John Sidney McCain III is pushed by the adoring GOP/Media Complex as a non-elitist man of the people, despite his being the scion of a prominent family of Mississippi plantation owners and Navy brass, and his being married to a woman worth over $100 million. Likewise, John Sidney McCain III uses wind plants for photo-ops even though his staffers are working with Big Coal and other anti-wind interests backing astroturfed NIMBY groups that are outwardly just working on behalf of homeowners concerned about property values. Interestingly enough, this is happening as the price of coal -- long touted as the cheapest of our energy options (that is, if you don't look at the cleanup costs that are causing investment banks to back away from it) -- is rising even faster than the price of oil.
It's long been a truism that whenever George W. Bush has his picture taken with someone or thing -- say, a group of school kids in a special program -- that someone or something suffers a funding cut. Looks like McSame is following in his master's footsteps. Good doggy! Roll over!

whoa!
I just came in to grab a mid-afternoon snack and I find food for thought instead.
“0.0143%“
High in fibre too, and no trans-fats.
I was talking to someone the other day about solar energy and my friend pointed out a problem with solar panels and hailstorms. I really hadn’t focused on that until this week. They had a monster of a hailstorm in parts of Austin Wednesday night. My stepson grabbed a hailstone from next to the house and put it in the freezer to show everyone. I saw it - it is the size of a baseball! And he says that wasn’t even the largest one. It was the safest one to grab!
IIRC, Oil Billionaire, T Boone Pickens is putting up a massive wind farm in Texas. That ought to lend credence to the fact that Wind energy (unlike John McFraud) is seriously viable.
Safest? As in closest?
Must be the price of gas is getting too high for him. LOL
That, plus he wants to make more money. /s
PW, you describe the Rethug specialty - well-managed photo-opps! All flash and no bang!
“John The Con”, wow, what a name tag. I like it.
Well, Iberdrola(Spanish power provider) must think it’s the way to go; they are the largest wind generated power provider in Europe. They already own a company in PA called Community Energy(you can pass a whole line of their turbines on the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike)and they are looking to buy Energy East (mostly NY and Maine, but also a bit of power providing in CT as well). Niagara Mohawk(National Grid now) already has wind farms in the Mohawk Valley and out near Buffalo; I am going to take a guess that Iberdrola wants to put wind turbines on Lake Ontario and other Finger Lakes areas. This is a very good idea for New York State, where a lot of the generation is coal fired.
fwiw, they did get bonus output that day due to the blowhard being there
And, don’t look now, but Mr. ‘Can’t give a speech at the NRA without taking a potshot at Obama” Huckabee is just itching to be John McNobrain’s vice presidential running mate. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....r/huckabee
Lexan clear plexiglass like Oakley makes sunglasses out of or what is that stuff they used for shop glasses when I was in highschool they showed us a film it stoped a 1/2 inch? steel ball bearing dropped at 12? ft.
Sorry exact details are lacking after all these years. But we do have the tech to protect cheaply from hail.
and McThuselah is older than megawatt-sized wind turbines connected to the local electrical distribution system
I think we’ve seen several examples of McCain’s doing and saying things to try to look good to everyone out there. First, he goes after Hagee for the Religious Right. Now, he appears on Sat. Night Live and does photo ops at wind power companies to try to make his appeal as someone to progressives and the Left. After all..he’s cool enough to show up on SNL!
“…conservatives including John McCain, are the main reason McCain has to go to a Danish wind turbine manufacturer to give a climate speech.”
Last year, Sen. McCain told Grist, “The wind industry is doing fine.” In fact, the United States was the market leader in wind technology — following government investments decades ago under President Carter. In the past 26 years that McCain has been in Congress, Romm explains, conservatives “repeatedly gutted the wind budget, then opposed efforts by progressives to increase it, and repeatedly blocked efforts to extend the wind power tax credit.” Now the United States is a “bit player” in the $36 billion global market. In these past “eight long years” alone, McCain has worked with other conservatives to kill federal renewable electricity standards and renewable energy production tax credits.’
http://thinkprogress.org/wonkr.....hypocrite/
That would be good because birds are a problem for solar as well.
Perfect so if anybody from the NRA takes a shot at Obama its Huckabee’s fault for inciting them.
Huckabee will try the humor defense which won’t work because the GOP does not have a sense of humor. (notice the lack of GOP commedians)
When goops are funny it’s certainly not intentional.
I’ve been thinking maybe an ultrasound horn powered by the sun or long lasting LED lights might scare birds from wind and solar plants.
Although I am sure there will be some pressure on McCain to choose someone like Huckabee, who seems to have strong Conservative/right wing/hyper-religious credentials, there is also going to be a lot of pressure for him to choose someone who seems more ‘reasonable’(whatever that means to the GOP(I mean, Cheney seemed reasonable to them too).
(notice the lack of GOP commedians)
As well as cartoonists. ;-) Will someone rid me of mallard fillmore?
The Real John McCain… Aloha Ya’ll…! ;-)
Hi, CT - you got windmills is Hawaii?
Wind and Solar both need big time Federal Funding and 100 percent tax credits for consumers. The Oil thugs (especially beginning with reagan) have been hell on clean energy. Remember when that jackass Reagan removed Carter’s solar panels from the white house?
That we do, along with geothermal, solar, and even a pilot tidal project…! However, we still burn a lot of oil…
I would be happy with it costing me at a level that brought the cost of the power down to being competitive with what I’m paying now for electric or perhaps a little less. Right now, I’m getting 50% of my electric from green sources and that is adding 5 cents a kwh.
I think I might have asked this before but I recall they were doing studies on what they were calling “OTEC” when I was out there (Ocean Thermal Energy Currents) as a power source. Did anything ever come from that?
Proposed Obama sound bite
McCain voted to kill wind power funding when America had the lead in the Technology! Now Denmark has the lead they are planning to go all electric for their cars by 2010!
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb.....147/AUTO02
America needs a leader who is for wind power because its right not because it will get him votes.
America needs a leader who is against torture and will stay against torture even if the other side changes its mind…to get more votes.
America needs a Leader who will not go to Saudi Arabia to beg for more oil…and come back empty handed.
Either the Saudi’s lower oil prices to a dollar a gallon or we will take all the war money and go as green with wind and solar as Denmark!
Then all the money we spend on oil now will be spent in America on high paying green jobs.
So who do you think will get the nod for VP so we can start researching them?
Digg this
It’s not being used to produce energy anymore, but, it’s spawned a whole slew of industries, from raising abalone in large tanks, to the largest single export industry-desalinated deep seawater, which sells for $7 a liter in Japan…! 8-)
Wingnut welfare at its worse I wonder how many complaints they get?
This is the kind of reporting we will need a lot more of in the coming months. Educate people on who McBush really is.
I see. I propose a 100 percent tax credit for home solar energy installations - Water heating and electricity generation. The thing is that the PowersThatBe are full of sh*t. If they can’t be the provider and sell us the power though their grid they are shooting themselves in the foot.
We may need to stand on street corners to do it since the MSM seems unwilling to tell the truth.
The Danes are at the forefront on all things alternative. This is a great blog, with lots of photos of how people in Copenhagen use bicycles as daily transport. They call Copenhagen the bike capital of the world (the Chinese might not agree with that), and there are lots of great ideas here for using bikes as transport for people, cargo, freight, etc. http://www.copenhagenize.com/
there is a ’sister’ site which covers copenhagen bike fashion, but that is a whole different deal..
[Link repaired by mod. Need to separate the link from preceding/following characters]
Great post, PW. Let’s digg it!
And thanks for calling attention to the astro-turfed Big Carbon surrogates opposing wind power.
Great video. Needs to be seen. Thanks. McCain has contradicted himself so many times and the MSM refuses to inform the people. McCain is a liar and a big old flip-flopper.
Wow..who would I think has the edge for McCain? Well, I think for someone as ambitious as McCain is, he is going to want someone who will pull in the ‘way over the red line religious right wing’, but not someone who will actually try to dominate him. So, I think he’s going to try to find someone with some political credibility but who is also frankly incompetant so that he can push the guy around. Let’s see now…Huckabee, I’ve already mentioned. Rick Santorum has the creds, but he’s from PA and won’t bring in the South and Southwest. Someone from the south or southwest who can help me here? I’m not familiar with the folks down there.
German law for solar is if you put up the panels the power company pays you for the power you generate at above the power market rates for electricity. Evil conservatives in Germany are trying to change that right now I may have to sell my German Solarworld stock.
But we should do what the Germans did as policy pay regular people more than the current rate for power.
It will be expensive (the Germans pay a few Euros a person on their bill to finance their green power) but still much cheaper than what the Bush/Cheney Freemarkets Rule, Secret Meetings (we still can’t get any information about) Enron did to power prices.
Perry from Texas.
That has to stop!
high paying green jobs.
O.K. Y’all know I don’t do troll…..just raising a question/point here. Every time I hear *anyone* talk about “green collar” jobs, the term “high paying” is attached. PW, can you or any other pups who’ve done a lot of research on the subject of green jobs provide any documentation that they will in fact be coupled with high pay? It doesn’t seem like a good idea to raise the expectations of low-information inhabitants of the country if it should not prove true. Anyone know how this is playing out in other countries who already have a head-start on us?
Just askin’.
This could be useful…
‘A new biodegradable plastic has been developed from an unlikely source - wheat.’
http://www.csiro.au/multimedia.....lants.html
Honolulu has started on a project to cool all the towers in the city with cool seawater… We working on it, we also are the biggest consumers of solar hot water per capita…
www.newenergychoices.org/uploa.....report.pdf
This is a report from Dec., 07 which grades, on a state by state basis, net metering and other factors in your state’s legislation dealing with installing solar, wind and biomass. New York gets..a D.
St. Molly would rise up out of the grave.
and don’t forget what you can do with hemp…including paints, coatings, plastics, building materials, etc.
Yes. Gov. “Good Hair” she called him.
Like every other modern American Enterprise or Institution, the chiefs will receive the high pay. The grunts - not so much. So yeah, high paying green jobs.
Gov Goodhair couldn’t get much more than 40% in ‘06 running against an apostate R, incompetent D, and Singer/Songwriter/Author/Comedian.
And I don’t think the country is ready for another Texas Gov of limited competence for a few decades.
I don’t either but he has been mentioned as a possible vp for some time now.
I don’t know about any place outside the US, but I did read an article about how wind companies are poaching technicians from Oil co’s in Texas because many of the same mechanical skills needed to repair and maintain wind turbines and oil equipment are the same.
The practical applications of Hemp could completely change/save the world. Which is why the ‘powers that be’ are so afraid of it….
Right on, bra! That’s why the evil bast*rds put the kabosh on hemp. The petro-chemical war pigs could not tolerate the competition from a cheap, prolific, green, superior product. In fact, they tied hemp to the negro and renamed it marijuana (it makes negroes and whites go crazy!). It was a racist Karl Rove style smear campaign.
In terms of ‘net metering’(that is, what consumers who put in wind, biomass, or solar would get for value in terms of what they generate), the ‘A’ States are: New Jersey, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and California.
The ‘B’ states are Oregon, Delaware, Iowa, Nevada, Connecticut, Ohio, and New Mexico.
The ‘F’ States are: Utah, DC, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
Hopefully the country has sworn off electing members of the Bush family. That could be a positive legacy of George W. Bush, among a myriad of negative ones.
Just off the top of my head Zoltec an American company makes high tech carbon fiber wind blades for VESTAS some of the other guys use fiberglass.
Manufacturing the turbines if done here and not outsourced should be a high paying job installing the windmill I would expect people to get what the cable tv installers get paid.
I think the main concern is that we make the green power stuff here!
There will not be a lot of jobs true we do need numbers but if we went green fast say 40% of power in ten years then there would be.
To store the power a nationwide electric car charging grid could be built with electric car owners getting paid if the electric grid needed to take power from already charged electric cars assuming the owner agreed
and some maxium amount the electric companies could take was agreed upon previously and could be adjusted by the car owner at will.
Fixing our entire nations power grid to handle all this shifting of the electricity loads that would be ALLOT OF JOBS. Cheap power when we are done would decrease costs for the manufacture of anything with power or transport of said good assuming we build electric freight trains again more jobs.
Don’t get me to talking about hemp; it is a superior plant in all ways. I just saw a note from Vote Hemp about the state of Vermont(Vermont, people!!!) voting to allow farmers to do test plots. Ahnold has vetoed passed legislation in California two years in a row. Stupid. We import millions of dollars of hemp products and byproducts into this country; the auto industry is using hemp inside panels in doors already. But the DEA insists for a crazy reason to keep calling it marijuana; they don’t seem to understand that where you grow industrial hemp, if anyone is growing marijuana in the area, the cross pollination ruins the marijuana for any sort of drug use. Idiots. (ok, rant over)
George W. Bush II, er, John Sidney McCain III, believes that if he just smiles and says “my friends” a lot and tells people what he thinks they want to hear
(”Asked if he supported the Cape Wind project, McCain said that “absolutely I’m for it,” describing himself as a “strong supporter.’”),
that voters will not know where he really stands, and he will be elected as our next president.
We must make sure he does not turn out to be right about that.
Got a link this sounds cool but do you have any plans to replace oil power for electricity cause that just sounds sooo expensive.
‘As much as a third of the nitrogen entering the world’s oceans from the atmosphere is man-made, according to new findings by an international team of scientists.
This has significant implications for global climate change because the nitrogen causes increased marine biological activity and CO2 uptake, which in turn produces the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N20).’

I can’t see the Bush Family Board of Directors putting Jeb into the mix this time around; I believe the GOP is allowing McCain to run and if he loses, well, too bad. I think they will hold Jebby back for the next time; he is young enough.
hackworth @ 52 -
Well, that one’s a given. :-(
Toby @ 55 -
Heh, heh….oil losing employees to wind. Karma?
TCU -
Lots to think about there; thanks.
BRILLIANT!
great new handle pw, I will plaguerize as I hope this becmes viral
This is exactly true. Lawn watering and fertizing are very harmful to the environment. My lawn sets a good example for my neighbors. Its brown and full of natural, native plant species (weeds).
707..
I want books from Hemp my SCI FI books from highschool are getting old and I want to upgrade my collection into something more long lasting.
I think Comic Book collectors might also like longer lasting collectables.
Highschools might like not having to buy textbooks so often too!
Some more wind farms and solar farms are in the works, unfortunately, my county council just shot down a waste to power facility… They balked at the price sticker…! $127 million over 20 years, I was rather disgusted with them, considering our land fill is overloaded and now they have to locate a site for a new landfill…!
Any good hemp clothing links people I’m thinking of buying clothes for the summer.
the bush political legasy is dead
if another bush gets into office we deserve him
But how much money would you make by selling power at current rates?
the man sounds so timid, so feeble, so impotent when he begins with that phase, I do believe the more he uses it the better for us
Perhaps the Bush name is now so damaged that Jeb will never get the chance.
Bush stole the last two elections and there is always the possibility of a military take over.
More stuff…
‘U.S. Forest Service scientists with the Center for Urban Forest Research have completed a study that found planting and nurturing Indianapolis street trees brought a 500 percent return in benefits from storm water reduction, energy conservation, cleaner air and increased property values.’

In which case, family dinners in Kennebunkport are going to be rather testy, I would think.
Really? /s
COLUMBIA, Mo. – ‘How much a particular hill of beans is worth may depend on who’s counting the beans. When it comes to accounting standards in the business world, every bean counts, but the quality of financial reporting differs from country to country. In a recent study, a University of Missouri researcher found that uniform and strict auditor enforcement may be more important than a country’s accounting standards, and the quality of reporting can affect the whole economy.’
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_.....051408.php
That’s another good side effect of this Bush era.
Shrub has destroyed the name and Jeb will pay the price. I frankly don’t care, but I wish Shrub would pay but he won’t. He won’t even understand it.
to be fair, to say he personally stole the elections gives him far too much ability, the legasy of his father and reagan dressed in black robes, and jeb using fixed voting machines…they stole it
but to be fair, we now know what they did and we are doing nothing about electronic voting…nothing
if a bush is elected again it will be our inaction and our fault
I realize that I may be ‘parsing’ this a little be finely, but what does ‘good’ mean to you. I like http://www.rawganique.com/index.htm because they seem to have everything hemp from sock and underwear on out; they even have wedding dresses. There are a lot of people out there selling tee shirts and knit goods, too. It all depends on what direction you want to go in. And, if you want to make your own and dye it, Dharma Trading is the place to go for hemp and hemp mix fabrics.
shrub will pay I believe, just not the price he should be paying
he is a pox, he is the ruin of the party, he will be the reason progressives regain the programs that made this nation great
he might well have ushered back the kennedy, the roosevelt, the dream
if we manage to overcome the barage of fraud the republicans are about to unleash, I believe obama will be considered among the greatest president’s who have ever served
Book Salon is upstairs. Or continue the conversation down here if you desire. But if joining Book Salon, please stay on topic of course.
and that book might be?
Perris..you almost make the situation with Bush sound as if we should be lighting a candle in his name right now, in thanks.
Jeralyn in da house!! [book salon]
Good is stylin! Thanks I’ll check out the site Bye!
This is a good site for info on Hemp tech etc

Score on the clothes Tobywollin:) I’ll order some tommarrow I’ll read your stuff later Jackie thanks.
Oh, yes indeed!
here’s what democrats can do to facilitate the re-emergence of those progressive agenda that made her great, they have to seize this opportunity with something similar to the following;
“thanx to george bush the republican party has been exposed, their purpose is to
1)residistribute the assets middle class has been investing for generations to the wealthy
2) give as gifts the american infrastructure to the corporations that contribute to their campaign
3) allow corporations to buy law
4) immunise their own from any law, even forgive and commute the sentences of people who have exposed our security assets simply because they are a friend of a friend
5) manufacture data for the purpose of gaining political propaganda to use agains Americans
the list needs to be refined but man, I like that strategy
sorry i missed this thread.
jackie, our soil conservation officers are pushing ’rain gardens’ to catch run-off, really high success rates for it………measure your roof and build according to it…….info available at your natural resources office, is to catch rain water and have it go back to aquifer instead of into sewer drains………is basically a depression that is a flower bed of sorts, gathers water, lets it soak back in instead of flowing into drains.
i’ve passed out info about it, the booklet is from the geauga county office in ohio……
and there is a ’psycho’/s around here calling in to radio show about hemp hemp hemp as the be-all save-all to everything from running automobiles to saving agriculture….’will save our country’…..i am totally uninformed in this area, except in the area of fabrics, any links appreciated. a few of us might be having a little meet-up with the governor, and hesitate to bring this up because we don’t know if it’s really viable or not..the ’psycho’ has good stuff sometimes but other times she’s out in the nether lands……….if it is, am willing to do it. i think.
toby, that was for you, too, the hemp thing, haven’t read the comments yet, i saw that you had a few.
am willing to take this on if it is a viable thing……..just don’t know enough about it to do that.
i always say to people, do what you know…….so, i follow my own on that.
This is the link to all things organic!
