Eureka!
ES!
ES
I’ve found it ! *g*
tap tap tap… is this thing on?
Yay. I thought it was black hole time. I slept all day and am wide awake (at least for the moment *g*)
can you die from FDL withdrawal ?
.
In case of FDL emergency, go here tonight
ES you asked for a link for the McCain Phoenix fund raiser…. got it here..
Poor ticket sales, expected protests scuttle Bush-McCain fundraiser at Phoenix Convention Center
I looked for a ”We’re moving on up” soundtrack for the Jeffersons youtube. No such luck..
So the DFH’s on the move youtube will have to do..)
It’s a slow death
Oh thank you, katymine. Forwarding to a few interested folks now.
you mean this song?
Yes! it was the first tune that crossed my mind when i heard we were going to be moving things around.
Going up the country is a great second choice.. I’m satisfied.
Not if we all hold hands.
It is really funny to hear everyone here in Phoenix whine about the cost of gas….. the town that fought tooth and nail against light rail…. no one rides the bus….. No city planning to reduce driving….. the valley is over 100 miles from east to west and around 75 miles north/south….
NOW… they are talking about alternatives….
Nice place Phoenix- I miss it sometimes- but not for very long after May 15th.
Hey ES, some hillbilly music for you:
Shady Grove — Doc Watson
i wanna hold ur hand
OMG….. Lieberman is contaminating my state…. cooties…. isn’t it enough that Mittens is here….. but Lieberman!
I feel like I got out of El Paso just in time this week. It was getting into the high 90s the days before I left.
Still here.
katymine, you’d better use those universal precautions! ;-)
the tech crew estimated we would go down around 10pm pacific
wacky weather…. Last weekend we had our first 100 then the next day the first 110 of the year and this morning it was 50 degrees when I got up….
Oh– Nice music…thanks!
the tech crew guesstimated we would go down around 10pm pacific
Fixed it for you Suz.
Time to Digg out your shovels!
rw, sure thing — I’ve been on a Doc Watson kick lately.
When I lived there it seemed to always climb above 100 on or about May 15th and drop back down Oct. 15th or close.
Of course 105 is not too bad- anything higher is hell on earth.
He plays guitar with his left thumb waggin around- like I do…So what’s so WRONG about that?
dugg and thanks
Not a guitar player here, but I’d say there’s nothin’ wrong with Doc’s playing at all!
He gets a good finger pickin sound but he’s flat pickin it apears. Nice work.
Didn’t you live in Oregon too?
Hey, Suz
I’m here.
Is it kind of like poking yourself just to see if your alive?
Beautiful , LL. thank you kindly.
Yep- born there.
Really!
Umm well if you want to ear some modern brasilian music, this song, Dívida, from Ultramen and Falcao is great. Falcao (w/ dreads) is from Rio de Janiero and the others (Ultramen) are from southern brasil.
here is something more mellow from one of my favorite song writers Marisa Monte. Don’t worry that you don’t understand the words, the vidoe captures exactly what the song is about (and it’s a true story too)
WOw – is this the other side of the great wormhole in the toobz?
Damn. Just my luck – I missed the fuzzy warm white light and I still have to empty the catboxes.
started here in AZ…. lived in Beavercreek (yes Tonya Harding’s home during the skating mess) for 19 years and now back here….
No problem traversing the wormhole if ya don’t mind walkin on the worms.
no, this is the pre-worm hole hole
Eureka, you’re entirely welcome :-)
Started in Oregon- then SoCal- then Dallas, Tx.- then Phoenix (and Flagstaff), and now back to SoCal…It was ALL great.
mmmmm worms
Wow ES – Going up the country…thanks.
I’ve got a reason to go to the net cafe (sometime) Saturday….
The thing is- it never gets really cold or very hot here- and there are lots of golf courses.
Guess I still have to empty the catboxes…..
I may need to fire up my Woodstock DVD sometime this weekend…
Guaranteed to bring a few smiles to the faces around you.
I left out the route…CA, NV, AZ, CA, MO, CA, NV, ID, Greece, OR, then AZ…
OK I liked the first song.. trying the oldie now.
If you haven’t bought the DVD you need to…. brings back many memories of that weekend:>)
here’s to a safe landing
va, nor cal, so cal, n’orleans, so cal, nor cal (assorted moved within norcal from 64 – 03), cen cal

Never had a cat- they look tough.

thats what you get when your Dad works for the Feds and then marry someone in the military…… In the first 5 years I was married the longest we lived in the same place with our own furniture was 9 months….
lQQking
That’d do it!
My mom sold real estate- we moved every year jest fer the fun of it- it started ta be less fun- but that was all in town.
kirk, tw3k is volunteering to clean your cat boxes for you

I am so tickled, I think I need to pinch myself!
oh sure. where have we heard that bef
Wow, it sure aint pretty, but at least it is here!
wow, that sure was fast. i’m sure that we could have hiccups during the night as they work out the kinks
The GOP will try and frame the election debate around issues they think are winners for their 30%er base.
How will the GOP deal with the War, National Healthcare, the Economy etc?
Issues that the rest of the country care about one word LIE!
Lie and hope Nancy and Harry keep taking money to take a dive.
To bad the Netroots are hitting back:)
Hey Suz! Sure was.
ITMFA!
Busted – how the heck did you find your cat?!?
But what are the issues the GOP will attack us with to motivate the 30%ers
into voting in an election where they know that they are going to lose? Lower turnout by the 30%ers in this election could give us a Filibuster/Lieberman proof majority in the Senate.
Gay marriage California’s decision to allow Gay marriage will be used against us.
I suggest we point out that the GOP has been promising since Reagen, Bush 1 and Bush 2 20 years of GOPers to stop gay marriage, gays in the military, abortion, evolution etc and just what has the GOP got to show for it?
was it good for you, too?
Hey doctor
well well
hi newtonusr!
Some lady called me out of the blue, said, I have yer cat!
Full story here.
Ruh Roh, that’s TWO blogwhores in one day.
My bad.
LOL!
Next Bush will push to drill for oil in Alaska he hopes that higher oil prices will help him do this.
I say we turn his strength against him with a Judo move. If the new oil drilling techniques really are safe for the environment then lets drill off the coast of Florida first because it costs less to pump oil from Florida than from Alaska.
After 10 years if there are no accidents then we will allow drilling in Alaska.
Oil Drilling off the coast of Florida is a non starter for Bush because that would kill Jeb’s chances in Florida to run for President.
one on the old servers and one on the new servers
That’s great news. The two might even learn to like each other.
As for blogwhoring, I just finished my project for the evening. Probably could use some more work, but this is a long subject. Scary one, too. Short version is, hope you don’t like seafood.
I would, at this time, like to stand on my chair and give a standing ovation to the Firedoglake Team who are so valiantly knocking out a server transfer in record time with nary a glitch!
BRAVO!!!
Hey all!
I made it back. That was rough. Thanks to all that checked in over at the ‘pond.
Mr.Cbl
Hi everyone! I’m writing this with my thumbs on my smartphone in the Honolulu airport on my way to Kauai for the weekend with my sweetie instead of fighting over resolutions at our state Democratic convention. Sorry to be playing hookie (not!) Bob in HI
don’t forking jinx it busted – have i mentioned i’m double irish
Saw your note. Heard about the increasing carbon dioxide levels on NPR this morning. Sounds somewhat ominous.
Damn Cujo, that’s scary stuff.
Oh sure rub it in.
Enough with the bad vibes man.
Donald Sutherlin.
It’s hard to know what will happen, of course. Quite a few of the papers at that symposium were about trying to figure out what could happen. It could be really bad, though.
good vibrations
Yes. BRAAVO, techs!
(and the place you chose for the break left me laug)
Is the “what is happening” for sure? What does it mean when they say the co2 content layer is rising? In one spot to the surface? wtf? Do I have that wrong?
Mr.Cbl
what did the diatoms and oceanic microbes ever do for us?
well, except oxygen.
all right – except oxygen and food.000000000
(oops – sorry for feline bl0000ging)
Jeeze, now ya have me drooling for a big bucket of steamers and a another one full of melted butter.
NY Times May 22,2008 C13
Next the Gun issue NY city Mayor Bloomberg is sueing gunstores in the South that knowingly allow straw purchases of lots of guns to people who then sell these guns to criminals in NY.
The GOP will scream their trying to take away your guns come election time thanks to this lawsuit, which I am for.
The gun store owners lawyer’s defense is ” Is Budweiser liable if someone drives drunk?”
I thought bar tenders could be sued if they kept pouring a person they knew to be drunk drinks? If a gun owner knows that a person is a straw man purchaser well then I think they are responsible.
ATF Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents have curiously made a training film that “largely consists of the agent calling Mr Wallace “Jay” and praising him for his keen eye in spotting potential gun felons” (The city has described it in their court papers as a made-for-trial movie”.
I think it was a Karl Rove election special production, again we need WH emails to see how Karl coordinated federal agencies to help the GOP win this upcoming election.
I’ve been wondering, at what point does seafood get cut out of the diet. How much mercury is too much? Certainly the seafood is unsafe to eat long before there are no more fish left to eat…
in california, the dramshop (iirc) decision holds that a proprietor can be held civilly liable for serving an obviously intoxicated person who later is involved in a drunk driving incident.
There are upwellings in various places, mostly near the continental shelves. If higher acidity appears in one, it’s probably going to appear in others before long. The deep ocean is cold just about everywhere. The problem is that this is happening sooner than they predicted, which probably means that their models were too “optimistic”, at least in some sense.
Thanks to the difficulty of getting there, what’s going on in the deep ocean is probably less well known than we’d like.
I have to worry about radioactivity levels on top of Mercury here. Forking Hanford radioactive waste bloom getting into the Columbia river!
hmmm perhaps i should think about new zealand
Microbiota were a whole nuther subject, unfortunately. Is the increased CO2 level good or bad for them? I don’t know, but it sounds like a good subject for a sequel. It’s also an important one, of course, since most of the oxygen we breath comes from it.
Mayer Bloomberg sent Detectives to make the buys I assume they let slip that they were from out of state and intended to sell the guns thus proving that the gunstore owner knew these were illegal gun purchases.
Suzanne,
Tried to change the log in and locked up the computer for 5 minutes. Maybe it is our old machine. Maybe you’re looking for glitches. Just a heads up.
Mr.Cbl
Anybody have a pool going?
I’m already cutting back on how much tuna I eat. Maybe that’s just the first stage of weening me off the stuff.
This sounds like a great issue to smack the George Will climate change deniers with we need to make climate change an issue again.
thanks…. so far, everyone has been able to log in and comment and i’ve not gotten any emails from pups with help in the subject line (fingers and toes crossed as i typed that)
did you reboot and then was able to get in?
Radioactive waste is getting into the Columbia river?
Has been for a while.
So far it is low level, but it is there.
Google it sometime.
busted, itsn’t it from two sources – one up by cascade locks and the other just west of portland where they removed the reactor? that is off the top of my head so it may be completely wrong
Not so fast!
Big Nuclear hasn’t given up on New Zealand quite yet…
fork.
Low levels don’t matter if you drink it everyday and it builds up in your system I wonder how many other Nuke plants are leaking into the water supply?
People who like to deny it’s a problem keep saying that climates are cyclical, so what’s the problem? The only answer I can think of is: “So are extinctions”.
There’s just so much propaganda out there that people are willing to buy. They’ve been conditioned to believe that ecological concerns are just the imaginings of some rich ex-hippies who have nothing better to worry about. This is one of the reasons that stereotyping of people bothers me.
I’ve been out. Did I miss anything?
I was pretty sure the main concern was from the cumulative effect of radiation….
….I don’t think radioactive waste is the kinda thing we can build up a tolerance to.
The contamination by Cascade locks is actually at Bonneville dam. There was an old dumpsite they dumped transformers and all kinds of crap in right on the river. that one is PCB’s. The other one you are thinking about is the old Trojan reactor site, which, asfar as I know, still has spent nuclear rods on site and was built directly on a fault line.
Hanford is way up the Columbia and is a forkin nightmare. They have been trying to stop a giant underground bloom for years, on top of the above ground waste tanks that kept leaking.
Environmental disaster area.
was there a friday night news dump? shudda been one pre-holiday weekend if boosh co are sticking to their usual MO
Maybe Al Gore could do another film?
OK. I’m back. It was slower than usual but I think maybe I interrupted the nsa’s nightly download or something. Prolly false alarm.
(yeah, yeah I’m adjusting my tinfoil hat)
I only saw McOld’s med records overshadow McTrophywife’s tax returns.
Y’know, they make extra-heavyduty now.
Sorry I was not clear I was suggesting a build up of poison leading to death not a build up of poison leading to developing a tolerance.
the nsa gets real uppity when ya surprise em and interrupt whatever it is they were doing.
just as they park their forking trucks on the tubes when they don’t get a snack
We have that!!
I’m soaking in it.
Not sure what he could say to convince them. To many of these folks, he’s one of those rich ex-hippies, or something similarly silly. You’d probably have to get someone like Billy Graham (Jr?) to do the film.
The GOP likes to say going green will hurt the economy and cost us jobs but not going green with high Miles Per Gallon vehicles will probably kill Detroit.
I think a Ford and maybe a GM bailout by the Government will be an election issue if gas stays at these prices!
(busy wiping bud lite off the monitor, keyboard and mouse)
Question what do you want to bet that Mark Penn and or his people at least will try and join the Obama campaign… after everything they advised Hilary to say?
lard love a duck, please no
They may try, but I think Obama is hip to their trip.
Size ten hobnail boot, meet ass.
There’s this Gooper running for the Senate in Texas… Maybe Mark can help.
I’ll take that bet and raise you one.
I bet Obama welcomes them to the team with open arms.
i think bo would laugh their asses outta town
I like to think of a statement like this as a Piñata sure its a tempting target for some great Snark on my part but I feel that there is so much Snark/Candy in this Piñata that everybody should get a turn first to smack the Snark Candy out of Mark Penn!
Day before yesterday a repub at work said to me “I’m not sure they want to mess with those Chicago boys”. He then quoted a line from Pulp Fiction about some hard pipe hittin folks.
why would he want the forkup team there – other than keeping an eye on them and not letting them speak to anyone about anything with the campaign
laughing… busted must be hell at pinata parties with those boots
Sad as it is for consumers and businesses, the high price of gasoline is one of the best ways to persuade people to get along without gasoline.
Unfortunately, the idea that “going green” has to cost jobs is one that people have latched onto, even though it clearly makes no sense. Just because automakers aren’t doing so well doesn’t mean that others aren’t doing well. Changes in economies always produce winners and losers. Focusing only on the potential losses is always going to make people reluctant to change.
Just started reading a book called Earth: The Sequel – a badly titled book that’s about alternative energy products and companies. Most say that all they need is a well defined market and regulatory structure to succeed. Congress could give them that in a number of ways.
Ding!
Round one, Friday night cat fights.
there’s hissing and growling and scuffling….
and I have a front row seat!
AAACCCCKKK are you pulling my chain, are you reaching for the Darkside of Snark?
Here’s to hoping I’m wrong!
(that picture gets freaky if you look for a minute)
don’t forget to stay outta their way and remember – they move faster than you do
Heh! Good idea! Invite them to the team, lock them in the closet, let them out (maybe) in late November.
Woman, you are a GENIUS!
He sure hasn’t done well for the Clinton campaign. Unfortunately, the one thing that Republicans have been good at is finding good campaign strategists. I doubt they’d be fool enough to hire the guy. For that, he’ll need to find another Democrat.
naw, just evil. ask either of my two ex husbands.
I actually have a pair!
They call them Cork Boots around here.
Expensive as hell too.
Yeah, because Axelrod is such a piker.
when did he last work on a winning campaign?
Is Penn from Chicago from the Daley organization or another ward organization? Cause otherwise I’m thinking he’s no Chicago politician just a wanna be.
Sorry, I had an extra serving of cynical with my coffee tonight. Got into a heated political argument with a winger this morning. I was so annoyed I sent the ACLU $35 just to piss him off!
Ah yes, the price of happy feet. Worth every penny.
and I wrote that before I read Busted’s comment!
Idiocy knows no boundaries. look at Bush.
It was a remarkably effective gesture. I am 90% positive I now know what to get the wingers in my life for Christmas this year!
I honestly don’t know, but I suspect it’s been a while. This was one of the things that Markos and Jerome discussed in Crashing the Gates – how truly awful many Democratic consultants were, and how willing Democratic candidates were to hire them and pay them extravagant amounts of money for their bad advice.
Just copy what Germany is doing for their solar industry buy solar power from people at above market prices.
Might help if they din’t hire the ones that work for the other side.
I like the way you think!
ok pups, that’s it for me tonight. off to erase all traces of my existence here just in case i get a call for showing (and any potential real estate buyers are willing to run the juggernaut known as the boulder creek art and wine festival to get here
g’nite all
That’s a good model as long as they continue to do it, and don’t mess with the formula or just drop the program one year and start it up again the next. If people are going to invest in risky businesses, they need to at least have some expectation of what the payoff is going to be. That’s one of the things that have been screwed up in this country – incentives like this one never last more than a few years.
nite suzanne
f&t
Put it in their name, they get on the mailing list.
Oh, the fun!
G’nite, Suz. Sweet dreams!
Nite Suze!
Goodnight, Suzanne.
Actually, I think it’s about time for me to pumpkinize, also. Goodnight all.
Not that asshole. That was a reference to the BO boys.
Gnite Suzanne.
I can already see my nocturnal friends here are just getting warmed up.
I’m outta here too, Gnite y’all.
Nite busted, nite cujo.
BTW,
Gnite Lurking Mod.
G’nite Cugo and Busted.
Good night Bustednuckles
I know where the preview button is, I just choose not to use it. G’nite Cujo.
nite busted
nite cujo. great project
Barack’s people worked a real Mike Ryoko Slats Grobnick ward! McCain is in trouble then.
Forget the rep for violence Daley had his ward guys listen to people if you wanted the Garbage man to pick up all the trash call your ward guy, if your dad wants to go to a good public school out of district so he can become an engineer call your word guy, If your dad was about to be expelled for senior ditch day before graduating (they were tough back then) call your ward guy. In return my Grandma and Grand aunt always voted Daley’s way.
By building up favors ward guys can call in all kinds of favors which is where the reputation for violence started after all if you know that the whole neighborhood will see nothing cause they owe you then all kinds of political dirty tricks become possible.
A war between the Daley and Lee Atwater/Rove brands of the dark political arts should be very interesting Nixon himself lost to the Daley machine and the GOP has been screaming for a rematch since.
This election just went to 10 in the potential excitement category!
nite Busted, Cujo
If Obama has a real budget that lowers government debt then the Dollar should go up in value that and and commodities prices like food and oil should drop. That should have a much better effect to lower inflation than the Federal Reserve raising interest rates to lower inflation.
In fact the Fed could start to lower interest rates then unless the economy was in danger of growing to fast gosh I can still remember when that was a problem! LOL
G’nite Things, looks like you got the place to yourself. Enjoyed your Chicago ward story!
Oh no, that’s half-assed. I am sending in money and actually joining the ACLU in their name. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, like when they get their membership card in the mail!
If Obama spends on rebuilding America’s infrastructure instead of paying down the National debt then the Dollar will still be weak but wages will go up as labor has to compete against high paying rebuild America road and bridge repair construction jobs.
Poor people without and education will stand to benefit the most that plus Vets who are the first to be hired for Government jobs.
Now then if Obama chooses his rebuilding projects wisely with an eye to picking projects that will return on the investment instead of just provide a job but no benefit to the community and or the economy.
Then the Dollar will rise over time how much time I don’t know. I think National Healthcare not Obama’s current plan is the best project for the dollar followed by green energy, but rebuilding the roads and bridges are necessary right now. High speed freight and passenger trains that run on green power can come later.
Thanks its why I am here now:)
Your an Evvvil Genius man maybe you should volunteer to help Obama?
Until he gets the nomination I am strictly the Anti-McCain, after that, we’ll talk.
It sorta sounds like you are saying, if the people have jobs, the economy will improve.
What sort of DFH talk is that?
Or you could Destroy McCain from inside!, but McCain is doing that quite well without our help the MSM is his only friend even big money corporations and the GOP Fundies seem to be deserting him.
Nobody wants to get the blame for backing McCain when the GOP reorganizes after McCain is defeated in November.
I bet that the GOP will go Reagen after McCain loses and use code words to attack brown people and disguise the Fundie issues with scientific sounding words.
The problem for the GOP is that Reagen’s plan worked in a Carter economy Bush’s economy is exploding now and may be getting better by the time Obama takes over, especially if Obama follows Keynes on the economy.
Good jobs:) DFH?
Remember Gulf war 1 Bush 1 had great approval ratings after that one just like his son would but higher oil prices tanked both of their economies and popularity.
Obama our press screams has a Muslim Dad! Tell me if you were a Saudi watching satellite TV just whom would you want as President?
What do you want to bet the Saudi’s will turn on the oil pumps full blast for Obama to help the son of a Muslim have a good economy when he is President.
I’ll bet that if Obama wins the Muslim world will have high hopes for him I just hope Obama has a plan.
Oh a neither Bush 1 or 2 ever got oil from the Saudi’s even though they went to war for them do the Saudi’s prefer Democrats?
Have the Bushies ever figured out that they are getting played?

Will Sistani Declare Jihad on US?
Hamza Hendawi and Qassim Abdul Zahra of AP get the scoop: Their sources in Najaf tell them that young Shiite men belonging to the “Troops of the Ayatollahs” (Jund al-Marja`iyyah) militia that protects the leading Shiite clerics in the Middle Euphrates have been imploring Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani for a fatwa or formal legal ruling about whether it is permissible to attack US and other foreign troops. Hendawi and Abdul Zahra report that whereas in the past Sistani had dodged the question or given a vague answer, in recent months he has begun verbally affirming to visitors that such attacks on foreign occupation troops are permissible.
http://www.juancole.com/
Sistani is the grand Ayatollah if he gives the word then the Shia majority of Iraq will attack. This is very bad.
Don’t worry, we are turning the corner in Iraq.
The next six months will be pivotal.
No one could have anticipated….
Iranian artillery shelled border villages in the Kurdistan region of Iraq
Iranian artillery shelled again today, Friday, morning and intensive border villages in the Kurdistan region of Iraq pretext of pursuing elements of the movement “Zack” of the Organization of the PKK. وقال مصدر امني ان المدفعية الايرانية قصفت بعض القرى التابعة لناحيتي سنكسر وزاراوة في قضاء بشدر بمحافظة السليمانية. A security source said that Iranian artillery shelled the villages, some of my break and Zaraoh Shadra in the district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate. واضاف المصدر الذي رفض الكشف عن اسمه “ان القصف الايراني بدأ من الساعة السادسة صباحاً وإستمر حتى العاشرة من صباح اليوم نفسه”. The source who refused to reveal his name, “The Iranian shelling started from six o’clock and lasted until ten o’clock this morning the same.” وطال القصف قرى ( آش قولقه, وسوردي, وسينموكه في ناحية سنكسر, وآلية رش وماردو, وشناوه ورزكة, في ناحية زاراوة). It was a long shelling villages (Ashe Colgah, Sword, Sinmokh break in hand, and sprayed him and Mardo, Shannan and Brzak, Zaraoh in hand). وقال المصدر ان القصف لم يسفر عن خسائر بشرية, ولكن تسبب في خلق الخوف في قلوب اهالي القرى الحدودية تحسباً لوقوع كارثة بهم. The source said that the bombing had not resulted in human casualties, but caused the creation of fear in the hearts of the people of border villages in anticipation of a catastrophe them. من جهة اخرى حلقت عددٌ من الطائرات الحربية التركية بشكل منخفض اليوم فوق منطقتي نيهلي وبرواري بالا في قضاء آميدي بمحافظة دهوك. Elsewhere flew a number of Turkish warplanes today in low over the areas of structure and Berwari not in the district Amedee Dohuk governorate. وأفاد شهود عيان أن الطائرات لم تقصف تلك المنطقتين بل قامت بالتحليق بشكل منخفض مما سبب هلعاً بين سكان تلك المنطقتين. Eyewitnesses said the aircraft had bombed those areas but has been flying low, causing panic among the inhabitants of those regions.

Why is Iran attacking Iraqi Kurds they are the only friend we have in Iraq? Why is Bush who wants to attack Iran not screaming that we have to defend the Kurds? Have Turkey and Iran made a deal with America about the Kurds?
Is McCain by playing games with the campaign finance system giving Obama an excuse to accept pac and corporate money? Given the games McCain and Bush are playing with members of the federal elections commission why should Obama play with one hand tied behind his back.
Sure Obama leads McCain in fundraising but do we have any idea what the 527s are getting money wise or what they are doing can we trust them to report their numbers if Bush is firing FEC board members?
Because 527 organizations do not make expenditures to directly advocate the election or defeat of any candidate for federal elective office they avoid regulation by the Federal Election Commission. The line between issue advocacy and candidate advocacy is the source of heated debate and litigation.
Many 527s are run by interest groups and used to raise money to spend on issue advocacy and voter mobilization outside of the restrictions on PACs.
Examples of 527s include Americans for Dr. Rice, Americans for Honesty on Issues, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Texans for Truth, The Media Fund, America Coming Together, the Moveon.org Voter Fund, the Progress for America Voter Fund, United American Technologies, American Right To Life Action and the November Fund.
During April of 2004, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) held hearings to determine whether or not 527s should be regulated under campaign finance rules. The Commission ultimately decided that the law did not cover these independent 527 organizations unless they directly advocated the election or defeat of a candidate.

Whoa – arabic script?
So if Obama can’t trust the system thanks to Bush/McCain to play fair then Obama will get even more money from PACs and corporations desperate for influence with a Democratic White House with a House and Veto proof Senate Majority.
This action will starve McCain of the Oxygen/Money that a presidential campaign needs.
So then by cheating McCain/Bush screw themselves because rules/laws are put in place to restrain the strong from harming the weak.
McCain is weak no amount of cheating short of a military coup is going to change that. But by disregarding the rules McCain gives Obama permission to disregard his own rules which were stricter than the current law.
McCain has just created a lose/ win scenario that hurts him worse than he hurts Obama.
Just imagine what kind of super majority Barack could build with that kind of dough. I’m not saying he will but I am describing McCains worse fear.
McCain had better start obeying the laws no more games OR HIS WORSE FEAR OBAMA TAKING PAC AND CORPORATE CASH WILL COME TO PASS!
This isn’t Nancy’s Democratic Party we hit back we’re the Net Roots!
It surprised me too?
My understanding is that we have a pretty implicit deal with Turkey regarding the Kurds. We will ignore any and all Turkish bombing of Kurdish Iraq, and Turkey will not invade with ground troops.
Bush is just as likely to call for defending the Kurds as he is to start defending the constitution or rule of law.
But now we ignoring Iran bombing Iraqi Kurd land? We as the occupying power do have a duty to protect these people although I’m not sure if not protecting the Kurds is a war crime or just despicable.
morning!
As US Threatens Iran Over Enriching Uranium, Bush Promises to Give Enriched Uranium to Saudi Arabia
The Bush administration has pledged to support Saudi Arabia’s nuclear power program, including supplying enriched uranium for nuclear reactors. The agreement came out of President Bush’s visit to the Saudi kingdom last week, during which Bush also pledged new US assistance in guarding Saudi oil reserves. [includes rush transcript]

I thought the Saudis wanted to burn the Israeli’s into the sea just like the Iranians do? McCain is going to have a hard time explaining this to Florida voters.
If the Saudis want extra power give them solar tech. If they want nukes give them fuel air bombs so there won’t be any radiation.
The effects produced by FAEs (a long-duration high pressure and heat impulse) are often likened to the effects produced by low-yield nuclear weapons, but without the problems of radiation. However, this is inexact; for all current and foreseen sub-kiloton-yield nuclear weapon designs, prompt radiation effects predominate, producing some secondary heating; very little of the nominal yield is actually delivered as blast. The resulting injury dealt by either weapon on a targeted population is nonetheless great.
Some fuels used, such as ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, act like mustards. A device using such fuels can be dangerous if the fuel fails to completely ignite; the device is at risk of producing the effects of a chemical weapon.

We are America we have plenty of non Nuclear options to cause death selling Nuke tech is stupid it might hurt US!
Morning Selise!
The Prime Directive of American foreign policy should be to in all things act to Protect ourselves selling Nuke tech is sooo far from that ideal.
But the IISS believes that Egypt, which already possesses a solid grounding in nuclear technology, could be the first to build a bomb. “If any country in the region were to follow Iran in developing a latent nuclear weapons capability, however, Egypt may be the most likely candidate,” said Mr Chipman.

My all the news is good this morning.
Carl Ichan is saying that Obama will be bad for the economy this from a guy who used Michael Milken junk bonds to get rich. This from a guy who was trying to take over GM but doesn’t mention that in his wikipedia entry.
Why buy GM with their SUVs unless you think that there will be peace in the middle east and oil prices will always stay low!
GOPers are so Naive about the world and Money sometimes.

It realy is. This from my local paper Young bakers aid homeless
I am so proud of them!!!!
It says Greenland is that Greenland Greenland the worlds largest Island?
Anyway that is good news :)
Greenland NH. Once a delightful little town now a bedroom suburb of Portsmouth, yuppie capital of NH. BUt the best place to get coffee and candles down town.
In late September 2001, Popular Mechanics published an article outlining this possibility. The article focused on flux compression generator bombs (FCGs), which date back to the 1950s. This sort of e-bomb has a fairly simple, potentially inexpensive design, illustrated below. (This conceptual bomb design comes from this report written by Carlo Kopp, a defense analyst. The design concept has been widely available to the public for some time. Nobody would be able to construct a functioning e-bomb from this description alone).

We could sell the Saudis non nuclear Electro Magnetic Pulse Tech anything but Nuke tech!
I don’t care how much money General Electric has given the GOP there are times when a politician must put the good of all mankind ahead of campaign cash/bribes this is ONE OF THEM.
Good morning, pups. Mercifully, La Collins is off today. Mr. Herbert has “Tears for Teddy,” and says that the press will tell you that Senator Edward Kennedy’s brain cancer is his toughest fight. He doesn’t know if that’s true. Who knows what the toughest fight has been for someone named Kennedy?

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I felt the need for a bit of decadence today so I have French toast waffles. Have a grand day.
Just where are the MSM tools on Bush giving Nuke tech to the Saudis AND NOT EVEN GETTING ANY OIL IN RETURN! Never mind how this story could if the MSM ever reports it, turn Florida into the grave yard of John McCain’s and Jeb Bush’s dreams.
Morning Marion in Savannah
French toast waffles…. ….what a freakin marvelous idea!
Way cool! I knew about the nuclear EMP bombs but had no idea there were designs for conventional ones.
Yep the Popular Mechanics article about EMPs came out right before 9/11 I thought EMPs were the next step for Ossama for months.
Good morning everyone.
we’re back AND there’s French Toast Waffles with canned heat?! this is too good to be true.
When I came home last night, FDL was down — didn’t know if she’d still be down and out this morning. And can’t start the weekend without Pulling Up A Chair.
gotta go get more syrup, brb
Gonna be a gorgeous day in the mid-Hudson, and I’m going to spend it all outdoors.
I guess I will have to make Brioche this weekend if I am to have the marvelous french bread waffles. As my wife says “Oh no, not brioche… again”
Yep lots of outdoors time planting the rest of the veggie garden and a few more fruit canes. Bushco vanishes from my mind when tilling the soil…of course thoughts of bushco return as soon as I start composting.
So you can come & make brioche for me and be appreciated, if your wife takes it for granted. *g*
Unfortunately, I finished listening to East of Eden (I always listen to audio books while I work outside), and I just startred “Failed State” by Noam Chomsky. Bad choice if you want to get away from it all, but now that I’ve started it, I guess I’ll stick it out.
I do have to tell her to stop complaining with her mouth full!
Listening to books while gardening…. what a neat idea. I’ll bet that weeding is a lot easier while listening to a good Agatha Christie novel.
Any time your wife gets tired of brioche feel free to ship it off down here!
And I just moved into the 21st century. Up until a month ago, I literally listened to audio tapes. But my NY Public Library where I borrow them is closing because their lease expired. Final day is end of summer, but they’ve already moved their tapes to another branch. However, they still have boods on CDs, which you can’t listen to while moving about. So I bought an Ipod & have loaded about a half-dozen books on it from the library.
Altogether, I’ve probably listened to over 100 books on tape in the last half-dozen years. I borrow what the library has to offer. The advantage of that is you get books you might not otherwise choose. It’s been a wonder experience.
My raspberries are blooming — and prickery,
my Japanese irises are blooming, including a little one I planted as a seed *g* But they were much nicer before I moved. I knew it would take a while for them to reestablish themselves when I transplanted them; didn’t count on the dog deciding that was the best place in the backyard to stay cool — they’ve never had much of a chance.
You’re like my sister eCAHN, she uses them always.
*waving to sister, HB SWL` *
I’m not good at books on tape, can’t concentrate enough.
Anyway I prefer weeding in peace and natural quiet; I go inside if someone fires up any kind of lawn motor.
Envious I am. My strawberries are looking like they will be pinking in a few days but that is about it up here in NH.
Must go to the dump….. enjoy swimming in the lake everyone and have a bloody wonderful day.
Must remember baking is better than bombing
Morning everyone. Upstate where I am (north of Ecahn, south of Solai) is very cheery and sunny this morning, 43 degrees. We will be doing a lot of yard work today, taking a dead tree down before it falls down on the house, transplanting etc. etc. Did anyone see the article this morning in the NYT about the “processing” of the meatpacking plant workers in Iowa?
“In temporary courtrooms at a fairgrounds here, 270 illegal immigrants were sentenced this week to five months in prison for working at a meatpacking plant with false documents. The prosecutions, which ended Friday, signal a sharp escalation in the Bush administration’s crackdown on illegal workers, with prosecutors bringing tough federal criminal charges against most of the immigrants arrested in a May 12 raid. Until now, unauthorized workers have generally been detained by immigration officials for civil violations and rapidly deported.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05…..ref=slogin
It’s an acquired skill, though not everyone can acquire it.
I’ve been working on it for nearly 20 years, starting on auto trips with my son when he was little.
Hi TW.
The article I want to read on W’s illegal immigration crackdown is the one that will detail that the corporate targets are those that do not contribute enough to the R party. I notice there haven’t been any raids on the “contractors” that clean Wal-Marts at night.
Heh..you noticed that also? Of course, I am waiting to see what sort of case the feds make against the owners and managers of the meatpacking plant. I remember someone commenting here at the lake that the owner is a pretty active contributor to the GOP.
And, I need to do major harvesting on the rhubarb side of things(and find something else to do with it besides pie and crisp; my family likes those two things a whole lot, but there must be something else to do with it).
Oh, that would be interesting about the R party connection. I’ll keep my eyes open for that one.
As for rhubarb, let me ask a Q by analogy. Here people lock their cars during zucchini season, because if they don’t they find their cars full of it when they return. So perhaps you could take your excess rhubard & deposit it in random cars, like a rhubarb fairy?
OK. Coffee’s been consumed, so I’m off. See y’all later.
Rhubarb fairy — lmao — love that…of course, people are not yet sensitized here to the whole ‘extra garden produce dump’ situation that they will come July and August, when employee break room tables become populated with zuccs, cucs, and tomatoes. Definite ’stealth produce’ possibilities here. The one issue with rhubarb is that you can’t just pick it up and eat it – so making a gift of it to an organization(unless I put in a bag of sugar with every sack of the stuff)wouldn’t be very nice.
Good morning everyone. Yes, I read that article. While reading I was pretty sure that the owners of the Kosher meatpacking place were liberal democrats, but at the end it sounded like the workers weren’t treated very well. It will be interesting to see what charges, if any, are brought against the owners. Scroll down to the US section of the NYT and you’ll see 950 were picked up in California this week too.
come Pull Up A Chair
Egregious is upstairs.
Apparently there are lots of rhubarb recipes…
