And they don't get more outrageous than this:
Liz Trotta: "and now we have what ... uh...some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama ...uh..um..Obama [after being prompted by the FNC anchor]....well both if we could [laughing]"
Other Fox News talking head: Talk about how you really feel?
Senator Clinton's mistake -- and yes, it was a mistake -- received more than enough play. What was deserving of attention and an apology, quickly became inflated into an awful and damaging embarrassment.
One would think the lesson of all this would be plain enough, some things are never to be mentioned, they are too awful to consider and extrapolate.
At least among non-sociopaths.
But sadly, there are a lot of sociopaths ensconced in the Republican camp and a healthy percentage of them are employed at FoxNews.
Here's Liz Trotta, enjoying a completely insincere laugh first over confusing Obama and bin Laden. But then, incredibly in the second breath approvingly enjoying a giggle and asserting that Obama should be "knocked off".
In most broadcast networks, Ms. Trotta would have been off the stage and canned over the commercial break. Literally, Sandman should be coming out with the Shepherd's Crook to drag her off the screen.
But not at the Murdoch/Ailes network. Trotta did not even apologize, FoxNews has apparently not yet apologized.
And we still have just over five months to go before election day.

How appalling. We don’t have cable because the only option downunder is FoxTel and there is no way I’m paying those slime one cent.
This is what I’ve come to expect from the Republicans at Fox, but can someone explain to me why any Democrat, anywhere, should go on Fox until this woman apologizes and is fired.
C’mon Dems, show a little self-respect for a change.
If you get your news from tv you’re very ignorant; If you get your news from Fox you’re just plain stupid…
Hey PDU.
To say it is appalling is to understate dramatically. She needs to be fired for “confusing” Obama and a murdering radical. But for openly calling for a political assassination, she needs to slither off never to be seen or heard again.
Mr.Cbl
Oh yeah, Attaturk,
Thanks for the early morning, I don’t have to leave for work, always start my day with it good post.
Mr.Cbl
Good Morning on this Memorial Day when we must remember that war is not an option, killing is not an option and people should not be treated as cannon fodder.
Well my wonderful wife says that it had to be in her mind for her to bring it up. So mistake….well maybe but……. I do not trust that woman and I do not trust anyone she has around her least of all cigar man.
Hmmmmm. FDL servers are wonky this AM.
Also, having never seen or heard of trotta I can only assume that she is not a reporter and is of no significance,
Attaturk, really enjoy your work. How is it a mistake when she has said it before? It’s just like the sniper bullshit.
Good morning, pups. It’s a Monday, so you know what’s coming. I was hoping that, since it’s a holiday, the Times would give us a break from that schmuck Kristol, but nooo… He wants us to “Remember to Remember,” and opines that many men and women in the military say that they’re not confident that their fellow citizens are aware of what is being accomplished in Iraq. (The Hazmat suits are over there, next to the brain bleach.) Mr. Cohen writes about “The Obama Connection,” and says that Barack Obama’s grasp of Internet-driven networking comes from his conviction that in a globalized world sociability is a force as strong as sovereignty. Mr. Krugman’s column is titled “Divided They Stand.” He says any lingering bitterness among Hillary Clinton’s supporters about her treatment during the primaries could cost Barack Obama the White House.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins this morning. For those of us who were hoping that the end of the primaries in June might bring an end to the wrangling, it appears we may be about to be disappointed. Sigh….
These are the last, desperate, gasps of the DLC. The corporate branch of the Democratic Party is about to be put out to pasture. Yes there will be a few defections from the cinton2 camp toward the McBush efforts but they will only be the extreme right wingers that found a happy home with the likes of clinton (NAFTA, Welfare “reform”, ruination of African Agriculture in favour of Monsanto and ADM etc, etc, etc) and liarman. If clinton2 continues with this charade until the convention she will be looking for a job as ambassador to Chad as the best option. As for McCaulif and his ilk they can go and work for liarman and McBush if so wish. Fuck ‘em.
Well, on a somewhat happier note, Bob Barr is the official Libertarian candidate. He may peel off some of the disaffected Repubs who loathe Mc$ame.
Good Morning PUPS, watching C-Span, this am all about Memorial Day and what it means. To all of you who have served our Military my thoughs today are with you and your families.
I would be willing to bet that if someone said something like that about McCain on Olbermann’s show, the Secret Service would be paying them a visit…
Hi Attaturk. This is another reason why Senator Clinton’s mistake is so damaging - a Democratic nominee for President has now officially put the subject in play. She has granted plausible deniability to anyone who wants to talk about it from here on out. I know that wasn’t her intent, but it will be one of the effects of it.
If she did it in an airport, she would have been arrested.
part of her resumé. I have heard the name over the years. Sad. Disgraceful. Meteor Blades says it well too.
i actually gave clinton some slack for her statement - but i thought her “apology” was extremely bad and that pissed me off far more than what she had originally said.
i think she could have done a lot to prevent this - if she had made a good apology statement. really no excuse for not having done so as she had time to think that one through.
It wasn’t a mistake and the subject has been “in play” for anyone with pulse since November 22, 1963.
She’s just the latest example of dried-up failed journalists who having reached the nadir of their careers has become another whore in the Fox brothel.
ot - for nyc firepups, this looks good…
bingo.
Maybe Sen. Obama’s response each time a ridiculously callous statement such as Trotta’s is made should be to repeat it — even show a video, if the venue allows — then say:
“Republicans, this is the level that the Fair and Balanced network (or the Republican Party or whatever the source) is playing to; I welcome you to our campaign because you’re above that kind of ignorant hatred. Democrats, please continue your support of intelligent discourse.”
I’d pound it in often that hatred and bigotry are the Republican platform’s foundation.
Understood, and good point. It has been on everyone’s mind all along, but no one seemed to feel there was license to make light of it (at least I didn’t see any evidence of that on major outlets). That has now changed. Liz Trotta is exhibit A. What’s the over/under on how far through the alphabet we get by election day?
… “And Independents, please use both the Republicans’ and the Democrats’ words as your guide in making an informed decision this November. We welcome all of you.”
OK — #23 was supposed to be a reply to me. My bad. Off to find caffeine.
Has everyone disappeared? No one but me on Scarecrow’s excellent thread.
Attaturk, I have to disagree.
This wasn’t a one time thing.

Juan Cole has a similar post today.
They are revealing their true selves more and more in this election cycle. It would seem that the Legions of the Damned can no longer conceal themselves.
People like Liz Trotta need to experience gut-wrenching fear, the kind that comes from a loud knock on the door and three heavily-armed FBI or Secret Service agents demanding that she take a short ride with them to be interrogated, you know, the way they do to tourists coming in by air to the United States. Just one or two events like that would depollute the airwaves.
All we hear is Radio Hutu.

In 1968 I was rigging shrapnel-ridden helicopters out of a very scary Special Forces encampment named Thuong Duc, RVN. The place was under constant mortar barrage, so my ship left me on the ground to await a hook driver foolhardy enough to attempt a recovery.
Around dusk, after several tense hours of listening to increasingly bad news from the radio in the command bunker, I got word the recoveries were being called off. During a lull in the mortar fire, my helicopter landed and I ran out to make a getaway. As I boarded the aircraft, I noticed Ms. Trotta and a TV camera crew pop out of their hiding places and scramble towards us anticipating a lift out of that hellhole. We were loaded to the limits of weight and space, so I had to jump out and frantically motion them back to the bunkers. As darkness fell, our ship made its escape from the valley while an AC-47 crew lit up the sky with its miniguns. I felt really bad about leaving somebody to spend the night in an outpost under siege and hoped they would somehow find a safe way out.
After reading Ms. Trotta’s recent views on political assassination, I don’t feel that bad anymore.
Trotta was a fine TV reporter during Vietnam. It’s shocking that she has sunk so low.
Hillary made a mistake? You’re far too kind, Attaturk.
She had said it once before and a couple of her campaign staff have repeated it. She’s continued to discuss it in order to keep it alive.
It’s like the Bosnia sniper fire only more disgusting.
