Julia–thanks so very much for the work put into composing this masterful post.

I have recently enjoyed re-visting the Medici era and the Catholic Church’s confrontation with modernity (as it was perceived in the 1500’s).

Other than the fact he kinda has a big gun, Donohue is much funnier than any get-off-my-lawn asshole I ever endured in 1950’s - 1960’s suburbia.

That said, the Colorado/West Coast Catholics I grew up with are more vehement than I about the sphincterific attributes of the Donohue’s Catholic League.

That said as well, progressives need to pay close attention to recent-immigrant Latino Catholics, because many are just a step away from seriously magic-oriented evangelical/revivalist stuff.

Still, thanks for the Donohue laugh…

thanks. I’m writing a post on it right now, and - even though I wasn’t there - that’s my sense, reading back through the comments. I was on the road from WA to Sacramento, and only heard about it when I opened an e-mail from egregious after it was long gone.

Someone in the wake of the OJ trial had the gall to say to me “if things were so bad, why didn’t Nicole leave him?”

I said, she DID leave! Look what happened!!

Duh. anyway, great post Julia. see ya next time.

Honestly, I thought that the biggest problems were time constraints and the fact that the server hamsters seemed to be a bit off their feed.

I suspect, too, that with a local politician running against a national politician with the kind of seniority Steven has got, he felt as if he had to be extra careful that he didn’t get caught up in anything that can be used against him. It is gotcha season.

Speaking for myself, and not knowing Mark at all, I have enough faith in Tester to support him.
And as to the format: it takes time.

How did you feel about Begich’s responses. It seemed to me he couldn’t quite eet a handle on the format, and it also seemed he and Tester had a real full time schedule, and could hardly develop a meaningful conversation here. Too bad. I like Mark. Glad to see he’s BlueAmerica. I wonder when Jane and Christy are going to agree with Howie and do the same for Diane Benson?

It’s going around. Bob Dole released an open letter to McClellan today talking about how A Real Man with Moral Fiber would have quit if he knew about Bad Stuff Happening.

Bob Dole, as I guess he’s forgotten or hopes we have, was the head of the RNC who tried to help Nixon bury Watergate.

Well, one of them. He was replaced halfway through by GHW Bush.
