I still have heavy winter coats hanging in the hall! And winter boots under the shoe shelves. May flowers, but still chilly. Boo

Oh, my dear CT,
I forget. Good heavens, down filled floor length coat with fake fur on the hood. I’m NOT FROM AROUND HERE, and found the winter wear unbearable.

We are attending a meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, in September. We hope to stay a few extra days for touring. Other than that, just Patty’s graduation in DE at Winterthur.
Are you still in SA, or are you blogging from the road?
I’m heading down to New Orleans in June … first trip back since we sold the house last July, it will be interesting to see what (if anything) has changed
christine e, scotland is on my must go there before i die list.
NDFG- won’t let me login.
I just checked our weather. By Monday we will be back in the upper 90’s. May in South Central Texas.
I’ve been there twice, and can’t wait to go again. We love the music so much.
Which part of NO? What was it like?
You must be very proud. Did the apartment work out?
sorry suze, new to this *ndfg falls on knees and begs for forgiveness*
i hear them all
LooHoo, the spook is working on it and we’ll get back to you.
no problem, ndfg. just letting ya know so be judicious and use it wisely is all that we ask :)
and you have only started learning about life backstage, i fear i am obliged to tell ya
It did. What a stressful situation! We had to hire a broker, who was great, but we had to pay thousands…
we lived on the west bank, it didn’t flood there … but I worked in eastern New Orleans, which got hammered and was still mostly uninhabited in the early part of last year
Merci, Madame;)
tis my pleasure, ma’am
neuro, you still having that late late nite slowness loading problem?
Were you out of New Orleans (I assume**) when Katrina hit?
Yep. It hits every night about the time I try to open up LLN.
loohoo, you should be on system, try again (ndfg apologizes for intruding Other Matters on a Lake thread)
if you right click on your bottom task bar, you can bring up your task manager. do it and see what applications are running next time that happens. you can also click on its processor tab to see what is using the most CPU and memory
late late nite – off topic is the topic ndfg… not a problem at all
Worked for me, ndfg!
Hot enough for ya?
;>)
And Suz – Tom & Jerry – new to me!
yes, spent three weeks in Houston … Mrs Cat & I packed up my 2 kids and our 10 cats and hit the road Saturday night, Katrina came ashore Monday morning
And yes, we are very proud.
Good night Suzanne.
You guys wore me out downstairs.
And, I’ll send good vibes up your way for a good showing.

Well, it is time for lights out in the Gnome world. All the pups in the gnome house are snoring peacefully, so I think I shall join them. Until the morrow, folks.

Too many perps in that tavern, ma’am…Oklahoma, you say?

g’night gnome. Hope your pups don’t chase rabbits in their sleep as noisily as my dear departed old LuLu did.
Suzanne, it says the only application running is Firedoglake.
As for processes, there are about 42, the largest are:
CCAP.EXE 55,452K
IEXPLORE.EXE 36,196 K
svchosy.exe 31,900
Lucoms~1.EXE 17,372 K
I don’t know what any of this means.
g’nite gnome

neuro, do you have windows update or any anti-virus software that updates automatically? it might be updating this time of night?
alabama
Hey, where have you been??
(Can’t get on,NDFG.) And I expected to be first.
AirportCat, I don’t know anything about windows update.
I have norton antivirus but I don’t know when it updates. Would it show up under “applications” if it was running?

not sure if it would show up … Mrs Cat had McAfee and that updated at 3AM, you could always tell (if you were on) because it had a little icon at the bottom of the screen indicating it was loading updates, and of course it slowed down the connection drastically
Sleep tight, wobbly.
hehe i likt that nickname for her

Suze, I went to Costco today and got a couple of racks of spare ribs, then I went to Corralitos markeet and sausage and got 5 lbs of hot link. Then I went to Whole Foods and got a half Gallon of Bone Suckin’ barbecue sauce.
Got mah lump charcoal, my smoke wood and I’m gonna be cookin’! I am a hound dog for barbecue and I’m makin’ some next weekend.
That and numerous naps.
loohoo, send me your email address via facebook, spook is creating a new user name for you & needs it. For some unknown reason, system said yours was an invalid user name.

Well, it’s not the Jimmy Carl Black version…That has the full effect, N.
Now for some apple-cheeked goodness.

I love it! Good job, Suz!
Well, we want you to be rested for the general!!!

My favorite band from Monterey.
The following year, and for the next eight years, they were the best live band in the world. Bar none. ANd I saw ‘em every time they got to the Bay Area.
I was the biggest Who freak in the world for all that time. RIP OX and Moonie.
Suzanne. Best with your sale tomorrow! How’s Joanie?
Sho ’nuff.
thanks, loohoo. joanie is doing good – she’s keeping busy working on her tan and taking care of the kitties.
loohoo, ygm
*feeling faint*

Who, me? I love everybody.
Well…Um…er…

My second fave from Monterey
Otis was THE King of Soul and had he lived, tha’ts what he’d be known as. Check out Steve Cropper on his Telecaster.
janis
sigh.. otis was taken way too early
chicken
Janis was at her peak at Monterey. She was great. But she never reached me like the WHo and Otis. There are times when I listen to Otis and I STILL grieve that loss. What a genius. Ol’ Delbert does a few Otis tunes and we have been known to do a few live.
Woo-Hoo, I’ve got a little assistance now, at M&C! Rangeragainstthewar just joined me, and i posted his article… 8-)
any restrictions for rogues posting your art for use in various and sundry forums? I’ve taken the liberty a few times for a timely and good cause.

Nothing works, you two heartthrobs, but I see the other comments. Check caps, spaces and punctuation? Loo Hoo.
Not at all, as long as it honors creative commons use.

Otis was wonderful beyond words.
I love Dock of the Bay, but I equally loved Linda Ronstadt doing Blue Bayou.
Nah!
I was checking for my WP password and I saw that Ranger submitted an article, I got distracted from commenting at AK’s…! ;-)
Now, CT, you can trust me. Just like your family physician.
Mike Myers, eat your heart out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! J, my partner is an aficionado of scatological humor and this one had her rolling on the carpet.
I think this is the kind humor our Nation needs to lead us out of our eight years of darkness. I’d like Hilary a lot more if she told a fart joke once in a while!
Hah! As if…! 8-P
you’re forgiven *g*
CTuttle, you are a natural blogmeister!
Why thank you, Loo Hoo! I appreciate that! 8-)
Holy, holy holy.
I do enjoy the Who…! ;-)
then your partner will love this one
Outstanding. going back in the archive, you’ve amassed a collection fitting for many, many spot occasions. Dropping a db work in the middle of a wingnut revival tends to bring things to a halt. Rebuttals with Words typically cause escalation, but your pics leave people speechless. Maybe they’re more impressed than shocked, I don’t know. pics envy, or something.
I’ve tried 3 different secret codes. (caps and lowercase to defy the NSA!!)
I’m on a mac instead of the pc. Would that matter?
I got in immediately, Loo Hoo, and you know what I’m using.
Can I assist?
You are a demented individual!
some bromberg?
Yes, I am. Ain’t it cool?
I love immature toilet humor. :-D
She did, indeed!
Thanks! But I don’t know how you could help. Should I forward you the message?
Thank you very much. I try to keep things so that the community of the Right can find a tidbit to enjoy and reflect upon, as well as progressives.
Everybody on the bus, I say.

arrgghhh. this happened to me when the Lake became the New Lake. Made me feel unloved. *hugs loohoo* i think at this point we’re fried and need to figure it out in the morning. It appears on the admin level that you’re ok and able to enter a comment … sleep. caffeine in am. Lets hope those two in sequence will take care of the prob.
Newton, if you have any suggestions, we’re all ears *ndfg swigs SciFi potion to sprout some more ears*
G’night Suze.

sell, sell, sell!
have a good night and a great sleep
I’ll nibble at it some.
And ndfg – sincere congratulations!
I saw them do that live shortly after it came out. It was cool.
Look’s like Swaggart’s got his wind up.
;>)
thank you!
I have had it. Good nite, folks.
Good luck tomorrow, Suzanne. But remember, you should not sign important contracts during Mercury Retrograde. (Has that started yet? Anyone?)
EPU’s self…
nite neuro
Aloha, Suz and neuro! And any that I might have missed…!
Excellent post. Dugg.
Here is when Mercury will be Retrograde:
“Mercury will be retrograde from 10:47 am, May 26, 2008 until 9:31 am, June 19, 2008. Many astrologers, me included, wait until Mercury is in the same degree of the zodiac as it was before it apparently went in backward motion, which will be at 7:47 am, July 4, 2008.”
mercury will go retrograde on Monday, May 26 at 11:48 am EDT (at 21 degrees Taurus). It entered the shadow of its retrograde on May 12. Blergh. No wonder we’re having trouble getting loohoo registered.
I think Loo Hoo is about to report some good news…
You can’t go wrong when you join together.
;>)
Nite, ‘pups.
Here or at the Safe House..? ;-)
Aloha, DB!
Over there. I think we got her fixed up.
nite db
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
nite tuttle
bailing, too
Any pups up? It doesn’t get dark up here at night anymore. Until August. The grebes on the lake here are shouting, mating.
hi ET – it’s already morning here.
oh, ET – that reminds me…. yesterday i was checking the upcoming book salons and saw that jeff halper’s book, An Israeli in Palestine: Resisting Dispossession, Redeeming Israel, is scheduled for june 22. you aren’t by any chance the person who will be introducing it?
“shouting, mating”
sounds nice!
hi ET and selise– happy Sunday mornin’ (I hope).
Mornin’, selise & ET -
What time is it in Alaska? And, given dial-up speed in consulting teh google, what’s a grebe?
What neck of the woods are you in, angie?
Good morning everyone.
Right now visiting family on a beautiful birdsong- filled VA morning.
Hiya, eCAHN -
Are ya workin’ on clearing the back forty today? *g*
Beautiful state with similar geographical features to NC; lucky you are. Lovely day here yesterday and looking like more of the same for today. :-)
Gonna treat myself to a restaurant breakfast before the weekenders fill it up; see y’all after a bit.
Hiya. On the schedule: spreading mulch around trees & gazebo (got 4 yards of mulch delivered yesterday); planting some annuals in the herb garden. *g*
yoo hoo
Waving. So what’s in the compost that makes your wife’s roses so prolific?
beautiful morning here too (yesterday was spectacular – wish i had spent the weekend camping)… but rain expected later today. just checking my email and the news and drinking my coffee before thinking about how to spend the day.
Hmmm, we go to a place that has really black stuff in a big bin and they load it into my truck with a front loader. Honestly this has been a great year for roses all over this part of Georgia. Drought, temp, orbit of the earth. . .beats me. I’m the “hunter” she’s the “farmer”.
Walter Reeves knows a lot.
OK, I’m off. I woke up very early (a little after 5am), so coffee’s been consumed, sun is up, and the great outdoors beckons.
Thanks for the reference.
RULES FOR ROSE SUCCESS Rose experts in Atlanta attempt to grow all sorts of rose varieties. However, they all know that to have a chance of success there are three basic rules: a minimum of eight hours of sun a day, good air circulation, and no sprinkler irrigation after late afternoon. They also amend the soil liberally with compost or soil conditioner, apply an organic mulch, and feed roses three times: in early and late spring, then lightly in midsummer.
He’s really funny, does a talk show and they may be downloadable.
different soils need different kinds of help. have you had your soil tested?
Good morning all.
looks like i may be ditching my charter service….
damn. more from the nyt, wapo, cnet and our local wccatv.
this is a disaster.
Sunday Talking Heads thread is upstairs…
Selise – I have an older version of this and it seems to work flawlessly. It warns you, and lets you block, outgoing traffic from your computer — so when a site requests information from your computer, you have the option to tell it no thanks. :)
thanks twolf1 – i use another product from this company (webyep) and they have really nice customer service.
but would it be able to block my isp? don’t they already know who i am?
sounds like a good idea regardless… i will investigate – looks like the prices goes up tomorrow.
I misread your article snip so this may not be what you are looking for — however it is a nice piece of software.
It works for all outgoing traffic on your computer, not limited to your browser on the web. Most pieces of software “call home” when you start it up and are connected to the web. Even some CDs and DVDs will contact their manufacturer when you insert them into a computer that’s connected to the web – and it all happens without the user’s knowledge.
The software doesn’t block incoming requests for information, it allows you to block the reply that your computer would normally give out without you knowing the request was even made.
yeah, looks like it doesn’t address my immediate concern – which i think is only addressed collectively through a massive push back. but something to consider and, as i said, i already think well of the company.
holy cow. i just installed the demo, and there are more than 20 listenings – most of which i have no idea what are used for. :(
ok, this is really weird. unless i give fdl access to my machine, i can’t read or write comments
selise – It’s not giving FDL access to your machine, it is letting your machine request the necessary files it needs to load the site.
response to your comment upstairs; No, it’s not just comments. To load any site, there is back and forth communication between your computer and the site servers. Getting a warning when surfing sites is normal – especially when ads are hosted by other sites. Getting a warning does not mean the communication is malicious. Most of the time it isn’t.
but twolf1 – it’s not the fdl domain (as i see with other sites, i’ve already checked that) it’s some weird combination of numbers, lowercase letters an “:”s – and there isn’t any info associated with it (as with other sites – no ip address, no reverse dns name – nothing). if it is the fdl domain, why doesn’t it say so?
p.s. a side feature of this app is that i can selectively turn off adds. very nice – that’s worth the $ all by itself.
p.s. i wouldn’t have been so paranoid, if i hadn’t seen the ads that were specific to my home town…. and now getting the news about charter…. makes me wonder what, if anything, is going on that i don’t know about.
if you know for a fact that the only thing going on with fdl is the necessary communications needed to load the page, and nothing else – i’ll take your word for it. is that what you are saying?
Location specific ads are no big deal. They use your ip address to get the general location and show you the corresponding ad. No need to be paranoid about that. Things may not show up as FDL domain because, as with many web ads, they are hosted on a separate server. I have never come across anything from FDL that i thought was suspicious.
is just kinda how sockets work.
Active apache on your machine and enable mod_status. Then you can monitor the apache status of your local machine to get an idea of how apache uses network sockets.
Great way to do your development work with webyep too. You do your work locally then use Transmit to copy the local mirror to the server.
interarchy also has a nice tools to monitor your machines network activity. ethereal too.
The Charter issue is a whole nuther ball of wax. Better to switch to an ISP that does view you as a piece of data.
Sounds like the great migration of spyware from the local harddrive to the ISP.
Good ISPs are getting hard to find :/
twolf1 – the issue with the location specific ads is that my ip address shows my location as boston (but that’s not where i’m physically located) and the ads were for my actual physical location – not my ip location. that was what i thought was weird.
i’ve been able to turn off the ads (very nice) but there is still something that is not obviously fdl that i can’t turn off without being unable to access comments. maybe the comments are hosted on another server that has a funny name and no associated info to show who/what it is?
anyway, i’m stuck with it…. but until someone can tell me for a fact that there is nothing going on besides the communication needed for me to view the page, i’m going to be a little suspicious.
tw3k – thanks for the info but but i don’t have apache – i just use a hosting companies servers.
re: charter….. i don’t even know if there are any good ISPs. but charter deserves the boot as far as i’m concerned. i’ll see what they say when i call tomorrow. sounds like folks here are pretty pissed off. let’s hope there’s some massive push back or this test will be rolled out to the rest of the country.
Yes you do :)
How about a screenshot of the funny look’n address?
re server.
OH. MY. GOD.
wow.
… and i’ll email you the funny address. thanks!!!
:D
i gues mac are “ok”, not linux but not bad :)
Just a general FYI; funny address is an IPv6 address.
