Databases (at least veromi) give her age as SEVENTY-ONE. I think this clinches it. She’s 71. I’m about to turn 41 and in the decade-plus it’ll take for me to reach her alleged semi-youthful age, no way will I get all of those wrinkles or that leathery brown-spotted crypt-keeper chest skin.

Perhaps in old age, they’ll write some self-flagellating, McNamara-like mea culpa. But nobody else needs to wait until then to describe what they actually are.

Now I like Digby, and her work is part of my daily information charge and she has grasped half of the problem of the “new” conservative asendence, sexism is used in multiple ways to split working and middle class folks against themselves. And to her credit she absolves Obama from guilt for usin’ gender as a wedge but she repeats the charge from supporters of Mrs. Bill that Obama could have and should have been more out front in denouncing the sexism in the coverage. This completely ignors the fact that “she who should forever remain nameless” not only didn’t denounce the blatant racism used quite successfully against Obama in the media and within the party, but she actually used the racist tact in several important primary contests – Pennsylavania and West Virginia – and didn’t stand with Obama when the Rev Wright smear was bein’ applied, indeed she took advantage of it. But for all it’s limitations Digby’s take on sexism in the campaign coverage is worht the read.

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that while in Israel for President Bush’s recent visit there, “a senior member of the president’s entourage” said Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney want to attack Iran before they leave office. This person also allegedly said that the attack is being held up by reservations on the part of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

There have also been news conferences where Bush was asked directly whether it was his current intent to attack Iran before leaving offices and, with one of his characteristic wry smirks, he said “all options are on the table.”

My best guess is that he intends to do it: “Cain’t hurt; we’d prolly lose teh ‘lection an’way.”

That likelihood of an Iran attack is what I think needs to be stopped. And, IMHO, the only thing that can stop it is an impeachment inquiry.
