– Sean Reagan dipped his toe into the flip-flopping waters of McCain. And it’s quite an interesting glimpse below the surface.
– Bush? Underwhelming. Very, very underwhelming. Sen. McCain, meet your campaign anchorman…
– Speaking of McCain, the NYTimes reports some panic among the GOP upper crusts. And lays the blame at the feet of the "lobbying labyrinth" of McCain campaign personnel. Gee, who could have seen that coming, I wonder? Is it me, or do you already sense the ground being laid for the "it’s not the GOP’s fault for all of this stinking failure, blame McCain"?
– Digby calls bullshit on the "don’t blame Republicans, just blame McCain" theory, and adds fuel to the conservatism as failure fire, while tristero sounds a well-considered note of caution.
– For more on "conservatism as failure," take a gander at the new privatizing your public transportation just as gas reaches $4 a gallon nationwide rules. And then go read "Shock Doctrine" again. Jeebus, there is nothing that cannot be cannibalized for conservative crony profit, is there?
– Sommerby hits the nail on the media head when it comes to bias. And then Jamo hits it out of the park regarding CNN:
But there’s another problem with Castellanos’ appearances as a CNN contributor: Castellanos is actively advising John McCain’s presidential campaign.
On March 25, washingtonpost.com’s Chris Cillizza reported that Castellanos is a member of the "McCain Ad Council" — a "group of advisers … [who] will serve as outside thinkers and strategists to the [McCain] media effort."
Not only has CNN hired Castellanos as a contributor despite his history of racially inflammatory ads, CNN has not disclosed the strategist’s relationship with the McCain campaign during his appearances — even when he favorably compares McCain to Obama.
"Most trusted name in news," my ass. And for more media failure, see Timmeh.
– Al Giordano has a bit of "war room" news from John Edwards — intriguing.
– This on social networks is fascinating.
– Thought I’d share a link for some healthy recipes for your BBQ/picnic.
– Go read Susie.
– Swopa has some Sistani news — can you say "ouch" and "failure to plan"? I thought you could.
– I’m linking Hilzoy’s fantastic piece on McCain’s veterans benefits flipflops again. Really good stuff.

Morning all, me and you Christy so far :)
I was going to leave this downstairs but I figure everyone will wander up in a min… I’ll go let them know :)
This and groups like this is where ‘we, little folks’ can show our support for our troops, their families and all who care. Especially today…..
http://www.goldstarfamilysupport.org/
So may links, so little time.
Thanks Ms Hardin Smith, for the one-stop blog-shopping.
Thought everyone would appreciate a bit of reading this afternoon in between the BBQ and potato salad tastings… *g*
Thanks, jackie — I had a number of links in my post from this morning for other groups that help military families as well. There is an awful lot of help needed these days in a whole lot of areas.
Our military veterans are now Officially Awesome:
From HuffPo.
Groan… Does he take the dishes out of the sink before pissing in it?
Memo to next President: Order new dishes and silverware prior to moving into the White House.
Meant to link this in as well — this is a moving bit of video on some folks who truly know the meaning of service, and who also take its obligations long after the fact seriously.
Yep. If you’re dead you’re awesome – if you’re wounded or have PTSD you aren’t worth bothering about. A pox on him.
hey Christy! good to have ya back – hope it was plenty enjoyable and restful.
hey Timmeh – wake up and smell the accountability I so look forward to playing this ad nauseum the next 5 months (and I suspect the BO campaign is gonna give us a little help)
Prison is were he needs to be. NOW.
“They’re an awesome bunch of dead people and the United States is blessed to have such dead citizens”
On this Memorial Day, I stand before you as the commander guy and try to tell you how proud I am,” Bush told an audience of military figures, veterans and their families at Arlington National Cemetery. Of the men and women buried in the hallowed cemetery, he said, “They’re an awesome bunch of people and the United States is blessed to have such citizens”… Shrub added, in the future we’ll all be jest like ‘em.
From HuffPo.
Hi friends. Checking in.
So Monty Python is on BBC America right now doing the Dead Parrot routine. Been hearing a lot about that lately.
Does the dead parrot ride a bike and fuck up everything he touches?
Do share what you are listening to…
not the best of recordings, but bear with it and do listen to his voice. our kidz call it old-married-people-gonna-get-laid music – the impertinent scamps !
Raul Malo
“Bring out yer dead!”
“Bring me a shrubbery.” Ahem. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself…)
Yeah- somethin bout those movies brings that out in me too!
I think the traffic on the dead parrot routine has been more to do with a certain primary than the idiot in the WH.
We had a lovely break, thanks. Was our fifteenth wedding anniversary, on top of a business conference for Mr. ReddHedd, so we combined the two into a break for the both of us. Could have used some of that “old-married-people-gonna-get-laid” music… hehehehehehe (Hilarious kids you have!)
Oh? Well it sure fits the occupant of the White House who is WAY past a limpin duck.
If you guys all really loved me, you would have made sure the primary was finito by the time I got home. *g*
They can’t let C-plus Augustus say anything extemporaneously. He will f**k it up everytime. Awesome dead (former) citizens are still citizens. Awesome? WTF?
“It’s just a flesh wound”
Or is it “lumpin dick”?
Now they’re on to Hell’s Grannies—reminds me of the raging grannies in AZ last week.

We do really love you but it was beyond our ability to do anything about, The BO campaign has rendered the liberal blogs irrelevant. Not our call.
Have fun, Marie!
And that’s helpful how, exactly? I mean, honestly. On all sides of this primary, I keep seeing shades of the 1980 campaign writ petulant all over the place…and I cannot shake the spectre of President McCain and three very important names: Justices Ginsberg, Souter and Stevens.
God help us all if we don’t all snap out of this soon.
It’s been one weird campaign season thus far, hasn’t it?
Hi Christy. Can you shed any light on this stuff about Obama’s Appalachia problem?
“…three very important names: Justices Ginsberg, Souter and Stevens.”
_______
I wrote about the import of that here.
And, I was just goofing around. Sorry.
It’ okay, hon — there are just so many short fuses all over the place, and I was so hoping that would have diffused just a bit while I was away. Alas, not so much… SIGH
Cancel them with new voters.
That we will! I’m enjoying this cd so much, am popping it out of the ‘puter to take in the car.
TTFN
It really wouldn’t matter which of the candidates gets the nomination since they adhere to EXACTLY the same agenda- the trouble is that one of em is evil and the other is a saint- and ya can’t tell which is which- that’s what I’M talkin about.
Oh I love that, thanks!
They may be impertinent scamps but they’re right on. ;)
off to dinner on the deck. Back soon.
We really tried to talk Hillary into dropping out, but she pointed out that other primary races have gone into June. She was adamant about the significance of June, so we’re confident that she won’t push it beyond June.
Haven’t read it in detail, but part of it could be that the Obama campaign strategically decided not to devote a lot of resources to a lot of those areas, ceding them to the Clinton folks for the primaries. As a short-term strategy that might have been a good short-term thing, but for the long-term, it’s a region which doesn’t forget a slight…and that’s a problem for the general.
We talked quite a bit about that on primary night in WV…would have to dig a bit for the series of comments, but they are there.
Quiet weekend here. We’re planning to watch the end of Return of the Jedi after dinner.
This story just came to my attention. I’m at a loss for words, but I hope people will read it and pass it along, as you see fit.
Bless You!
Worth noting…:)

mr reddhead’s nuclear option
Listening to a lawnmower from across the street and the cars going by. Through the open windows I get an 82 degree breeze and a splendid view of the once-more-thickening clouds. It’s tornado season.
Mwahahahahahahaha…Mr. ReddHedd’s nuclear option…too funny.
Perfect, she is the Black Knight…also indicated in her birthchart.
Stay safe, please. It’s been a bad season already…
One more week and the people who live in my teevee may have ta find somethin else ta talk about.

Hey Bobby, while I’m thinking about it — how’s your mom doing?
smokin—-ah– I remember it well- and fondly!
C plus? Talk about grade inflation.
Well some of them grades came from his major in dumbfuckery.
Watchin’ the rethugs squirm, this makes me sma ah ahile!!!
:D
Not very well. Thanks for asking.
I took her for a ride yesterday, just to get her outa the nursing home for a bit. We were driving up the south end of the Strip, and she just blurts out “I wish I could just go to sleep and not wake up.”
Nothing you can say in response to that.
We drove around a bit, then she just wanted to go back to bed.
Missing my Dad today, as well.
Don’t mean to ruffle features…
Welcome back.
Anyone see “Recount” and have any comments?
welcome back, christy
I’m so sorry BobbyG. I looked over your blog yesterday, and it’s fantastic. My grandmother got that way toward her own end. She was unhappy, confused and really wanted to just “go”. It’s heart breaking and there’s not much anyone can do. I used to take her a drink of wine, in the home, and she liked and appreciated that. I had to sneak it. It wasn’t allowed. And it’s the one thing that always seemed to cheer her.
God bless you for dealing with this, you have my heartfelt sympathies, sweeetie.
Don’t mean to ruffle “feathers.”
Doubt it seriously, but…

Thanks, Siri. I have to admit to getting really tired too. Twelve years of Next-of-Kin duty, since Sissy was diagnosed. I joke that I oughta get a “Visitor” tattoo, LOL!
Thanks, Doc.
Siun upstairs taking Rahm to task
I read a lot of your stuff, Bob. You are a good writer and a fine man. You have experienced many major ordeals that might have killed a lesser man. You are an inspiration to me. Love you, man.
Oh Bobby, that’s so hard. There just isn’t any good way to respond, is there? Does she have any good girlfriends who are widowed and have dealt with something like this who she can talk with about the grieving? I know it can help if you have someone who isn’t family — and so not also grieving — who can just listen and chitchat about it a bit.
Maybe if she’s got a good friend or two there, you could put a word in their ear about hanging out with her a little more? If you think that might help. Sometimes, the only thing is just giving it time to sort itself out. It’s exhausting, though, I remember that from when my granny was ill and we were all trying to pitch in to stay with her and care for her and then, finally, to try and keep her spirits up as much as we could nearer the end….you do what you can, and love them as much as possible, and just hope that’s enough, somehow.
You need to remember, BobbyG, that there is something exceedingly special, blessed and touched from on high, to be so close to those who are close to or in process of passing. It’s a huge communication, and a gift from Universe to be so close to one who is already part way to the “other side”. My pastor’s wife worked in a hospice for years and she pointed this fact out to us repeatedly. You and others who are doing what you are doing, and have done, are earning “special feathers on their angel wings”, so to speak.
BG blushes…
Thanks. No saint, just a guy. Try to do the right things. Love my family. And my country.
And all firepups! Even those with whom I episodically lock rhetorical horns.
WHAT a Lion’s Heart you have there BobbyG!
Hugs, Bobby.

My Mom has pretty much just me. No friends, and my sister lives in Marquette, MI. Carole lost her husband last fall completely outa the blue, we are still not over that.
I’m the go-to guy. POA, Guardian over my Dad (up to my friggin’ eyeballs in death certificates paperwork these days).
I’m off in about an hour to go sit with her at supper before I head for the gig at The Palms tonight.
BobbyG. Breaks my heart. Lost my first husband to a long illness when he was 40. He was from Knoxville, too.
Wow. I am so sorry. Knoxville, ‘eh? I was lovin’ it there, and then one day — poof! — Las Vegas (92).
Christy, hope you had a great vacation. Welcome back, and I hope you were able to develop some very thick skin while you were gone. It’s hard to keep from igniting fires when the candidates themselves seem hellbent on pouring the gas on the shrubbery that’s too close for comfort.
I must admit, I don’t see this coming from the Obama camp nearly as much as from the other two. Hillary’s unfortunate remark of last week, for instance, was the epitome of loose lips. Not that I think she meant it to come out as it did, but in my book, she might as well have said, “Won’t anyone rid me of this bothersome candidate!” Then her non-apology apology didn’t seem to alleviate any of the shrillness either; someone should tell her that when you imply that everyone else misinterpreted what she said does not really amount to I’m sorry I said it, I misspoke. She really didn’t make any friends on that one.
McCain also has some nerve! I keep waiting for Obama to say Bush and Cheney and McCain, who has adopted their policies, have lots of combined experience and where has that gotten us. We are less safe, our armed forces are spent, we have been an excellent recruiter for al Qaeda, and the rest of the world now no longer respects us. We have lost our moral compass, committed war crimes, and have no moral authority left with which to influence our friends, much less our foes. With experience like that, give me someone who hasn’t made all these mistakes. Couldn’t be any worse!
My husband grew up in Knoxville. He is from a family of docs. He went to Webb Hi, then Tulane, then UT med. We were 19 and 20 when we married. Still miss him. Good man. He had viral encephalitis.
Im sorry, Mary. How sad. My heart to yours.
“McCain also has some nerve!”

We all have sooooooo much history.
Exquisite Entropy.
Your web stuff is stunning.
My wife spent the post-Katrina fall in NOLA ’til mid-December as Director of Quality for Shaw Group (E&I Div), working 16-20 hour days, seven days a week. They’re the ones who pumped NOLA dry. IIRC, I saw her maybe a total of 4 days that fall.
omg, mary! your site is amazing! those images! they are so ethereal. they reached right inside of me and grabbed me by the soles of my soul! wow.
you should be RICH! if you’re not, it’s a marketing problem!
I grew up in New Orleans. My parents’ home was on the 17th Street canal. They lost it and are in Picayune, MS. My brother lives on the other side of the canal in Metairie and my sister lives off of Metairie Road.
I have been touched in many ways by the neocon/bush cabal. Bastards.
Thanks so much for the comment on my work.
I have NO marketing skills. Want to help?
Your stuff is beautiful.
If you ever get to Vegas, I’ll save ya’s a front-row seat at the gig.
Cool!!!!
Gotta run, y’all. Prep scut work for the gig tonight and then go hang with me Ma for a bit.
Carry on.
btw, if you wanna hear some cool music while FDL’ing, I just posted my 6th mp3 podcast yesterday.
This being Memorial Day and it’s getting close to sunset I thought this might be appropriate:

Your work is beautiful. Bravo!
oh, mary, i’d LOVE to but I have none either! one thing comes to mind, I’d be trying churches, Christian book stores, that whole venue. OR make a set of greeting cards out of them. They’d sell, but, as you can see, i have no idea what you are trying for and even if i did, mary, i’d help you in a second! They are just magnificent! They are just HAND OF GOD art, from God to human hand artwork! Truly! Spectacular, i think you just got a new hugest fan here.
hehe
When my printer is back online I will send you prints. Thanks so much.
You will need to wait till I can afford to buy them, which is NOT NOW. Thank you, marymccurnin!
Well let’s hope she drops it after the final primaries.
The problem is that many candidates also pushed it into the Convention…for example Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart, Jerry Brown, Chisholm/McCarthy, George Wallace- some of these had real chances of winning…others were pushing for changes in the platform to Democratize the party or get certain planks they favored on the agenda. Then there the ones that just wanted to drop a grenade into the party or had egos vaster than their interests in party unity.
Hillary could continue this onwards asserting that she deserves all of the Michigan delegates and the vast majority of Florida’s…not to mention throwing out all the meddleson and “undemocratic caucuses”…and (now that Obama has the majority of them) getting rid of the Super Delegates.
