You might have watched a couple of minutes of my interview with Morello on FDL. Here’s the whole thing (and a music video) in which he talks about what it’s going to take to recover this country from its current mess. Tom was backstage in New York just before a concert benefiting Road Recovery, a 10-year-old program that helps kids get out of addiction and into music.
Road Recovery offers workshops, sober road crew connections, performance opportunities, speaker seminars, master classes and just about everything a young person might need to get on track while staying hip. The drug-affected music industry professionals who founded it know just how hard it is to get and stay clean in an industry that can romanticize self-destruction. Morello’s Axis of Justice Tour donated tour proceeds to local issues at every stop — Road Recovery, Sweet Home New Orleans, Amnesty International, Iraq Veterans Against the War. This guy — well, just watch the interview and tell us what you think. It’s going to take a whole lot of rock heroes to recover this nation.

Jus cogens!
I found I had better luck loading a YouTube by mailing it to myself. I’m going to try it with this. Hope it works. I know in my heart these are great videos. Keep up the good (and necessary, IMO) work!
Hi – if anybody is having trouble watching/listening to the interviews, could you please note what kind of browser and computer you’re using in the comments section? I’m having no trouble, using Firefox2 on a Mac.
Did you know Tom Morello worked for Sen. Alan Cranston for two years?
Lisa,
IIRC, some folks having trouble are using dial-up and have asked for transcripts so they can at least read the interviews and such.
Works good in FF3 on ubuntu.
I’m also using FF2. It’s the dialup issue. Have always had troubles with it but especially on heavy load sites. The format you’re using is also slower than the one on YouTube. Sorry. Would love transcripts! Pretty please! (CNN style)
PS: I’m using WindowsXP on PC.
bless your heart. try wubi :)
Thanks, I think. :) What does it do?
Sorry folks, until the transcript fairy visits GRITtv with a grant to pay someone to do that work, dial-uppers will be better off with the audio podcast, available (for free) on iTunes.
It’s just an easy way to install and reboot into ubuntu.
The default browser is FF3 so it’ll likely work better than FF2 on XP.
Lisa, I can’t do podcasts, radio, anything like that. It all sounds like it’s underwater (IE: full of bubbles). It’s really frustrating. IF I can get a video to load, I hear it ok. Weird.
Ummm…ok. What’s Ubuntu? And will it solve my load time issues?
You know, I would happily volunteer to do the transcripts even with my slow typing if I could hear/see the shows. *sigh*
The email test didn’t work.
Ubuntu is a linux distribution. Very friendly to those who are used to Windows.
It may help to optimize you modem connection additionally supplying you with software for podcasts, radio and youtube.
Thank you. I’ll give it a try. :)
np! I’ve been using it since last fall and really enjoy the OS.
I don’t have high hopes it will solve the dialup problem. The only other option here is Satellite at 50.00/month (at least) not to mention having to buy the dish at about 300.00 but could prolly find one cheaper on ebay. Still way out of my league. I take it you’re not on dialup. Am I the only one? I haven’t seen any other complainers about it? Every new technology breakthrough on the internet leaves me further behind. Couldn’t do the Dobbs vlogs either. :(
sdf might have something for you.
Margot sent me there. Thanks. That’s where I found out about the Satellite companies and costs.
your phone line too old for dsl?
Don’t get me started! My phone line is still run ABOVE ground! I have lost at least five modems due to lightening striking somewhere else. I can lose my internet connection when the wind blows. Besides, I thought you don’t use a landline with DSL.
My dsl comes across an above ground landline.
We are talking about Direct Satellite Link, right? If it’s available through a phone line, my provider doesn’t offer it. I thought they were going to offer some new thing over the landline, but have heard nothing further about it. Perhaps that’s it. Hasn’t happened yet.
nope, a satelite link just needs a dish and a modem to the disk. Depends no the speed of the sat connection too. The ones i’ve used are about as fast as dial-up.
dsl requires a landline. That is why i thought sdf might be useful for you, dsl-wise.
There are folks around here who have DSL/cable tv and have internet connection through that. But they own their own satellite dishes that are not through a landline connection to the phone company or to a cable provider as the cable companies have no cable lines running out here. I’m confused.
DSL
Digital Subscriber Loop. Eh? Where did the other come from? Well that explains the disconnect. I’ll have to read the link, but offline, as I’ve been on too long. Maybe something here will help. Thanks for working with me on it.
np! good luck with it!
