyone else in this party — who supported me will NOT be taken for granted.”
McChange!!!
LOL!
Holy shit you meant it.
He kept the green background… …damn.
Then if she asks you to vote for Obama, you will right ?
can’t.resist.temptation … what’s my safe word ? … oh yes … cinnamon, cinnamon, cinnamon …
yes. and not directed at me personally (thanks, man).
Thanks, Lee5. Forgot all about the Urban Dictionary. I’ll try it more often.
Are you still here, watertiger? can we get the feed for Hillary’s speech?
FunnyD
I like how they have old people lining the green background… …while McCain still looks sickly in front of it, he is not the only sickly old person on screen.
He’s was about to take questions he said, but now is babbling on.
Funny “green screen” stuff from HuffPo:

apologies in advance if the linky doesn’t work. I’ve lost the link button in the comments box and might not be remembering the html tags right.
See ya upstairs.

Paul,
Obama is a politician. A Dem politician. Labor is our base.
When he was running against Edwards and Edwards had albor sewn up, he was natuerally going to say bad things about labor. Now, he needs to make amends with labor and get ready for the general election.
For those who see Obama as a prgamatic politican rather than a latter day messiah, what he is doing makes perfect sense. it’s the professional thing to do.
He’s not the second coming of Christ, he’s a professional politician, doing what he is supposed to do.
Paul, it’s the Union’s feed. They decide what goes out on it, not FDL
Paul,
Covering a major news story–and this speech is major news story–does nt equal being an apperachick. Whether you agree with the Michigan decision or not, and meany do not, it is up to Hillary to decide whether to challenge it further, or not.
Do Hillary the courtesy of allowing her to decide. She’s got skin in the game.
looseheadprop: challenging the Michigan decision would be pointless, as the most Hillary could conceivably get would the shift of four delegates. She’s lost. Anyone who thinks that other scenarios are possible is ignoring the reality that the committee that hears the repeal has the same chairs as the committee that met Saturday, and that many of the members who’ve been Clinton supporters in the past are now urging Clinton to just stop (people like Tom Vilsack).
I know that this is painful to her and to her supporters, but the task now is to beat John McCain. Anything that detracts from the process of getting the party together to beat John McCain is harmful to the party and ultimately to Clinton herself.
I’m not suggesting that she should challenge the decision. What I was trying to point out to Paul, is that by asserting these positios pre-emptively before she has made HER decision, he ends up inadvertatnly disrespecting the personhe is trying to support.
Rather tha following HER lead.
