Tom Cole (OK-04), head of the NRCC, has apparently become the scapegoat of the rightwing blogosphere:
Conservative bloggers want Republican House campaign chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) replaced.
Frustrated by three special-election losses and the dour atmosphere surrounding congressional GOP candidates this year, online conservatives believe a Republican purge is in order if the party wants to salvage its long-term prospects on the Hill. . .
The bloggers also write that Cole and other Republican leaders haven’t stressed enough the need to play to the party’s base . . .
Right.
What’s needed is obviously a closer embrace of the BushCo war in Iraq, more racist political ads, more sexist blather, more turning a blind eye to government-sanctioned torture, more prayers in school, more ineffective sex education abstinence programs, more rejection of scientific consensus in favor of political positioning, more gay bashing, and less congressional oversight. And that’s just for starters.
But who can they tap for such an important role?
The floor is open for nominations.

Er, Punaise, I don’t think you can nominate a question mark. Tho I do have a lot of questions about the Republicans.
But who can they tap for such an important role?
Larry Craig can tap.
Mark Foley would be an excellent choice.
How about Macaca – he isn’t working right now.
The [House] floor is open for
nominationsmopping with the sad-sack GOP..(fixed it for ya.)
Oh goody, they’re going to get rid of even more Rs, and we won’t even have to lift a finger.
Another good candidate: Jack Abramoff. Is he out of prison yet?
Ithink Tom Reynolds might be the man for the job…
Oh, please, let it be Steve King.
funny that, usually this is the moment at which Gingrich offers himself up as Savior – however, he now agrees with the young man from Illinois -
Not…. This…….Time !!!!
bwaaahaahaaa!
And here I thought Peterr got a new puppy and needed help naming it.
I got it! Joe Lieberman.
Vito! such a good family values guy that he has two of them.
I got it! Joe Lieberman.
contest over. can’t top that.
I thought we were limited to people in the House…(grump). By the way, eCahn – do you have an updated count for June?
EPU-ed 2 threads ago… Linda Douglas joins Obama campaign as spokeswoman and strategizer…formerly at ABC News.
Tom Tancredo or Jim Sensenbrenner would surely garner lots of support from the Aryan Youth
And he’s got the racist chops.
Hi, Petrr!
FunnyDiva
I say we send ‘em a bottle of ketchup and sit back and watch them eat each other.
Fucking jackals.
Sorry Reverend, my bad.
Folks may have missed Peterr’s terrific post last night on Sugar Momma in the stampede for election results. Highly recommended.
Haven’t sent out reminders yet. Will do probably right after Memorial Day, when people can think seriously about June. Right now looks like a dozen, and a REALLY NICE dozen, at that! Haven’t heard back from everyone yet, as I think the original notices went out too far in advance for some pleople’s plans.
P.S. to others. This is about a mid-Hudson (New Paltz, NY)FDL BBQ on June 22. Anyone else who’s interested, let me know.
Oh, it’s ok as long as we are swearing about THEM.
Gee, Punaise, that ? sure was a pithy remark!
wow. Can’t believe I missed a whole thread.
OT: talk about spin. Compare this with Jane’s post a couple threads back:
Long race taking financial toll on Obama campaign
and that’s just the “teaser” on Yahoo’s home page. The actual lede is even worse.
FunnyD
some pithy for the devil.
Wail fellow, hel met
Yea, and you could have gotten lectured on how stupid we are now at FDL.
The GOP has used these tactics in the past with great success in the 70’s when the economy was going down and Democrats seemed (thanks to the GOP) to be more concerned about Civil Rights (GOP code for African Americans) than about helping blue collar workers who were losing jobs.
Today sure racism is still a factor, but are Whites really blaming Hispanics for taking away crappy jobs that don’t pay much?
Or are Whites blaming the GOP for letting Big Corporations (code for the GOP) OUTSOURCE all the good paying jobs out of America!
Hatred of the different must be tied directly into the voters minds as the reason why their jobs suck!
If there is not a simple answer like that presented to the voters…well then the voters have to think about the issues then don’t they and as Steve Colbert says “Reality has a well known Liberal Bias”.
they want a purge ?
yeah great – guess we can call it The Fear Hall Putsch
(Cue scratching noise as I refigure the black bean enchiladas recipe down from “for huge crowd” to “for smaller crowd”)
Try that salsa verde!
Hi TobyWollin I odrered a t-shirt, some shorts and some hemp (peanut butter?)
from the site you clued me to and am now waiting delivery if it turns out right I’ll order more clothes Thanks!
that kinda Styx in my craw… :~)
The Bugman. (Ahh, good times.)
Can you make a big batch & freeze the overage for future use? Being single, I’m very much into that method.
ooo! ooo! I know — Ken Blackwell.
See, if a brown guy goes after other brown people, it’s not racist.
I’d freeze the fixins but not the torts.
I got a note from VoteHemp today about a company in the US now offering a building material called hempcrete, which uses hemp and lime, uses far less energy to create and puts out far less bad stuff while it cures. It’s also got a higher insulative value than standard concrete. But again – the Feds are afraid people are going to try to smoke industrial hemp, so as usual, we have to import the raw materials. Teh stupid..it burns..it burns.
great post peterr!
this is how detached they are, they don’t realize they’re losing elections becuase their policies have been exposed as stealing from our infrastucture and our kids future
oh no, it must be a “management issue” not a performance or policy issue
idiots all
except perhaps for hagel who is saying bush better not even think of starting war in Iran
Do you have any information about when this banning of hemp began? I would really like to know who decided this silliness. Thanks
hehehe…well, there is the regular size(which really is a big batch – even with a dozen, people will be going home with their Monday lunch), and then there is the Giant Economy Size, which I have used to feed whole parades of Scandinavian fiddlers in Ithaca, NY. I won’t burden anyone with that.
eggsellent!
I hear Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a feel for Republican campaigns :D
It goes wayyyyy back, like wwII
Oh, no, that’s not the thread I missed (I missed Dave’s)! I just had to stay out of it so I wouldn’t feed that troll. think they projected much? Sheeee-ite. But thanks to everyone else who duked it out. It was entertaining to read you regulars. I thought that individual was addressed in good faith for quite awhile after they started waving the troll-flag.
Just had a thought, though. Maybe it was a freeper/wingnut posing as a Clinton supporter! The mindless regurgitation of talking points, lack of substantive evidence and eventual decline into personal attacks were certainly the same.
FunnyD
One hundred and twenty five years ago, fiber hemp made up 80% of the economy. It was used to make paper, lamp oil, clothing, rope, etc. It was simply the most profitable plant to grow. But as Marijuana (cannabis hemp) use became more and more prevalent and yellow journalism linked it to more and more murders, car accidents and violence (especially among minorities), cannabis and fiber hemp were both outlawed in 1937 (the same year DuPont came out with Nylon, a petroleum-based fiber). Hemp was banned from the United States until 1942, when demand for rope and fiber by the Navy grew high during WWII. The U.S.’s supply of imported hemp from Japan and Manila were now cut off, and the federal government again legalized the cultivation of hemp. In fact, they even subsidized it and made a short film called ”Hemp for Victory”, urging American farmers to grow it. But as the war was coming to a close, the government flip-flopped, and banned it within 5 minutes at a congressional hearing.
http://hempfarm.org/Papers/Hemp_Facts.html
Amazing. I wouldn’t have thought that people then even knew about smoking hemp. Other drugs of course but not that.
Lions and tigers and bears. . .oh my!
I don’t disagree with you, but take a somewhat different tack. First of all, Rs are short on admitting mistakes and long on scapegoating. (So much easier, dontcha know.) So in that sense, this is SOP.
Second, in the book I just read on the neocons, They Knew They Were Right, the author points out how the neocons have established all sorts of infrastructure (MSM, their own publications, & think tanks, and especially intermarriage and drawing all their children into the movement). Meanwhile old-style Rs haven’t done anything to mentor an ongoing party. Therefore the R party is now neocons. There’s no othere there there, so they party has no way of changing into something more appealing to voters.
Actually Raven, it went back farther than that – into the 30s and was due to the pressure brought by the lumber and paper industries. Of course, in WWII, when the US Navy needed it for rope, etc., the government ran back and was begging US farmers to grow it..and then shut it down again later on.
you never saw reefer madness? Cab calloway? Who dat man? He high!
right, I posted it
Ahem. You can’t smoke industrial hemp. As a matter of fact, if it gets grown near the drug-based stuff, any cross pollination renders the seeds and flowers from the drug-based plants worthless.
Cab Calloway
If you’re going to keep talking about food, I’ll have to order dinner early.
Nah, cook up the whole batch, portion out and freeze for later. Then go directly from freezer to however you’re heating it up without thawing.
What works for all kinds of expensive convenience food works just as well for home made.
FunnyD
longtime single gal, with lots of single gal friends who cook.
You can smoke it, you just don’t get buzzed.
Thanks, all for the good information on hemp. I had forgotten about reefer madness. I know some people smoked when I was in college but I assumed it was rather new.
Sorry, I’m fussy and I cook for my long time single girl!
“online conservatives believe a Republican purge is in order”
How many Republicans would be left? Sorry, How many Repuplicans would remain? — as they would never be left.
You jest
I know you can’t smoke industrial hemp – I meant that people apparently thought you could.
the party is no longer concervative, this we agree, they are the fringe and the real concervatives have moved to the democratic party
the truth is the democratic party always had the platforms concervatives really care about but the republicans were able to market their “me” concept very effectively
Harry J Anslinger was jealous of J Edgar and the FBI.
Just sheltered, I guess :)
In a war on , there are no innocents.
maybe it was a McTroll
You gotta watch that video
We call it ditchweed here in Iowa. Cows love the wild hemp with little THC and kids who try it get nothing but a headache*g*
online conservatives believe a Republican purge is in order if the party wants to salvage its long-term prospects on the Hill. . .
Sure get rid of the old ways the Bush ways but the thing is the problem IS BUSH Bush is identified with the war. Bush’s War for Oil a talking point of ours the GOP thought they had beaten is coming back everytime the price of gas goes up.
The price of gas going up says failure, it says we are losing the War for Oil, it says my next car will get better MPG.
The GOP needs to identify the problems that our pissing off voters and then have solutions that voters not Neocons think will work.
The press can repeat GOP mantras all they want but after seven years of failure the voters are not buying it anymore.
The GOP knows this though they have mass marketing people doing polls about this and yet they still push the war, with less troops than Gen. Eric Shinseki said that we needed to control Iraq after the invasion, back when we thought we were going to be Liberators.
If anything after Abu Graid we should have had more troops sent in than Gen Shinseki wanted so if effect we are trying to hold onto Iraq with not enough troops to do the job.
Is Bush’s Pride and Cheapness worth an election to the GOP?
’sOK. I’m not, so if you ever want to freeze me some extra and post it…
FunnyD
your gal is lucky. and not just cuz you cook.
this is what i fear, because it leaves the dlc types free to turn the D party into the old style Rs which leaves no home for progressives.
Sorry, that should have been:
In a war on [fill in the blank], there are no innocents.
My contractor, a Jewish pink diaper baby (now mid-50s), told me about 8 years ago that there was no left left in the country. He saw it much sooner and much more clearly than I did.
How is its strength compared to reinforced with steel concrete?
That’s the danger. The solution is more & better Ds. *crossing fingers*
Of course, Cab is supposed to have banned reefer smokers from his band.
OT – fyi: tomorrow morning:
If it was, it was a damn stoopid one. IIRC the McTrolls are supposed to ooze McThuselahnian talking points, not HRC ones…
FunnyD
gotta build up my self control so I can resist playing whack-a-troll if we get invaded…
Unfortunately that will be boring. “The surge is working.” Rinse. Repeat.
One hundred and twenty five years ago,
four scores and a dime bag ago..
Maybe it was a freeper/wingnut posing as a Clinton supporter! The mindless regurgitation of talking points, lack of substantive evidence and eventual decline into personal attacks were certainly the same.
A false flag troll? Creatures of the Net a Dungeons Dragons Monsters Manual
Aw, that’s nice.
“We’re Whining”
What a waste of time, but I have it on good authority
that the committee members will all look very stern.
better ones anyway. that’s why i’m ok with an attempt to purge blue dogs and dlc types – not because i want to see them purged from politics, because i want to see them have to go take their party (the R party) back from the crazies. i want a sane R and D party that reflects the will and diversity of the people.
almost all are either boring or infuriating. doesn’t relieve me of my responsibility though.
I nomonate my Congressman, Gary Miller CA-42. He’s nicely corrupt and
not well known. That’s perfect for a Republic leader.
I beg to differ. You can somke anything. Some makes you high, some kills you, and some tastes really bad.
I, personally, have not done extensive research. I put tobacco in my third category. I did live in a country in a time where mj was $5/kilo.
I want to tell you that I so admire your dedication and it’s so nice to have someone tell us what happened in these hearings. I simply do not have the patience and I get so angry that it ruins my day.
Henry NRPS
Every year about this time it’s gettin kinda dry
And we thank you for volunteering to take this responsibility!
FunnyD
got cable yesterday. DANGER! DANGER! C-SPAN! KO! TDS! Colbert!
And I think I already have no life?….
Cambodian Red was pretty cheap once upon a time in a
galaxy
far
away
Anyone nominate ‘Fredo yet?
There was a time when that was called a “lid” and you could get a kilo of good Mexican smoke for $110.
At least that’s what someone told me. *g
Thai sticks weren’t to shabby.
“Compared to reinforced concrete”,
Good question, properly made it’s a composite material (fibers distributed thought the mixture). It could be stronger under tension. Under compression there is little better than concrete, lime most certainly is not as strong as concrete (under compression).
Lime was used as mortar between bricks before Portland cement became prevalent, and, from experience, lime mortar is much softer than Portland cement based mortar.
Um, IIRC the chair of the NRCC (Nat’l Repug Congressional Committee) must be a Repugnant member of Congress. So, I nominate Darrell Issa – he’ll be good for laughs, anyway.
edit –
totoo dumbassHuckabee
Is that cuz you could keep it under your hat (=”lid” in Marine, iirc)?
Thanks for the earworm, Raven. Now I gotta have John Williams in my head all day!
FunnyD
i hear you.
if you’ve ever wondered why i’m so pissed off at the dems, now you know. :(
Au contraire! The Republicans don’t believe in those quaint rules, laws, and treaties. So we can nominate whomever we want.
oooh Chocolate Thai Sticks . . .mere mention causes a pleasant sensation, um, or so I’ve been told :D
I’d nominate Boehner but I don’t have flood insurance.
Thank you, selise.
Good one, JimW!
L8r, pups!
FunnyD
back on topic . . .
where are all the Water Boys ??? Kingston, Putnam, McHenry
“and I’m down to steeds and hems again”
The Conservative Bloggers are going one way, The Religious GOPers are on board for most of that agenda, the Corporate wing of the GOP however wants immigration but they don’t like immigrants getting rights.
They all don’t like Democrats but they don’t have any ideas that are positive.
Sure opposing gay marriage, abortion and immigrants will get them elected in some states but not Nationally.
The thing is once the war is over what POSITIVE IDEAS will the GOP use to attract moderates?
All of the republicans are responsible and so are far too many dems.
The “base” needs to look in the mirror– there’s lots of blame to go around.
Including those Americans who don’t vote, don’t care, don’t think they can make a difference and the legislators and administrations that count on those sad facts.
Tweety and Buchanan saying that if McCain picks Romney as a VP…it will take Michigan away from the Dems and McCain would win.
So depressing.
The fundies do not like Romney – he hasn’t been dunked.
I have always fancied myself a concervative!
the thing is, I want all the things concervatives want, I see that the actual party has no intention of giving it to me
I want a strong armed forces, economic responsibility, taxes as low as possible, while being payed most by those that have gained the most from our system
now there’s a novel idea;
taxes payed for the most part by those who have gained through the system…who’da thunk?
keep our integrity strong, the rule of law over men, small government there to help the people not the special interest groups
these are all concervative platforms, yet it has been consistantly the democrats who deliver
and now more then ever
the republicans have the media and they are allowed to promote their propaganda and myths about their party
but that’s all they have, propaganda, the offer what some of us want but they have no intention of delivering
I agree.
Well, you’re right that you’re more likely to find that in the D party than the R one. The Rs are really nothing more than lunatics anymore, and they don’t even know it, nor does the media. It’s the most amazing display of collective denial I’ve ever witnessed.
I think it’s going to be Huckabee. Mike serves several purposes for McSame:
1. The social conservatives like him, they really like him.
2. Huckleberry is much younger than McSame.
3. He has what the GoOP reckons to be a good record as Governor of Arkansas.
4. (least important) He wants the gig. Which by my principles ought be a disqualification, but then the same would hold for all Presidential candidates as well.
The Mittster serves none of those purposes.
BC
Please, please, please, let it be McCain-Huckleberry.
perris,
Do you think the armed forces are strong these days?
Considering the portion of the budget they get, both what we see AND what we don’t, is we gettin’ our money’s worth?
Could we rethink the proper role for a ’strong’ military? Or is that off-limits?
What do you think about sendin’ them to Iran?
Prolly NOT a good idea?
What choice have they or we got?
A reasonable question?
Amen.
I hope my analysis is mostly rational and not bent too much by what I want to see.
BC
In Taibbi’s “The Great Derangement” he is embedded with an MP outfit in Iraq. He really like the kids he’s with and he likens it to being in a car with a big happy golden retriever looking at you while you are tied up in the back of his serial killer owner’s car going down the road.
This crazy soccer game between Manchester U and Chelsea being played in Moscow is in a shootout!
I nominate George W. Bush to make the case!
Mr. Wrong keeps floating Liebermans name.
Makes me want to puke.
Patrick McHenry
Maybe the only qualification is that you hate Dems.
How’s about Newt the Patoot Gingrich?
Yeah, I saw that. But surely that’s too much of a self-mockery for even Lieberman. A twice-loser veep? Bwahahahah.
I can’t believe you guys got all the way thru this thread talking so much about marijuana and nobody mentioned the Barney Frank is sponsoring legislation to legalize it again! It would certainly be about time! It’s certainly been ridiculously demonized for long enough!
my idea of a strong military is one where we have our assets at home where they belong, at the ready to defend us our our alies if that becomes necessary
I do not believe in occupying any country and I do not believe in bases in countries that do not want us there
I agree with Republicans on change in regards to Cole. But I would ecourage them to be brave and not stop there. To continue with the “Change they Deserve”.
From Cheney to Republican Congressman Terry in Nebraska. From Lary Craig to James Inhofe.
I implore republicans to change their “Brand”. And stop marketing our Democracy.
