After seeing “Reds” when it first came out I got the urge to find out more about the revolution. I started with Reed’s “Ten Days That Shook the World” then managed to obtain first English editions of Trotsky’s “1905″ and his 3 volume “History of the Russian Revolution.” Recently got a reprint of Louise Bryant’s “Six Red Months in Russia,” which is in my “to read” stack. That period and what occurred is very interesting. From an organizing point of view there are a lot of tactics that still work today.

what we have now is close to the worst of all possible options.

IMO it was set up that way to favour the establishment candidates.

thanks. i think your idea of balancing the regional representation and not allowing one region to decide the primary makes sense. would want to see how it would actually be implemented though.

basically it seems that what we have now is close to the worst of all possible options.

The vigour of the debates. Those were people who had been repressed for centuries and suddenly had a chance to voice their opinion and actually have a say in the way they would be governed. Messy, loud, all those things. I’d rather see the process work that way than one person committees. The eventual outcome may have sucked but that wasn’t the fault of the common folks.
