“They have a new gimmick every year. They’re going to take one of their boys, black boys, and put him in the cabinet so he can walk around Washington with a cigar. Fire on one end and fool on the other end. And because his immediate personal problem will have been solved he will be the one to tell our people: ‘Look how much progress we’re making. I’m in Washington, D.C., I can have tea in the White House. I’m your spokesman, I’m your leader.’ While our people are still living in Harlem in the slums. Still receiving the worst form of education.

“But how many sitting here right now feel that they could [laughs] truly identify with a struggle that was designed to eliminate the basic causes that create the conditions that exist? Not very many. They can jive, but when it comes to identifying yourself with a struggle that is not endorsed by the power structure, that is not acceptable, that the ground rules are not laid down by the society in which you live, in which you are struggling against, you can’t identify with that, you step back.

Malcolm X, in his Jan. 7, 1965 speech “The Prospects for Freedom”, at the Militant Labor Forum, in New York City.

Were he alive today, Malcolm would likely not be included in “This Brave Nation.”

Lesser evilism was less revered back then, they had more hope for authentic change.

understood. really. I was the same way but it is only a game and my life and general well being aren’t tied to how well or bad my team performs (well not anymore). The situation with Seattle is messed up and I David Stern is a dick for it (but then again I have never had a high opinion of the man-sorry) No one likes it when a player kicks your team when it’s down. It is a dickish thing to do and shows lack of humility but folks like Fischer, Gasol etc make up for what others lack in that dept.

I also am an avid hater of Raider nation so I’m with you on that one.

A lot of observers with psychiatric backgrounds have noted that Bush displays many of the classic symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, with a streak of the sociopathic to boot. So he probably has built-in mechanisms that let him ignore or dismiss these outside assessments. Still, it can’t be easy for him right now.

And as you can tell, I’m deeply sympathetic.

Chimpy must be smoldering inside.

His daughter disses him on the Ellen Show.

He’s being described as “hated” and “toxic” by the GOP faithful.

McCain is engaged in a Fay Dunaway at the end of Chinatown with Bush. “He’s my leader, I don’t know him, he’s my leader, I don’t know him.”

Now with McLellan comes the beginning of the deluge.

The spell is broken and no one is afraid of this asshat anymore.

Now the parade of rejection for this small minded tool who’s only solace is “Just wait, someday I’ll be proved right” mantra by only the Koold-Aidiest of his followers.

Even Turdblossom Rove was sounding a tad bit rattled under the ginger questioning of George Stuffanappleupyourass.

The walk of shame is ahead.

My general frustration is with the NBA right now, and Stern in particular.

But I’ve always hated the Lakers because I was a Sonics fan all my life. Do you know how many playoffs we lost to those guys? No, it’s not a rational thing, of course — but sports fandom isn’t rational anyway. You love your team, you hate others (I hate the Raiders, too, as a longtime Seahawks fan). There are always teams you love to hate.

That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate great players. I hate the Yankees but I appreciate Derek Jeter. I actually really liked Magic but couldn’t root for him. So I probably shouldn’t take it out on Kobe but (a) he has kicked me in the gut emotionally probably one time too many and (b) he’s been a jerk about it.
