Reading a CNN report on a homeless woman in California (video here), I came across this:
Harvey now works part time for $8 an hour, and she draws Social Security to help make ends meet. But she still cannot afford an apartment, and so every night she pulls into a gated parking lot to sleep in her car, along with other women who find themselves in a similar predicament.
There are 12 parking lots across Santa Barbara that have been set up to accommodate the growing middle-class homelessness. These lots are believed to be part of the first program of its kind in the United States, according to organizers.
The lots open at 7 p.m. and close at 7 a.m. and are run by New Beginnings Counseling Center, a homeless outreach organization.
It is illegal for people in California to sleep in their cars on streets. New Beginnings worked with the city to allow the parking lots as a safe place for the homeless to sleep in their vehicles without being harassed by people on the streets or ticketed by police.
Well, we all know that California is usually several steps ahead of the rest of the country in fashions — cultural, economic, and otherwise. I fully expect we’ll be seeing similar programs cropping up wherever the Big Shitpile is hitting the fan, compliments of the economic stewardship of George W. Bush & Co.
Can’t afford a home? Well, you can take up residence in your car in a parking lot at night, just like these fine middle-class housewives do.
These transient homes for the once-prosperous deserve their own name, too. I propose we call them Bushvilles.
You all remember Hoovervilles from your history books, don’t you?
They were products of an eerily similar economic policy: favor the wealthy, soak the poor, and screw the middle, then let God sort it out:
A Hooverville was the popular name for a shanty town, examples of which were found in many United States communities during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The name Hooverville has also been used to describe the Tent Cities commonly found in America.
The word "Hooverville" derives from the name of the President of the United States at the beginning of the Depression, Herbert Hoover. They used Hoover’s name because they were frustrated and disappointed with his involvement in the relief effort for the Depression. In addition to financial troubles during the Depression, a drought in the Mississippi Valley forced farmers to auction their land for taxes and reside in Hoovervilles.
These settlements were often formed in horrible neighborhoods or desolate areas and consisted of dozens or hundreds of shacks and tents that were temporary residences of those left unemployed and homeless by the Depression. People slept in anything from open piano crates to the ground. Authorities did not officially recognize these Hoovervilles and occasionally removed the occupants for technically trespassing on private lands, but they were frequently tolerated out of necessity.
There’s certainly no shortage of parking lots these days. And no shortage of the newly homeless. In a world in which economic failure is just a matter of survival of the fittest, the two obviously go together well — though I do wonder what happens when the occupants can no longer afford the gas to drive their cars, either. Most likely those parking-lot slots will become semi-permanent homes, and the lots themselves little cities.
Bushvilles. Has a certain ring, doesn’t it?
[A hat tip to sadlyyes.]

Heckuva job.
Lights out.
Aloha, David!
Well, they can’t be called Obamavilles, eh? ;-)
Subaru suite for one please. I would like freshly painted lines marking my space too.
I wonder how many people in this country will perish from staying in their cars with the heat on (if they can afford the gas to do so) or having their kitchen stoves/kerosene heaters/improperly vented, hastily installed woodstoves in their homes this fall/winter because they cannot afford to stay warm.
How many will not be able to buy food?
How many more will not be able to buy their meds?
How many more will just give up?

Things are getting truly scary. What’s going to happen when gas hits $10/gallon?
Those parking lots will become permanent homes then…! 8-(
Cooking in a car is rather tricky, especially in snowstorms when the stove heat meets a very cold window and shatters.. Reading by the little interior light is no fun either.
Read the comments. Very enlightening.
Where does one register to vote if they live in a parking lot?
Pinning Bush’s name to this would be a lot more effective if he gave a rat’s ass.

Foreign countries, hostile to the U.S. are attempting to manipulate
our election and economy by driving up the price of oil. Our not
drilling for oil, not building refineries or nuclear plants doesn’t
help either. The earth has been warming and cooling since the
beginning of time. Pass this on. Jack

When I was a GI in Hawaii, I had a two week period when I was without an apartment and no barracks room and I lived out of my car. And I was fortunate in that I could shower at friend’s places and crash on the sofa a couple of nights.
Not good times. I can’t imagine having to do it today and at my age but as always, the inconceivable is quite possible.
But it isn’t only George Bush’s name. This could be our Jebbie insurance — or Prescott Bush or Pierce Bush insurance. If this keeps them all away from the public trust forever, then I’m all for it.
This.
The pundits argue whether we are in a recession.
I have felt for a long time that we are speeding toward the 2nd Depression.
The women interviewed, one of whom had found a place for her daughter to stay, all said they’d run out of options at friends’ and family’s homes. All said the major issue for them was hygiene. Presumably, the public safety aspects are covered by the Santa Barbara police department. I did worry if the story would bring out wackos, though.
I can only be a matter of time before those of us lucky enough to have a roof will be faced by someone at our doors asking for something to eat.. Thanks Dick and his pet boy, Georgie, heckuva job.
i think this was a part of their original vision. there’ll be losses, but they are necessary!
Oil topped 131.00 today.
I bet Cheney went out and shot something to celebrate.
Leave it to the Bushies GOP to ensure the “Greatest Generation” spend their last years fearing the Depression that haunted their childhoods.
(that is, those of the “Greatest Generation” who survived the Nazi armor Pescott Bush financed)
Yeah, you can really only impose on friends and family for just so long in those types of situations before wearing out the welcome…
wow
heavy!
very interesting take on this!
Imagine finding or keeping an indoor job…

Just a small difference of editorial opinion.

Evening, Suz!
The Constitutional and Economic crises we face today are a result of Republicans through and through, and the DLC Dem enablers.
We must never let them separate themselves from the Death and Destruction they have caused by simply saying, “Oh, that was the Bush Admin, We’re the real Repubs…” None of this would’ve happened without them actively spreading the propaganda, and shouting and shutting down any opposition FOR YEARS.
The economic Darwinism and “I got mine” attitude embedded within modern day Republicanism will always lead these same results. Always. It’s built into the entire strategy.
So?
The people have finally got lots from Bu$h Co.
How one-derful.
“Live in one of the new, spacious as all outdoors, twenty-first century modern complexes brought to you by our very own one-der boy and his side-kick, dead-eye Dick … visit Bushville or Cheneytown today, and see if you can’t imagine yourself and your family and all your friends, living in the latest, greatest and bestest place in town, convenient to shopping and recreation destinations … talk about ‘location’ and security too, all our locations are gated and patrolled. Don’t miss the chance to be the first in your neighborhood to move into the future. Ample parking always available. The right crowd and no crowding …”
“CHIMPY KAZOO and CHENEY TOO, always doin’ their best for you …”
Smirk-all Inc. A Car-lie-all unlimited sudsidiary company.
This Snark is only for entertainment purposes and should never be approached as anything but utter and total nonsense, unless it becomes all too real, in which case I will deny knowing anything at all … about … anything at all.
Maybe Pelosi would listen if we change the fruit… How about, IMPRUNE! (with pits)
I bet Cheney went out and shot
somethingsomeone to celebrate.INAM I’m not a Mod but I fixed it for you Darth shoots People for fun!
Wow! Another good reason to be an SUV.
With a TV Monitor in the back seat.
Who knew?
Heh, nice job…! ;-)
Sorry I didn’t read your comment before I wrote mine:(
Nice.
Imcumquat doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?
Thanks, Suz.
Shoot. to BUY an SUV.
As if.
I happen to have very fond memories of hooterville.
Oh, wait…
A standing ovation for this comment! So true and to paraphrase a bumper sticker, “We must never forget”
david, do you see this as individual problems by each city or do you think that there will be federal assistance for the bushville residents?
actually, it’s been in the back of my mind since Katrina that they actually are advocating for the poorest and/.or sickest of us to DIE.
MOVE ON.
i’ve been saying for a couple of years now that he (bu$h/cheney) is trying to kill us. and to quite a large extent, i think it’s true. look at the people who have died on their watch, not even counting the wars! the food poisoning, the lack of meds and medical care, the increase in homelessness, the FOOD POISONING, the lead in chit from China, and on and on and on.
i think the more of us die, the better it is for THEM.
i know i know, it sounds wacked out conspiracy talk. but LOOK at the facts! the whole negation of security concerns at airports, shipping ports, etc., the poisoning of the environment, the lack of protection on the streets, or worse, persecution, the WHOLE BANANA. just LOOK at it and tell me there’s not a common thread of thought there.
Any bets on how long it will take for this story to make the TV news.
Incidentally, the Hooverville in the photo was in Seattle. It’s right about where Safeco Field now sits.
I’m sure it’ll start somewhat localized, depending on economic conditions. But Tent Cities can be found everywhere now.
LOL!
I’ll drive there to check it out sometime.
Well, just to spite them I’m not going. :)
Too bad the Gong Show’s not around anymore.
Not when we’re shelling out the bucks to fund Iraq…!
lol! ME NEITHER! in fact, i’m on a friggin HEALTH KICK! lost weight, working out,
eating LOCAL grown everything.
goooood luck aholes!
lol
there was a post here at the lake a few weeks ago about the tent city down in the san bernadino – iirc, the families were forced to leave that location for lard knows where.
Does anyone have a feeling that if we saw the energy report that Cheney refused to turn over we might find that there were two outcomes for the “energy policy” offered; the first was that the energy companies would get cheap Iraqi oil and be able to set prices independent of the Saudi/OPEC cartel; the second was that the war would cause worldwide demand-side shortages and thus allow speculation, profits from speculation and windfall profits in perpetuity from the sort-of “artificial” shortages.
Tin-foil hat stuff? Maybe. But let’s face it, if those documents even hinted at any of this, especially option one there would be no member of congress except maybe John Boner who would stand in the way of an impeachment hearing, maybe even a “two-fer”.
Oh, and I vote for “Bushville” too… has a nice ring to it that will hang around longer than his liberry and big-print version of “My Pet Goat”.
You’re right about them wanting us to die. True republicans could give a rat’s ass about abortion, they just turn on the fake piety to appease to religious freaks.
You can see Smith Tower in the background.
Oh how sad. Makes me so grateful for what I have.
Tom Joads all around us…..
and how we can so easily lose everything
so many of us are just one more bad break away from losing a lifetime’s work thanks to boosh co.
Katrina is the perfect example; still large numbers of homeless, in tents, public grounds, etc. Early on there was the strategy to “starve the beast” to deplete all safety net resources; the job has been remarkably successful. Get rid of any govt except the bounty/rewards of war.
SUVs are dropping in value faster much than houses. Car dealers here won’t take them for trade-ins; they have too many used on their lots already.
I suppose an SUV doesn’t cost much to run if it’s sitting still and you’re living in it.
I feel the same. I remember recessions from as far back as the 70s and this is nothing like them.
yeah and there’s a self aggrandizement thing there with that one too! otherwise, they’d be allll advocating FOR it!
Hey, Jo! Well, Greenspan did let the cat outta the bag, when he said it was about the oil…!
Yep! TOTAL Shock Doctrine policies.
But, sleeping in a car can be so romantic.
“I’ve got a ‘37 wagon and they call it a woodie.”
David, thanks for this excellent post.
FWIW, Mike Whitney – on October 30, 2006 – saw this crash coming.
He also thought it’s not a bug – it’s a feature: the Bushies planned this.
(I’m too ignorant about economics to opine…)
demi! you are OT!
lol
that little weasel said it knowing it would not be believed (spitting)
………..and isn’t it startling that this comes to light in Reagan”s
Santa Barbara?
Look where downsizing “Big Government” has taken us!
I believe that friendship and family will bring us through. Always room for one more at my table or on the couch or floor of my home. And I’d like to think that some of the folks around me feel the same way.
“Bush City, here we come”
“Starving with no health care, it’s an oldie but a goodie”
“Bush City, here we come”
(everyone add a verse…it’s a bushville shindig)
ohmystars, i had not made that connection.
thank you ctill
And the USSenate took another 13 weeks of unemployment benefits out of the war funding bill, just today. When will people rise up?
It must suck to have an SUV you can’t trade in.
Too bad :(
And, by the way, gas in my neighborhood just broke 4 bucks.
It’s been hovering at 3.99 for several weeks.
Never forget indeed. So many names from scandals past fill our airwaves today, and treated as not just legitimate but the most patriotic pundits (Oliver North, G. Gordan Liddy, Elliot Abrams, etc.).
We’ve got to prosecute these people out government and media for the rest of their lives. Sadly, it’s seeming like deja vu all over again, with Rove becoming a media darling, Abu Gonezales slithering back under the rocks and so on.
Hoping that Obama has a mean streak in him along with all that compromising hope!
next election.
AGAIN!
*sigh*
Dugg!
13 duggs? We can do better than that!
To get another beer, sign their seventh mortgage and bitch about being “overtaxed” to pay for undocumented workers? Low information voters are killing us as a country.
MMMMM. Yes please!
What is Gonzo up to? I had only heard he is still in the unemployment line.
I agree that the Cheney Energy Report is the key, a blue dress if you will. It’s a scandal that’s real easy to understand and would bring down Cheney in a pacemaker beat. Several people were at the meeting, lean on a couple of those old goats and, voila, we would have a lot of answers.
He’d BETTER. or he’ll be toast. I’m thinkin he does tho.
what can be done that has not been done to get a copy of it?
Not another bygones Presidency! America simply cannot afford to have the neocons return in the 2020s to run our nation again.
Well, I hope those tent folks are paying their fair share of the taxes.
we the people demand accountability
storm troopers. safe blowers.
Congressional Men of Arms or whatever they are called.
I can see them in a firefight with Blackwater on the White House steps!
Saw most of the Central Texas firepups tonight. Great group. NDFG is a great fit! Can’t wait to host y’all during Netroots Nation. Who’s coming to Austin?
They’re working minimum wage, so they’re paying more than their fair share. They’re paying for the rich folks’ Federal benefits.
What is NDFG? Im in the neighborhood. ;)
Yea, and running the country like a business, which is mind-boggling stupid. They are not supposed to be like each other. Is government supposed to be “maximizing profits” then!?!?
Of course, maybe they were just forgetting to mention that the business they wanted to run government like was Enron.
I would start by letting Fitzpatrick unleash the IRS on all the attendees, find a tax cheat, sick RICO on him, and let him cop a plea for information.

Tru Dat.
Harvard MBA’s. Who knew…
i was not advocating violence – perhaps i should have clarified that i was seeking legal solutions
Email me at Tex Betsy at g mail and I’ll get you on our mailing list. Where are you?
Documents? That’s not the way Cheney operates.
I like that~! Delicious retribution for criminalz…
Haven’t heard, but surely he’ll have no problem finding a very high-paying gig if not already. He’s considered a hero in their world. No doubt he’s also helping them scheme their next coup, and the next piece of the Constitution to remove.
then why does he have man-sized safes?
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/b/b…..25049.html
Surfer girl! I didn’t know that.
Isn’t that where they keep binLadin between videos?
What is might take to get the attention of Congress on the mortgage/foreclosure crisis:
Member of Congress has home foreclosed and turned over to the bank.
Actually there are documents, and Cheney has denied them to Congress (battle one lost via the friendly Supremes) by a claim of faux “executive privilege”. We the People need to see them, and see what they did to us as a country.
Fairly central Austin.
The Speaker needs to call a rump session after the November elections and impeach Cheney. It’s practically mandatory. It could be done in a day.
New Zogby Poll out tonight shows GW Clusterfuck with a 23% Job Approval Rating.
I win!! I’ve been in for 23% for months now!
He’s a real estate lawyer. Presumably he’s putting together the Paraguay digs. But I doubt he has any interest in going near the Constitution again soon — too confusing!
Wild.
However, the country loses. So there is that.
But Bush was suppose to be immune from criticism about the economy because he was suppose to win the Iraq war.
Hitler did a “Shock Doctrine ” too but imagine what the Germans would have said to him if he got bogged down in Poland for 7? years.
We have gotten so lucky imagine what the Left and the Antiwar Movement in this country would be if Bush had won in Iraq as planned.
Playdates with Lynne
Congratulations, Ask about the Pony.
wow, thanks, gonna put that in the news box
COOL! Bunch of us nearby. We do picnics and such from time to time and have had dinner together a few times since the FarmGirll moved to San Antonio 10 days ago. Email me!
That last for Egregious.
Evening all. Another classic example of innovative Republican thinking. This is their response to the need for affordable housing.
Bush City here I come just as soon as I can afford the gas?
Ha!
If did have one, I’d be rich.
Wonder what a cherry version would be worth today.
But, it could prolly sleep 6. Four inside and two on the roof.
The roof would be considered The Loft.
I’m pretty sure we still have some ponies left from the ‘06 Congressional elections.
This “gas crisis” is the perfect time for Olbermann to talk up Cheney’s Energy Task Force. Give Olddick the full court press and pray that MSM picks up on it.
Great. Thanks, I will.
Good- give em some oats for me.
too confusing…heh.
Yes, he gets lost with the first sentence!
Obama did talk about it in his speech today(?) and about the 40 meetings he’s held with big oil…
i wanna see the sparkly pony when he dips below 20%
I was joking. Didn’t think I needed the /s.
Wow.
She has to recuse herself on all the bailout legislation. What an interesting concept — not voting on things that will benefit you directly. She must be a Democrat.
23 percent approval—that’s not good- that’s bad- that’s REALLY bad…
Yes he did and I was clapping. I think Obama is going to hit them with everything. :)
I think that the oil futures market is inflated by financial speculators I think that the price will drop when a month from now a year I don’t know but I see $50 a barrel oil.
Although the market with all this invade Iran talk does have a reason to be scared.
Here it is.
Thanks for the ray of hope.
Torture porno.
sorry, i was joking. maybe it wasn’t funny.
sorry.
I have read at least 2 reports of his having trouble getting a job; reason given as his legal problems. Apparently, not getting any help from his “sponsors.” Maybe that’s a nicer explanation than saying he doesn’t know how to read the law.
I’ve really liked everything I’ve read about Obama’s mom. Seems like she would’ve fit in well around here and you’d think she wouldn’t this nonsense to happen again.
Let’s hope his mother’s influence is strong within him.
Perjurer. Not a supposed perjurer, but a nailed perjurer.
And a doofus to boot.
Gitmo Gonzales is radioactive.
Oh suzanne! This is the perfect sparkle pony.
i understand – and hopefully you understand why i had to say it :)
Here is a good indication of how they feel about Bush over at State.
http://washingtonbureau.typepa…..ell-a.html
yellow to match the tie he wears when he is lying
You’re making SparklestheIguana jealous!
Never thought about that before.
He must really get sick of wearing the yellow tie.
Oh snap! I was wondering what the significance of the yellow tie was.
i do, Suzanne, I do! i need to tone down that chit. it’s really all talk. I put a huge cricket out of the bathtub this morning. i can’t hurt anything to the point of being ridiculous. but sometimes, i get so outraged at what the thugs have done to my country, that i let words fly that just don’t reflect me atoll!
i hope YOU understand.
it shows how upset they get when faced with ridicule. we gotta get them laughing when dana says her lies at the white house briefings.
what would bush do if someone were to start laughing out loud at bush’s comments?
I just have to say this.
There are so many fabulous comments on this site every day.
Clever ones. Funny ones. Snarky ones. Thought provoking and tender ones.
But, my nomination for the most superlative one was made today on Jane’s post of an interview with the young and unexperienced Amanda Carpenter.
And, when Eureka Springs, man of few words, posted the link to Oh Mandy, I just about peed my pants.
ES!!!! You are sublime.
Maybe he could be the one to spill the beans on Cheney’s oil task force. He may want to bargain for his own freedom. What a lovely irony.
i do understand siri
emotions can run hot and things can be said that are later regretted. one of the things i like about the lake is its non-violence policy, including fantasy violence.
i’d had to moderate myself many times.
Sorry LooHoo – no snark intended here.
wow
Roger THAT, demi. about the many many amazing and fabulous comments on this site daily!
i learn and can say i am a better person for reading these wise and astounding peeps here at this place.
Had dinner with a friend who has two dogs. My dog is having a sniffy fit…Come on girl- get OVER it.
To store all the Mittbots?
i’ll do better, and thanks!
Yeah what ever happened to the Secret Energy Task Force and their plan to make America energy
independent?Seems like the last I heard about it everyone wanted to know if Darth gave Enron the Word to pillage California’s power market.
An action which directly led to Arnold being elected by a referendum that the GOP just had all ready with a candidate who seemed ready like he knew something like this might happen?
Gonzales attended Cheney’s meetings??
gotta link or are you gonna make me hunt for it?
Well, who knows? But I think they were at the White House. I was thinking more that he would know what was going on. If he could recall….
gonzo was the white house lawyer before he was ag the ag. dayam straight he was involved and/or knows what went on.
You are right, let’s not forget Enron. Wasn’t it convenmient when Kenny-Boy Lay “died”? I bet Ken’s already in Paraguay
Yeah.
And not in Cheney’s closet?
I actually saw that at one presser. I can’t remember what the question was, but when Dana gave her answer, the whole press poll just busted out.
Thanks.. I laughed for thirty minutes when that YouTube popped up in a search.. Amanda dearest deserved nothing more..)
I think Cheney’s closet is in Paraguay. Fewer questions and less chance of it being opened there.
Here ya go, babe
http://firedoglake.com/2008/05…..m/#Respond
at #102.
Dana Peroxide will leave the White House and walk directly into a stand up comic job.
My guess is that Lay is in Asuncion, Paraguay with a new face, contacts and a tan..
thanks demi ((( )))
I thought that was her current job.
es’s actual remark (with the link)
What is her rep or her opponent’s rep is she Blue America material because by walking away from her house she just publicly did something that if every American in money trouble from a house did could bankrupt banks.
I think she will get censored by the House of Representatives at the very least, maybe more.
SOmebody created an outlet for Geraldine Feraro.
Ask Geraldine
Or further South of the Border I hope.
Imagine how pissy Barbara’s Idiot Child would get if he was laughed at. Thrilling to think about.
i would prefer she walk directly into congressional and/or grand jury investigations
I dunno if anyone above mentioned this before, but i’ve heard them referred to as Shruburb’s as well. Definitely a nasty sign of the times and must be remedied in some way of form.
nixon was toast when the late night talk show hosts (johnny carson etc) started laughing at him. boosh needs more direct laughter – the in his face kind.
I thought Bush was the one who looked into men’s eyes and saw their soul?
I thought Bush was the one who liked to wear a cod piece in front of cheering sailors who hadn’t been offshore in a while.
Speaking of that, did you catch Froomkins column today? About the White House “hate letter” (read mammoth pout and chastisement) to NBC over that recent interview with the chimperor??? Was ridiculous. was hysterical. pointing out that bu$h got madder and madder at the questions, which were actually right on target re his “legacy” and his “policies”……
read it if you didn’t already.
i’ve heard that one too – i like using the terms bushville and cheneytown simply because they roll off the tongue easily.
I wonder if Bush wore a Sailor’s suit later that night and Sang YMCA?
Shruburb. That’s good, since it keeps alive Molly Ivins’ Shrub nickname.
Probably get censored….. too many @#$%$#@#$%$#@ wanting to get out to tell her how much her arguments are BS…..
froomkin is on my must read daily list – he is one of us.
updated 6:56 a.m. PT, Wed., May. 21, 2008
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An appeals court judge who successfully battled an ethics panel for the right to criticize President Bush and the war in Iraq was voted off the bench Tuesday, six years after his remarks first attracted controversy.
Wendell Griffen, a Baptist minister who joined the state’s second-highest court in 1996, lost decisively to a juvenile court judge. His opponent did not discuss Griffen’s comments during the campaign but credited them in part for her victory.
“I think it’s fair to say that there were a lot of people in the community who were disappointed with the statements he’s made over the years,” Judge Rita Gruber said.
MSNBC
Rita Gruber?
This Geraldine was funny … Ms Ferraro is hurling the same remarks her forefathers had to endure
as Italian- Americans migrating to the land of Liberty … utterly despicable !
that’s PRICELESS!
Come on her act like that Baghdad Bob guy during the invasion of Iraq was so at odds with reality I’m hopping she tries her
comedy actlies in front of a judge.yes. he. is!
ick! and she’s soooooo smug about it. and the Pig-Bay thing! omg!
THIS is where the Central Texas firepups had supper. Anyone want leftovers? I think Greenwarrior boxed em all up.
Don’t forget Jeff Gannon. “Just like boot camp” but don’t worry Jeff never leaves a mark.
before a judge usually starts out with a grand jury investigation
is how libby started out
when this whole thing is over- i can imagine a great movie made up of “Greatest Hits” by shrub press secretary’s.. Could show it at midnight and have the audience vote on biggest whoppers.
Except the seared tuna. I ate it all.
*erp*
Each one of ‘em had enough for their own, Ari, Scott, Tony, and, last but not least, Miz Pig Missile…! ;-)
That’s a great example of why I think Conglomerate Media issues are perhaps the most important issues for us to tackle.
With just the slightest bit of scrutiny, the entire Republican platform collapses like Gary Bauer at a Bisquick convention.
http://www.thedailyshow.com/vi…..mId=121896
These Killers would never be elected if they actually had to defend their policies and actions, and if BigMedia commentary analyzed them truthfully.
My choice was Tony … he taught Dana well …
So no one can serve him a subpoena?
I don’t know…
WOW
check THIS out!
it is awesome!
Sorry siri – no can link-to…
I think it is a franchise operation. You pay in and the company provides all the supplies, etc.
wanna try that link again? – i can’t fix that one
I’m late to the party, just got caught up with the comments.
I’m glad to see you all have been Digging away…
Well, some of you, anyway…:)
Ya wanna try again, siri, 404 error…!
Tony and Dana disgust me.
evenin’ all.
did everyone see Jane smack down the Generation Why Me? girly girl earlier today? Amanda needs to read this post.
I think of the Hoover analogy often and was wondering when it would go public. here we are. great post David.
dang, only 19 diggs. i know there are more than 19 pups here
OK
sorry,
HERE!
http://video.aol.com/video-det…../204270794
really! take a listen, you will be glad you did!
Nope the Secret Service just erases any evidence Jeff was at the White House or who he met with. Yet Bush is trusted by the Homophobes because he opposes gay marriage.
Reagen, Bush 1, Bush 2 almost 20 years of GOPers promising to end Abortion (still legal) gays in the military, gay getting married, Mexicans stealing jobs, Welfare (code for Black people) and 20 years later just what has the GOP accomplished?
GOPers seem to like being fed lines and they don’t seem to care if you fulfill any of your promises.
I think you are abusing the privilege of that front row seat at this blog, CTuttle!
Besides Pig Missile, I thought Scott had the biggest gaffes to deal with…! ;-)
Drat … snark tag did not post …
I’m like Helen Thomas…! ;-)
This is not among the reasons why L Rock voters tossed Wendell out. Just, FYI.
don’t think you can’t have your foul mouth fem blog pass revoked!
I like Helen a lot.
That’s why I’m not saying anything further. :-)
scott never tried to use his good looks as a defense against hard questions, unlike mz dana pig missle does
Alright, I’ll move into Gannon’s vacated spot…! ;-)

I love Helen Thomas.
Any chance someone will fire up the flying dildo and interrupt either Bush or Dana Perino anytime soon?
Seems fitting for the pack of flying dildo’s running the nation.

you might want to rephrase that one, dear.
Aren’t ya giving her too much credit… Good looks…? ;-)

Aloha, DD!
This one makes Twenty
So there:>) now go digg it
yep
We must never let them separate themselves from the Death and Destruction they have caused by simply saying, “Oh, that was the Bush Admin, We’re the real Repubs…” None of this would’ve happened without them actively spreading the propaganda, and shouting and shutting down any opposition FOR YEARS.
This is true however, you can’t let the dem leadership off the hook when the speaker takes impeachment of the table. As far as I’m concerned the dems are complicit and have aided bushco in every crime they’ve committed since they won the majority. How the dems allowed a president to be impeached over a blow job but now turn around and take inpeachment off the table for a president who’s a lying, murder, imbecile?
nope.
what is the miz pig missle reference?
or don’t I want to know?
hey nahant – how goes – neuro’s been digging away with little competition (laughing)
I want you to remember that you have that seat because you have the respect of your peers and I want you to think about that the next time you even think about asking a question.
Speaking of unedited footage and the WH… “War of Words or Setting the Record Straight…?”
Yes, I’ve missed you, nahant!
gnite dr d
no chit!!!!
GREAT post and point! and the dems ARE complicit and should be held responsible since the elections of 06 for EVERY DEATH in Iraq, for every broken law, for every DOLLAR!
How was the family get-together…? ;-)
That was just a thing of beauty.
ROTFLMAO.
Gary seems a very good sport!
press secretary dana didn’t know what the bay of pigs/cuban missle crisis was.
Good night all.
I would like to see Obama visit some Bushvilles and take the press entourage with him.

With Edwards in tow…! ;-)
Night Betsy;)

hell! with MCSAME in tow! let’s hear his stump speech from one of those places!
Company is almost gone… one more Dinner (Chicken CACCIATORE with Cheese Ravioli’s) to prepare tomorrow night then will be back to normal till next weekend when the college son comes home for the summer! But it will be good to have him home as this may be his last one at home.
Boy, now I feel really old.
I guess we have to remember that a lot of young men and women have fortunately grown up during peacetime. Their grandparents or great grandparents (this boggles my kids’ minds) are the ones who put it on the line. They don’t really fathom the costs that were paid as a last resort.
more than a few veterans there, I’d bet
They could have used a little more wasabi. I couldn’t even tell.
Otherwise, fabuloso!
Bus is living in his own little carefully constructed world. When President Pinchface McPursedlips responded to Engel’s question that prior to the war Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas were in a weaker position and had been emboldened by G.W. Pudslap and Dark Side Dick Bush answered a question that only he heard.
“All those groups were in existence before the war”.
This is the honest man the 28% Militia still stand behind.
What a flying dildo.

Just great went late into the night both Saturday and Sunday evenings…
Wow, great post CTuttle. Now I really have to ask you for your press pass before someone loses their job…
Don’t they teach that stuff in junior high any more?
Night TB.

Nancy Pelosi was interviewed on the NewsHour and said an Obama/Clinton ticket is very likely…
isn’t it down to 23 percent now?
It was snark. I was pretending that I did not know about the Bay of Pigs.
G’nite, Betsy. A pain-free tomorrow for you!
Did they ask her about impeachment?
whoops… sorry ma’am
oh, you KNOW it!
Um, i’ll have to go back, but I think she said it was unlikely. she said it was possible but unlikely I believe. shoot, now I have to check.
Let’s get through the night first. OK. logging off
Her choice, or his?

PS saw your very nicepix of happy firepups. cute!
As Pickles Bush once said: “Ah don’t believe the polls, the crowds we see are all so adoring.”
-G
A good night drive-by. the Central Texas Fire Pups wore me out tonight, so I don’t think I will be able to stay up to snag the Late Late zed.
OTOH, CT is still around. I might need to beat him.
You should watch the vid if you haven’t… Shrub didn’t know what was a’coming and it was a riot watching him squirm and get flustered and pissed…! ;-)

He’s like watching an 8 year old who has to pee…squirmy and petulant.
The man sickens me with his endless lectures about history he knows nothing about.
Now with the lectures about Cuba a few days after traipsing about with Saudi King Abdullah..the human rights abomination.

But, but, we are still here?
Nite t’alllll!
:)
freedom dreams!
Aloha, siri and Tex!
Yes, I called them Bushvilles back in March when a story on them hit the teevee. Of course, it was the BBC.
I don’t think that’s too far off, along with the willingness to push the plans to a deadly extent as someone else above said.
I’ve said before that too much of what they’ve done, in the financial sphere and elsewhere, has the feel of a go-for-broke strategy. Now, I also think that the world has turned out to be much larger than their little minds had imagined, but that won’t stop a tremendous amount of unnecessary heartache and social waste on their account.
As for names, I like both Bushville and Cheneytown, the former on principle and the latter as a noir reminder that we shuddanode better. Maybe they can be used to distinguish car lots versus tent cities, or public versus wildcat sites or something, but they both should be pegged with this debacle. Gotta think of something fitting to memoriallize Greenspan, too.
When do they hit national news? If not before, then for sure any in the upper Midwest come the cold weather (if cold weather still be coming; this past winter had no real cold spells around lower Lake MI afaic).
Nouriel Roubini takes a look at the other end of the shitpile from the eventual stolen and destroyed natioal wealth and other social fallout of this thread, and asks an excellent (and maybe terrifying) question: Now what, for the financial guys? Not as in, what’s the next bubble going to be, which is the kind of thing a lot of people have been wondering, but now what are they going to do for business now that their whole business model —which I might add is the only model that a generation of bankers entering their prime knows— has gone down the tubes?
Registration for the blog at Roubini’s site is free.
Nice…we’ve come to this. I sold houses for 20 years and can tell you that no one, no one has been minding the store for consumers since this bunch of thieves took over the government. They’ve allowed banking and mortgage lobbyists to weaken the rules protecting people from overextending themselves and buying more home than they can afford.
105% loans, interest-only adjustable rate mortgages, exorbitant credit rates for those with poor credit backgrounds only work in ascending markets. They are very iffy, and when it all hits the fan, consumers lose, banks lose, and taxpayers eventually lose. Banks and hedge funds that invested heavily in buying up these loans will get bailed out of their losses, but the consumers are just screwed. Their credit will be shot for years and years, plus they are having huge penalties added to their foreclosures by lenders. Those will remain on their credit as judgements.
Of course, some of the blame lies with those who bought counting on their home to appreciate and the economy to hum along when that can’t be counted on. It’s a mess….but the Bush buddies will somehow make money on all this.
Bushville is the perfect name for the parking lots where the homeless sleep. It’s amazing that Bush can sleep nights, though.
Harken Lots? The prez sure likes using “harken” in his speeches. Nostalgia for the good old days perhaps? Signal to the faithful/business partners that things are still on schedule?
I like that, Bushvilles. I also like the San Francisco Proposal to rename a sewage treatment facility “George W Bush Sewage Plant”.
