St. McCain will have to ask his Sugar Mama Cindy to bail him out if this continues.
In financial disclosure reports released Tuesday night, Obama reported raising $32 million for his primary in April and banked an aggregate of more than $9 million for the general election.
In contrast, McCain reported raising just $18.5 million for his primary account in April and having no money set aside for the general election.
$9,000,000 to 0? I’m sure this jaw-dropping disparity will raise all kinds of questions about St. McCain’s "electability."
The presumptive Republican nominee ended the month with about $22 million in primary funds in the bank, about less than half that of the Obama campaign. McCain’s overall primary fundraising topped at about $100 million, nearly three times less than Obama has collected.
Ouch.
McCain is counting on the Republican National Committee to close the gap with his Democratic rival.
But even if they hit their targets, the totals raised by McCain and the RNC could amount to about $250 million.
Combined, Clinton and Obama have raised nearly $500 million for their primary campaigns — nearly double the Republicans’ general election targets.

BT!
Seems they intend to go the big donor route. As in 12 guys giving 100 mil each or something like that.
So
Dos
Because they’re hatable?
This is a trick question, right?
Why does America hate the GOP?
What’s to like? The GOP bastards literally do not have one redeeming quality.
Won’t matter when the “attack” comes, the fainting sheep will fall in line.
A little Digging for you BT! Great past …. guess Cindy’s piggy bank will just have to be broken open for McPAin to run his campaign… Thats good news …. she has sooo much money that she really doesn’t need so why not spend it to help out Johnny boy!
Is that before or after they piddle themselves?
America should hate the GOP
Sorry for the O/T…
Loved the Jane and Amanda show down below. Amanda is such a dunce… I guess that all the folks who get blowed up in the I-RaK deserved it because they volunteered and deserve no care nor help according to her logic (takes away from her money).
And FDR the worst president ever? Hmmmm….well let’s just look at one “comparative” issue, being a “war president” seems he was vastly more successful than the current incumbent moron. On two fronts, European and Pacific no less.
Why don’t the Clintons hate the Republicans and why did the Clintons state that Obama was not qualified to be CIC and McCain was qualified to be commander in chief?
Slightly O/T- My recent response rant on another blog regarding The Sheikh:
But the question is – will she do it? Shoot, she won’t even release her tax info. Why should she have to do it? If the GOP wants John to run – come up with the money.
Oh that’s so mean.
HRC was even cited in the Tom Davis memo as being useful by being divisive in the primary silly season. Well done Hillary, really well done.
Dam wake up ” Great POST”
Terrorist.
Even the GOP hates the GOP.
I picked up a copy of Invasion of the Party Snatchers yesterday written by a Goldwater staffer and campaigner. He totally rips the Bush “administration”.
And weren’t we just talking about “my money is my money and your money is my money”? on the last thread?
McCain ‘08 – what’s in your wallet?
Shocked! I am just shocked! You rotten misogynist you! LOL…How dare you tell the truth… :^)
OT but please help out our VETS!
i’m really glad that the dem candidate is going to be able to compete in buying ads, etc – but i don’t see the lopsided fundraising as a completely good thing because it may be a sign, as chris hedges said on grit tv yesterday, that:
or mark engler at tom dispatch: Mark Engler, How to Rule the World After Bush
Whooooops here is the link: Send your Senator a letter
We’re sure Amanda would be aOK with recruiting her own army if it was needed. And driving only on roads she paid for herself, and testing her food and drugs herself.
GOPers don’t make sense.
My personal insane GOPer rails on and on and on…and on about how expensive prescription medicine is. One rx is $5/pill! So I understand why he complains. But don’t talk about public health care!!! Don’t tax me bro!
Re Obama
I hope Obama is able to make the point not that lobbyists are staffing McCain’s campaign. But that McCain himself is the one who says lobbyists should not campaign.
god damn pork barrel spending….where did I put my socks?
Anybody got a take on the crowd sizes at the Obama and Clinton events?
And is it hopelessly bitter of me to deeply resent Senator Clinton’s prolonging the divisiveness and promoting animosity with her twisting of the facts to Florida voters as she blithely urges a loophole advantage for herself that would disenfranchise my vote?
I have wondered if the GOP is funneling $$$ to Obama. Having him be McCain’s opponent may have been their best strategy to win the General Election. Despite the anomaly of them saying they wanted Hillary and she was supposedly the beneficiary of Operation Chaos. I always wondered how Obama was able to raise so much money early on. I am suspicious. Has this ever happened this way before?
Let change the tax laws so only corporations pay taxes and all of the people pay none… Besides don’t they use “our” roads, airports, bridges and tunnels for moving their goods. Let them pay for it all WTF Then there would be no fights over taxes:>) We alll WIN!.
Thanks for that Selise.
And I was also going to ask Hugh which items from his List would be the Top 5 for fixing/cleaning up. I know DOJ is right up there. I would also go for replacing the bank regulations that went MIA under Bush.
o/t
I suppose it’s a bit easier to raise money when you have a live contest going- as opposed to McBush who is running against himself- but I would expect Obama to have a big advantage in the Fall also.
Things turned out OK for him last night apparently- although the size of the loss in Ky is disturbing- made some of it up in Oregon though…
Hope he figures out how to reach the lower income white voters- what a shame if McBush picks em off.
If so, the numbers would not skew to the point of embarrassment for their own candidate.
He did just that in his speech in Tampa this morning.

I wonder how many early Hil voters are now appalled and would take back their vote in GE?
And I heard a ghastly suggestion on the radio that she might pull a Lieberman. That just gave me nausea big time. Talk about personal interests ahead of country. I have had enough!
Only $5/pill? Shit, that’s nice. Migraine meds, upwards of $20 per dose or more depending on what you have. Imitrex should have been generic by now, but Glaxo has figured out a way to extend the patent by gaming the system, and it goes for upwards of $80 per injection retail. Nothing to see here though… nothing at all.
Awesome! thanks for letting me know!
If the wife keeps her finances separate from the husband, and they file separate tax returns, and she doesn’t feel the need to dislose any of her financial holdings to the public in lieu of her status as wife of the candidate, can she legally still donate unlimited amounts to his campaign and cart him around in “her company’s” private plane?
[sniff…sniff…] Anyone else picking up a hint of troll?
The GOP hates anything and anyone that stands in the way of their continued plunder gathering activities.
It’s called an investment.
She will get her money back. Take a look at Halliburton’s stock, you know it’s a pretty good investment, if you win.
Remember that if McCain accepts public financing for the General Election, he is not allowed to raise any money for it. That’s why his number is zero, because is planning to get the public money.
I continue to have this gnawing concern that she and Bill are gonna try to take the nomination away by backroom “force.”
She recently joked (quoting a supporter, to be sure) “It ain’t over ’til the lady in the pants suit says it is.”
I wonder what that means, hmmmm….
BobbyG: I for one do not understand your point. What is it?
What ever it is, it seems to be at cross-purposes with getting Obama elected President.
schnerk!
My gooper’s pain is always greater than anyone else’s.
Sorry!
(But wow! $20? holy crap, batman!)
Yep.
Clinton asking people to go to her website, join over 300,000 others on petition to overturn the primary process and use Hillary math and Hillary rules to make her the nominee.
Anybody started a petition yet to just say no?
Got my first meds for allergies the other day. My co-pay was $60 for 30 pills. If I had to pay full price it would have been $165. That’s just one of 5 meds I take. How does anyone manage something like that with no health coverage?
I want my democracy back.
Candidates: follow the rules, dammit. or DQ.
This has me wondering… if national healthcare were done
rightcorrectly, would we end up paying less per person in taxes than we spend now on monthly premiums? As the primaries show. Hillary is getting stronger and winning more since Feb 4. Obama is losing most states and by bigger margins since Feb 4. however, he is picking up Super Delegates. His early caucus wins are less substantive than primary wins, but the delegates count the same. If the elections were redone, goodbye Obama. Why else does Obama prevent re-votes in MI and FL?
i wish! – one of my meds (granted the most expensive one, and i’m sure others have worse stories to tell) is almost $500/mo – i am very thankful that due to MA’s new negotiated insurance plans, i was able to get an insurance plan that covers most of the cost).
Anybody want toast?
Marion
I think you are right – there’s just something in the air and it ain’t jasmine.
is that true? do you have a link? thanks.
Well, you lose me equally. Expand.
All I want is highest members of the executive branch to be extradited to a foreign land, tried in an international court, and (hopefully) imprisoned for life.
No terrorism there, just good old fashioned civic duty, if ya ask me.
MMMMM, toast…. I’ve got some beautiful pear preserves to share…
Now thats a question that still needs answering?????
i don’t think that just because someone supports senator clinton, that makes them a troll. it just means i disagree.
Hmmm..is it a case of being Snark-Challenged? i.e. “The Shiekh?
as in

???
Is there a candidate who is not following the rules that should be DQ’d?
Who is it and what have they done?
Bobby you’re breakin the margins. Shorter please.
There are alot of links…..just google it and read up on it.
Well, to finish it off, the Clintons should run with McCain, all voted for and support the Iraq War and dependence on foreign fossil fuels, e.g., the McCain/Clinton proposal for the holiday gas tax rebate.
And pissing off Clinton “supporters” is a non issue. I voted for the Clintons in 92 and 96 and contributed mightily to the Clintons in the beginning of all of this. But Obama has unwraped the Clintons, no more Ferarros, Mondale and Vietnam Warhawk, superdelegate disenfranchisers. And how about a progressive telecommunications and energy policy.
LOL
I wasn’t talking about you, Selise. There seems to be another critic here abouts. I don’t mind anyone supporting Senator Clinton. I sorry that she has disappointed us all.
Remember, Hillary is now ahead in the popular vote. The popular vote in FL and MI are certified. Just because the DNC does not want to count the delegates won in FL and MI because of petty rules and arbitrary rules, does not mean that the election was invalid. The penalty was supposed to penalize the state Democratic party, not to penalize any specific candidate. All the candidates were listed in the FL primary. All the candidates were listed in the MI primary. BUT….Obama, Edwards, Biden and maybe another candidate decided on THEIR OWN to remove their names from the ballot. (because they were all losing big time). They were not required to remove their names. Hillary, Gravel, Dodd and Kucinich left their names on the ballot. The DNC should count the election as is or demand a revote….and if Obama refuses a revote, then the election results stand. Another option is to pick 2 similar type states that Obama won and not count their popular vote or their delegate votes. (if Obama has won 2 big states like she did) I am sure these states won’t mind. and their voters won’t be upset. Just like MI and FL aren’t upset…..(jocking). Democracy requires the votes be counted. Howard Dean and his petty rules has no business screwing Hillary Clinton out of a legitimate win or screwing Fl out of their rightful place and votes. The reason Florida has a problem is because the Republican House and Senate in FL would only allow the Democrats to have paper ballots in the fall instead of faulty machines and they tied it to the primary date change. Knowing the Dems could have a problem with the DNC. Although other states violated the rules (like SC, etc) were not punished. Go figure. And you hate Hillary. You have a problem with reality, the facts and decency.
The Shiekh made a great speech this morning.
I guess that’s true. I’m starting to wonder, though.
Bill:
“If we were under Republican rules, she’d already be the nominee.”
Fine. Switch parties. “Winner-Take-All” is, after all, the aggregate Repu’ublicist ethos.
Drool………
Yummy.
“because they were all losing big time”
Convenient conjecture, nothing more.
OK..what sort of toast? Whole Wheat? Rye? Sour dough?
You mean are the Clintons good at dumbing it up, maybe. But they surely do not deserve their base of poor, uneducated white voters, hispanics and all my old girlfriends over 65. If the Clintons want to win Appalachia, in a ge, they need to convince Robert Byrd. At least show some bona fide leadership.
“Remember, Hillary is now ahead in the popular vote.”
____________
And this matters precisely how?
Whole wheat bread lightly toasted, real butter, homemade strawberry preserves.
This thing’s way over. It’s in the hands of the superdelegates and they aren’t going to move en masse to Hillary unless something really major changes the picture…the primary is over.
ha, what a joke
Ok, let’s see…
All Hillary and Obama both signed a pledge saying that they would take their names off the ballot in MI if MI broke party rules. Obama lived up to his promise. Hillary did not.
The only way to claim that Hillary is ahead in the popular vote is to ignore the caucus states. Did they not vote? Even if you count MI and FL, Obama still beats Clinton in the popular vote.
That is some really bad spin. Those are the “petty and arbitrary” rules all candidates — including HRC — agreed to, beforehand.
You don’t get to say, “do over” now.
Did you notice the margin by which she won in his state?
/ducks and runs…
KO recently did a hilarious nit-by-nit snarky parsing of the myriad results that “didn’t really count” according to the Clintons. It was so spot-on.
Now you’ve done it. I just called and ordered a Garbage Burger from down the street.
Told ‘em to hold the pickles and the sink.
You know, Egreg – I am really fond of rye and pumpernickel bread, toasted, but I have yet to find a fruit preserve that tastes ok(much less good) on those two breads.
Yeah, it’s like the lamest of transparent BS. LMAO.
No One Was required to take their names off the ballots. The only plege was to not campaign in the state.
I’m wondering if peach or apricot would work.
Well, if you were Rochester, NY, you could have gone to get a Garbage Plate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garbage_plate
That’s not how we roll here. Let’s see your links.
Actually, my point is the opposite of alibe50. Obama has won. As such, what in the world motivates some of you to continue this maniacal assualt on Clinton? If your goal is the same as mine, electing Obama in the general, I would suggest you consider tempering your remarks.
Jesus H.! I think I hear Alberto Gonzales. “Less substantial causus votes,” “what do petty rules matter,” “Florida and Michigan already certified,” “more victories after February 4,” “ahead in the popular vote.”
Non of us are superdelegates. Most of us have already voted. What do you think your accomplishing by excreting this kind of crap and giving the Clinton campaign a worse reputation than it’s already earned?
Brilliant. . .
And, had they campaigned, you simply cannot now claim to know what the upshot would have been.
Nice try, but utterly weak.
It would take me two days to eat that much food!
Yeah- I saw it. Bottom line is that the best she can hope for is enough delegates in hand to be an understudy in case the primary actor can’t perform.
Obama’s got it- time to start the general election..He’s good at attacking McBush- and he seems to be working on getting the locks to tumble with working class whites- Ironically- they’re his people!
The Clintons won big time in WVA, like they ever did anything for WVA. Their voters in WVA are reactionaries, you know that, the Clintons know that. Boo to the Clintons.
soon as she bails, and what’s all this concern about “remarks” on a friking blog, like she gives a shit.
I’m glad that Clinton stayed in through Kentucky. That helped a lot. Now it’s time to move on and Obama is doing that. He took on McCain this morning.
If she stands down, I will never utter another peep toward her. While she continues to hint at stealing it (e.g., McCauliffe’s smarmy shit last night), I will keep objecting to her.
Obama went into general election mode a week or two ago- which was smart. He need never mention Hillary again except to say some nice things about her.
Maybe I answered my own question. Alibe50 seems to want do damage both Democratic campaigns.
I think old gold was trying really nicely to say, “Don’t be an asshole” because our goals come November are the same.
That was FL. In MI, they pledged to remove their names from the ballot.
My goals have nothing to do with either Clinton.
If you get a change, read the wiki – at U of R, there is a three man race where one guy runs to the restaurant, one guy is there and eats the food and the last guy runs back to the campus. When one guy tries to do it all alone, the race is called “The Iron Man” (it should probably be called “The Iron Stomach” and they should have EMTs standing by).
The two major issues for me are ending the Mess in Mess O’Potamia and appointments to SCOTUS, and I think that the war has become the real differentiator for me anyhow. I know the economy sucks, but I’m pretty sure that both HRC and Obama will provide proactive solutions which will have the dual effect of both working and pissing off the GOP since they work. Health Care is not going to be solved in one term, maybe not even two but both will make a start, it’s the quiet “hot button” issue right now sort of the 600 pound button no one wants to press…
So keeping SCOTUS appointments out of the hands of McBush is important… that’s the gift that keeps on giving (Thomas, Scalia, Alito, Roberts) and is more important than almost anything else. Clinton for SCOTUS? Then we’ll see if she loves her some “little people”…
[sniff… sniff…] As above at 38.
The SCOTUS implications, yeah, yikes. Read my “Diploid Dave” blog post.
i know – i am sooooo not a clinton fan (of either one of them!). was just trying to follow scarecrow’s good advice from this morning, even if i did give him some grief about it.
I understand that, but it would be silly not to use Clinton to further your own goals come November. Regardless of your or my opinion of the Clintons, they do bring needed support to beat the GOP.
The GOP doesn’t care about fair, and they don’t mind cheating. I think this election has to be a landslide if stealing it is to be prevented. Increasing the distance between the Clinton and Obama suporters does not help the cause.
What would help the cause would be if she would accept friggin defeat!
no thank you. imo, it’s your responsibility to provide support for your claims, not mine.
Well, I really am not overly concerned about what she thinks. I am interested in attracting as many of her supporters as possible to Obama’s campaign for President.
This continued personal assualt on her is not going to be helpful in that regard.
I saw that.
Crazy.
Oh, so if I have a long held opposition to her and her husband, and people are going to pop in here with that Florida and Michigan bullshit I’m supposed to just shine it on?
And to think I use to think Firedoglake was full of intelligent commenters.
I guess that was a few months ago. Things have changed. facts and reality take aback seat to people who must be paid Obama supporters. Check out the real story Of Mi and FL. Call the DNC. Google the election returns of MI and see that MI had 4 Dems on the ballot. Clinton, Dodd, Gravel and Kucinich. I don’t need to lie, but you Obama people do because he or his supporters lie. OBAMA TOOK HIS NAME OFF when he didn’t have to.
If you have never been to Rochester, NY in the winter, you’d understand. U of R and RIT have underground tunnels between the buildings for a reason.
OT, but has anyone noticed oil just went over $130 a barrel today? With Pickens and Goldman Sachs happily chatting about $150-$200 just over the horizon?
Why are we not collectively manning the pitchforks and torches and heading to Washington DC regarding this outrage?
(Metaphorically, of course, due to FDL’s zero tolerance policy)
China and India have little to do with record highs being hit every day.
The hedge funds and commodities traders are killing us, and what’s even more frightening, they’re so greedy they can’t stop themselves.
To call them pigs would be to insult bacon; pigs eventually stop eating, these criminals don’t.
Fuckin right, I’m cashin mu Obama check right now.
If you want to make an assertion, YOU be ready with the evidence. Stop making everybody else do your work for you.
Yeah, but it makes me feel better to read that I’m not alone in thinking of her someone with a sense of entitlement who has acted in a way that has hurt the party she claims to represent, and has been a useful tool of the GOP establishment in propagating messages of Obama’s “unelectability”.
Let’s face it, she’s as far removed from the coal miners of West Virginia as any politician can be, but she’s managed to ensure that they won’t be supporting Obama even if it’s in their own self-interest to do so (he’s an African-American elitist, who thinks they’re bitter doncha know?).
And I use to be able to spell.
Can I make an impersonal assualt?
There is no need to insult people’s intelligence. Just state your facts and back it up. If your facts stand, then you are contributing. It’s really that simple.
Clinton’s support of the Iraq War for more than 3 years is why she should never be taken seriously on foreign policy.
The funny math that Clinton uses to explain why she is ahead when she is behind is why she can’t be trusted on the economy either.
You may make an assault as long as you pepper it with facts. :)
This pretty much sums it up for me.
Clinton said the election wouldn’t count for anything.
Period. That is what the Candidates agreed to.
david upstairs with “The Stupid It Burns: Media Fan Flames Of Immigration Irrationality”
voting for kyl-lieberman and her vote against rules for cluster bombs usage didn’t help either.
Absolutely. I can tell you that I am seeing two things in terms of natural gas(and again, there is no issue with supply and the temperatures are such in our area that demand is not an issue either): prices this month are not only 1.5 times higher than they were one year ago, but also the price spread from day to day is crazy. In terms of the entire range of prices one year ago, the differentiation across the entire month(low to high) was about 40 cents. This month — 90 cents. So we’ve not only got people pushing on the price end, but also on the volatility end as well.
She was dodging sniper fire at the time. Be fair.
-sigh- thanks for making this bush v gore 2008 edition 2.0. If HRC wants to count phantom votes, fine. But the reality is that both states were told not to do what they did, and that their actions had consequences. It’s not the fault of the voters that the Democratic powers that be in FL and MI wanted to be “kingmakers” ahead of Iowa, but it sure as hell wasn’t a mystery what would happen either.
What’s next? HRC’s version of the “Brooks Brothers riot” at the Convention? Jeebus.
eeek, my last was supposed to be for alibe50, not hugh. Bad choice of “reply” tags. Sorry.
Let me invite my fellow Obama supporters to make a pledge that ON THE DAY AFTER HILLARY CONCEDES we WILL give another $25.08 to the Obama campaign, and just for good luck and to encourage party unity, $25.08 to the DCCC.
Best-case scenario, (Yes We Can!), $50,000,000 in pledges on the day after Hillary concedes ought to impress even the DLCers. And I am sure Van Hollen could find a way to use that other $50,000,000 for those down-ticket races.
Here’s what we can do about it. Click this link to send Van Hollen a pledge/promise that you will contribute $25.08 to the DCCC the day after Hillary concedes, and another $25.08 to the Obama campaign.
Don’t send any emails to the campaign itself, just make sure you include in your letter to Van Hollen that $25.08 is going to the campaign and $25.08 is going to the DCCC, then let the DCCC tell the campaign about it.
But don’t make the DCCC contribution until Hillary concedes.
If you want, copy and paste this letter in your email;
Congressman Van Hollen:
I am at this time making a pledge that the day after Hillary Clinton concedes this race, I will contribute $25.08 to the DCCC and $25.08 to the Obama campaign.
Signed_________________________
Plain and simple… and your .08 will always identify you as one of these pledge signers.
Mass bribery, you say?
Not hardly. This is public financing at its most powerful.
Anyone else want to join the pledge list? Also, please pass it along to your own network.
And don’t hesitate to give more to the Obama campaign, this is just to serve notice that there are considerable down-ticket benefits to an Obama candidacy.
And when will that day be? And how much will the Clintons squander before that day arrives? Please be specific.
That’s very good.
When you are quoting someone else’s work, please provide attiribution and a link, thanks.
Linda Douglas [former ABC] joins Obama campaign as spokesman and strategist according to CNN
