Waiting outside the metal detectors, chanting "Hil-la-ry! Hil-la-ry!", Puerto Ricans queued up to see Senator Clinton give her victory speech at the Condado Plaza today.
The victory was hardly a surprise win. And despite the delegate numbers that would indicate Obama’s "presumptive nominee" status, the Clinton camp does not appear to be giving up the ghost quite yet.
Harold Ickes, a committee member who is a Clinton adviser, said Mrs. Clinton was reserving the right to contest the decision into the summer. And her aides opened up a new argument on Sunday, claiming that by the voting is ending, she will have achieved a victory in the total popular vote and that should have more bearing on the decisions of the remaining undecided superdelegates than the fact that Mr. Obama is likely to emerge from the contest with a majority of the delegates chosen in primaries and caucuses.
Two hours later, the growing crowd in the small ballroom was still rowdy, shouting for "Senora Presidente". In the press room, two journalists standing behind me contemplated who Obama should pick for his running mate and which position Clinton would be best suited for in an Obama administration. The only recognizable face in the press corps was Joe Klein, and he’d left before they’d even opened the doors to the press.
At 5:15, salsa music started up and the crowd went wild, cheering and clapping along with the beat. The warm-up speakers took to the stage, and announced that Hillary Clinton’s win in Puerto Rico surpassed the voter margins in any of the other state primaries.
[I]n the Puerto Rico primary, Clinton won 70 percent of the male vote, 65 percent of voters under 30, 70 percent of voters who attended college, and 66 percent of voters with an income of over $50,000.
Clinton also performed strongly among those demographic groups that have long constituted the backbone of her base.
Then, two hours after her scheduled appearance, Hillary Clinton took the stage amidst the booming beat of Ricky Martin’s "Cup of Life". "Ta quiero, Puerto Rico," she exclaimed, as she launched into her victory speech, touting her record on workers’ rights and health care.
"This election is for your future. You voted for the person you think would be the stronger nominee and the stronger president."
For ten minutes more, Clinton touted her commanding lead in popular votes, how important the Hispanic vote, to which she lays claim, will be in November, and how, by her second term, Puerto Ricans will be able to vote in the general primary. Then she bade Puerto Rico "gracias" and left the podium.

Leave Mark Penn alone … he has a hard enough time with Hair Dye !
For ten minutes more, Clinton touted her commanding lead in popular votes
Commanding lead? Only by really fudging the numbers can they claim any lead at all, by not counting the caucus states and counting Michigan, where Obama took himself off the ballot after the DNC declared it invalid. Even then, it’s a miniscule number and it’s meaningless anyway since there are so many different systems among the states for counting votes. It’s a different story in the general election, where there is a uniform system for voting, and a meaningful count of popular vote. It’s an emotional appeal, but frankly it seems dishonest and unauthentic. Obama is leading the the tally that counts, and that’s delegates.
For which I will be deeply and profoundly grateful
“Grass”? where?
the three of us looked at each other and said, “did he just fart on us?” there was an odd smell that wafted after him.
And speaking of shiraz…

Didn’t you know that in Hawaii, their houses are made of Grass ?
That’s why they call it Paradise … *g*

Try the Veal … I’m here all week …
OK, I’m not gonna run with that.

Gives new meaning to “smoking or non- smoking ?” …
Did I mention the coconut brassieres…? ;-)
Yes. Her entire “popular vote” argument is disingenuous. As she and her campaign staff well know, there is no national “popular” or primary vote. Each state has its own rules, approved (except for Florida and Michigan) by the DNC, and many of those states do not provide for primaries.
Caucuses by their very nature require a significantly stronger commitment on the part of the “voter,” or attendee, and thus produce lower “vote” totals than primaries, which only require a quick checkoff of the ballot, not attendance at an hours-long meeting. There is no national “popular” vote, and it’s quite annoying that the Clinton people keep claiming that there is. They know better.
we there yet?man i don’t think i can stand one more primary thread :)
So, one day a few years ago, I’m up at Brian Head skiing, and I feel this lump in the inside chest pocket of my ski jacket as I’m gettin’ ready to jump down off the Giant Steps lift…
“Oh shit, it’s Sissy’s doobie.”
Where I’d hid it after she died and I moved all of her stuff to Vegas from Hollywood, LOL!
Medical MJ. Stuff works.

I am suffering from primary and secondary primary fatigue.
Wow, Bobby! Such a tragic loss! 8-(
We don’t say “fart” at our house anymore. We say “Did you just Tim?“
Thanks.
Sissy woulda be 40 this week. And still turning heads, no doubt. I still really miss her, seems like last week.
((( BobbyG )))
Through your words, I lived what is every parent’s nightmare. People like you are my heroes and motivate me to get up every day and write for 16 hours, in the hope that my books will positively impact your lives as you have impacted mine.
Medical MJ. Stuff works.
Damn, Skippy it does! We’re allowed to have seven plants at varying stages of development if you have a medical certificate… Which is not difficult to obtain here in the Isles…!
Just had an “invasion of the body snatchers” moment (the original…ahem) with a coworker who is very pro Hillary and very at peace with McCain raking in HRC’s frustrated and angry supporters. Convinced if HRC does not win, the country is lost. Obama is nothing. Whaaaaaaaaa??????
Wow. What industrial strength kool-aid are they drinking? The intensity of the character assassination and the contempt for BO’s lack of experience. I was stunned by her ferocity about that. In fact, I wonder if REVERSE ageism is going on here? I honestly don’t think it is racism.
I loved Edwards, but find comfort in Ted Kennedy, Caroline K, Dodd, Richardson and Edwards ENDORSING Obama. My friend told me it was time for me to THINK FOR MYSELF AND RECOGNIZE BO’S INCOMPETENCE. “Maybe in 10 years he’ll be ready…. ” she conceded…
Whatever spin the Clinton’s are working on their supporters, I am awed (and worried) by the passion they have inspired.
It does show me that there is a chance that the Dems may be sabotaged by HRC’s ME OR NOTHING … OR MCCAIN… mandate.
I mean, I watched Harriet Christian and shook my head. But this was a woman friend I respect a lot. And there was a “pod people” quality to her defensiveness. Whoooaaaa.
Yes, but that cheerful sound when the cork pops out…
I know, I was just ribbing you … getting ready for the CFL rivalry between Winnipeg & Toronto … *g*
I don’t care what excuse people like that give – it’s about color and “not like me” and other racist things. I just don’t believe them. ” He’s not old enough” – just doesn’t figure for me. Do any of these people remember Jack Kennedy – was he old enough?
You’ll have to find someone else. You’d be hard pressed to find someone with less interest in sports than I have.
Thanks. A nightmare it indeed was. FUCK! Fuckity Fuck Fuck Fuck…
But, when I look around at the undeserved nightmares visited upon people around this planet ongoing, I have to keep stuff in perspective.
Scroll to the bottom here for a pic of Sissy and her sister, ages 6 and 4.
Why does everyone pretend that the dope they smoke is for medicinal purposes? I guess what I am saying is that almost everyone in my life (everyone!) has tried it once. Many try it weekly. There was a party across the way recently and the neighborhood smelled like a bong.
I wouldn’t fret too much, as Obama is drawing record shattering numbers virtually everywhere he makes an appearance… Plus, many of the Primaries/Caucuses #’s had Obama ahead in votes over McInsane’s votes, irregardless of Hill’s votes… Something you don’t hear the MSM ever mentioning…!
Who’s the Eskimos’ opponents? Calgary? ;-)
This is the most serious issue facing the Dems and why the Repugs have run American for most of the past 30 years.
The Left let perfect be the enemy of good, the Repugs unite and fight as one, knowing they’ll all get their slice of the pie anyways …
Yep … the Battle of Alberta is alive and well …
She is Asian… and it was like talking to a wall. 100% convinced Obama is TOTALLY INEPT to be president. She copped to not liking some of HRC’s latest blunders… but still ….. NO OBAMA AT ANY COST!!!!!
I was stunned. I was about to email her that funny Young Hillary clip and was telling her about it. Like walking into a propeller.
What’s Ta Quiero? Is that the way they say Te Quiero in Puerto Rico? Or is Hillary butchering spanish the way Dubya does?
I have two adorable angels and am a vocal proponent for stem cell research for this reason … when it comes to saving our children, we should leave no stone unturned for curing these terrible afflictions.
We had to “suck it up” when Edwards walked away. But we didn’t turn rabid against the other candidates. And Edwards was a statesman.
When you cast a vote, there is an element of prayer and trust. Even after 9/11 I said the prayer that Bush would be lifted into competence (which sadly did not begin to happen). But this steely conviction stuff. How has this been going on? I feel like I have been spending all my time with a like-minded choir. I thought the other choir was Repubs. Not fellow Dems.
Do football fields in Canada still have 110 yards?
Their own will convince them to change, a lot will change in 5 months of campaigning …
…butchering spanish the way Dubya does?
Not just spanish…! ;-)
Yep, and wider too…!
Yep, some doofus sued to change them to metric … last we heard, he was adrift on some melting iceberg in the Bay of Fundy …
CTuttle, has the new job begun? Won’t be grass houses there!
I, too, believe it is racism. It is a dark secret little place where people tuck their own self hatred.
I hope so. But people (and life) are like ocean liners. They can’t make hairpin turns.
The right’s argument against stem cell research is ill conceived! Many righties utilize fertility clinics. Neither the righty couples who use them, nor the churches they attend have a damn thing to say about the embryos that fertility clinics freeze and eventually discard.
The Bay of Fundy? Isn’t that where they buried Jerry Falwell at sea?
Still awaiting the physical… They said it’d be sometime this week they’ll let me know when they’ve scheduled ‘em for us!
Grass, Glass …
Toe- may- tah, Toe- mah- tah … *g*
Have we recovered from Thers thread last night ?
Heh, everything else is in metric…! ;-)
But don’t discount ageism, either. That one ain’t pretty! Young pup coming on board, who does he think he is! All hype and no substance. That is what I discern. There is a generational divide going on.
And we need unity between these generations … for a paradigm shift to a partnership not patriarchal government. When I hear the lack of experience drum beat… I think they are going with reverse ageism at least overtly. Yeah, the covert racism in some … both genders … definitely ain’t pretty.
I liked that Senator who said that those who’re against stem cell should swear to not use it when they face fatal diseases that it can cure …
I could not agree more.
Enjoy your children intensely every single day, my friend.
BTW, Proud Gwandaddy can report that Keenan just got “Outstanding Male Student of the Year” at his middle school.
He recently got a full ride scholarship to a private high school, too.
Life is interesting.
Well, the metric system does make things seem larger … *g*
Gawd, I hope so.
707.
Congrats to Keenan and to proud grandpa.
That was funny. Which reminds me of Steve AR, because one other time we started in on fuckery, he was surpised. I guess he disappeared, but I miss him…hope he is well.
Thanks. Keenan is da Bomb.
I gotta update that site.
Woo Hoo, Congrats Keenan & Grandpa!
Life is indeed interesting … one of my fav quotes is “Events do not define you, they reveal you” …
Ol’ Nancy Reagan sure changed her righty tune didn’t she? They just can’t think beyond their own immediate selfish needs. Can’t think that far ahead.
Congratulations! Does he live with you?
What does Keenan think of Obama ? The youth in Canada are thrilled beyond measure about BO, his demeanor, etc. …
I’m sure Steve is just fine … enjoying life as it were …
No, Keenan and his Mom live about 2 miles from us here on the south side. She’s the Executive Director of first Tee of Southern Nevada.
My Danielle is also da Bomb. Takes no prisoners. Wonder where she picked that up?
;-)
Keenan digs Obama, yes.
Thanks for the reassurance. I was just so startled by my friend’s conviction that Obama can’t handle the job. And there was no reasonable evidence. Just trust in HRC’s talking points. We had had numerous conversations a while ago when I was working for Edwards. Hadn’t taken her political temperature in a while, and got BURNED by the heat.
Well, I’m sure the wimmins like reporting their weight in Kgs as opposed to lbs…! As 1 pound (lb) 16 oz= .454 Kg…! ;-)
Hi Water Tiger. Howdy all.
Did she really say “Ta Quiero” and not “Te Quiero”?
Obama will unite Americans. Wonder who his VP choice will be?
EDWARDS !!! *g*
Yo me fui a Puerto Rico una vez. I don’t remember any special accent or dialect whereby Borinquenos dencen Ta Quiero, ni Te Quiero. I think Hillary is pulling a Dubya en espanol.
Howdy, Tex!
Edwards would help him on the ticket for sure. But am torn about Edwards for AG!!!!
OT:
FEMA strikes again
1004 days since the hurricane, and they’re kicking people out of the trailer parks — including many people who are now homeless.
Howdy CT
AFAIK, ellos no dicen Ta Quiero.
Keenan & Grandpa!
Uh, I think he’s now eclipsing me in height. I gotta get him out on the court again and spank his black ass one last time at “21″ before he starts uniformly whompin’ my Geologic-time-moves Old School butt.
That totally sux.
I think its gonna be the hawkish former Republican Jim Webb.
((((( Betsy )))))
She musta been usin’ her Montana accent, seein’ as how she’s punched Cows in Big Sky country an’ all … *g*
OMG! Edwards as AG. Oh! the glorious havoc to be wreaked upon the eminently deserving.
He is so good looking and Gramps is not too bad either. :)
Has anyone had the heart to tell Hillary that PR can’t vote in the GE?
Looks “10″ …. Sentiment for being a vet… “10″ …. what’s the point average for the rest of progressive issues?
That isn’t what Mark Penn said!
Look at this kid. Has he not got the Will Smith goin’?
He makes me laugh all the time, too. We have so much fun.
As someone wrote a while back, he has been taking names and ready to kick some corporate (and corporate crony) butt!!!!
link not working
LOL … Good Luck … experience beats speed … *g*
Bad link

Age and guile beats youth and skill every time.
;)
Wacky linky… Too many http’s
Not so hot. He has great potential appeal to Republicans. He was Raygun’s Sec of the Navy. He’s a fiery speaker and a tough guy type. Got a kid in Iraq. He sponsored the popular new GI bill that all the rethugs want to nix. I don’t like him, but he’s be a good pick for crossover votes.
Siun upstairs with another sobering reminder of the costs of our invasion
Except in the case of HRC and BO!
Yeah, I botched that. See subsequent.
Isn’t that what Hill is clinging to…? Age and guile?
LOL!
My cousin voted for him in VA … but said he seemed a chauvinist. But the GI Bill gave me hope … maybe he will get liberalized with his new group of friends! And I hope he will draw votes away from MCCAIN!!!!
I have to take issue with anyone who claim that a certain cannot effectively campaign unless she/he is on the ticket … that’s a recipe for disaster … we need all hands on deck !
… certain “Dem” …
Doug Feith is something.
Confused … what do you mean?
great picture.
Very handsome boy, BobbyG.
Yes. Like I said, he’s not my cup of tea, but he’d probably be a good pick to win b/c of the low information voters, swing voters.
Well, I’ll bet you a dollar to a donut Hill will “campaign” in a very half-assed way if she’s not on the ticket. Like she campaigned for Ned Lamont.
I don’t know how we can expect Joe Lieberman in a pantsuit to be anything other than what she is, a power-greedy apparition who claims to be a Democrat but in fact, acts (and votes) just like a republican on the issues that matter the most (the war, the war and the war).
If Hill is elected prezzie, we WILL have four to eight more years of war, you can bet on that. She’s as much in bed with the Saudis as any Carlyle group dickhead, and she’ll look after her own interest first.
So, after he made his middle school varsity hoops squad (his Momma finally relented and let him play, despite his tennis priority), I took him to the Henderson Center one day, and we threw down the “21.”
One game I had him 17-0 before he knew what hit him. Gwandaddy shoots 80-90% from the stripe consistently. You let me get to the line by disrespecting my apparently lame old white ass, I will make you pay. My little teardrop pull-up baby hook — shit, you got no answer for that, and it puts me at the stripe. Cha-ching…
Which I did (he was by no means my 1st victim; I routinely dust cats nominally much “better” than me).
Those days, however, are numbered. This I know.
And me, I humbly admit. He woke me up when he spoke on CSpan one day! (reminded me of Colin Firth… okay… will try to stick to the issues … and be a better Dem.)
That was my first thought as well.
Transcript: Hillary Clinton Delivers Remarks at San Juan, Puerto Rico Celebration Event
Hillary Clinton delivered the following remarks at a victory celebration in San Juan, Puerto Rico tonight:
Thank you so much. I have four words for you: Te quiero Puerto Rico!
I’ve suggested to people that both of these candidates can sling mud and do so willingly. And, that the best way to avoid that was to nominate Edwards.
Well, Edwards is supporting Obama, so that ought to tip the balance quite solidly.
But, in the event it doesn’t and there is no resolution on the first ballot at the convention, doesn’t that free every delegate? Which candidate’s delegates haven’t drunk so much cool-aid?
What if there was no clarification? Could those delegates see clear to drop the fighting and skip on to Edwards?
(whistling past the convention)
It seems clear to me that this applies most to Hillary in this campaign. She was quiet early-on and willing to let her inevitability do the job. But, after that she had to start scrapping and she has done that with great dedication and vigor, but also with deception, triangulation, lies, nonsense and garbage.
I haven’t been fond of Obama and the race issue either.
It isn’t so clear how anyone will work out as president, but we can certainly look at their behavior under the pressure of the campaign.
No delegates are actually bound to vote a particular way.
But if you think the MSM would call any nominee a legitimate nominee — who wasn’t those two remaining — you are whistling indeed.
I’d love to see the convention bolt and vote for Edwards. But it would be a disaster, called illegitimate by the media and their owners, the GOP. So we get what we get.
And work damn hard to get him elected in November.
I agree. Or as they say, “stress reveals who you really are.”
I know I clung to the word “suspended” when Edwards bowed out. And thought he had momentum building steadily though slowly. There was a sense of unity still with the “competition” then. Principle above personality.
I said the other day Hillary reminds me of Alec Guinness in Bridge on the River Kwai, so caught up in her focus and will, she has lost the BIG PICTURE.
1,859 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen MarkH and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Don’t lose perspective here…there is no way that Obama doesn’t get a first ballot nomination. What Mrs. M*Clinton is doin’ is the same thing she and Mr. Bill did ta Al Gore and John Kerry, she’s tryin’ ta desperately ta bring Obama’s numbers down so that the general election is close enough for the fascists to steal. She knows ,however, that this is a tsunami year and McCrazy is unelectable, hence the increased desperation and threats to take this all the way to the convention.
My daughter is a member of U of MN Students for Obama and she’s workin the Tuesday night rally in the St. Paul Civic Center…they expect 20,000+ and the state DFL is lookin for Obama’s coat tails ta get another Dem Senator and increased margins in the state legislature. As for their expectations with a M*Clinton candidacy…well, not so much!
KEEP THE FAITH, PASS THE AMMUNITION AND REMEMBER IT’S ALL ABOUT US NOT HER!!!
quiero que se haga
Amnesia?
I think I’d remember having amnesia.
