The problem is that there are quite a few non-political people out there who see McCain as that funny guy who was on Leno and Letterman – it’s how we got the idiot who we could have a beer with now.

Your talking points are perfect – our job is to spread them around enough to the people you know who are not necessarily political and/or wired.

Thanks for trying to get people to come together and remind us what unites us. I went back and tried to read your thread from yesterday, which was also about uniting, and I can not believe the hatred and vitriol – still – of some people who can’t let go and accept that not everyone thinks as they do, they can’t accept that good well-meaning people came to different conclusions than they did.

These people are “adults,” but honestly, from the words and purported future actions, you have to come to the conclusion, from reading their words, that they are – hopefully – only temporarily immature and irrational: paraphrasing from that thread and (faulty?) memory of other comments from the last few months; “you just made McCain the next President,” “I’ll vote for McCain before I vote for that person,” “delegates were stolen” … I could go on and on

WOW!!!

I confess I’m not seeing what they are seeing, and I don’t know if I ever will. I guess I think the election is too important, what with troops in harms way in Iraq and Afghanistan, people dying because of a lack of healthcare, kids going to bed hungry, choice, the homeless, the budget deficit, the economy, schools falling apart. I just don’t see the utility in voting for more of the same – as some have threatened – and being bitter and angry and hating those who somehow disagree with your choice of candidates and with the result of that hatred we wind up getting more flag burning amendments, laws against teh gays, and finding out who wears the biggest flag pin

But that’s just me …

Back to Ted Kennedy

Probably my first memory that I can pin down with a date was when I was two (yea, somehow it burned into my memory). My Mom was watching tv and was crying, I had a horrible feeing something very intense happened, she said Bobby Kennedy got shot. I didn’t really know what that meant but that it was something very significant. I think most of it was that we’re half Irish and all Catholic.

The next thing I knew … there was a funeral and Bobby’s brother Ted got up to speak.

And, I knew I should’ve been more interested in cartoons, or where my toys were, but for some reason I stayed on the couch with my parents. I also remember my brothers and sisters being there as well. I don’t remember a lot but for some reason I was content to try my best to console my parents as best I could. I don’t know how I knew that the words he was speaking were important … but somehow I knew.

He thinks Sammy Alito and John Roberts are just swell Supreme Court Justices.

He said Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson were agents of intolerance (got that right!), then stopped just short of fellating Falwell on the dais at a Liberty U commencement ceremony. I guess they aren’t such agents of intolerance after all.

Where I come from, we call folks with those sorts of flexible principles Pander Bears.

Ya know Sister jackie, she has been runnin for president for so long and spendin all that talent on her ambitions in lieu of workin politics for a constituency and legislation that I don’t know if there are very many people that trust her to be able to switch gears and direct her talents toward serving the public and solving problems.

And she’s got such a large posse ta feed and so many IOU’s out there that it’s a big risk ta put her anywhere in a subordinate position.
