I am also put off by some of the anti-Bush stuff. Distancing himself from Bush is one thing, but he almost exclusively (as best I can tell) criticizes him, giving Bush little credit (tax cuts, Supreme Court appointments and yes, the surge, which Bush ordered not McCain).

I had the pleasure of listening to a Robert Greenwald interview on the radio today (of brave new films) and he was explaining how many of the old guard really don’t get that they cannot say one thing in one arena and then turnaround and say another somewhere else. McCain just doesn’t get it nor do many others (George macaca Allen).

I also learned that the 100 years comment was caught by a citizen not network news. Greenwald also makes the point that it is not only getting the video but being able to distribute it so quickly w/o depending on network news that is making the difference. No wonder hojo wants to shut down youtube.

History was made today people I don’t think any GOP Presidential candidate has come in third in the last Presidential Primary before.
McCain came in third in Montana a Western State McCain is a Western Senator you would think he could carry the West. The GOP needs to win the West and South to hold on to enough of a Senate majority to sustain a filibuster.
Barring a Coup the race is over today there is no way the GOP can win if they have to defend the West and Obama’s juicing the African American voter turnout means that the GOP has to spend money to defend the South.
Does anyone think that McCain can make up for his weakness in the South and West,in the Midwest, New England or the West Coast?

I think your right. It’s been a bit dizzying to keep track of such things, what with many of her pledged Super Delegates shifting to Obama (I count ten in the last day), as well as the flood of unpledged Super D’s that have announced in local contexts.

It looks like he’s about thirty five up above the required “current” limit. But if one kept the delegation split by votes, and then doubled MI and FLA he’d need about 45 (ten more). I suspect there are a lot of Clinton Super delegates that will switch tomorrow.

Folks who argue she should stay in to “guarantee” that MI and FLA get their full delegations miss the point. The best chance for such seating is if she actually concedes. This also would be the best in terms of her being “placed” in case of the (conspiracy theory) disaster. If Obama falls ill, or is otherwise incapacitated from office, before the convention…a UNITED PARTY would be a much better springboard for her to be nominated at the convention than if she pursued a divisive effort arguing that she will not give up until the actual votes at the Convention.

Prop 99 was the Initiative that was to counter the stealth Prop 98…the 98 would have prevented “rent control” on things like trailer parks and by popular election. It also prevented “imminent domain” from being applied on “non-residential” properties. Prop 98 allowed “imminent domain” but only for public purposes (blight) and limited it to properties that were not the primary residence of the owner. This pretty much closed the nasty loophole opened by the Supremes when they allowed local and state governments to apply imminent domain to allow private businesses to take over non-blighted areas because it “was a better tax base” for the government entity.

Also, Wigwam, I just read your comment. I thought the today’s scale magic number was 2118, but that’s just one delegate different. I think I got Obama’s number at 2156 from both CNN and MSNBC, but that was several hours ago. Could have changed. I found somewhere that there are 823 supers. 98 was put up by the same folks that brought us Prop 13, and really was designed to end rent control and to allow them to hold out burnt-out and decaying properties for huge amounts of “compensation”. Prop 99 was the one put forward by cities and counties to close the “loophole” but still allow for rent control and reasonable “eminent domain” due to neglect and blight. If neither passes then it’s pretty much the status quo.

Ann in AZ- Here’s a good site that has all the endorsements. They require an actual quote or statement from the office of the delegate to confirm. They used to have the alternative numbers needed in MI and FLA were admitted at full strength or “kept out”.

Things should be accurate as of tonight but there likely will be a lot of delegate shifts and additions tomorrow. Also remember that there have been over 10 Super Delegates switch from Clinton to Obama today alone, in addition to the delegates like Carter that had not announced.

Christine Pelosi announced her support for Obama, whch is, I suspect, a hint of where the “Pelosi slate” (which she was thought to belong to) will swing tomorrow. I suspect another 30-50 tomorrow…then it’ll be all over, and we’ll see lots of Super D’s switching.

Ultimately this will allow for a call at the Convention for the delegations of MI and FLA to be seated at full-strength…thus obliterating folks like P.Luk’s sour grapes…although he’ll continue to whine that it was fixed by the “back-room dealers”. But then again, it was Hillary that wanted to use the Super D’s to win this when she was behind in regular delegates. So there’s no little hypocrisy to that assertion.

The O-Man won the regualr pledged delegates by a massive amount.

I just listened to Colbert; thought it was interesting that he had George Will on who said when asked by Colbert that political parties are for the purpose of organizing our hostilities (or antagonisms or whatever the word he used was.) He had a point in that, as Colbert said, so we can group together and hate things together. Guess he isn’t that familiar with Democrats. Arianna is on Larry King right now along with Ed Schultz, who was surprisingly much more magnanimous than I would be toward Hill. A funny thing happened on my way to bed. I simply could not get Hillary’s invitation to tell her what I think out of my mind so I could rest easy. So I went to her sight and I wrote…this:

You said you want to hear what I think. Well, I hope you meant that. I am a sixty-three year old woman, but I think you stepped all over the obvious wishes of the majority of the party tonight. You disrespected your party and the candidate of that party for the purpose of demonstrating some weird unequal balance for one constituency only, your own supporters. You also seem to be attempting to extort a place on the ticket for yourself as the price for suspending your race. I doubt that your husband or you would tolerate this behavior if you were the chosen candidate. You’ve had weeks to cope with this reality which has been coming on like a train. To me, this demonstrated more clearly than ever that the party members have made the right choice. A president must be a president of all the people; not even just his own party. You seem unable to put aside your own bruised ego and lead your constituents to unity. The only question left is do you have enough leadership in you to now, finally start to lead your strays back into the fold? Are you willing to be a good Democrat now or are you going to demand a pound of flesh? Well, you asked.

Now I can’t decide whether to hit send or not! I don’t think it’s too mean. Also, I was just watching Larry King’s show, which I rarely watch, and one of them commented about her asking for comments, and he said, well, you know what they’re going to comment…they’ll ask her to keep fighting. I think maybe some of us better call her on her request for our opinions or it will all be very one sided and she’ll wallow in it!
