I saw Lanny Davis in the lobby here at the Rules Committee meeting. I had my video camera and I wanted to ask him what he thought of his good friend Joe Lieberman who is now running around saying Barack Obama is the candidate of choice of Hamas. But steam was coming out of Lanny's ears and it didn't seem like the best of times:
A brief but spittle-filled shouting match broke out in the halls of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee hearing on Saturday between a committee member and a surrogate for Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Lanny Davis, the colorful, committed, and sometimes unrestrained Clinton supporter deliberately interrupted a small gathering of press who had come to hear Jon Ausman, a DNC member, explain the basis of his proposed Florida delegation compromise.
"I'll tell you what," Davis chimed in, "the Clinton campaign's position has been misrepresented by this wonderful love-fest, and the lady who testified for us was saying that the Obama campaign and your proposal is not generous. But it is in fact unfair. If you want to hear, now that the love-fest is over, why don't you come over and hear the counterpoint to this completely disingenuous argument.
Lanny, Lanny. Please. In the words of a wise man, can't we all just get along?
My brief and unhappy experience with the hate and vitriol of bloggers on the liberal side of the aisle comes from the last several months I spent campaigning for a longtime friend, Joe Lieberman.
This kind of scary hatred, my dad used to tell me, comes only from the right wing--in his day from people such as the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy, with his tirades against "communists and their fellow travelers." The word "McCarthyism" became a red flag for liberals, signifying the far right's fascistic tactics of labeling anyone a "communist" or "socialist" who favored an active federal government to help the middle class and the poor, and to level the playing field.
Anger just isn't the way, Lanny. Politics is a gentleman's game, part of the fine tradition of Cicero and the great orators. We lower ourselves and our American ideals when we lose our temper and engage in this kind of coarse, angry, spittle-flecked vitriol.
I really wanted to introduce myself and give him a hail-fellow-well-met over Lieberman's senate victory (something he is no doubt proud of), but I have to say I feared for my very safety lest I approach him and he not be able to control his terrible temper.
Oh for shame.

Leisure Guy!
Well, it’s finally over…! ;-)
Jane, you and Marcy deserve rewards for your selfless navigating of the DNC RBC today.
Guess they reached a decision on the delegates?
Don Fowler deserves some kudos. He was the one Clinton supporter who was a class act today. I bet he was ashamed by those in the audience.
Obama, apparently tired of preacher controversies- quit his church.
Now we know why St. Ronnie never went to church.
McBush apparently goes ta some southern baptist church—someone has ta dig up some preacher dirt THERE.
Since when? I remember every election since LBJ and I think I’d be more likely to use the phrase “Knife fight”. Like it or not, politics is a contact sport. And the Clintons play it better than most.
Still, Lanny’s emotional state says volumes, doesn’t it? I’m hearing from a friend who is there that the Clintons expected a lot more support for their positions and are feeling betrayed because that simply hasn’t happened. Jane, can you confirm/refute that?
Boxturtle (Hillary, there is no shame in losing if you’ve fought your best)
Barack Obama is the candidate of choice of Hamas.
But I thought Joe was Obama’s senate Mentor I thought Obama campaigned for Joe? Oh wait Bush is giving Saudia Arabia Nuclear Technology that would make Joe Ossama’s favorite candidate after all Ossama has so many ties to Saudia Arabia giving them Uranium is the same as giving him Uranium.
This deal needs to be stopped NOW!
But Joe will never criticize Bush. Will Obama will Hilary I normally support Obama but you can’t ignore this issue.
The Bush administration has pledged to support Saudi Arabia’s nuclear power program, including supplying enriched uranium for nuclear reactors. The agreement came out of President Bush’s visit to the Saudi kingdom last week, during which Bush also pledged new US assistance in guarding Saudi oil reserves.

Lanny should have been wearing a Craftsman™ Cap, he’s turned into such a tool.

Apparently Hillary picked up an additional 30 delegates or so..Not a bad day’s work.
((( Jane, Marci and ALL the back-room Techies )))
Awesome Day..So much fun…Thank-you :)
I assume John McCain will plead ignorance of this deal or get mixed up between Saudia Arabia and Israel and claim that we are giving Israel the Nuclear technology.
John is Making second term Reagen seem swift.
Thanks!
Ickes, call the Waaaahhhhbulance.
I only wish I could have been there when you ran into Lanny Davis, Jane. I would have protected you. :)
Thanks to Jane, Marcy, Redshift, and all the other firepups and ‘wheelers for the firsthand look at the sausage-making. Wheeeee!
(Present at the creation of a new media paradigm, etc}
I’m hearing from a friend who is there that the Clintons expected a lot more support for their positions and are feeling betrayed because that simply hasn’t happened.
_____
Chuck Todd noted that this demonstrates that the Democratic Party is no longer subservient to the Clintons
Oh, and Lanny Davis can suck. on. this.
Editor’s note: This story corrects and updates one issued under the same headline April 8.
PHOENIX (ABP) — John McCain has a deep and personal Christian commitment despite his reluctance to speak publicly about it, according to the man McCain calls his pastor.
Dan Yeary, pastor of North Phoenix Baptist Church, described the Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, as “very unobtrusive” people who don’t seek special attention when they are able to come to worship. “They come in the side door. They’re very pleasant. They talk to people. They’re very approachable.”
But the man McCain calls “my family’s pastor” said his relationship with his most famous parishioner has not been a particularly close one. Yeary said he’s done the normal things a pastor would do but “no more than I would do for any church member” in the 7,000-strong congregation.
McCain, a lifelong Episcopalian, has been attending the Southern Baptist-affiliated church in Phoenix for at least 17 years. But the presumptive GOP presidential nominee has neither officially joined the congregation nor been baptized, which among Baptists is a public event associated with profession of one’s faith in Jesus. He has continued to list his faith as “Episcopal” in official congressional biographies.
But, the pastor said, lack of membership hasn’t kept McCain from becoming deeply involved in the church. “I have a good relationship with John,” Yeary said, recounting their first in-depth conversation. “I respect him as a friend. He is a very courageous man. And he has a delightful sense of humor.”
Yeary, 69, has been reluctant to talk to the news media about the McCains or his relationship with them. He has turned down many media requests in order to protect his relationship with the family and their privacy. But he initiated an interview with Associated Baptist Press in an attempt to quell continued journalistic curiosity about McCain’s faith, saying he trusts the independent national news organization’s reputation for fairness.
Well, they’ll seat all the delegates from FLA and MI with 1/2 vote each… The Grey Lady is reporting…!
CNN pundits trying to spin a convention fight, but Jeffrey Toobin says it’s over, Obama wrapped up the nomination today
Ickes is already back in bed in his hotel room.
This was Hillary’s last chance and she didn’t get all she needed. The question is will she keep fighting all the way to the convention?
If she decides to fight, her first target will be the WV supers. I predict some truly nasty TV buys in WV in that case.
Toobin is correct, IMO.
Boxturtle (They don’t make defib units powerful enough)
“This was Hillary’s last chance and she didn’t get all she needed. The question is will she keep fighting all the way to the convention?”
________
Absent a 3rd proximately emergent and even scarier “pastor” or kiddie porn turning up on Obama’s laptop shortly, the answer is ‘no.’
Clinton lost this. She lost it a long time ago. She lost it when she spurned the netroots, progressives, and the left blogosphere. She lost it when she tied her campaign to Establishment powerbrokers. She lost it when she would not apologize for her vote on the AUMF against Iraq, when she supported the war for 3 years, when she supported up to the present bellicose resolutions against Iran like Kyl-Lieberman, when she made her preposterous statement about nuking Iran if it attacked Israel whch has plenty of nukes of its own. She lost it with her phony gas tax holiday proposal. She lost it after Super Tuesday and has continued to lose it ever since.
The Democratic Party has given her every chance to choose the time and manner of her leaving. The problem is she won’t leave. A lot of hard feelings on both sides has been the result. A lot of energy better directed against McCain and the Republicans has been wasted. Now we are at a point where because she won’t do it on her own, the Democratic Party will have to do it for her.
Cicero’s vision had some fundamental flaws. It harked back to a ‘golden age’ that may never have existed. Cicero’s idea of the concordia ordinum was too idealistic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicero
Sigh! Every conservative harkens back to some golden age Reagen had the 50’s today the GOP harkens back to Reagen rather than change things to make them better conservatives always want to step back into the past.
Remember the way old SNL skit about the party guest that wouldn’t leave? LOL.
She lost it when she would not apologize for her vote on the AUMF against Iraq,
That was the first mistake the mistake that cost her the antiwar Left and hurt her on the Blogs.
I’m getting very tired at the excuse that Hillary is using to stay in the race; just in case “something” happens to Obama.
Listen, regardless of her either staying in our dropping out of the race and throwing her support to Obama, if he somehow gets struck by lightning, Hillary will become the de facto nominee without having to do a single thing except say “yes”.
In the meantime, she’s welcome to face reality any time now.
“Sniper fire” and “hardworking white Americans” completely did it for me.
Yes, I should also add that she lost it when she surrounded herself with some really awful political advisers.
No your thinking logically try thinking like a person who would listen to Mark Penn’s stupid but absolutely devoid of morals advice…and think hey thats a good idea!
I’m thinking this will go to the convention somehow unless Howard Dean starts breaking some arms.
Yep that sealed the deal now I don’t even want her as VP.
You could be right, but I think not. I think they step on her airhose this week.
Gotta run to the nursing home and see my Ma. Later.
Carry on, good ‘pups.
True but I will love reading why Hilary failed and was Mark Penn ever right about anything?
Ok but when will Clinton Concede ? She is suppose to give a speech when she concedes right?
Lanny’s behavior is just more of the same overheated emoting. I’m one of Hillary’s ‘natural constuancy’ but I just never cared for her attitude. I tried to stay objective but, ohhh, was it hard. I watched and re-watched her assassination talk, and it really seemed like she was over-tired and not really intentional, but that was nonetheless the last straw for me. I hope she has enough honorableness to get fully behind Obama and make up for the damage she has done to the Democratic Party.
Jeez, I even spell-checked. Constituancy

Historical Snark? Good one Jane!
Cicero’s last words were said to have been “there is nothing proper about what you are doing, soldier, but do try to kill me properly”. He was decapitated by his pursuers on December 7, 43 BC at Formia. His head and hands were displayed on the Rostra in the Forum Romanum according to the tradition of Marius and Sulla,

New thread !
Hello Dearie!
I don’t think she has to concede; she can just announce a suspension of her campaign the same way that John Edwards did and everyone is good to go!
This “candidate of Hamas” thing is pretty blatant - and dumb. You could simply smile in response and say something like “Actually, Obama is the candidate of pretty much the whole world or at least that part of it that would like some sanity from the U.S. for a change.”
