I agree. McCain has had how long to make his decision? Obama should have at least a month to make his choice.

They’ll use that regardless of whether HRC is on the ticket. Agreed, it will be more devastating if she is on the ticket.

I’d suggest that Obama ask HRC who she recommends as his running mate, and why.

She’s as qualified as Clarence Thomas was. Women tend to live longer than men. She’s not the best choice, but she’s not an impossible choice for the Supreme Court. I personally think she’s best suited to the Senate, unless she accepts a cabinet post from Obama.

As you know, most voters don’t hang out at FDL and other liberal blogs. I completely agree with you that identity politics is wrong and divisive, but she got almost half the votes cast in Democratic primaries. That gives her enormous leverage.

Senator Obama is probably feeling pretty good tonight.

He’s persisted and persisted and held out and finally the opposition has dissipated to nothingness.

Yep, he’s probably feeling pretty good, even generous.

When you’ve won and you’ve got the world in your hands you tend to feel generous.

To whom would he feel like giving something, tossing out a bone?

Usually you toss a bone to the person you’ve beaten, so they won’t feel too bad. At least passive-aggressives like him tend to do that.

So, if he hurries to name a veep, and there’s no real reason for that, then he’s likely to toss the bone to Hillary and then regret it for 4 or even 8 more years.

Has a veep ever been named before the convention?

Actually, we’re not stupid and neither is the Clinton team. We’ve all seen Obama’s victory coming from about 100 miles away. So, why have the Clinton team continued to press and press and press up to the end? Could it be they want to ensure that Obama sees Clinton as the biggest baddest opponent he had to defeat?

Actually, Edwards took Clinton down in Iowa and had her on the ropes before New Hampshire. If she hadn’t had help or tons of money she would’ve been out then.

Nope. The real dope is that Obama got Iowa somehow and had the nomination in his hand all the way after that. The mere fact that Clinton had the money to continue doesn’t mean much. He won Iowa and that, as it was for Kerry before, means everything.

Hey, Obama owes a lot to Kerry. Kerry gave him the convention speech slot. Maybe he should name Kerry as veep to reward him.

That’s fine if you’re just a party hack, isn’t it? But, if you really want to govern, then you want someone who will be a good partner and who would be a great president if you have to step down.

Who would be a great partner for Obama or a great president?

I can say Edwards since I’m a supporter, but the real answer is that only Barack Obama knows who would govern as he plans to do and only Barack Obama knows who he thinks would be a great president in his stead.

I hope he sleeps on it for at least a month.

There is nothing wrong with Hillary and her supporters trying to get her on the ticket. However, if they overplay their hand and it begins to look like they are attempting to force her onto the ticket then she will lose far more than the VP slot. Watching the Clinton campaign tonight trying to elbow their way into the headlines for tomorrow does not give me much confidence that they know the value of having a light touch. I also saw Stephanie Tubb Jones on TV talking about how Bush has messed the country up so much that there is enough work for two people (referring to Clinton and Obama). Maybe I’m just overly sensitive but her words came across to me as a description of a co-presidency. And we certainly don’t need another VP who grabs presidential power.

Hopefully Clinton will give a gracious speech tonight and will back off of the VP talk because I sure don’t want to see a VP campaign talked about in the media until the Convention.
