Zombie John McCain was not so gracious, making an obvious and tasteless play for disgruntled Hillary voters by talking her up while suggesting that "pundits and party elders" stole the nomination away from her ("Obama has disenfranchised you! Vote for me! I love Hillary!"), while speaking to an audience of about 80 white guys.
McCain also took pains (and I mean that literally – he looked pained) to belittle Obama as a green lightweight, and to ridicule him for repeating over and over that a McCain presidency would be a third term for George W. Bush, because he’s totally a maverick who opposes Dubya all the time. Plus it’s not ironic at all for a Republican to accuse someone of repeating an untruth over and over again to make it sound truthy…
Mercifully, MSNBC and CNN cut away from McCain’s soporific droning about how Obama’s policies are "not change we can believe in" (because McCain is the real Change Candidate, just like Dubya was eight years ago) to call it for Obama and talk about what a wonderful historic moment this is. Beautiful.
The other noteworthy event was Hillary’s somewhat enigmatic speech to a huge, enthusiastic crowd, which, while uplifting, was also very inconclusive – it was not actually a concession speech, and all she said about her plans was "no decision tonight." Scuttlebutt on TV is that she wants to meet face-to-face with Obama before charting her next move.
In case I didn’t make it clear enough, the difference in production values between the McCain and Clinton/Obama speeches was just amazing. McCain’s was just a guy on a stage talking to a small group of people, and not a lot of energy on the stage or in the audience. Clinton and Obama were surrounded by energized, well-dressed supporters – and I do mean surrounded, so that when the camera was on them, you could see the people behind them reacting, as opposed to McCain’s sickly green backdrop. And everything, and everyone, just looked great.
And the best line of the night is a throwaway from Cliff’s primary liveblogging:
9:43 – Somewhere at this very moment, Mitt Romney’s hair is combing itself.
It’s funny because it’s true. Now let’s go get McCain.
(h/t Ben Wikler for the great Jeff Toobin clip)

Eli!
Obama!
Hurray for Obama and for all of us, now the hard campaign to November begins, at last.
It’s a good day for America.
Hour’s late, I’ve overstayed. S’long, pups.
Thanks Eli.
nite prairie
My pleasure. I just updated the post, I realized I forgot something important at the end…
Eli!!!
Aloha, Prairie! Aloha, Eli!
Eli!
I waz bad at the Lake this am.
I am glad u r here!
YOU always make it better!
:)
Aloha, Suzanne, Ctut!
McChange!
Hee. Hiya, siri!
Hi Eli. I am thrilled with tonight.
McChange, Depends.
Hi Betsy. I’m mostly just glad that it’s over.
while speaking to an audience of about 80 white guys.
In Louisiana thats all the support he has? Did all the African American Republicans lose their homes to Katrina?
I’m not going to make that image!
Those are going to be great sound bites, McCain saying “third Bush term” over and over and over again, as he attempted to refute it tonight. At which, by the way, he failed utterly.
Mixed bag for me Betsy, my Grandma passed away today…!
Excellent. Thanks Eli.
Obama who cannot win white working class votes, is slaughtering Clinton in Montana. We have the third lowest household income in the nation, lead the nation in percentage of people working two or more jobs, and are on of the ten whitest states in the US (over 90% white with 0.4% African Americans).
shoe p0rn up at my place (for those so inclined)
Howard Fineman and Timmeh reporting diametrically opposing stories:
Fineman: Hillary just wants to be asked, but really doesn’t want the job…
Timmeh: Hillary *really* wants to be V.P.
???????
Unfortunately Bush WAS all about change.
All of it bad beyond even my worst nightmares.
Left turn Clyde.
ohhhhh (((ct))) and (((ct family)))
Oh, so sorry for your loss! Hugs to you and the family.
OK, now for a short, hard, brutal, uphill fight!!
Wow! I want toes like that.
I take it that that is not an appropriate topic for this blog.
(((((CTuttle)))))
So sorry to hear that. (((((CT)))))
(((CTuttle)))
Meet with Obama? She wants to meet with Obama? I’m Barry I say “Look sweatie, we saved you a seat, but the train’s leavin’ the station.” She needs to bring to the table what she can and will do for him. Otherwise, he should tell her to piss off. Hope it doesn’t come to that.
McInsane loves — your children for the US Army. Sign them up at 16! We guarantee them a war of our choosing! And after 11 years a second class education at Halliburton U.!

w00t! hot mother-in-law toesies!
You and your family look lovely, and blessed, dear. Are you glad to put your feet up and visit with babygirl?
nice toes tho!
Let’s start Digging for Eli!
lol :)
welcome back, suzanne
Thanks ya’ll! I truly appreciate your condolences!!!
McCain looks like Charlie Chaplain in his later years. His speech appeared to have been given in the banquet room of a Kenner coffee shop. Which was just fine because it was a lousy speech anyway. But still, you’d think he’d at least try to make it LOOK good…
Sorry, CT. My condolences to you & the family.
Good night. In many ways!
that’s our boy! go Barack!
That’s IT!!!!! I’ve been trying to put my finger on it. He gets more stooped over every day.
Funny thing is, so does Howard Dean. But Dean is more Limelight/Monsieur Verdoux Chaplin, and McCain is more A King In New York…
Not saying this as a partisan, but all the speeches of his that I’ve seen (not all that many) sucked.
I’m so sorry, CTut. Peace.
shoes…sports…pens…
where do you draw the line?
baby girl left for utah sun late afternoon – a very dear friend of hers was in a horrible collision (drunk driver crossed freeway and hit her head on). stephanie wanted to head back to be with her friend and friend’s family. she got home at 6am ca time mon morning.
and yeah, it was forking great spending time with baby girl. saw family i had not seen in 30 years at the wedding and my mom had all 3 of her kids in the same room for the first time in 7 years.
and those are grandma toesies
In other election news, California’s prop 98 is going down in flames. And Mike Lumpkin gets to take on Duncan Hunter Jr. (Nepotistic R) for the CA-52 house seat. I wonder how many Republicans voted for little Duncan, thinking they were voting for his daddy.
you know you all aren’t white. Just really light black people that look white *g*
Now, Suz, I doth protest! You have pics of your feet and your back… Now when do we get to see what your outfit looks like? Hmmm…?
great stuff @ cspan about energy prices being manipulated because of an enron”loophole” and colusion by Dubai,Brits, texas, hedge funds and speculators because of the Grahamm (Macain eco genius)that slipped in a dereg law in 2000. Also that the housing market problem stems from the same law
Hillary’s speech was an embarrassment.
It was a selfish and graceless and she did herself no favors. Certainly if she is angling for a VP slot this would be the wrong way to go about it.
A good day.
Unite, Democrats. McBu’ush cannot be permitted to proceed with the irreversible ruination of this country.
ct, click on my name
Ya think? Dean?
For McCain, I was thinking more rocking chair in Switzerland.
(CTuttle)))((
By way of disclosure: I’m not a fan of Hillary or Obama, but during the time since Edwards dropped out, my estimation of Hillary has declined, and Obama has turned out to be better than I expected.
IIRC, tonight Hillary did not say anything to the effect that Obama had won the primary and/or amassed the support of a majority of the delegates. The closest she came was to congratulate his campaign on its (unspecified) “accomplishments.” In normal circumstances, I’d call that the least gracious concession speech I’d ever heard. These aren’t normal circumstances.
As soon as Obama’s speeched was over, I called a very well conected friend, who had until a few minutes been on the phone with someone highly placed in the Clinton campaigh. (He has some friends who are very highly placed, but wouldn’t say about this one.)
According my friend, his contact said that the Clinton campaign has information on Obama, including videotapes, that they know that the Republicans have too, that if disclosed would make Obama absolutely unelectable.
I cried “bullshit.” He insisted on reserving judgement, mostly in deference to his friend. And that’s where it was left.
My only conclusion is that there are people reasonably highly placed in the Clinton campaign who believe this stuff, and that everything I saw from Clinton herself tonight is consistent with her believing such stuff and feeling she can exploit it to either the #1 or #2 position on Democratic ticket. But “consistent with” proves nothing — it only says that what we’ve seen hasn’t refuted that hypothesis.
For the time being, I put no credence in that hypothesis, and even if bad stuff is going to come out, at some point all loyal democrats, including the Clintons, must commit to the party’s nominee.
All Obama needs to do to win the election is remind people how long SOTU and other presidential addresses are.
he must have missed The Great Dictator.
i wanna see that mcsame rocking chair on trent lotts front porch
I fully support the Democratic slate fully, whomever they turn out to be (I’m a centrist independent).
You must be from NO if you say that. Ha!!!
why? on Earth, now?, are we still inflicted with TUCKS????? (Tucker? still on, well, Anywhere?)
(Originally known as anal sooth)
Can we find a McCain angle to that?
Suzanne…
Those shoes will be handy for you to walk on down to the post office!
Have you decided what you’ll do in terms of moving, Suz? Will you go be near your daughter?
Yeah, it’s something about the smile. It was especially striking in person.
Bit late in the day for Clinton to be using it now, assuming it exists. No longer does her any good.
Are you the Rama with a Sunday night radio show?
i gotta admit, i am sooo happy the primaries are over. i wanna focus on electing the D nominee and making sure that mcsame’s campaign goes down in flames.
oh, sorry. I read it again. we have a mccain angle.
I didn’t see it but it sounds that way. She was introduced as the next president. Tweety had to even say (in all seriousness) “I don’t think it was delusional.” Hardly a 5 star review. WTF is this woman doing? Barry just gotta go ahead. Stop putting 2 minutes of HRC ass kissing in every speech and go after McCain.
these wouldn’t be the infamous Michelle ‘whitey’ tapes?
I saw one pic of your back, while you were cutting the rug… and a bunch of your shoes and pedicure, which I did like the work… But, not one frontal shot of you in your outfit!
Some of us may really be that. My great grandfather was a Redbone from southwest Louisiana.
If such tapes existed, the Clinton campaign would have gotten them out already. How does your friend explain that they’ve been held? The Clintons play for keeps, and they would have seen to it that anything so damaging was released.
Besides, the “tapes” rumor has been pretty thoroughly debunked, today, at BooMan.
those shoes lasted through the ceremony and about halfway through the formal pictures. the entire reception was in my comfy slippers – otherwise there would have been no pictures of me dancing.
i’m been not allowed to wear heels for 5 years now – since the total knee replacement…
“According my friend, his contact said that the Clinton campaign has information on Obama, including videotapes, that they know that the Republicans have too, that if disclosed would make Obama absolutely unelectable.”

LOL!
Right. Uh, they are saving this torpedo for precisely when?
Suz, your daughter is beautiful. And you look radiant!
LOL
I think it is until his contract runs out. He is a boil on the ass of humanity
could Hillary run for V.P. and resign after the election to become head of Health & Human Services?
A bit of dirty politics, but ya gotta look at who we’re playing against.
i’m in a group shot i posted – full frontal and shoes even show if ya look closely.
am expecting more pictures in – when i get em, i’ll post em.
We need to beat McCain very badly, and elect as many progressives to Congress as we can. It is vitally important to the future of our nation, and perhaps the planet.
Not a ral surprisse. Lots of folks ancestors were down with the swirl *g*
I think Clinton sent Obama a message tonight…
NOBODY is putting THIS woman in her place.
I think that Saturday’s corrupt fiasco at the RBC strengthened her resolve. That is what the whole “respect my voters” and “count ever vote” part of the speech was about — and she WILL take this fight to the convention if need be to make sure that HER voters are respected.
(Its funny how fauxgressive always complain about how weak and conciliatory the democratic leadership is — then when they actually get a candidate with a spine, they despise her….)
Hillary doesn’t need to leave — she’s already established her place in history, she’s already won more votes than Obama, she’s got a secure job, and she doesn’t need Obama.
And if she does wind up back in the senate, watch out. For seven years she did what she was told, stayed out of the limelight, worked inside the system, and that path got her nothing. She ran a relentlessly positive campaign, focussed on the ussues, and that was not enough for her colleagues — it was only when the chips were down, that she found her real voice, and now she’s been liberated. She owes no one anything — not the party, and certainly not Barack Obama.
Obama totally scrwed HIMSELF with his little power play on Saturday, because you do NOT treat Hillary Clinton like that. He desperately needed unity, and instead insisted up having his own way. His “show of strength” was really a sign of weakness — stealing delegates, and treating hispanic votoers, jewish voters, elderly voters, women voters as worthy of only 1/2 a vote is not the way to achieve unity.
So now, Obama is going to be subjected to assaults for the next three months by the right wing noise machine, while Hillary sits on the sidelines and tells everyone who asks that she’s still in the race because she’s the stronger candidate in November, and that’s she’s ready on Day One, and that the nomination will be decided at the convention.
And anyone who hasn’t figured out by now that you can’t force Hillary Clinton to do anything — and that she has withstood everything that has been thrown at her and she’s still standing – doesn’t understand how politics works.
So the Obama supporters should take full advantage of their faux-victory tonight, because its all gonna be downhill from here. Clinton’s voters are going to stick with her, and that is all that matters — because the longer HER voters compare her to Obama and McCain, the better off SHE is, and Obama gets the worst of it.
more snack
exactly! time is of the essence that we get progressive policies in place to protect our country from threats, both domestic and global.
Have to agree. They have pulled no punches so far in the campaign and cannot see why they would do so here. I think this is just more disinformation to try to keep the campaign alive.
SCROLL!!!!!!! Everybody!!!!! SCROLL!!!!!!!!
Exactly. My comment was that “That’s the shit that primaries are for.”
It wasn’t a concession speech. That is yet to come.
It’s funny that MSNBC only lets him on after midnite, when Dan Abrams and the jazzband come on….
And I love it when Rachel slaps him around. You know Rachel makes Tucker cross his legs as much as Hillary does.

care for more pie?
Yeah, let’s go medieval on his ass *g* grrrrrrrr

I think his daddy still holds a few markers and keeps calling them in; but, surely, that’s run it’s course. The years of the bow-tie ate up a lot of street cred, even in the repug camps, “Carlson, your kid looks like Paul Simon fur crissake!”
power scroll!!!!!
*polite golf applause*
This reminds me nothing so much as that segment from the Clinton campaign film where Stephanopolis receives similar assertions and basicly calls Bulldada. Of course, in Bill’s case it was likely true…but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least that the Clinton campaign have been using this sort of stuff to try and influence the Super Delegates.
You certainly live in a pie-rich environment!
On Memorial weekend I saw a clip of McCain “campaigning” He shook the hands of a few old people and then there was a scene walking up to some old veterans. Then they immediately played the same pathetic 10 second clip again! A cable news channel couldn’t come up with more than that? And they probably couldn’t.
*spew*
Will ya give it a rest already…?
teehee
I think you’re right. It’s bullshit. i also agree with those who say we would have seen ity by now. It’s Obama’s nomination. His election to win or lose.
what nobody’s talking about is this: if the D’s lose HRG & BO go back to the Senate. If HRC does anything which arguabnly costs BO the lecetion, how do you think he colleagues will reward her? Elect her majority leader? Doubtful. I’m really tired of hearing about her at this point. She lost and better not overplay her hand — if she hasn’t alreday.
((CTuttle))
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this.
boa noite rosalind
.
for the same reason that the Clinton campaign had the Wright tapes and never used them — that’s not how she operates. She runs a clean campaign.
Oh, and BTW, the Michele tapes supposedly were dug up by a losing GOP candidate — I’d not be surprised to find out that the Clinton campaign had copies, but she would never use them.
mmmm pie
And Barrack sent her a message: Great job. Very impressive. Loser.
I knew it! With no knee surgery I can no longer wear heels for too long. I used to wear heels to work every day. Now I just care about comfort.
Wow, don’t finish the whole bottle, you’re gonna need a little something in the morning when you realize, it’s over. She lost. Not well, not gracefully–though she was given every chance–she just lost, alone, in the rain.
HORRAY !!! from the roof tops!!!
We won one!
Way to go everybody!
Take the day off tomorrow, you deserve it!

just curious…
did you give the theft of the Florida election a rest after 3 days?
I think that it’s turd-blossom pie…with some psilocybin mushrooms growing on top.
Wow. One hardly knows where to begin.
Well, he blew past the betting line majorly. Her campaign is BK.
Not saying she has no leverage (she’s certainly earned some), but it is severely circumscribed at this point.
He won. She came in second. Period.
Huh…?
Hillary and Barack have spoken on the telephone !!
breaking on MSNBC
Have some pie, hon.
Quite amazing, this technology magic.
Yeah, that was particularly rich.
truth about supposed tapes here
Ickes did then, but, suddenly seems to have found the light…!

please, no personal attacks on other commenters – that type of behavior will result in your comment being modified
and will totally ruin my good mood that has lasted for over a week now
Inspired — keep using that embrace word!
now, that’s a nice way to feed the trolls … make sure to lick yr face off afterwards
How did HRC get screwed any way? Didn’t they divvy up FL per the election results? What’s the problem? Only 1/2 votes? So what? Better than 0 votes like Ickes had originally voted for. And what is the justification for Ickes’s about face? Well, no on ecould have forseen…. Forseen what? That HRC wouild lose?
I was no O supporter. But he won. I wish it had been Edwards. But now he won. And we–the losers–need to decide to support him or that we are voting for Nader, as it were.
Don’t they know the phones are tapped?

that’s the point. this Graham guy was”the” instrument that the enregy gurus used to dereg the speculation laws that allowed other countries to speculate on our oil and drive it up. .I beleive Jane or Christy did a post about him.He was Macains econonmic adviser though I think since he’s been exposed Macain dumped him. This law was one of the first things Bush did.Soros and the rest of these guys on cspan are flat pissed at congress for allowing this reg to pass.
well, there’s always Bob Barr ….
was that me?? i don’t think i did. but i sometimes get that nudge.
Apparently the Clinton headquarters, and rally tonight, were three floors below ground at Baruch College, in order to preclude her supporters from knowing the outcome before her appearance.
Perhaps they are still huddled there, dropping calls on their cell phone and reviewing grainy SuperEight movies of Michele Obama saying “Why’d he let New Orleans drown?” and wondering when to release them to the public….
There’s always Bob Barr…
Who?
lol! goes well with the kristol
couldn’t help myself, sorry
And no TV monitors…
not directed to anyone in particular, bfl
was just a gentle reminder to everyone
I’ll believe you when the convention is over. Obama is still hundreds of pledged delegates away from the nomination, and would be even further away if he didn’t insist on treating jewish voters, hispanic voters, women voter, and elderly voter sas “half” Americans.
Those votes will be counted as full votes. Clinton isn’t conceding at LEAST until that happens — IIRC there is a pre-convention credentials committee meeting some time in July, so maybe by then Obama will come to his senses and stop treated Hillary’s voters with such contempt, because every day that passes that his contempt remains evidence is a day when he loses votes from clinton supporters.
Name’s Phil Gramm, and he’s not been dumped. Still advising McCain on the economy. His wife was on the Enron board. They are evil.
EXACTLY !!!
I am so sorry for you.
Blessings to all of your family.
Next recipe card I draw, it’ll be for pie.
Lemonade pie. Man, that’s good!
Where is Twain? ok. I will say it.
You need a nap.
how was the FL election thefted? I didn’t vote ’cause Harold Ickies and the other rules committee people told me it was meaninghless. she’s lucky she got anything. not satisfied.-
hundreds of pledged delegates? i just don’t get ‘new’ math.

It’s a party – we have a nominee.

Yes, well that is the Republican brand these days.
I am going to stick my neck out here and ask everyone to please give Mr Lukasiac a little slack here.

Being an asshole is one of my specialties, leave it to the professionals.
Up your dosage.
Congratulations! You are now offically part of McCain’s base.
suzanne, in my opinion things may have gotten a little lax in your absence
at least, there has not been the tone that I expect to find here
now, getting back to the no more primaries celebration…

If you want, you can write her name in on the ballot in November. Hope that helps.
just wth are you saying, sir?

And just imagine how Gravel’s supporter feels!
I’d still like the drawing tho :)
‘nite all! Happy to leave on a good eve.
Primaries over, on to crushing mcsame in the general!
No offense busted but he has been at it all day. We have had threads on how to unify the party and this shit isn’t the way.
“Clinton isn’t conceding at LEAST until that happens”
________
No, she will effectively concede after meeting with the campaign accountants this week. She’s BK, and needs a bailout, fairly soon. “Denver” and “delusion” start with the same letter here.
Well, you have already indicated you aren’t going to vote for Obama so why keep harping on this. She knew the Party rules as well as he concerning the primaries.

Holy crud, 89 comments in 20 minutes? I’m hopelessly behind.
So, I’m just jumping in here, I guess.
CTuttle, I’m very sorry for your loss. Hope you and your family can grieve together and remember the woman you all loved.
FunnyD
I can ask; I’m dating her.
WAY WAY WAY off topic. What would possess a woman to buy a chocolate ice cream cone for a kid at 10 pm on a school night?
What is “BK”?
Have your hip wadders? You might need them
you want the kid to jump up and down on the couch till midnight?
LMAo uh oh. He is bouncing off the walls now, huh?
Hi FunnyD, don’t even try to catch up! By the time you do, there’ll be 89 more. (Minus the few you’ll need to scroll through.)
I’ve been guilty of fomenting some of that discord, because I’m concerned about the situation that Obama has claimed the nomination and Clinton has defiantly not conceded it. This is a situation that the Republicans can and will exploit, and lukasiak’s comments show exactly how that exploitation will be pursued.
IMHO, however contentious and unpleasant, this is a discussion that the rank-and-file democrats have to have immediately.
“Bankrupt”
(I used to be in banking, it was shorthand slang)
No offense taken sweetie.
I’m aware.
Obama just easily gone over the necessary delegates pledged to win the nomination
http://demconwatch.blogspot.co…..notes.html
Hillary’s committments are abandoning her in droves to support Obama. Apparently THEY have no belief in this supposed set of tapes that make Obama “unelectable”. And what are Clinton apparatchiks going on the phone telling people “with connections” that there are such videotapes unless she is using it as a means to prevent such a flood of endorsements. It was a shabby effort, and didn’t work.
Thanks, Funny!

ME? Hell no! I want him to sleep. I am not the one who bought the ice cream.
I have no idea of Ickes rationale in going along with the “0″ vote prohibition. My guess is that he, like the rest of the committee, thought this would be over months ago, and both states could have their full delegations restored.
The POINT of the whole exercise was to prevent Michigan and Florida from having an EARLY influence on the election — the time when the field was winnowed, etc. Both states should have been restored right after super tuesday, but Obama didn’t want that….so we are now at the pretty pass we find ourselves in.
Keep in mind that three other states changed their dates in violation of the rules — and in having New Hampshire go second instead of third, this ENTIRE race might have changed. Obama won in Iowa, but at that point was not expected to do well in Nevada, where Edwards was strong. Edwards’s really poor showing in NH resulted in key labor endorsements in Nevada not materializing — and then going to Obama, sealing the fate of the Edwards campaign.
So, had Nevada gone second, we could be looking at a whole different political reality here — and NH should have been subjected to the timing sanctions not just for moving its date, but for changing the ORDER of the contests — as Levin made clear, it was the ORDER, the fact that IA and NH went first and second every year that was the problem…. and making Nevada number two was key to getting Michigan and other states to go along.
But, like most Obama supporters, you insist upon changing the subject — this is about what Obama did last week, not what Harold Ickes did last year —and Ickes isn’t running for president (a small detail that Obama supporters consistently seem to forget.)
Hillary Clinton never took a position on the sanctions, because she knew that the states would be seated eventually. She followed the rules, and when the appropriate time came (after ST) she began advocating for the full seating of the delegations.
OK
but let’s not have it here on the transparent “toobz”

Sorry, your right
These guys are saying that law caused the housing crisis and, stopped the restrictions on speculating on energy which is responsible for as much as 50% of the price of oil!! all the hedge fund giants are long on their investments and are hoarding oil to keep the price up.Also this could all be stopped in a week if congress acted immediatly.
i don’t know that you would want to use him as an example of a Hillary supporter. Certainly a type of supporter but not her typical supporter.
cool *g*
She lost. End of story. Pursue your options, but spare us the poignant Quixotic blather.

oh, lol! i thought you were lamenting your mistake ;)
Recalling many late-nite snax from my granma, thanks!
what makes you think she wants to be rewarded? If she wanted to be majoority leader, she’d run for it.
Its amazing how Obama supporters talk about the need for “change in the process” yet can’t get out of the mindset of the old process. They can’t seem to understand that Hillary Clinton IS changing the process, not playing the old “political gains”, not folding under pressure, and REPRESENTING THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE VOTING FOR HER, rather than exploiting her position to gain power for herself.
Grandma’s here this week. :)

(I’m surprised at Maxine, tho. My guess is that JJ Jr threatened her with the race card, like he’s done with other lblack officials who dare to have a conscience and not give in to the racist politics that is JJ Jr’s specialty.)
Nancy Pelosi is, unsurprisingly, winning her primary with about 88% of the vote, with 17% counted.
Oh dear. They’re back from TCBY. Is that one of your “kids” your talking about? Your Mom?
If it’s your family, I’d say Grandma’s indulging in a lot of bonding and a tiny little bit of payback…
Cassie sounds like she’s had a great day, really happy to have spent it with her grandma. Makes my heart all warm and fuzzy.
FunnyDiva
The bottom line is that she got a much better deal than what she and her campaign had originally agreed to.
For someone to compain about getting a better deal like that strikes me as emotionally immature. And I had never seen the Clintons that way until this campaign.
*shaking head* facts have no bearing, it’s all about baffling with bullshit
Speaking on behalf of all grandparents, it is an absolute moral imperative which we cannot avoid. ;-)
CT, I am truly sorry about your loss
It now matters less and less each day what she (or any of you) wants. In direct proportion to the unreasonableness of the demands.
Sorry.
Yep! Cassie is finished with school. Texteen has to be there at 8:15 in the morning.
Big grins in the Big Sky. 8-)
I’ll believe you when the convention is over. Obama is still hundreds of pledged delegates away from the nomination, and would be even further away if he didn’t insist on treating jewish voters, hispanic voters, women voter, and elderly voter sas “half” Americans.
Jewish voters will vote Obama rather than McCain why because Bush just gave Saudia Arabia Nuclear Tech and Uranium. I wonder how long before Ossama gets some Jewish voters are well aware of Ossama’s ties to the Kingdom.
http://voanews.com/english/2008-05-16-voa23.cfm
Hispanic Voters even the legal ones, even the Cubans get hassled everytime the GOP starts blaming us for a bad economy as long as Glen Beck and Lou Dobbs are on TV stirring up hate. Everytime Hispanic kids get attacked for being Hispanic McCain losses our votes.
Women know that they are are one Supreme Court vote away from losing Abortion rights and they know McCain will deliver to the Right on that issue.
Also Harold Ickes and how many other Clinton supporters voted to take away Florida and Michigan’s votes before Hilary decided that she needed them.
Political Opportunism is not Principle and pretending that you are standing on Principle when you are not is wrong, plus its a bad lie we are the Net Roots not the MSM you will have to do better to hoodwink us.

this sounds like an infiltrator.
no,
like a sneak, weird energy,
I’m just sayin’. Feels that way.
You know what, you’re totally right. It’s almost as if things were different, then the results might have been different too…or something. Like, maybe if the Clinton campaign hadn’t started with the presumptive idea that it was over before it began, maybe she would have campaigned in caucus states…but she didn’t; maybe she would have jettisoned Mark Penn earlier…but she didn’t; maybe she wouldn’t have let Bill shoot his mouth off…but she didn’t. She would have been a good nominee, but she isn’t. Obama is, and he’s pretty damn good, too. That’s the coffee, smell it.
which is the best argument for Clinton staying in the race — its shows that politics will shift with the prevailing winds, and when the shitstorm hits obama, they’ll switch back to Hillary.
my uncle was a smokejumper up your way (long time ago)
[cut-n-paste from my blog]
There are a couple of catches, though.
First, are superdelegates obligated to vote the way they’ve pledged? I don’t believe they are. They probably won’t change their minds, unless Obama does (or has done) something really, really stupid that could make him unelectable. Many superdelegates are elected officials. Their word, at least when dealing with each other, is important. But that’s one reason for Clinton to hang on.
The other reason is that Obama’s only “over the top” by 38 votes at the moment. There are challenges going on in Texas. There is still the very remote possibility that the DNC’s decision concerning Michigan and Florida will be overturned. It’s a very slim margin. There are still unpledged superdelegates, though, so that margin could become greater.
Conceivably, it could grow smaller, as well.
I expect Clinton will stay in the race until such time as it’s completely clear that she can’t win. In fact, no one in his right mind would expect any less. That could happen any time between tomorrow and the middle of the convention.
[Linky goodness here]
STANDING OVATION!!!!
:D
Oy.
You know, here’s the thing. We have this election in the fall? Where the nominee of the Democratic party (not the one I voted for, but you know what’s awesome? He wouldn’t have been allowed to vote in a lot of states forty years ago) is going to be running against yet another incompetent son 0f privilege who wants to use the executive branch to pay off his grudges and pack the Supreme Court with Justices who’ll return us to the 1800s, only with nuclear weapons?
Good lord almighty, folks, breathe. Yes, you have to accept him and work for him and yes, you have to reach out to her supporters.
I keep saying this. People died so we could get to where we were when the current disaster wasn’t elected. Hurt feelings != dead.
Please. It really does matter.
Hahahahahahahahohohohohoheeheeheeheeheeheeheeheehawhawhawhawhawhawhaw…
Right.
the fact is that her campaign never agreed to anything.
This wasn’t about ‘campaigns’ back then. Nobody was sitting around saying ‘well, penalizing state X benefits candidate Y.’
hey julia
Way cool. Those boys (and girls now) are seriously hard core. They also go a long way to making life here much better.
johnSwifty, I am SO stealing that!
That is what I believe. All I have to do is look at the folks coming to the food bank for food and I know what we have to do. So if some self absorbed person thinks it is all about them (take their ball and go home) I hope I am not the one serving you in a food line in four years.
Nice.
Thanks and hello Julia.
Bobby! I can not! believe you Typed that whole entire giggggggggle,( silly giggly feel energy TOTally.)
LOL!
Correct. It’s grow up time. We have bigger fish to fry, as it were.
Does being a front-pager “entitle” someone to hands-off treatment when they are being antagonistic to the values of the site?
Of course, perhaps I’m mistaken…maybe getting McCain elected is what FDL is all about???? Threatening to actively work against the Democratic nominee…a nominee that just gave a speech espousing almost all the progressive values that we have hoped would be raised in this campaign…is that in the spirit of a “progressive”?
it’s the GOPNSDAPP
I will bet you $100 that clinton does not get out of the race until Florida and Michigan are fully seated as voted.
THAT is what I ready from her speech tonight, and has become a matter of principle to her. And the minute that happens, ye olde magic number goes up again….
I am a Category 5 typist.
;)
hey, Suz.
Congratulations on the beautiful grandkids.
front pagers are held to the same standards as the commenters
i’ve moderated front pagers before and am sure i will have to do so in the future
Seriously. We were back there a few years ago and went on a tour. LOL one of the captains recognized my uncle. Next thing you know, the young guys were all crowded around my uncle listening to his stories. It was very nice
She’s BK. She’s out totally once the alimony agreement is in place.
OMG
that is sooooooo right!
Thank u! tw3k!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it’s funny that MSNBC doesn’t even let Tucker in the same studio with their Late Nite crew. Maybe that’s an example we should think about for Late Nite FDL.
Did I say that out loud?
jeebus, therre’s an angry little man giving me a headache and a pain in the ass at the same time.
Were I advising that man, I’d tell him to go outside, get in the car if you have to, and find the nearest solid wall (concrete-block walls are optimum). Punch said wall as hard as you can.
I guarantee you will forget all about being angry.
Hey, you.
Say what out loud? ; )
*giggggggle, to chuckle to loud snuck!

sometimes you have to leave folks where they’re at. they may catch up later but we can’t lag back with them. We have work to do.
thank you wobblys
how’s the littlebits?
Not at all, have at it.
I only ask that ther are no personal attacks, that is a long standing assumption here.
I am not saying I agree with anything Paul is saying, I am just reiterating what I understand to be the sites wishes.
Don’t look at me, dude. Nothing is more important than taking down McCain and preventing that third Bush term, especially with a Supreme Court spot almost certainly on the line.
Yeah, regardless of whether it was Hillary or Obama, half of progressives wouldn’t be getting their first choice nominee, but you go to war with the nominee you have, not the nominee you wish you had, and you do the best you can with them to reach the goal of Someone Other Than McCain in the White House.
um yeah but I won’t tell *g*
by about the same # of votes that was her “margin” until today, iirc, according to the “no caucus” math.
Hey, Wobbs
I posted a comment to you that got EPUd. If you’re still here, can you hang around another 5 min or so while I track it down?

*waves at Suze* welcome back, Goddess of Late Nite!
just talked to Pop Princess, yes, concerned mom here called her. She and my sis decided not to sit in traffic so are sitting in a bar waiting for traffic gridlock to subside. Crowd in bar is totally psyched, as was crowd at speech plus everyone afterward on streets. Didn’t sound like rowdy drunks (i’ve heard enough of those type of crowds to know the diff, never mind how i know!) but sure were fired up with enthusiasm. Ended conversation because someone came sreaming into bar with Obama’s book, waving it and yelling “OBAMA SIGNED MY BOOK!” Crowd started chanting “YES WE CAN!”
I tell ya, the man can inspire the youngsters like nothing i’ve ever seen.
Rachel absolutely schooled Tucker.

Rock on! Speaking of which, I’m gonna go load up the java machine and set it for the morning.
I was a great night. Obama is a great candidate, and America will have a fantastic new chapter of history when he is the President. For the first time since Herb Brooks took a bunch of Iron Range kids to the Olympic games, am I *really* proud to be an American! Ciao ;-)
Tell Paul he’s made a Cinnamon GRAPE comment a few threads back.
I had a great night last night, and today has been a good one as well.
Let The Healing Begin.
lilbit tore a ligament in her knee. It is healing nicely but until she can climb steps, we’re camping out downstairs.
weebits is so big (i can no longer hold her with two hands) I’m taking photos of her this week and posting. She is a eating, sleeping, pooping and playing machine.
Ancient history.
Moving on.
i will admit to also moderating myself
Exactly! That’s the Clintons’ mantra: “Anything can happen, upto and, and perhaps even after, inauguration day.” Assassinations? Scandals? Who knows what?

And, holy crap, it just hit me. This guy is of MY generation. Wow. Holy fork. I feel like I’ve been living under a rock for being so unaware of this potential in MY age cadre. Hope that makes sense…I’m only saying this is my little epiphany for the evening. Now that’s inspiring–reminds me that the hard work to come really IS my work, too.

Don’t worry. Ever too soon you’ll see a president younger than you.
Some of us lost our choice months ago. I am not a huge fan of either Obama or Clinton, but either is infinitely preferable to McCrazy. It is time to calm down, take a deep breath, and get on to what really matters – kicking Republican ass.
I’d really like us to do without the “a” word.
Um, wouldn’t it be kinda worrisome if she *didn’t*?
damn, there I go crying again
Hell, my choice didn’t even run.
i dunno why but FF3 crashes on your page.

It’s that a mortal sin?
It’s not dark over there, Bobby.

aww thanks. We’re just so happy to see this day come. It is truly historic and especially when you think of the civil rights movement being only 45 years ago.
“Four Gore years!”
oops, sorry, that slipped out.

I think RC1 is out already.
you done diggin up that yard?
you’re all too late for the zed~bwahaha
So, cut to the chase, Hillary is campaigning for the VP position on the Dem ticket, and is holding her concession and support hostage.
I’d be disappointed in Barak if he granted it to her. She is on record saying that, as a commander-in-chief, his opponent is more qualified than he is. If he caves on this, she will have proven him so.
Tuttle got dibs?
He’s married for crying out loud!
Might just be. I don’t see how they’ll make that happen, but I’m not good at reading minds, particularly politicians’.
All I know is that she’s a professional politician, and is probably as good at figuring out which way the votes are going to go as anyone. She’ll drop out when it’s over, and not before.
Yup! It just hasn’t hit the update repositories yet.
Dang Skippy! Don’t be messing with her! ;-)
Shh.. a mere inconvienence…!
LOL1 HELL no!
My back was killing me and it hasn’t stopped raining since.
I have more to put in too.
Been saying that for quite a while. They aren’t calm yet. Looks like it’s going to take something more.
I think Hillary is playing a very nasty little game. I think she’s decided that only the 2209 number, including full votes for both MI and FL is the magic number that she will accept and nothing less. So I went and did some math and figured it out. He’s currently showing 2156 delegates which leaves another 53 delegates to reach the magic number. The only problem is there are now only 43 uncommitted delegates by my count, unless there are more than 823 and I didn’t know about them. So she’s going to try to shake down Obama or threaten a convention fight which can’t possibly do her any good regardless. If I were he, I would take her aside and privately tell her I will give her anything else that is within my power that she desires with the exception of the VP position. I’d then explain that she can never be his VP because she had made it a public demand and for him to give in to her attempted extortion right out of the gate would make him look too weak to be presidential, so no, it’s not ever gonna happen. Thank you very much for your offer, but if it comes to that, I’ll find another way! If she walks away, you go public with her extortion attempt. It’ll be good practice to show the country how you treat a tyrant who tries to extort or coerce you. This takes it to the people, and I think they’ll rally for him. Here’s the thing: if she’s so good, how did her sure thing, inevitable campaign come to lose against a come-from-behind new kid on the block?
By the way, if Paul is still around, there were more than 20 debates; I was so sick of those interminable debates it wasn’t even funny. More than six is too many as far as I’m concerned and less than that if I have to watch McSame in them!
I like the way you think.
Ding.
Today even McCauliff publicly stipulated to a 2,118 line. Barack is now, as you indicate, at 2,156. So, yeah, keep trying to do the post-finale Lucy With The Football schtick. Good for laughs at this point.
Her “leverage” is circumscribed, and diminishes daily now. She’s BK, and needs alimony. But, he has Polaroids.
;)
You are so completely delusional. All the Clintons are proving right now is how bad they are at the art of politics at this point. The supers are gone forever. They are flooding to Obama faster than they can be counted. He took 10 of hers tonight, and I’m willing to bet that by August he will have nearly 700 of them. She is now 225 total delegates behind. By the end of the week, or perhaps tomorrow night, that number will be 300+. I figure she should concede just to try to stop the erosion.
Why would Obama want to negotiate with her right now while his power at the convention only continues to grow due to her refusal to concede? Their discussion will be for each side to outline what they want. Unless she concedes nothing will change, except for the ever-increasing number of Obama delegates.
hey! i resemble that remark….
I don’t.
I’m just going to write this and get out of here, cause I’m starting to feel like I need a bucket.
Hillary Clinton has been in this race for a long time, as have her advisors and campaign people. She’s not the type who gives up, nor would I expect her to be. As long as she thinks she has a chance, she’ll stay in. If she can make deals, she’ll make deals. If she can get favorable rulings on contested elections, she’ll try to do that. She owes that to herself and her people.
I wouldn’t expect any less of Obama, either.
Neither one of these people was my first choice as a candidate. Neither was my third choice until the field narrowed. But they’re going to stay in it and that’s how it ought to be. I don’t want a President who’s going to give up on something important because a few morons are going to decide that he or she is the anti-Christ.
So revel in the suspense, hold your breath, or whatever it takes. But please try not to write things like those shits at Red State do.
Anyway, my nausea level’s been reached. Goodnight.
Superdelegates…indeed any delegate…can change their votes. There is no LEGAL binding force that requires them to support the candidate for which they were selected. It’s all a matter of trust and loyalty and honesty. That’s why, when Hillary started saying that “no delegate is actually ‘pledged’” there was some concern in the Obama campaigns lower ranks at allowing individuals that had not had a history of campaign support to be elected as delegates. Ultimately the senior members of the campaign rtold the state delegations to not limit elected delegates to early supporters. This allowed many Edwards, Richardson and Kucinich supporters to serve as Obama delegates.
The fact is that Hillary needs not stay in the race to be a “replacement nominee” in the case of such a disaster as you suggest. If there was a verifiable scandal, a disabling illness, or other catastrophe the convention would move to nominate OTHER replacement candidates. If Hillary acquiesced NOW it would not harm her in the least, and might even help her if she acted quickly to heal the wounds amongst her supporters and achieve party unity. It would actually be against her if she ill-served the nominee and poisoned the waters before the convention. It might result in a move to nominate a third, currently disinterested nominee.
I am not worried about the 2209 scenario. The RBC vote on halving the FL delegation was unanimous. All Clinton supporters on the RBC, even including Ickes, voted for the FL compromise. To try to reverse the FL seating with a credentials committee fight in Denver would be shameless hypocrisy on the part of the Clinton campaign.
So that leaves just MI, where the RBC vote was 19-8, including several Clinton supporters (but not Ickes for sure). The problem Ickes had was not halving the delegate strength, but in the split between Clinton and Obama (69-59, at half a vote each), which Ickes claimed was “hijacking” of 4 Clinton delegates to Obama. That when Ickes said that the Clinton campaign reserved the right to take a fight to the credentials committee, over these 4 delegate switches.
Why does the Clinton campaign care about these 4 delegates? Because if they were changed to Clinton, then the Clinton campaign could claim that the popular vote in MI was valid even though Obama’s name was not on the ballot. If Clinton gets popular votes from MI, then she might (not sure) be able to say that more people voted for her in the nomination than did for Obama. In that case, the superdelegates should switch from Obama to Clinton, giving her the nomination.
The above won’t fly. So it’s back to using the tapes of Barack, Michelle, and Jeremiah doing God knows what kind of break dancing at their wedding reception.
I can understand a lot of what you are saying, except for the suspense part. There is no suspense.
Once Obama hits 2300 I think they might see the light.
how FUN does it get>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
this is just way kewl, bobbyG.
wow

Yep, two words.

Fun, fun, fun…
It just amazes me to watch the art of politics being played so poorly. Supers are going to be pressured to leave Clinton long after it is even necessary. My 2300 number was conservative; 2500 is possible.
Yep.
‘night, ‘pups. Fixin’ to crash.
nite bobby
great night
Well, yer probably long gone by now, sorry I missed it.
I have no problem with Hillary’s quest except her tactics.
I saw that with Ickes whining about 4 delegates. All I know is I’d feel a lot more comfortable if he surpassed the 2209 number, even if he had to poach another 10 of her delegates to do it. It’s not stealing if they go with him willingly.
I saw where Jimmy Carter declared for Obama, but has anyone heard who else? Is there a published list somewhere? I wanted to know if Gore declared today, or Pelosi or Reid?
Although I really am trying to be off to bed, I wrote the following comment at the treehouse, and decided to post it here too, in case anybody is confused by Hillary Clinton’s claim to have won “The” popular vote.
————–
let me just say for the record (vis a vis Hillbuzz) that there is no such thing as “The” popular vote, anymore than there is such a thing as Karl Rove’s “The” math.
Each state has its own delegate selection rules, approved (except in Florida and Michigan) by the DNC.
Some of those rules provide for primary elections, which must also be provided for by state law and are financed by the taxpayers.
Other states use alternative means, such as caucuses and conventions, to select their delegates to teh Democratic National Convention. By their very nature, these states produce a much lower “voting” turnout than primary states, as it requires a much stronger commitment to spend 3 to 4 hours or more at a caucus or a convention than it does to drop by a polling place and check off a ballot.
Thus the number of people who show up at caucuses or conventions tends to be much lower than the number that tend to show up for primary elections.
Thus caucus or convention participation numbers bear no real relationship to primary election voter turnout numbers. They are like apples and oranges. Or, perhaps, like pennies and quarters.
So there is no comprehensive national primary vote, or “popular vote.” There is a combination of turnout numbers from over 50 primary elections, caucuses or conventions, which are not fungible.
The “popular” vote that Hillary Clinton continues to cite does not exist. It is a myth. She knows that. Her campaign staff knows that. And the media, which facilitate her bogus “popular vote” claims, know that.
It is The Big Lie.
The nomination will be based on votes at the national convention by delegates. Some of those delegates will have been selected by state-by-state primary “popular” votes, others selected by other means.
Some, the superdelegates, have a vote at the convention by virtue of the position they hold as an elected official or as a Democratic Party official. They are selected by a wide variety of means.
For example, Hillary Clinton’s bogus “popular vote” does not include the hundreds of thousands of votes that elected a member of Congress, making him or her a superdelegate with the vote at the convention, perhaps a superdelegate who will choose to vote for Barack Obama.
“The” popular vote is a Hillary Clinton myth.
and now, once again, good night.
Well, I’m still not going to apologize for jumping all over Hillary Clinton last night. She’s a devious woman and the fact she wants to meet with Obama personally makes me think someone had better frisk her real good before letting her into the room! Jees. She is EXACTLY the kind of person I do not want running this nation. Same goes for Johnny McTeleprompter. These two are on the same page no matter how hard they try to say they’re not. Both would love to be opposite of each other because they can coddle each other, whereas, Obama makes them have to defend their positions which makes them very uneasy!
Don’t be surprised if Hillary shows up at the convention in Colorado asking for a Citizen’s Arrest of Barack Obama because she feels her nomination was stolen from her! Trust me on this. She will do anything to protect her record, her husband’s record, George Bush, and George H.W. Bush. They’re family and just like the Mafia…..THEY WILL GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO PROTECT EACH OTHER!
I think the Hillary supporters who will be voting for John McTeleprompter should switch to the republic party, because thanks to Barack Obama we don’t need them in the Democratic party, because everyday there are more people becoming Democrats JUST TO SUPPORT HIM! And I know this…
….because last night I did some phonebanking with my local Democrats. Our goal last night was to reach out to Unaffiliated voters to see where they are right now in their decision making. Well, Barack Obama came up a lot and a couple men told me they had been lifelong republicans and have FINALLY HAD IT with their party. They’re supporting Barack and have switched to the Democratic Party! Loooooooooooooooooving it.
Thank you Barack Obama! You’ve energized our country in a POSITIVE DIRECTION and we are all looking forward to taking the ride with you!
