The zed is dead. There is no zed.
Wordpress used to label the first comment on a thread as comment “0,” but that would flash only for an instant, and then become comment “1.”
Somebody around here got the idea that “zed” meant “zero,” and started calling the first comment in a thread the zed.
Actually, “zed” means “z.” And the current architecture of FDL no longer produces “zero” comments. So it never made sense to call it the “zed,” and now it makes even less sense.
The zed is dead. There is no zed. There never was.

I prefer to think of the first comment as “the first comment.”
And to make the first comment something witty but pithy that is relevant to the subject of the new post.
But that’s just me. Your opinion may vary.
Yes [I like Laura Flanders too]. However my local AA station replaced Stephanie Miller with Lionel; I HATE him!!! I have to tune to the local “all talk” station, which also carries Bill O’Reilly, to catch Stephanie.

I don’t often have cause to criticise Keith Olbermann, but he just said, multiple times, “cement” when he meant “concrete.”
Every thinking person should know the difference.

I’m not sure who it was with, but it apparently was played in an edited version this morning, the white house complained about the editing being misleading, so Keith showed the entire interview unedited, to demonstrate that it makes Chimp look worse than the edited version did.
I am thinking it was probably Engel. He called him out on Iraq success and the “beehive” of Iran. W sounded like (because he is) a complete and out of it idiot.
I guess I should have paid more attention to who the interviewer was.
In any event, boosh looked awful.

I used to work with highway engineers and they would not allow these two terms to be confused.
The AP Stylebook gets it right.
It is a very common error.

I guess I saw the edited part. But what is so good about Engel is that he has been in country almost the whole time, so he knows what is going on there….not like he has not been on the ground and seen the whole thing develop. How nice the 2nd version did not help.

Before Zed, it was Fitz! We finally got beyond Fitz, long after Scoots was pardon and free as a bird, so Zed got adopted. More recently, several of us have taken to mimicking Cheney’s comment to the American people regarding their conclusion that the Iraq war has not been worth it. It is our tribute to ridiculing Cheney. It is irony; it is sarcasm; it is parody; it is pithy. Any questions?
